I had a question about one of the items in the store and the bald guy @ the register gave me the rudest comment back basically telling me "are you going to buy it or not". Small shop, warm, was not greeted or acknowledged by staff. That was until my daughter knocked over a brochure holder from a table near the entrance. Before I could pick it up, someone yelled at us from a few feet away. Staff/employee proceeds to curse ( f word several times ) before I could place the item in their hands. It wasn't until they realized it was not an item for sale or of any value did they bring it down a notch. I let the person know their reaction was uncalled for and unprofessional. They began to give a half tailed apology that they obviously didn't mean. I was over it, and out the door, I did say to my kid, " Let's leave before this person has a heart attack." they were almost having a panic attack to their own overreaction. Hi there--Non Binary Drag Queen here. I used to love Ermines and would come here on the regular, today I made the mistake of bringing my father and sister here. Upon walking in I said hello to the man standing stocking the shelves--then my sister followed me in and mistakenly misgendered him. He then said,"Sir", at which point my sister apologized quietly and tried to explain that she was sorry. That was followed by the man kicking my sister out. My sister is now distraught and our day has now been tainted by an asshole. I've been here often and the owner is always this same level of rude, but never to this level. I have never experienced that level of hostility, unkindness, and flat out anger from an owner. I understand it is hard to be misgendered often, but what the fuck? Like genuinely, I experienced such a lack of basic empathy or emotional intelligence from random people on the streets but for someone who runs a retail store--you would expect better. I have spent thousands of dollars here and I will never come back again. Spend your money at Blue Velvet, Prisma Vintage, or Uptown modern--they will appreciate your money. ^This is the only time I have ever left a negative review and the only time I have ever rated somewhere I frequent any less than 5 stars. read more

We were delighted to find so many vintage stores in one area! I was surprised at how many things I found that made me so nostalgic! SIL has been trying to find overalls for some time and who knew they were easily available right here at this store. Lots of bargains to find. It was a good enough first-time experience for me to stop lurking here on Yelp and actually review someplace, so yeah, five stars. I went into Ermine for my first time today wearing a favorite leather jacket, thinking I could get some hands-on expert advice on leather care, zipper repair, and also do a bit of browsing. EJ was super helpful and generous with his advice: I'll have to keep an eye out for a decent tailor that's somehow surviving the Zoom-and-sweatpants era and eventually pick up some mink oil. The parking situation in that whole strip is a bit annoying. It was busy enough that I felt lucky even getting a spot, but only after I pulled in did I see that each little shop in the building has its own partitioned/reserved spots, so I would have to back out again and park around the block someplace... or risk keeping my car in front of their neighbors, due to close just 30 minutes after I pulled in. I figured it'd be worth the risk if I kept my visit brief. Once inside, the available selection of men's clothing exceeded my expectations of what I thought I'd find in such a cozy shop, and everything seemed to be in great condition. This is not your mom's "mold and mothballs" thrift store experience. When I was browsing, EJ kept at a perfect "customer service distance", balancing privacy with convenience; I didn't have any trouble getting him to answer questions, open the jewelry case, or check me out. He mentioned that Ermine's dressing rooms are open now, but I didn't get to take advantage of that this time around. The prices were astonishingly reasonable for the location. I had to fight (and am still fighting) the urge to snap up a beautiful pair of Florsheim wing-tips in just my size. I *really* hadn't expected to buy jewelry at all--I held my breath when I turned over a very sparkly snail to look at its price and gave a sigh of relief when the tag revealed that the charming bauble was, in fact, something I could pick up on a whim as a thank-you gift for a friend, who'd otherwise have gotten yet another bottle of wine. I couldn't resist. I'll definitely be going back. Ermine seems to be a great spot for me to keep an eye out for a pair of decent cowboy boots in my size, priced such that I could actually afford them. Very limited plus sizes, but so it often is with real vintage items. Nice changing rooms. Some jewelry. Good selection of cowboy boots. Most things are priced at $20 or $30 which is pretty good. During our afternoon of vintage store shopping, we stopped in here for a quick glance. After my fellow shoppers were done shopping for themselves, they let me have my fun trying on interesting outfits. I almost forgot I was shopping with 2 dudes because they are more like girls. These guys get way too excited trying on clothes and seeing the vintage outfits I tried on. Gotta love them! The best part about their clothing selection is that they are organized in modern day sizes. Also, many actual wearable, everyday things that are priced very reasonable and in excellent condition. I had my fun trying on 60s and 70s dresses that had supposedly never been worn. My favorite dress I tried on made me feel like I had been transported back in time...in the time I SHOULD have been living in. Their selection may be smaller than the other vintage shops in the neighborhood, but they're unique offerings are better and very decently priced for the incredible condtion they are in. read more

Ermine is another nice little vintage clothing shop on the North Loop strip that offers some cool stuff. Now granted their layout is not as shopper friendly as some of the other shops in the area, but the smaller selection makes it a bit easier to sift through their items. I've bought quite a few items from here that I was very happy with, including a pair of awesome shoes from the 70's..pretty much new! Their prices are a bit on the high side, but you almost never find stuff that is ragged out or beat up and being passed off as "quality vintage" goods. Like most vintage shops, their selection leans more towards women's fashion but they do have some nice shirts and slacks/jeans for men and they all organized by size at least. Overall it's a cool place, takes a little more work to find what you want but still a neat spot to hunt for retro looks. I can dig it! read more

It's highly unusual that I write a review about my experience at any particular business in town, at any time. Ever. In fact, I had to create an account in order to write this review. That being said, I'm writing this in reference to not one- not two- but a plethora of experiences at Ermine Vintage, all of which were wonderful. First and foremost, I can't say enough positive things about the owner and her awesome husband. Not only is she a walking, talking encyclopedia of all things vintage fashion- she's friendly and easy going, too. So many of the vintage stores in town have staff who only seem to know how to treat the customers as if they're not good enough to shop there- not Elizabeth, though. Both her and her husband are always quick to welcome customers or say "thank you for stopping by". I just get great vibes all around in that store. She's got a pretty epic selection of vintage tees, and I am always shocked at how inexpensive they are. As is typical of vintage fashion, the men's selection is significantly smaller, but the quality of her offerings makes you want everything you see. The women's clothing, especially the dresses, is AMAZING. Lots of sizes, lots of wearable styles and reputable labels, from the 20's to the 90's. Always affordable. Mad respect to the owner for her ability to be so genuine in what has become such a source of pretentiousness elsswhere in Austin. read more

You're not going to believe this. I was walking around on North Loop, minding my business, thinking about how done I am with extraneous shopping because I have everything I need, and I really just need to focus on the things I already have, when all of a sudden this place called Ermine freaking grew arms, reached out, and yanked me into it's warm, wonderfully-populated thrifty belly. I have to catch my breath remembering the horror. So's I'm in there, right? And I figure, let me do the best I can do while I'm in this haven of terrifically-priced vintage apparel, wondering how they afford the rent with most dress tags right around $22. Maybe I got the belt I have been looking for all my life: a well-made, vertical shell cascade accentuating my waist ($14). Silver rope chain earrings, $16. A silver garnet and opal ring, $16. What do you do in this situation? I'm from Jersey; I had to defend myself. I tried on some dresses but they didn't quite work out, and then push came to shove and I did what was right in this battle of good vs tag-popping. The belt, the earrings, the ring: they are mine. Let me go, Ermine - I do what I want! And then (because no review is useful without some MacGuyvering) I had to get those silver earrings clean. I realize that I have a disproportionate amount of 5 star reviews but perhaps that is just because I am only moved to write by greatness. I usually have a lot of trouble at vintage stores, and I almost always leave them feeling depressed about myself. I am a busty size 12, and apparently in in the 60's I would have been a busty size 24 or something because I can almost never find clothes at vintage stores that fit. Not so at Ermine Vintage. This place is seriously Rad. The clothes are all grouped together according to MODERN DAY SIZES (yess!!!!) and there was quite a bit of good stuff in my size range. The quality of the clothes is not totally pristine but a missing button here or a slight stain there isn't much to worry about when getting really unique clothing because of THE PRICES!!!! they are so low. like really really low. I got the cutest 1970's polyester print dress there. A) It fit me. B) it made me look pretty C) it was easy to find D) it was $26, and in perfect condition. Awesome. Go to this store. Keep it open. I had a great experience with trading at Ermine today. I recently cleaned out my closet with a focus I didn't even know I had but since some of the pieces that didn't make the cut are still awesome, I decided to try and sell or trade. The owner picked out some great items, and took some important things into consideration, such as dry clean only which a lot of people don't want to deal with. Also the fact that some of them were a larger size made her really happy as larger sizes are difficult to find at vintage shops and she really tries to keep a stock for all sizes. I also really liked how matter of fact the price tags were. There was no descriptive adjectives, just exactly what it is. I found the whole place to be totally unpretentious which is a breath of fresh air in the industry! Will be back for sure! read more

Loved this place! Def the superior of the vintage shops on North Lp. All of the clothes & shoes are nicely organized by size. The dressing rooms are room-y and the lighting is adequate. I didn't see a bunch of crappy old sweatshirts or lame clothing. EV is definitely selective of their pieces. They had so many cool T-shirts! I only bought 1 awesome sleeveless tee. I would have bought a couple more, but I felt the pries were a bit high. I found an awesome Puma tshirt that was 40$! Eeek! This place is fantastic. There is a great selection of vintage and re-tooled items offered at very affordable prices. There is a wide variety of sizes and styles. Worth noting: the clothes are arranged by size, so there is no, "I wish I had 2 less ribs than I currently posess", or "I wish I was bigger" (and YES, I have tried on dresses worth eating for!) I have never left empty-handed, although that may speak more to my shopping 'situation' (It's not a problem, I can quit any time!) than the store's inventory. Almost everything in there is fashionable, which is a claim not many vintage stores can make. It's not crowded or cluttered, which can be dizzying in a small store. We (foolishly) did not immediately buy this epic men's mid-length 70's-era shearling coat for $100. Went home and five days later the coat was still on our minds. I called Ermine to inquire-- the coat was still on the rack. They went straight to the post office and shipped me the coat (no extra fee for shipping other than the USPS cost)! I love this store! It's my Dad and my official place to shop together in Austin when I visit the 'rents. He gets himself some of the vintage men's button-up shirts and I get whatever I want (within reason of course, thanks Dad!) :) :). They have a great selection of clothes, jewelry, shoes, and bags, all very reasonably priced. Maybe someday they'll sell Dad the "most comfortable chair in the world" that the owner sits in when he is there. We'll keep coming back until that happens ;) read more
