We came here during Pokemon World Championships weekend so it was extremely busy and several items were already sold out. The pork xlb was sold out and we got probably the last batch of beef wagyu xlb since I saw that it was sold out after we ordered. The store is small with some seating but it got very crowded with so many people coming in to order and moving around. It was my first time trying wagyu beef xlb, it was decent and juicy. My kids enjoyed the popcorn chicken. There is free parking in the plaza. I hope to come back again when it's not as crowded and all the menu items are available to try this restaurant again. read more

I've been here 2 times previously, and there were always some hiccups like the steamer being broken or being out of soup dumplings (I know, right?!)... but finally came here a 3rd time to try while attending a conference. Met the owner, MG, who was super friendly and told me they replaced the expensive steamer with a more traditional one that is easier to maintain and does not fail. I've also learned that they bring in the soup dumplings that are hand made in MG's other restaurant in Rowland Heights (that's super legit). Soup dumplings were perfect... not thin-skinned like DTF and the spicy pork and shrimp wontons were the best I've had. Lots of flavor and not too spicy. Cucumber salad was nice, crispy, and refreshing (it's a little sweet, but it is flavored with apples!)... wonton soup was also very delicious with a nice garlicky broth. Enjoyed chubby dumplings here but didn't think this place lived up to a michelin gourmand rating? This place first of all is a casual dining establishment where you order first and then sit down. It's very fast food eque which kinda threw me off. Overall, the food wasn't bad but the whole experience just felt very fast food chain and based on the kitchen, I dont think any of the food is truly prepared "fresh". Beware of many items not being available when you come here! I looked ahead on the menu online and was hoping to get some classic dumplings like siomai, BBQ pork buns, and soup dumplings. You walk inside and there's a self-order kiosk. The tablet showed a LOT of items out of stock (and of course what I wanted were part of them). They were also out of their entire wonton section. The menu items you can order now were drastically limited. So I ended up with the shrimp pork siomai dumplings (6 ct) and a rice bowl. I wanted to get a different bowl, but that was out too, so I went with the braised pork bowl. My order came out very quickly though! The guy who prepared and called my order out was very friendly and gave good customer service.For the bowl, I found it to be pretty heavy with much rice! The ratio of rice and meat to the bowl was like 90% rice and 10% meat and veggies. The pork was tender and flavorful, strong on the sweet side. They were small pieces of meat and the bok choy veggies were yummy but also small in size. I finished the bowl but sadly had so much rice leftover. I wish the ratio was more balanced out with more meat, but the prices are good for the meal and for the location being nearby Disneyland.The shrimp pork siomai was steamed well and chewy. Sis saw they had a Michelin Guide Gourmand designation (ie: quality food that's reasonably priced) so we dropped in and as we entered we saw it was empty and not too fancy, so we were worried. We ordered from the kiosk and half the items were marked as they had run out. I was worried. We ordered the cucumber, the pork dumpling in spicy sweet chili sauce, and the custard bun. The cucumber was only $2.50 and it had to be full cucumber they used so that's definitely a great deal. My favorite bite was the custard bun, all sweet and savory after I sprinkled soy sauce on it. Dumplings came out two at a time, as I ordered several dumplings and unfortunately the camera did't get to eat all the dishes (lol). I did enjoy the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, ordered it spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. Very mild flavor and could of used more heat. I'm chubby and I love dumplings so naturally I had to give this place a try. Located at the Hyatt House, it offers tasty food at reasonable prices. Their crab dumplings were scrumptious and so were their pot stickers. Portions seemed like they could have been more but honestly, I was full after only having a few. Meant to be shared, if you're a foodie like me, you can eat everything in one sitting. Service is quick and the place is clean. Good food right where we needed it. We're in town for Wondercon and we're looking somewhere for lunch and stumbled upon Chubby dumplings ~10 min from the convention center. Wandered in and ordered some of the pork xiao long bao , some Kurobata pork dumplings, and some custard dumpling for dessert. I will say the wait was a bit longer than we expected but the dumplings were all delicious! Just checked in to our hotel after a long drive from the Bay Area and wanted something quick and easy. We looked at the menu first and saw some items that interested us. We show up at 1:30pm on a Friday and everything with their Wagyu is sold out . All of their Baos were sold out as well. We did find a couple items like the noodles with chicken that my kids ended up really enjoying. The shu mai was edible but just barely. The worse was their hargow. These things were AWFUL. They were hard on the ends and were damn near inedible. I would not recommend even trying to order these. Arrived ~11:45am and many dishes were out of stock. We ordered dumplings and noodles, both were decent for a quick bite. For one dish we ordered they didn't have the pork ribs so they substituted for Wagyu beef which we already had with our dandan noodles and gave us a free drink. While it was a nice gesture, I would've preferred to be notified beforehand to check if that was ok with us, and given the option to order something else instead or offer a refund since what we originally wanted wasn't available. I love Chubby Cattle so when I was in the OC I had to go and visit Chubby Dumpling. I ordered the chicken (they ran out of pork) spicy wontons, the crab and pork xiaolongbao, and a few noodle dishes to go. It's fairly self service but there was a really nice guy at the counter answering my questions. They had bamboo shoots in a lot of things and were able to remove it on request since I'm allergic. The wontons were good. The xlb needs to be a bit soupier, but overall pretty good. The noodles were decent, but didn't reheat as well as I would have hoped. Our fam went here thinking it was a sit down restaurant but it's just a very casual place where you order on the tablet and find a table to sit in. All the food is served in styrofoam cups. It's probably not fair, because I spent years of my life flying back and forth to Asia for a living. Whenever I see a place stateside that looks Hong Kong authentic, I go. New York has many amazing places. San Diego has a good one. This one was a bit disappointing. First, about a third of their menu is out of stock. All of the wantons and the most heartbreaking MIA, pork dumplings. I almost left but I'm here, let's try the second and third favorites and maybe the pork and shrimp dumplings will suffice. They didn't. If there was any meat in them at all, I would be shocked. It's all green veggies. I even bit every one of the six in half trying to see meat of some sort. Nothing I can see. They didn't taste bad, but I'm not vegetarian. So on to the my second and third favorite Hong Kong treats. The pork Bao and custard bun. The pork had nice flavor and the bun was perfectly done but again, if there is meat in there I didn't find it. Nice flavored inside though. The custard....that was delicious. I spent $25 and I'll be starving in an hour but I did get a glimpse of what I miss about Hong Kong and Asia in general. The street venders sell better dumplings and the restaurants blow this place away but I admit I did get a little nostalgic. I don't fly to Asia anymore. I'm a domestic guy now but we come here often. Will I return to Chubby Dumplings? Maybe. I doubt it but maybe. I enjoyed the oolong tea in a can. They could do better here and if they did this place would be packed. But they didn't on this trip. The restaurant was packed and they had plenty of to go orders lined up and ready to be picked up. While most of the things we ordered were pretty good, things seemed small portion wise and some of the dishes like the mouth-numbing noodle dish, in particular, was way too salty - even for someone who enjoys Mala and have eaten many versions of this elsewhere! That being said, there were plenty of other options to choose from, and I appreciated the variety.
