I love this place! The atmosphere is relaxing and serene. The service is incredible, my server, Mark was so friendly and helpful with the menu. He truly made the dining experience one to remember. The Veggie Scramble is to die for, and the Grilled Turkey Sandwich is one of a kind! If you're coming for breakfast, make sure you get a side of the Arugula Truffle Oil Parmesan Cheese potatoes!!!! This is a hidden gem -- a bit hard to find, but worth it! Had a business breakfast there and knew the moment I walked in that it would be great. The place has the Pacific Beach feel, laid back and beachy, and the food and service were both great. I had banana pancakes that featured slices of banana inside the "cakes" rather than on top of them. Yum! The two others in my group were equally enthusiastic about the bananas foster French toast and eggs Benedict. I will say I like my bacon a bit more crispy, but that was a minor detail given the relaxed atmosphere and attentive service. Definitely will be back. read more

I asked our host, who was one of the happiest people I've ever come across, if they had a sampler of all their breakfast items because I couldn't choose. Prior to selecting a meal, my cousin and I ordered the flight of antioxidant shots - goji, acai, and mangosteen. They were all delicious and made my body feel new again. Afterwards I embarked in one hell of a predicament in choosing food. Luckily they offered a coffee sampler, I believe it was noted as the caffeine sampler on the menu, but if I'm wrong then look for the option that says pick three coffees. I chose the Mexican mocha, vanilla latte, and home brewed coffee. The Mexican mocha is OUT OF THIS WORLD and puts the chains to shame as it is sweet, nutty, spicy, and addicting all in one cup. It was so delicious I took a cup of it to go afterwards! WORTH IT. The Vanilla latte was simple but delicious. The home brewed coffee was very strong and reminded me of Turkish coffee. All were amazing. As far as food, I just had to act on impulse so the first option out of my mouth was the one I was going to indulge in. I ordered the soy chorizo scramble. Wow. I was very satisfied with my choice, but there were way too many black beans for my liking. I did wish I ordered extra guac or avocado slices though. The scramble was amazing and spicy as chorizo usually is. Very delicious and flavorful especially when you wrap it with the toasted corn tortilla and top it with guac and fresh salsa. Compared to New York, the prices were very reasonable and you definitely get your money's worth! I was stuffed all day. I will definitely come back every time I visit the San Diego area! read more

We went to the FTC this morning for breakfast to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. I already knew that I was gonna get the peach French toast from reading the yelp reviews. Knowing this, we decided to walk from our house in Bird Rock in order burn off (some) of the calories which we were about to consume. We also used a Groupon coupon I had previously purchased which was a nice way to save money. Not that the FTC is expensive. I think the prices are very fair for what they offer. DH and I were quite pleased with the service and portion size. I had read that these two issues irked some people, but we didn't have a problem with either. The food was very good too. We shared the peach french toast which was amazing - and the syrup had bits of citrus in it...sooooo yummy. We also shared the crab cake bennie which was just as rich and decadent. We normally just eat a light breakfast of greek yogurt with berries so these two dishes were quite rich for us, but somehow we found a way to choke them down anyway. :) It really wasn't hard - they were both d'lish. We also tried the flight of shots....juice shots that is. Realllly interesting and very good. It was nice to see them on the menu because I honestly don't think I've ever seen anything like that on any other breakfast menu in town. DH was surprised that the FTC didn't offer an ACAI bowl on the menu...he would have ordered it had it been listed. All in all a great breakfast/brunch spot. I would love to give this place a higher rating because the food is great and a decent price, but the service is SO slow and the food takes forever to come out. Those the biggest hindrances to me wanting to come back more often. Also, they really should consider opening up the patio a little. It doesn't allow for a lot of sunlight. Consequently, it can be a little chilly on the patio and the rosemary growing doesn't get enough sunlight to live. read more

Wow. I LOOOOOVE this place. It's SUPER dog friendly. This place is an outdoor cafe so you can bring your dog so don't be surprised if there are dogs EVERYWHERE. My bf got the meatloaf hash which was absolutely delicious! I got the french toast with caremalized apples and oh my, THE BEST FRENCH TOAST I EVER HAD! It was so goooooood! I would like to give this place a better review, but I think i came on the wrong day. their was only one server, and he had about 9 tables. he was just running around like crazy. he also informed us there was only one cook, so we waited a pretty long time to eat. the food was pretty good, my brother got eggs benedict which was spectacular! i got something boring: eggs, potatoes, and toast, but it hit the spot too. the orange juice was fresh and cold, which to me is a great sign that i will be enjoying more meals here later. read more

Heard from a few friends that this place was pretty good. I went with my friend for breakfast and we were both expecting great things. We both ordered a variation of the Eggs Benedict. Upon eating our meal, we both agreed that we've had better before. The individual pancake I ordered was huge, but it was average at best. Another friend told me that their paninis are really good, so I guess I gotta give them a try sometime. This place is very frustrating because of the wait. There are a lot of servers so I think the kitchen must be tiny. I do like the food (breakfast sushi, shrimp and mango salad, meat loaf hash, various eggs benedicts) but the wait is ridiculous for such a casual outdoors place. We came in at 1:05 pm on a Tuesday probably 6 tables with people which is about 1/4 -1/3 full , it took 5-10 minutes to get one of the THREE servers and then and waited 30 minutes to get our food (salads!). No bread or anything to tide us over, unless you want to be charged. People came in immediately AFTER us so that in 10 minutes the place was about 1/2 full. When asked why it was taking so long the server said "we just had all these people come in". Lame. Next time, if there is a next time, I walk in and I see more than 3 tables with people, including the back part which I'll have to walk back to see, I will be walking out and heading next door to Leilani's or a block down the street to the Fishery. Like I said, the food is good but it isn't worth a 30 minute wait, which has been happening the last three visits. Don't ever go on weekends it's packed and you won't get your food for at least 45 - 60 minutes, definitely not the type of place worth waiting for. read more

We must have come on an off day- from the moment we walked in I realize we should have just left. The floors seats and menus were filthy. I ordered the black bean burger- the flavor was fine but the burger had no form to it. It was basically mush on a bun. The service was subpar and we waited for a very long time to get the bill. We always see a line out the door to eat at the Fig Tree and I'm sorry to say it was not good. They served us cold coffee and the place seems run down and the menus are sticky. We went for brunch today and the wait was about 20 minutes for 6 people which is pretty good for a Sunday brunch day. The setting is really nice and you feel like you're in the middle of nature. The seating is inside/outside and there are trees everywhere. This is both a plus and a minus because things from the trees kept falling. There were also a lot of flies buzzing around including a dead one in the menu. The menus definitely need to be changed because they are very gross, coffee stains, food droppings, and as mentioned the dead fly. Luckily the food was good. I got the lobster and crab cake eggs benedict, which was good, but definitely could use more crab and lobster. But the poached eggs and hollandaise were perfect. Even though the crab cake wasn't overflowing with crab and lobster it was still good. I upgraded the potatoes, the cheese was good, and there was too much arugula. Everyone loved their bloody Mary's and the sparkling strawberry screwdriver was strong yet delicious. I would return to give it another shot! read more

Outstanding food. Everything was fresh, delicious and lovingly homemade. I had the eggs Benedict with some delicious potatoes and my husband had white peach french toast. It would be hard to pick a favorite. It was all outdoor patio seating and we were in the direct sun and all 4 of us got sunburned. The only reason this isn't five stars is because it took FOREVER to get our food. We waited for more than an hour and admittedly we did come at the busiest time for breakfast, but an hour after we placed our order the food came. I would go back for sure but would bring a book, sunscreen and a hat. read more

Came here from the French toast reviews I saw online, they are very light with the consistency of a piece of garlic bread; however, they have the right amount of crispness, it's pretty rare to eat French toast these days that's not soggy, I'm very happy. ^_^. Well, well, well, this was a sweet find on a spring break day in PB. Totally eclectic, with a "local" flair. I felt like a local, doing the local thing. Loved it! The atmosphere was so awesome. It was like a big tent, a covered patio, something in the back yard of a good friend. The tables were worn wood. The floors were all mismatched in height, like Grandma's cabin. It was so relaxed. Comfortable. Get this. When does this ever happen???? We ordered our coffees/drinks/Mimosa ($4 so why not??) and she is taking like, oh, maybe 10 minutes or so to get back with them....she arrives and, wait for it, apologizes like crazy for "taking so long". What I am not telling you is that one of us ordered the caffeine sampler with three different lattes. Of course it took time! But she was so nice!!!! Service was number 1. The menu was extensive and it was hard to make my mind up. It all looked so good! The food that followed was incredible. Really good. I had the burrito. HUGE burrito - next time, I will share it with someone. The salsa was gooooood. The guacamole, although served as a $3.95 side dish, was good and worth the cost. The French toast arrived cut in huge thick slices, browned to perfection, with warm syrup and berries. Another plate at the table was the eggs benny, served with arugula, garlic fried potatoes and a really tasty hollandaise. The last plate of food was a scramble with cheese, bacon and delicious home potatoes. The food was good. All portions huge and worth the price. Cooked fresh, absolutely cooked right there, fresh. The bike ride back to the house was necessary as we ate everything our bellies could handle. We were stuffed, satisfied, well cared for by the servers and riding high on the mega strong coffee. It was delish. The folks that live in that neighborhood are blessed to have a cute place such as this to enjoy the birds singing over breakfast. We will definitely go back. Can't wait. read more
