I'm back here again - trying a refreshing drink called Halo Halo, meaning "mix mix" in Filipino. It is so delicious. It comes with fruit layered in the bottom with ice cream on top and Ube ice cream as well as some flan pieces and it is so delicious... I know I said that, but it's so nice. I had to say it twice. This is a really unique thing that would be most comparable to a milkshake for a lot of people You can eat any way you like, but I'm told that people commonly mix it up although you can eat the layers individually of course if you choose It has several chunks of banana jackfruit, even some sweet potato, which may not be something you associate with this type of drink/dish normally but it really works here. While staying at a hotel, we asked the Filipino staff where they go for Filipino food, most said the local options weren't great, but one person specifically recommended Fil Cuisine in Kent. We had been to the other Fil Cuisine location twice and were disappointed both times, so expectations were cautious. This visit started off strong, though. We were greeted right away by a friendly waitress - she was funny, and very upfront. She warned us that regular portions are already massive and family size would be super-sized. She was absolutely right. When the food came out, we were shocked by how large the portions were. The waitress came back with a playful "I told you so," which made us laugh. Food-wise, it was hit or miss: - Ginisang munggo was delicious. We finished the entire bowl. Highly recommend. - Mixed pancit looked great but was a bit bland. Loved the fresh lemon (not packets) with it and asked for more. - Pork adobo fried rice tasted like garlic fried rice. No real adobo flavor detected and it also was light in seasoning. - Papaitan was Tagalog-style (no bile or liver) and would have been a winner for us but it too lacked the expected flavor punch. - Ube halaya was a bonus. It was made fresh and still warm with a soft fudgey texture. We spooned it. Highly recommend. - Hot tea turned out to be chamomile, which we didn't expect and didn't enjoy. We had plenty of leftovers to take back to the hotel. Several dishes needed condiments or seasoning help since flavors were muted. Easy fix so no worries. The restaurant itself is spacious, comfortable, and great for big families. The ladies from the kitchen who came out to check on us were also friendly and chatty. I've been coming to Filcuisine for years and have always enjoyed their food, but this was the first time I walked away truly disappointed. I ordered the beef Nilaga, and what I received was a bowl loaded with fat and very little actual meat. It was so greasy that I completely lost my appetite. I politely explained to the staff that the dish was overwhelmingly fatty, and their response was that there's "a pound of beef" in the bowl. I'd have to disagree, it felt more like a pound of fat. I was also told that "some people like the fatty parts," but honestly, I don't know who those people are because this was a heart attack waiting to happen. I'm writing this review as I scoop up my last piece of pork adobo fried rice. I recently moved to Washington and was already missing my family's cooking. My coworker actually brought in food from this establishment because it's one of his favorite spots, and can I just say that even a few hours later and reheated in the microwave was enough to get me emotional once I tried my first bite like that one scene with the food critic in Ratatouille. The ambiance of the place is always the same, very clean and the servers (aka I call the ladies) are super sweet and you always see them working on things so they stay busy! Absolutely disgusting experience. Multiple people in our household got violently sick after eating this food, and it was bad enough that we had to report it to DoorDash as a food safety issue. This wasn't 'bad service' or 'cold food,' this was genuine food poisoning symptoms after eating here. For a restaurant to send out food that makes an entire household sick is completely unacceptable and honestly dangerous. We spent over $100 just to end up miserable for the rest of the night. Came here from Las Vegas. As a Filipino American, it is hard to find places in the US that are comparable to authentic Filipino food, but Fil Cuisine hits the mark on all accounts. We ordered the lechon kawali, fried rice, pork lumpia, pansit bihon, grilled pompano, and halo halo. It was suggested by our wonderful server Jen to order the pork lumpia and it was a hit. Overall my favorite is the lechon kawali. It has a great balance of soft on the inside and crispy skin on the outside. Serving sizes are huge by the way. For authentic, high quality Filipino food, the service was fast. Place is quiet and well maintained for families of all sizes. What happened to the Kent FilCuisine? I have been a customer for almost 10-years. They are my go-to whenever I crave for Filipino food and don't have time to cook. I overlooked at the price as they are getting expensive. But if the quality is affected, I ought to say something. Last Monday, I ordered for pick-up. I was extremely disappointed with the beef Mechado and beef Caldereta. The taste is the same and both bland. I added a little salt thinking it will enhance the flavor, still they taste exactly the same. The only difference is, caldereta has few carrots and few sausage slices. Also, caldereta should have a little spice, there was none. And here's the kicker, each container has 2 whole pieces of potatoes (4-pieces of halved red potatoes). I could also count the decent size of beef pieces, the rest are sliver of beef particles. It could have been acceptable if the sauce is tasty - as the saying goes, "sarsa pa lang, ulam na". The pinakbet was decent, but also super bland. I need to add a little alamang to make it savory. Another thing is, there were no delicacies - they used to have cassava, leche flan, etc. what they had are 4-packages of corned beef pandesal and 2-packages of pan de coco. Hope the Kent location is not being disregarded. It's just sad if their concentration is more on the Lynnwood location. I even told them once that the Kent has better tasting food than Lynnwood. I flew in from LA and had a quick stop here as I was craving some Filipino food with my pops. The Kare Kare and the Lechon Kawali were my favourite. I've been here a couple times before and my visit yesterday was different. We were a party of 7. I walked in first before my group to get a seat. I stiod there for over 10mins to be acknowledged. I was patient understanding that the big tables were full. My group finally sat to order. We didn't wait long to get our food however the presentation and taste of the food was not what we were expecting. When we were ready to pay our bill we were told that only cash was accepted. Even though the sign on the door said different. We had to go to the mini store next door and get some cash. When paying the cashier gave me the total and asked to keep the change because she forgot to add the service charge. Which was fine. However she gave me a receipt that had no prices listed what looks like to be an order receipt. I didn't want to hold up the line so i just took what she gave me and left. I felt like i was chewing forever till i decided whether to swallow it or spit it out. The pork adobo was not that bad it was still a little bland but not as much aa the chicken adobo. But it was very oily. The chicken skewers were super cold to the point where i had to microwave them bc it felt like they had it sitting in the fridge then just slapped it in a plate.
