It's probably not fair, because I spent years of my life flying back and forth to Asia for a living. Whenever I see a place stateside that looks Hong Kong authentic, I go. New York has many amazing places. San Diego has a good one. This one was a bit disappointing. First, about a third of their menu is out of stock. All of the wantons and the most heartbreaking MIA, pork dumplings. I almost left but I'm here, let's try the second and third favorites and maybe the pork and shrimp dumplings will suffice. They didn't. If there was any meat in them at all, I would be shocked. It's all green veggies. I even bit every one of the six in half trying to see meat of some sort. Nothing I can see. They didn't taste bad, but I'm not vegetarian. So on to the my second and third favorite Hong Kong treats. The pork Bao and custard bun. The pork had nice flavor and the bun was perfectly done but again, if there is meat in there I didn't find it. Nice flavored inside though. The custard....that was delicious. I spent $25 and I'll be starving in an hour but I did get a glimpse of what I miss about Hong Kong and Asia in general. The street venders sell better dumplings and the restaurants blow this place away but I admit I did get a little nostalgic. I don't fly to Asia anymore. I'm a domestic guy now but we come here often. Will I return to Chubby Dumplings? Maybe. I doubt it but maybe. I enjoyed the oolong tea in a can. They could do better here and if they did this place would be packed. But they didn't on this trip. It is no wonder the entire time I was waiting for my order, eating it and typing this I have sat alone in this restaurant. Sad. read more

Chubby Dumplings - Dumplings and Bao buns - Chinese Near Me - Anaheim, California

Went on a Sunday night, no wait. More than half the menu was unavailable. Quick service is a plus, parking wasn't terrible. Food quality is just meh, soup dumplings a bit questionable. Clearly the lowest priority on the chubby group hierarchy. Not worth checking out. read more

Chubby Dumplings - Taiwaneses Popcorn Chicken, Wagyu DanDan Noodle, Classic Pork Soup Dumplings (6pcs) - Chinese Near Me - Anaheim, California

We were in the area on a visit to Disneyland, and wanted something not heavily battered and fried to a crisp. Chubby Dumplings offered something each member of our family could enjoy: noodle soup, plenty of dumplings, with a side of fresh veggies. We placed our order through their online ordering platform, and it was ready within 10-15 minutes. We didn't actually stay to eat, just came by and picked up our food. The restaurant was packed and they had plenty of to go orders lined up and ready to be picked up. Everything was delicious in its own little way, but I would for sure go back for their crispy scallion pancakes and wontons. The dry garlic noodles were a bit salty for our taste, but still edible! If you're looking for more authentic dishes, there's a Din Tai Fung in Downtown Disney. But if you're looking for convenience and a warm meal, Chubby Dumplings is the spot to go! read more

Idk where to start. This place supposedly was on the Michelin guide in 2021 according to the plaque on there wall. The staff were nice and helpful. But the food, questionable. Ambiance was alright, the bathroom, WHY IS THERE A MICROWAVE AND DISPLAY WINDOW in there ? Everything was packaged in containers to eat out of, whether it was take away or dine in. Food itself was not the greatest. Scallion pancakes. Dry and hard to bite through ( almost stale) Pork soup dumplings I actually liked. Everything else was mid! read more

$12 for 6 dumplings w/o tax. I did get the $20 beef noodle soup. The broth was good, but the noodles were sub par. This place is for grab and go kind of restaurant. What really made me unimpressed was the AI generated images on the menu. If you're a restaurant can't take a moment to take a picture of what you're getting, it's not a restaurant that cares. Simply comply and buy. read more

Ordered Har Gow and Kurobuta Pork W. Shrimp Soup Dumplings. They're frozen dumplings that are steamed to order. Disappointed, wish I had read more reviews, looked at photos, and looked more into the fast food aspect of the restaurant. You order on the screen and your number is called. You are free to grab your own plates and utensils. Restaurant is narrow, seat yourself. Had to wipe down our own table. read more

I've been here 2 times previously, and there were always some hiccups like the steamer being broken or being out of soup dumplings (I know, right?!)... but finally came here a 3rd time to try while attending a conference. Met the owner, MG, who was super friendly and told me they replaced the expensive steamer with a more traditional one that is easier to maintain and does not fail. I've also learned that they bring in the soup dumplings that are hand made in MG's other restaurant in Rowland Heights (that's super legit). Soup dumplings were perfect... not thin-skinned like DTF and the spicy pork and shrimp wontons were the best I've had. Lots of flavor and not too spicy. Cucumber salad was nice, crispy, and refreshing (it's a little sweet, but it is flavored with apples!)... wonton soup was also very delicious with a nice garlicky broth. I'll be back more often than when I'm here for conferences or tournaments. Great job, MG! read more

We recently visited Chubby Dumplings in Anaheim and was pleasantly surprised an authentic-ish place was just a stone's throw away from the Disneyland Park and several hotels (we stayed at Hotel Lulu and it was just around the corner) The self-serve kiosk made ordering a breeze, and the service was incredibly fast. While most of the things we ordered were pretty good, things seemed small portion wise and some of the dishes like the mouth-numbing noodle dish, in particular, was way too salty - even for someone who enjoys Mala and have eaten many versions of this elsewhere! That being said, there were plenty of other options to choose from, and I appreciated the variety. Overall, I'd recommend Chubby Dumplings for its convenient location and quick service, plus getting variety other than American fare on this street. read more

This restaurant is located close to the Anaheim Convention Center. It is under a hotel and right next to Blaze pizza. The restaurant is more of a fast casual vibe where you order at a kiosk and find a seat. All of the items are presented in Togo containers so you can bring home anything you don't finish there. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the soup dumplings because they were sold out. But our favorites were the Dan Dan noodles with minced beef, steamed pork bao, and fried pork wontons. We will be back again to try the other items. read more

I had high expectations for Chubby Dumpling based on its stellar ratings and a mention in Michelin. Unfortunately, my experience didn't quite live up to the hype. The garlic dry noodle lacked the depth of flavor I was hoping for and tasted rather bland. The soup dumplings, while decent, were simple and lacked the refinement I associate with high-quality dumplings. Overall, the experience was not superb. The food was a bit above average, a middle-of-the-road affair--not spectacular. To be fair, we did order to go, which might have affected the quality. We'll definitely give it another shot by dining in next time. The place look clean and modest. Not crowded and it took a while for someone to come out to the counter and greet us. May have been a bad day. read more

To start, half the menu was out of stock when I came in at 9 PM. They don't have a way to enter any membership perks. The food was decent, the dan dan noodles were overcooked, the custard bao and shumai are just sitting in a steamer and tasted like they were there for a while. The custard bao had a lot of bread and the custard inside wasn't runny, overcooked from sitting so long. The only thing good was the crispy shrimp read more

We ordered for pick up through Yelp. Sesame Dan Dan Noodle $12.50 Taiwaneses Popcorn Chicken $8.99 BBQ Pork Baos $7.45 Szechuan Spicy Wonton Wagyu Beef $14.00 Cripsy Wonton Premium Pork $14.00 Ordering for pickup was super easy and convenient as we were staying in the hotel upstairs. Food was pretty decent. The name is what really drew us in to order from them lol. Cute name and good food. Just be aware the dishes aren't really shareable sizes so if you order one dish, you are able to share it or just eat in on your own. The pork baos were delicious and super filling. Had a little sweetness to the sauce. Very good. Tasted fresh as well. Freshly steamed. The spicy wontons were good as well. Probably like a 3 out of 5 on the spicyness level. If you're sensitive to spicy, this will be too much for you lol. Comparing them to din tai fung, I would say their wontons are comparable. They're more spicy than dtf imo but the quality is great. read more

Ambiance was hip. The service was good. Staff seemed to like their job since they were engaging with the customers. Tended to their needs and handed the customers what they came up to the counter for without asking...basically eavesdropping. The food was okay. I had to try this place again, but the first time it was another dumpling place and they still came up on my maps with the old name‍. I've passed by this a couple times and got excited to try once I was in the area. But honestly a little underwhelmed. This place is order over the counter and find yoru seat to eat, so not a true sit down dine in experience. The menu had a lot of different items ranging from noodles to dumplings. I was eating by myself but had to try the noodles and the dumplings. It may have been too much food but I ordered the beef noodles and the xlb. They weren't bad but I guess I had higher expectations for the Chubby famiy. Soup noodles were good! Wish it had a little more veggies. the noodle consistency was nice. The XLB was yummy too but wish it was a bit more juicy. I think waiting for 30+ min for my food kind of threw my mood off and I had to check in with counter for my food as other people were getting food for the famiyl before I did. If you're in the disneyland area and want beef noodle soup or dumplings this is a good spot. If you are willing to drive a bit further I'd probably do that haha. read more

If I could give this a half rating, I would choose a 3.5/5 but nothing was compelling enough to get me to round this to a 4/5. For context, this spot is within walking distance of the convention center and associated hotels that often hold events. I was at a conference and decided to walk over for a quick bite with some friends -- though to be fair, it seemed like everyone decided this was the place to be for this particular lunch day. You order at a couple of ipads inside and they will grab your drink for you if you opt for one. Then you hang tight and wait for your food...which can become pretty haphazard if it gets crowded like it was when we were there. They were slammed and not quite ready for a bigger crowd and seemed to push food out in a piecemeal manner. The orders were also not clearly announced so people were grabbing others orders and not really paying much attention to what was going on. It was also odd that all of the food items came out in to go containers and the set up was really not conducive to even grabbing napkins or utensils since ALL the food came out in one corner. I had the veggie dumplings and the sesame noodles and added some chili oil to both. They were fine but nothing to write home about. Esp the noodles which came out rather stuck together and took a really heavy hand to mix together. My friend felt the same way about his food. It's convenient if you're nearby but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

The family and I stopped in here for dinner after a long drive from the valley to Anaheim to spend a couple of days at Disneyland. Unfortunately, while the food was solid, there were some glaring cleanliness issues that made the experience less than stellar. First, when we got to the table we planned to sit at, it was dirty. There was no one available to clean it, so we grabbed the spray bottle and towel ourselves. While the guy behind the counter seemed friendly enough, it's frustrating to have to clean our own table when dining out. After finishing our meal, I went to grab a refill on ice and noticed something disturbing. There was mold or bacterial growth along the side of the soda machine, likely caused by water buildup or a leak. Upon closer inspection, the entire machine looked grimy. The top was dusty and just waiting to drop something nasty into a cup. This was really disappointing because all four of us genuinely enjoyed the food. Our meal came to about $100 for the four of us. Expect to spend $15-$20 per person at this place. The quality of the food made me want to give this place four stars, but the sanitary issues were hard to overlook. Honestly, if the food hadn't been as good as it was, this would've been a two-star review. But the cleanliness, especially the state of that soda machine, makes me worry about the condition of the kitchen we couldn't see. For now, three stars--but if the management prioritizes cleanliness and maintenance, this place has real potential. read more

I had chubby dumpling delivered to my hotel while I was traveling for work and it was worth ordering. I picked up the sesame dumplings, pork and shrimp dumplings, Dan Dan noodles and cucumbers. There were significantly more cucumbers in the container than I thought. They offered the perfect crunchy bite for the noodles and dumplings. I was a little disappointed in the fact that the pork and shrimp dumplings were not pork and shrimp but pork and chive. Nonetheless they were still really good and absolutely worth the wait for delivery. The dumplings were packed full of filling and the dumpling skins cooked to perfection. read more

Good food right where we needed it. We're in town for Wondercon and we're looking somewhere for lunch and stumbled upon Chubby dumplings ~10 min from the convention center. Wandered in and ordered some of the pork xiao long bao , some Kurobata pork dumplings, and some custard dumpling for dessert. YUM! So happy to find this gem! Reasonably priced soup dumplings are so hard to come by, and they usually don't travel well, so I really can't believe the prices at this place and the ease of take out. Surprisingly, it looks like most patrons do take out instead of dining in. The vibe inside is really cute and minimalist, and very clean. I would have stayed and eaten there if I could have! The ordering is all done via touch screen at the counter so you make all of your selections and payment on your own. I personally love the efficiency. If you do need assistance, the staff is right there behind the counter offering help. They're all extremely communicative and friendly. My order (for a family of 4) was ready within ten minutes and packaged beautifully. If you need extra sauces, you simply ask the person behind the counter and they give you as many as you need. No gatekeeping of sauces like some other establishments, which I appreciated! The additional condiments and utensils are organized neatly at the counter for you to take as you need. As for the quality of food, delicious! Loved the dumplings and noodle dishes we got. We even got dessert to top off our meal. The only slight issue I noticed was that the Sesame Dan Dan Noodle dish dried out a bit by the time I reached my destination, and since the sauce hadn't dressed all the noodles, it was a little hard to toss. Nevertheless, the flavor was amazing and we ate the whole thing. I also wish there was fresh ginger offered, but that's just a personal preference because I'm obsessed with ginger. Will definitely be back again! The entire menu looks mouth-watering and we only got to try a few things so we'll have to come back for more. Even my ultra picky two-year old was asking for more! read more

Who are they trying to play here. This estabkishment has changed ownership and with it its dumplings. They use to be Luscious Dumplings--now its Chubby Dumplings. I even asked if its the same and they said yes just a name change; which is not true. So I didn't like essentially being lied to. But their "famous pork dumpling" just was not the same. This had a cinnamon type crust on it and was slightly underseasoned with no slight liquid juice on the inside. They also no longer have the ghost powder either. I felt it was somewhat overstaffed maybe 4-5 staff. Especially as they encouraged ppl to use the kiosk to order (which is fine) but once a line forms I feel like you should start taking people's orders opposed to just starring at them behind the register. There was 2 employees behind the register while a 2-3 ppl line formed opposed to just taking their orders. read more

The restaurant is clean. For a Michellin restaurant, the Chicken fried rice was greasy. The soup dumplings were on par with takeout. Tin Dai Fung is still better. The wagyu baos were doughy which were about 2.5 inches in diameter (dough) but the filling was the size of a marble. read more

First, the parking lot was tiny. The restaurant was pretty small and not really what i was imagining. You order from the tablet and pretty much everything is self service. You pick up the food when its ready. Get your own utensils and what not. Which is fine until.... You order and notice all the prices. This place is VERY expensive for what it is. 6 dumplings/wontons/soup dumplings for $12 is very pricey. $2 per is WILD to me. At that point id rather go to din tai fung where i actually sit and be waited on by a staff. This place served everything in paper or plastic to go containers. My friend and i spent over $50 for a fast food spot. On to the food. Was it delicious? Short answer. No. It was not worth. The cucumbers were very sweet. We had to add soy sauce and sriracha to balance out the sweetness and even then it didnt really work. The popcorn chicken was juicy and crsipy but bland. The fried wontons were decent but not for $2 per wonton. The spicy wontons were pretty good but still on the sweet side and lastly we got the mala spicy noodles and it wasnt mala at all. The pork in it were really soft and they seem to disintegrate in my mouth. All in all. The food was expensive and not that good. I dont understand their michelin guide. I was pretty excited to try this place cause I just love dumplings and noodles. Wasn't sure based on the reviews what to expect cause it was such a mix. Not sure if we just came on a really bad off day but man...we had to wait an hr for all 3 dishes to be done, they were super backed up, not quite sure what the reason was...hopefully that's not how it usually is We got - crab/pork soup dumpling 4/5: the best thing we had gotten, had some soup inside and tasted good with the ponzu dip we had chosen - sichuan chili oil wonton 2/5: the wonton itself was pretty good but there wasn't much flavor from the chili oil, literally just felt like oil - sesame sauce noodle 1/5: the dish that came last and unfortunately most disappointing.
