This is a great location and honestly I wanted to love it. Unfortunately the service and food quality just wasn't there. I think it's over priced and for what you get it seems the value just doesn't make sense. Since Fig tree complained and removed my original post because they didn't seem to think I was actually there... I am going to get more detailed. I understand prices are high and I don't mind paying if it's worth it, but honestly the coffee wasn't even that great and not up to the gourmet vibe/pricing of the place ... we had regular drip and a latte -$12 . For breakfast we had fig tree and stuffed ricotta french toast, it was really just two pieces of bread folded in half with a small amount of filling and topping. In my opinion not worth $16/17 and not to mention a side of bacon and eggs is $8, again not worth it. We also had the breakfast sandwich that was $15/16 and again not even close to worth the value, a small amount of egg , they were out of sausage so they provided 2 pieces of bacon and arugula lettuce. Don't forget a surplus of chopped potatoes. Overall I believe in tipping so we ended up at a total of around $60-65. The other major problem here was that our waiter was awful and didn't even seem to know where he was as well as how to take care of a table. I came to Fig Tree for brunch on a Saturday morning and we only had to wait 20 minutes for a table for two. The weather was pretty nice and I really liked the openness to the restaurant. I ordered the shrimp frittata. I changed my side of toast to the Brioche French Toast, and I changed the house made potatoes to the arugula potatoes. They accidentally brought be a whole entree size of the brioche French toast instead of just a side, and I probably had enough food to feed three people. My friend ordered the Fig and Ricotta French Toast. I liked all the food but they could have used some more flavoring especially the shrimp frittata. The brioche toast was really nice with bananas on top, and the fig toast was a different type I've never had before. The service was pretty quick and we had a smooth process. Overall, I think it's a decent brunch spot but it's not my favorite and I'm not going to crave any of the foods I've tried. read more

Fig Tree Cafe has been a little inconsistent when it comes to both food and service. My most recent experience would most definitely be one star if it weren't for a waitress named Jordan who helped resolve an issue. Especially considering she was a server in a separate section than where we were seated! Extremely helpful and very friendly! I'm assuming that maybe there was an unexpected issue with staffing due to waiting extremely long to be seated and served - if that were the case, that would be completely understandable. However, I wish the hostess and/or servers were more transparent with the issue rather than completely ignoring the line of people waiting to be seated without even an "I'll be right with you." We ordered two house coffees and asked for almond or any milk alternative they had. The coffee came about ten or fifteen minutes later without milk. After some time, we were able to ask the server. When they returned with the milk, it came in dipping dish. When I began pouring the milk into the mug, I noticed that it had food residue stuck to the side of it and piece that were floating on the bottom. Personally, I was not able to drink the coffee after seeing that and was going to ask for a new cup. Unfortunately, the food came at the same time as the milk dish and I was not able to get a fresh cup because service only came back to bring the bill. We were already done with our meal by that point and I asked if I could just get a fresh cup of black coffee to go instead due to the milk having food in it. Instead, the server came back with a new side of milk.... But thankfully Jordan helped when she saw me looking for assistance after waiting at the table to explain the situation again. Aside from the coffee issue and lengthy wait times, the food was very enjoyable. I absolutely love the vegan options Fig Tree offers. During this visit I ordered the Chorizo and Cauliflower Bennie. BEYOND savory! Even if you are not vegan, the dish is delicious. In the past I have had the Lemon Strawberry French Toast, which is vegan as well - though you would never know! I also really appreciate this business labeling which dishes are completely plant-based! This restaurant has a cute, cozy outdoor brunch ambiance and despite this last experience, I definitely return to this location and am hopeful that it will be a five-star review! read more

We came here for brunch. We ordered the breakfast sushi and the house cured smoked salmon + eggs Benny on focaccia. The breakfast sushi was innovative, great melding of flavors with the egg/rice/scallion mix, plum sauce, bacon and avocado. It was filling and delicious. The smoked salmon was velvety and the eggs perfectly done, bursting its yellow yolks on the eggs Benny. There also wasn't too much bread, which was good. Also liked the Lightly toasted potato cubes. Horrible time management with no customer flow nor organization. It was my first time giving this place a try and coming here today. On a Saturday, expect over an hour wait. We were told we'd be waiting 30-45 minutes. When it came to the allotted time, we were continuously told ohhh.. 10 more minutes... Despite seeing a group of people having just arrived being seated before us, definitely go somewhere else if you don't want to get to the point of hangry. Everything was excellent - the staff, the menu, the food, the service, the prices. We've driven by a few times when visiting SD and haven't stopped because of the line. Now we get why there is usually a line. We had the Huevos Rancheros which were fantastic. Love black beans on a crispy tortilla with 3 eggs. Excellent. Moved the jalapeños to the side, way too hot for us. Also had the veggie omelet, with lots of button mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, perfectly cooked kale and feta cheese - simply divine. 2.5 stars We came here on Mother's day and had about a 30 minute wait. Once seated, we were not in the courtyard or near the bar but in a rabbit warren of rooms called the "secret garden" opened when they are busy. The room we sat in had 3 4 tops and 3 2 tops and felt like being in a shipping container. There was a wooden surfboard mural on one wall, metal walls on the other and green house looking plastic for the roof. We had to wait a while but waters came out. Server took our drink order. I got the champagne flight ($15) and the flavors were vanilla bean, lavender, rose and cranberry. My husband wanted a screw driver and told the server just vodka and oj and they rang up a sparkling strawberry screw driver($10). It had no strawberry but had the Prosecco which he did not want. I ordered the American ($12) which is 3 eggs any way, 2 pieces of bacon, breakfast potatoes and choice of bread. I requested focaccia with jam. My husband ordered the berry sweet french toast ($13) with the combo option ($5) which got him eggs and bacon. My 6 year old got a half order of brioche french toast ($6). My husband ordered a coffee which was ($4) for a "bottomless" cup. Food took a while to come out and when out wasn't correct (maybe because the server did not write any thing down and took multiple tables orders) but my husband wanted cheese on his eggs (no cheese) and I wanted jam and got butter. We didn't see our server until we had almost finished eating so we just dealt with it. The food was meh. My eggs while scrambled were not light and fluffy like I like them and barely warm. The bacon was super greasy and very small. The berry compote on my husband's french toast was tasty. Over all our bill was $65 pre tax and $70.04 after for food that was just ok. I feel like part of what would make this an experience is the ambiance which we did not really have. I will try it one more time for non breakfast foods to see if that is any better. read more

San Diego has a really great brunch culture. There are so many options and I haven't encountered one I did not like. Fig Tree Cafe was selected by friend and it did not disappoint. It's outdoors but with plenty of shade and coverings. It has a really cool vibe and dogs are welcomed. When I think of San Diego, this place delivers in interior. The food was delicious. They are known for their mimosa flights and it changes seasonally. I finally had the chance to try the California burrito. It's a big burrito that will keep you full for a while. The man candy bacon was so good and I'm happy I ordered it. The potatoes were tasty and not over cooked. It was a delicious meal. Parking does suck. You may have to settle for parking three blocks down in the neighborhoods. read more

On vacation for a wedding and this was in walking distance from our rental. It was a cool beautiful morning, so sitting on their covered patio was perfect. Server was incredibly pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. The menu is creative and thoughtful and we had a hard time deciding. We decided on one savory and one sweet, and decided on the breakfast burrito with candied bacon and the fig-ricotta French toast. We also ordered a side of the house-cured salmon because it sounded special. Added a side of veggies, because, you know, health. The burrito was large and filled with wonderful things. Everything you want a breakfast burrito to be. Very very good. The candied bacon is superb. The French toast was sweet, but not overly so. The ricotta complemented the jam on both toast and texture. Syrup is served on the side, but not needed. The home-cured salmon was pitch-perfect. Buttery and bright and not fishy at all. Veggies were well-cooked and seasoned. Coffee was also excellent, came in large welcoming mugs, and the server kept it coming. Wholly recommend this as an eating spot. read more

Parking can be a process due to the location of the restaurant; there's street parking and resistental. I went here with 3 friends. The wait was about 30-40minutes. The vibe is very alive and decorative - it's cheerful and fun. Which justifies the long wait times I suppose. Surprisingly the food is pretty good - it's hit or miss when with all these IG photo worthy places if they have any quality food. My breakfast go to is benedicts - I love trying new benedict creations restaurants put together. I had there house cured salmon ($17): w/focaccia, dil and beet house cured salmon, creme fraise, poached eggs, and topped with hollandaise sauce. I also ordered the Chai Tea Latte ($7). They have a pretty interesting antioxidant shot flight of 4 shots for $15. I wasn't in an experiential mood to try this, but my friend I went with ordered it and she said she'd order it again. Definitely worth trying for my hungover Sunday brunch crowd - I saw a number of other tables who ordered these flights too. But to no surprise, this place is fairly pricey (like $$) for the portion of food you get. I stopped in here for breakfast with my mom and sister when we were visiting PB this past weekend, and it was amazing! We started with some delicious coffee, and the flight of wellness juice shots. They were so fun! My mom and I split the chorizo scramble and the veggie scramble which were delicious. My mom is gluten free, and they even had gluten free bread and a bunch of other GF options. I love everything about this spot! We were trying to find a unique spot to get brunch in La Jolla and this spot popped up so we decided to give it a try even if it wasn't exactly in La Jolla. Everything was very good! The Crispy Pork Belly & Grits was exceptionally delicious. Yummy, soft and creamy smoked gouda grits, the soy marinated soft boiled egg with a perfect soft yolk, and the crispy pork belly combination was unexpectantly the best thing I have tasted! So so good!! The Shrimps in the Frittata were plump and perfectly cooked as well as the eggs. Not dry. The Chorizo Omelette was pretty good too with veggies mixed in the scramble served with crispy potatoes. May I also mention their yummy house-made catsup with a kick went so well with the crispy potatoes. Honey Lavendar was tasty and you can taste the honey and Lavendar distinctly in the drink. My friend loved her Mexican Mocha as well! Let me not forget about the french toast and pancakes!! The french toast was moist and soft with a good amount of ricotta and fig on it although the jam didn't taste like fig which I find ironic because of its namesake. I don't know but maybe it is a different type of fig from what I am used to. The pancakes were crispy but not hard on the outside but fluffy and moist in the inside. The apple fritter had a few pieces of apples and some sort of cinnamon crumble. The lemon ricotta was tart and lemony and paired well with the ricotta. They were pretty solid pancakes and french toast! All these food served in their own personalized cute little mugs and dishes.. adds to the charm of the cafe! Our waitress Eva was very nice and friendly despite her being by herself serving all the tables. I think she did very well taking care of the customers all on her own. What a stunning fall from grace for what was once one of San Diego's best brunch spots. Once known for their mind blowing French toast, what we had was worse than you would get at Denny's or IHOP and cost more. Gone are the gooey bananas foster...replaced with dry bread and a few slices of banana. No rosemary on the "Rosemary" potatoes. The eggs are worse, the bacon is worse, the service is definitely worse too. What happened to this place? I've heard the owner had to close a few of his restaurants...is there any reason to wonder why? The decor is still cute but there's no reason to come here anymore. Truly a brunch tragedy. read more

Ordered to-go strawberries and cream and it was amazing! I loved how they packaged the cream separately so that it wouldn't get watery and make the toast soggy. The cream itself was perfect, not too sweet! The toast are thick pieces and the strawberries were perfectly cut - they were ripe and sweet and no white spots! Highly recommend, even to-go!
