I placed an online order for the baked fish plate around 12:45 PM and expected a bit of a wait since it was fish. After waiting about 25 minutes, I called and was told it would be another 10-15 minutes. The restaurant was busy, so I understood. However, after waiting longer and checking inside twice, my order still wasn't ready and there seemed to be confusion about its status. In total, I waited close to an hour for an order that was placed online in advance. What bothered me most was seeing customers who ordered in person receive their food before me. It felt like my online order had been overlooked. If online ordering is offered, those orders should be monitored and fulfilled properly, especially during busy times. The food itself was good, but the plate could have been put together better. The fries were placed directly on top of the fish, which made them soggy and took away from the presentation. It would make much more sense to serve the fries on the side. We started off with the Veggie Combo to kind of test the waters and it was a go after that. Next we dove into their Chicken Kabob Plate with a marinade that was lip smacking. I've been a regular customer at Zait and Zaatar for a long time and I genuinely used to love their food, but the quality has gone downhill significantly, and the number of order mistakes has become ridiculous. This time, I ordered two shrimp bowls. In the order notes, I specifically requested one bowl without cheese and without sauce inside. After placing the order, I even called the restaurant to make sure the employee understood the request, and I was assured it was understood. When my order arrived, both bowls had cheese and both were completely drowned in sauce. So what was the point of calling and confirming the order if the request was simply ignored? On top of that, the mushrooms were literally burnt and inedible, and the food packaging was dirty and poorly handled from the outside. The photo speaks for itself. This is not even the first bad experience. The previous time I ordered by phone for pickup, the manakeesh were burnt and tasted terrible, while the chicken shawarma was only okay, the chicken didn't taste fresh. The meat shawarma also had pieces that seemed like scraps or leftovers. After multiple disappointing experiences, I'm done. Zait and Zaatar is a casual dine in restaurant and bakery operating mainly from its take out counter - my friend noted that rarely do Lebanese places offer both a bakery and a sit down space serving shawermas such as this one. We ordered a little bit of everything off their expansive menu, so much so that the staff had to bring in an extra table in order to pile on more plates. I loved their signature Zait & Zaatar and Haloumi from their Bakery section, both served as a form of flatbread. The Zait & Zaatar in particular was baked with a delicate blend of spices that was so fragrant and unique. We then each ordered a Saj wrap - I loved my Sojuq Wrap, which was slightly spicy, with the ground beef complementing the crunchy pickles perfectly. One of my favorite parts was watching the food being cooked right in the fire oven--you can literally see everything coming together in real time. I tried the cheese and zaatar bread, and it was so delicious--crispy, flavorful, and super comforting. The potatoes were to die for! so crispy on the outside and so fluffy on the inside. They also have a mini bakery section, perfect if you're just stopping by for a snack or something quick to-go. Their drink selection is also unique--lots of options you won't find at your typical spot. On top of that, the owner and staff are incredibly friendly, and the portions are generous for the price. Their Kebab items are delicious and IMHO properly prepared. Prices are on the high side but fair. The set-up is quasi self-service, so the scope of service is different. read more
