Honestly I love the place. I just got myself some sweet duds there this past weekend. Pros: great finds, clean dressing rooms, easy to navigate space, attentive staff. Cons: On the pricey side AND. Ehhh. Let me explain I have a rising dislike for this "too cool for school" attitude that's been raging in Austin recently. We're a cool fun town to be in because we don't act like we're too cool. At least that's how it used to be. Feathers is just one of those places that attracts the wrong kind of Austinites in my opinion--but as one of the "it" places for vintage that's to be expected. All that said I love the clothes and I think they have a great thing going here; so I'm not letting the negative customers ruin my fun! read more

I accidentally wandered in there through (literally) Mi Casa - it was like finding a secret room in an old mansion. Unfortunately, I was on a budget, and the clothing and shoes on the $5-and-under rack were there for a reason. Why can't I ever get a Gunne Sax skirt for $5? The prices were boutiquey, but not outrageously so. I could have bought that Gunne Sax skirt for the $30 it was marked at and not have felt too guilty. There were a couple of things I found unique about this shop: the clothing is all separated by color, which is a wonderful thing for an OCD shopper. Also, they sold recycled notebooks made out of old books: the small ones were $12, the larger ones $15. Cool gift items! It's a cute store but the vintage boot selection was very small. They had like maybe 10 pairs. There was a good selection of vintage clothing and bags. There prices were reasonable. I'm not sure I would go back. They just didn't have much of a selection of boots. read more

Great store. It is simply the greatest vintage store here in Austin. Unlike a lot of vintage stores that have merchandise EVERYWHERE, everything at feathers is well curated and edited and styled that is easily shoppable. Emily is a true fashion lover who really knows her stuff, and has a great eye for vintage. This boutique specializes in 'bohemian' and Americana, with some classics and trends mixed in for good measure. Artisan jewelry and gifts are stocked as well, in addition to Alchemy brand t's. What I love most about Feathers is it's presentation. The way the racks are organized (and frequently reorganized) by color and/or theme makes for not only a pleasing visual, but a very user friendly experience. Most locals avoid shopping on SoCo due to the shortage of parking, but they'll make the pilgrimage for Feathers. This is more than just a store. It's a landmark and destination in and of itself. read more

I've recently traveled to Austin on my vacation a week or two ago and definitely had Feathers on my To-do list. I've followed their Instagram account as well as other social media accounts for awhile and I loved their bohemian vibe, which is similar to mine. But to my dismay, when my partner and I (both African American), entered the store, the customer service was way MORE then LACKING. The store owner proceeded to pretend to fix the items on the rack in every room we entered. None of the items on the shelves or rack even seemed like it needed to be straightened or fixed. As a fellow vintage shop owner, I understand the "constant" upkeep of appearances, but when the white shop owner proceeds to follow and "fix" in every room you zip back and forth to, there's a problem, especially when there is another (caucasian) customer in the next room. The store is but so big, so it was definitely very obvious. I have never experienced anything like that before and I was very disappointed. She only bothered to say hi and bye. Customer service reaches beyond saying hi and bye, it's actually engaging with your customers. As far as the product, great pieces, that I myself have come across before or sold out of my own shop. Amazing setup, despite the native american theme. However, the vintage items were obnoxiously overpriced. They are "borrowing" a native american/indigenousness + vintage theme, but are selling these products at overpriced prices that are aimed at traveling richer customers or rich neighboring fellow Austinites. Just another Shop that shows it's city's segregation on it's sleeves. Walked a few doors down to a neighboring vintage shop that was equally as priced, but had an amazing (white) shop owner who provided the best customer service and was polite and jolly as ever. What a difference great customer service will take you... Of course this review will not pertain to everyone, but please be mindful of which small businesses you are supporting. read more

On S. Congress, there are a handful of stores that deserve attention, but right off the main road, Feathers is the one I keep going to over and over again. The well-curated selection of cool, on trend vintage and reasonable prices make it a wonderful asset to the city. The store is neatly organized by style and the racks are not overcrowded like a lot of vintage stores. The girls that work there blend in perfectly and are very sweet and helpful. The store definitely has more of a '70s bohemian vibe but there really is something for everyone if that's not your style. On my last trip, I immediately saw a gorgeous wide-brimmed felt hat that I bought right off the mannequin for $35. A steal if you ask me. I do not live in Austin, but I still constantly find myself thinking, "I wonder what goodies Feathers has in stock right now..." read more

I am constantly complaining about the direction that vintage has gone in Austin. Everything is picked over and over-priced. But Feathers has managed to curate a spectacular collection that is not all a size 0 and is fairly priced for the quality. We need more places like this. read more

I discovered Feathers on my recent trip down to Austin from NY for SXSW. The Yelp reviews were good, so I had it on my list to check out and I was not disappointed. The layout of the store is clean and easy to navigate. In addition to clothes, shoes, and accessories, there was a nice collection of vintage magazines, art, and books. The sales girls were nice, helpful and even gave me a 50% discount on an item that will take some extra care to revitalize. I walked away with a pair of dancing shoes from the 40s, a gold beaded top from the 50s, and some nerdy sunglasses. Total purchase was less than $80...which I think is pretty good especially considering the time period and quality of the items. read more

Scheduled a selling appointment with them and the owner left mid day without rescheduling etc. I showed up for my appointment and basically was told she left and was going out of town for a week and I was "out of luck" I left but was actually upset at the amount of effort and time it took to try and sell so I called right back & left my name and number for the owner to call and reschedule. 2 weeks pass, Heard nothing. Commented on their ig & Finally received a message from the owner saying she left and forgot she had an appt with me and I could reschedule what's good for me. After reading the message I Attempted to reschedule and her response was she didn't have any available appointments this week but could try next week. Not only did I lug a ton of clothes over there once and not get to sell on HER error but now she couldn't fit me in because she was full? This place is a joke and NOT a place that shows respect to its customers. Sell with Moss or Garment Modern if you have exclusive vintage and designer pieces. This place will waste your time! Also the people who work here are rude & completely uneducated on vintage/archival designer & it's pretty evident that they discriminate . It's actual quite comical that someone working in a "second hand" boutique can act so uppity and flagrantly snobby. read more

This store contains a well-edited selection of vintage items that reflect current trends. There are a few rooms to check out. You enter and ooh and ahh over the non-vintage Jeffrey Campbell shoes. Turn left and find a variety of dresses, belts, and vintage shoes. Turn right and find more dresses, tops, coats, sale section, and dressing rooms. There's even a chair and coffee table stacked with vintage Playboys. Everything is neatly tagged with the time period from which it came and the price. Most things were from the 1970s-1990s. It is a little pricey, but someone's already done the digging for you and displayed it in a neat and not-overwhelming way. I found an awesome 90's era Betsey Johnson leopard print fur coat for less than $100. If I lived closer to here, this place would be part of my regular shopping destinations for unique, vintage clothing and accessories. read more

I was on a mission to find a cheap jacket on my first visit to Austin. It was a sunny day, but ridiculously windy & cold. My sleeveless shirt and shorts were not keeping me warm. I had to find something quick since my buddy and I were spending the rest of the night here. Went to all of the vintage stores in soco...nothing until I came to this place. I did a quick run around since the store was closing in 15 minutes and finally saw the jacket and fell in love. I have a thing for cape looking jackets and wraps. Then I thought to myself...damn Julie it is almost summer here why are you buying a jacket!? I ignored that thought and ended up buying it or else I will never see it again. The price for something used is over the amount I wanted to pay,but well worth it. I may have to go some where cold this winter to sport though. =) read more

Finally, a vintage shop that isn't just an overpriced thrift store! I love the taste of their buyers, and am always beside myself when I go in and like everything on the rack (as opposed to the usual vintage catastrophes where you're going through rack after rack of undesirables to find a gem). Every time I head down South Congress I have to stop into Feathers. And even when I think I'm going in to just "look around" I tend to leave with a new bag full of cute vintage dresses, tops, and accessories, without spending too much money. I love how the shop is set up into a few rooms, because after looking through one room, there is another one waiting for me, and another one after that! As a tried and true New Yorker, I can't help but drool everything I think about the delectable vintage offerings at Feathers. I chanced upon this adorable consignment shop last month during a weekend Austin trip. (btw, it's HOT there! sheesh.) The owners go on weekly driving trips around the area, scooping out yard/garage/estate sales. And do they ever find the coolest stuff! The selection is varied, the store is well lit and coordinated by color. And the prices, oh goodness the LOW prices downright shocked me into buying the goregous 50's kitschy cream dress I was holding in my hand. :) read more

I feel like "meeh" about this place. I did enjoy looking at everything but didnt buy anything. As far as "Vintage Boutiques" go this one is typical and has nothing out too special about it, even though I would probably still check it out next time i am in town. The prices were okay, not awesome, but okay a Anna Sui dress was like $40, and shoes were like $30+. The lady in the store when I went in was nice but not too welcoming? I really like this store. It is not my favorite in Austin, but it is on the higher side of the top 10. I almost always find something I like and wear often. The problem for me (and this has nothing to do with the store itself), is that I live in a suburb of Dallas, and this town doesn't really "get" vintage. So I usually save my purchases and add them to my "Austin" or west-coast travel wardrobe and wear them then. This works fine for me, as I look for any opportunity I can to get out of DFW. The ONLY thing that holds me back from a 4-5 star review for Feathers is the store's layout. And by layout, I do NOT mean display (their displays are fantastic and artistic). The store is made of several small rooms that have steps leading up or down to them. While most of the 20s-30s set whom the store caters to can navigate this easily, I have a toddler who goes nuts in stores if he is not securely fastened to a stroller. So, I can not make it to Feathers as much as I want to, since my little rascal is pretty much constantly at my side when I travel. I do have to think, too, that if someone has any physical limitations, that it would be a struggle for them to shop here. So, when I am actually able to go to Feathers, I always have a good experience and fun shopping... but today, even though I wanted to go to Feathers, I ended up at a wheels-friendly vintage store instead. read more

What an awesome little store. I love the layout of the store, it reminds me a lot of the boutiques in SF around haight & ashbury. I'm not a big fan of vintage clothes but the SHOES!!! To die for... I was a bit sad that a pair of heels were too small for my feet but I saw a few pairs of ferragamos which were really nice. I didn't really examine everything since I was on a bit of a budget for this first trip to Austin. It would be great to come back and actually shop. read more

The women who were running the store when I walked in were very nice and greeted me and did not hover which was a plus.
