They weren't bad but I guess I had higher expectations for the Chubby famiy. Soup noodles were good! Wish it had a little more veggies. the noodle consistency was nice. The XLB was yummy too but wish it was a bit more juicy. I think waiting for 30+ min for my food kind of threw my mood off and I had to check in with counter for my food as other people were getting food for the famiyl before I did. If I could give this a half rating, I would choose a 3.5/5 but nothing was compelling enough to get me to round this to a 4/5. For context, this spot is within walking distance of the convention center and associated hotels that often hold events. I was at a conference and decided to walk over for a quick bite with some friends -- though to be fair, it seemed like everyone decided this was the place to be for this particular lunch day. You order at a couple of ipads inside and they will grab your drink for you if you opt for one. Then you hang tight and wait for your food...which can become pretty haphazard if it gets crowded like it was when we were there. They were slammed and not quite ready for a bigger crowd and seemed to push food out in a piecemeal manner. The orders were also not clearly announced so people were grabbing others orders and not really paying much attention to what was going on. It was also odd that all of the food items came out in to go containers and the set up was really not conducive to even grabbing napkins or utensils since ALL the food came out in one corner. I had the veggie dumplings and the sesame noodles and added some chili oil to both. They were fine but nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, while the food was solid, there were some glaring cleanliness issues that made the experience less than stellar. First, when we got to the table we planned to sit at, it was dirty. There was no one available to clean it, so we grabbed the spray bottle and towel ourselves. While the guy behind the counter seemed friendly enough, it's frustrating to have to clean our own table when dining out. After finishing our meal, I went to grab a refill on ice and noticed something disturbing. There was mold or bacterial growth along the side of the soda machine, likely caused by water buildup or a leak. Upon closer inspection, the entire machine looked grimy. The top was dusty and just waiting to drop something nasty into a cup. This was really disappointing because all four of us genuinely enjoyed the food. Our meal came to about $100 for the four of us. Expect to spend $15-$20 per person at this place. The quality of the food made me want to give this place four stars, but the sanitary issues were hard to overlook. Honestly, if the food hadn't been as good as it was, this would've been a two-star review. But the cleanliness, especially the state of that soda machine, makes me worry about the condition of the kitchen we couldn't see. I had chubby dumpling delivered to my hotel while I was traveling for work and it was worth ordering. I picked up the sesame dumplings, pork and shrimp dumplings, Dan Dan noodles and cucumbers. There were significantly more cucumbers in the container than I thought. They offered the perfect crunchy bite for the noodles and dumplings. I was a little disappointed in the fact that the pork and shrimp dumplings were not pork and shrimp but pork and chive. We were there for Monday lunch after a nereby hospital visit and everything was bad for us. My son wants the piggy bun(that's why we were there) but they're running out. So we ordered the Wagyu bun, pork rice and the custard bun. It took 25 minutes for the food to come out, and the rice and Wagyu buns were not hot. The custard bun even took longer. The taste I would say is just fast food level. But they charge about 50% more than similar food in other restaurants. The whole setup is like fast food too but their indoor seating was not kid friendly at all and we have to sit outside. About 30 minutes after ordering, I received a call saying they had no pork products available at all. Unfortunately, the order could not be canceled at that point. We went ahead and received the food, but the experience did not improve. The Wagyu ramen was extremely unpleasant--strong, off-putting flavor and honestly not edible. I could not finish it. The beef fried rice was just okay, but the peas were raw, and the beef in both dishes did not taste like Wagyu by any stretch. Between the inventory issue, late communication, and overall poor food quality, this was a very disappointing experience. Reasonably priced soup dumplings are so hard to come by, and they usually don't travel well, so I really can't believe the prices at this place and the ease of take out. Surprisingly, it looks like most patrons do take out instead of dining in. The vibe inside is really cute and minimalist, and very clean. I would have stayed and eaten there if I could have! The ordering is all done via touch screen at the counter so you make all of your selections and payment on your own. I personally love the efficiency. If you do need assistance, the staff is right there behind the counter offering help. They're all extremely communicative and friendly. My order (for a family of 4) was ready within ten minutes and packaged beautifully. If you need extra sauces, you simply ask the person behind the counter and they give you as many as you need. No gatekeeping of sauces like some other establishments, which I appreciated! The additional condiments and utensils are organized neatly at the counter for you to take as you need. As for the quality of food, delicious! Loved the dumplings and noodle dishes we got. We even got dessert to top off our meal. The only slight issue I noticed was that the Sesame Dan Dan Noodle dish dried out a bit by the time I reached my destination, and since the sauce hadn't dressed all the noodles, it was a little hard to toss. Nevertheless, the flavor was amazing and we ate the whole thing. I also wish there was fresh ginger offered, but that's just a personal preference because I'm obsessed with ginger. Who are they trying to play here. This estabkishment has changed ownership and with it its dumplings. They use to be Luscious Dumplings--now its Chubby Dumplings. I even asked if its the same and they said yes just a name change; which is not true. So I didn't like essentially being lied to. But their "famous pork dumpling" just was not the same. This had a cinnamon type crust on it and was slightly underseasoned with no slight liquid juice on the inside. They also no longer have the ghost powder either. I felt it was somewhat overstaffed maybe 4-5 staff. Especially as they encouraged ppl to use the kiosk to order (which is fine) but once a line forms I feel like you should start taking people's orders opposed to just starring at them behind the register. First, the parking lot was tiny. The restaurant was pretty small and not really what i was imagining. You order from the tablet and pretty much everything is self service. You pick up the food when its ready. Get your own utensils and what not. Which is fine until.... You order and notice all the prices. This place is VERY expensive for what it is. 6 dumplings/wontons/soup dumplings for $12 is very pricey. $2 per is WILD to me. At that point id rather go to din tai fung where i actually sit and be waited on by a staff. This place served everything in paper or plastic to go containers. My friend and i spent over $50 for a fast food spot. On to the food. Was it delicious? Short answer. No. It was not worth. The cucumbers were very sweet. We had to add soy sauce and sriracha to balance out the sweetness and even then it didnt really work. The popcorn chicken was juicy and crsipy but bland. The fried wontons were decent but not for $2 per wonton. The spicy wontons were pretty good but still on the sweet side and lastly we got the mala spicy noodles and it wasnt mala at all. The pork in it were really soft and they seem to disintegrate in my mouth. All in all. The food was expensive and not that good. I dont understand their michelin guide. I was perusing Yelp and saw all the positive reviews on Yelp so this was top on my list to try while in Anaheim. There is a small parking lot in the back but it's shared by the other shops in the area. When we walked in it was freezing inside so we went back to the car to grab our jackets. We ordered from the kiosk and seated ourselves while we waited for our food (there's some seating but not a lot). Our food came out one by one as some items took longer to prepare. We shared the following: pork soup dumplings (6 pieces), Taiwanese popcorn chicken, steamed piggy buns (3 pieces), scallion pancakes, Taiwanese beef ramen soup, and wonton ramen soup. The wonton ramen soup was super bland and the wontons were no better. Ramen noodles were an odd choice for both of the noodle soups and I didn't care for them. The scallion pancakes were so oily and hard to bite through. My daughter took a few bites and didn't want any more and I also gave up after finishing a piece. Very disappointed at the place. Was in Anaheim for a conference, found this place which got a Michelin BIB (not a star) spot. Decided to check it out for lunch. The wait was over an hour, from I got to the spot, to ordering, to them forgot my order, to me taking everything to go. The xiao long bao was extremely overrated. The wrap and the interior looked and tasted non-authentic, super salty, and not fresh. Pot stickers are better but the receptionist told me that since everyone ordered pork or chicken potstickers so my beef ones had to wait extra 25 mins. What was worse was that they even forgot my order in the middle of everything. I know it was busy during lunch but at least be nice about it.... I was very excited to try this place but the food was incredibly bland and when it did have flavor it left a questionable taste with a strange texture. Could not finish which is very unfortunate. The noodles were very cheesy and with the wagyu reminded me of frozen food. The cucumber salad was extremely disappointing. The chicken dumplings were very flavorless unfortunately. We had these dishes recommended to us too! The employees were very sweet and accommodating and the space was VERY clean. These are the only reasons we were okay with giving this place 2 stars, but in terms of food we would not consider that at all! Do not recommend unfortunately! Eveything was delicious! The angus steak was so tender! Siu mai was pricey and only came with 3 pcs, so a little bummed with that. Yellow custard bun was great too! We would definitely come back to try the other items! They also come in reusable containers, which was great to reuse at home. Inside of the shop was small, but well lit and bright. Checked out this place after seeing it had a Michelin Gourmand, they must've served them their best and then dipped. Yikes. Got shrimp & pork shui mai, pan fried pork dumplings, shrimp wonton noodle soup, and Dan Dan noodles. The dumplings had too thick of noodle around them, and then weren't cooked fully through so we had several bites that were hard to chew through. The soup broth was yummy if lacking a little salt, but the wontons kept falling apart like it had sat for a while. The Dan Dan noodles were really sticky and hard to pull apart and lacked a depth of flavor that's normally expected with them. The shui mai had no flavor and when we looked inside the pork was still pink and raw... Inside is fine, seating is clean and it's a small place. I only gave a second star because the servers were nice, but tbh you order off a kiosk so make of that what you will. read more
