I've been going to this place long enough to write a fair review. First off, I will say this is my absolute favorite Thrift store in Austin. There are so many thrift stores out there that I've gone to but this one by far is one of the best as far as clothing selections go. I always walk out with $30-70 worth of clothes and with that money I get so much especially on discounted items. Not to mention their used clothes are so well priced it honestly makes the experience more enjoyable. Now here are the cons. Their new with tags items are WAY over priced, some near retail. I know those are supposed to be more expensive ideally they should at least be half off not near retail price which defeats the purpose of buying them thrifted. Another thing, it's way too hot and stuffy in there. I've gotten used to it but they don't have AC only fans which doesn't do much only if you're in front of it. Other than that the pros outweigh the cons. The employees are cool, and honestly I typically spend like 3-4 hours there at most. I always look forward to coming here. The only reason that I'm giving it one star is because I can't give it no stars. This place is overpriced and disorganized. They put staples in their clothes to attach the price tags. The worst part was how rude their customer service is. My 2.5 year old is deaf/hard of hearing and took off her hearing aid in the store. My husband put it in what he thought was our cart. When we realized he had misplaced her hearing aid, I went back inside to look for it. I asked one of the stockers to help and they ignored me. I then went to the front to ask for help and was told that I would need to look in the carts myself. I told the lady that my daughter needs the hearing aid to hear and they are very expensive but she blew me off again and told me to look myself. I then told her I had spent $60 in the store and that they were $12,000 and asked if she would please help me. She told me " not with that attitude I can't." She then forced me to take a breath and continued to berate me about my attitude after she had refused to help me. She finally did make an announcement and someone came forward with the hearing aid. I'll never go back to this store and would never recommend it to anyone. read more

Prices are going up across the thrift industry and that's hardly Thrift Lands fault but in addition to having high prices their tagging is borderline predatory... I waited to see a trinket box in a display case that had a clear 8$ label on it, only to discover it had three pieces all priced separately at 8$ including the lid!! This already had me annoyed but it was whatever until I walked the floor and found a lidded pot priced the same way! $19.99 on the pot and a separate $19.99 for the lid taped to it!! 20$ on the floor of a thrift store is already too high but 40$ is outrageous!! Especially if you price a lid at the same price as the pot!! Just price your items at what you want to sell them for and don't try to trick your customers!! Use one tag!! If that trinket dish had one label at $24, I might have bought it but instead all it did was put a bad taste in my mouth!! Thrift land has always been a little highly priced, on top of being inconvenient, as a cash only establishment but I had thought it mostly worth it before now. This thrift shop sits back from the road on Stasney with several other businesses in the strip center. As one of yelper has already pointed out, there's usually some derelict with his hand out at the front door. About 75% of the store is given over to clothing with everything else around the perimeter. The prices here seem pretty much in line with your average Goodwill, although some seem higher. They do have a lot of kids toys and furniture. This business is primarily geared towards clothing, and this is a cash operation only, but they do have an ATM, which will happily charge you a fee. It's worth a look around, and maybe the photos included will get you through the door. read more

Cash only. There is a massive assortment of clothing, but it's not organized by size. You will spend a lot of time digging to find the good deals. I went on Thursday and took advantage of college day 1/2 off. I got Levi's 711 jeans ($6), target wild fable shorts ($3), Nike tempo shorts ($3), LULULEMON SPORTS BRA ($2!!!!!!!!), lily Pulitzer dupe tank ($5) which totaled right at $20. Everything is good quality and some items had tags. The furniture and knickknacks were sparse. They had several items in their display cases such as video games, jewelry, fancy fur coats... As an avid thrifter, I will definitely go back. I recommend this spot for anyone who thrifts! read more

Review is for men's clothing only. Terrible selection and silly markups. They clearly get the majority of their clothes from a wholesaler, in New England from the looks of it. There are more "local" event t-shirts or school shirts from Massachusetts than Texas. Super fishy. More Celtics or Patriots branded clothing than Longhorns or Spurs, etc, you get the idea. When you find this in a thrift it means they're buying the dregs of other thrifts who couldn't sell the stuff in their region and work through middlemen to move it wholesale and sell it super cheap to thrifts like this. Most of the brands are third tier mall brands and very out of style and poorly made items. Old Navy, H&M etc. Bottom line, the clothing selection is garbage that is shipped in from out of state. Avoid, if you're looking for high quality thrifts and you want to find fashionable treasures. This isn't it. This is where thrift store surplus goes to die. read more

Pros - Most of the staff I interacted with were nice. There are a lot of clothes here (even if not your style.) An ATM is onsite. They have a lot of Christmas decor (if thats your thing) as well as figures / antiques. Pretty large store overall. Cons - Cash only (but they do have an ATM to use. There is a fee of $3.50 but most ATM's have fees.) Clothes are not sorted by size, but rather by color of item. No dressing rooms and when I asked a staff member if they did have dressing rooms, I was told " Would you rather have a cheap price or a dressing room?" But the prices here were more expensive than Goodwill & Salvation Army. When I took my purchases to the front, I was told I needed to get back in line because my items still had hangers and they needed to be removed and placed on a rack across the way before I could check out. When leaving I was asked for money by 2 different people standing right outside the door. I understand they cannot control who stands there and ask for money however, if it's directly out outside your door, I would assume you could ask them to move to avoid hassling your customers. read more

This place has become a weekend tradition for my sister and I. We spend a couple hours in here and while YES, it is cash only, and the store IS NOT organized by size - that makes it more of an experience and more exciting to see what the heck you'll find. I've walked out of this store almost every time I've visited with brand new, items that have just left the stores (dates on clothing tags is a thing, check them), unique vintage pieces you'll never find at a department store, "higher end" clothes I paid less than $15-20 for, and/or with an ENTIRE BAG filled with cute clothes from Old Navy, Gap, Merona, Express, American Eagle, J.Crew, BCBG, to name a few. for ~$40-50 tc. Maybe if people would stop whining, and think about the fact that you're not spending a fortune on clothes, it's the luck of the draw, every mans trash is another's treasure, you're recycling clothes (which, hello, good for the planet), and walk in with a little energy + positivity, you never know what you'll find. I liked the store when I came here four years ago when I was in town visiting. I bought two or three perfumes that I liked that were around 10 to $15 each which was a fair enough price for better quality colognes. I seem to remember I never bought any yarn in here because they package them up into large bags that cost more money and include too many colors and fibers that I couldn't use. I came in here today for the first time this trip and ended up not buying a single thing, which is probably all you need to know if you know me and what a thrift store addict I am. They had a gigantic bin full of yarn but every bag was $10-13 and there wasn't much in the categories that I usually buy. I shouldn't be buying a suitcase full of yarn in one bag when it doesn't even include a lot of colors or Yarns that I need. I did look through the clothing some but didn't see anything useful. Same with the knick knacks. I almost always find something to buy, but not today. Oh and those perfumes? Now they have them marked $22 -$45 each. I heard other customers complaining about the prices also. One guy said he used to come in this store couple times a week but that they had raised the prices so high he hardly ever came in anymore. I assume their stuff is donated so their cost of merchandise is 0. I understand they have rent and utilities and employees to pay but still think they are charging too much for the merchandise considering it is used. JMHO. read more

Spending the day exploring South Austin we decided to stop in. Glad we did. Staff is AWESOME. The store is not organized by color or size so plan on sending some time hunting. When you do find some clothing treasures they are proportionally priced. I found a new long summer skirt for $3.99. A great brand new black shirt from Target(orig. $29.99) for $9.99. I cleaned them out of Halloween light up pumpkins for $2.99 each and a set of 3 lanterns for candles for $1.99. This thrift shop is what a thrift store should be. Clean, organized, and cheap. Whenever I'm in a new area, I look for the nearest thrift stores. Today I looked up Thrift Land. The reviews were not great but I thought I'd see for myself. The website states that it's well lit and organized. No on both counts. Parts of the store have very poor lighting. The items are semi-sorted in different areas but just kinda dumped there on the shelves. The entire store appeared somewhat dirty and smelly. I found quite a few items that were WAY overpriced for the condition they were in. The same item they priced at $24.99 i saw online for $30. I did find a few items and as I headed to the checkout I saw the sign on the wall saying Wednesday is discount day for those 55+. Yay for me right?! Wrong. As the cashier rang me up I asked if she was including the senior discount. She advised that nothing I was purchasing (home decor) was included in the senior discount. That's on a separate day. I decided to purchase anyway but mentioned to her that the sign is very misleading. No where on it shows that it only applies to clothing and shoes. I will not shop there again mostly because of the location but I don't like the idea that the signage is not truthful. Wish I had taken a picture of the sign. read more

I love this location! They have a large amount of clothing and the prices are super fair! I tend to find super nice sweaters and jackets for $4-8 that would cost 2-3x at other thrift stores. Terrible store. Came in with a baby stroller and obviously a diaper bag. There's a gate at the door that only employees can open so we couldn't get in the store without them. And then they wanted to take the diaper bag. And everything that was said to me and my husband was so incredibly rude. When we went to check out the cashier said with an attitude that we needed to take the hangers off our items and put them in a rack at the beginning of the checkout line. And then wait at the exit again for them to let us out. Giving us attitude that we didn't open their gate on our own. On top of that half the stuff in the store was $80 plus for stuff that was stained or torn. Disgusting store. Will never come back. read more

The BEST Thrift store in the entire state of Texas! As an avid Goodwill, Salvation Army shopper and all around thrifter - I absolutely ADORE this store. This place only accepts cash because the prices are TO DIE FOR! If you're willing to look they have INCREDIBLE brands from Nike, Reebok, Puma, New Balance, Vince Camuto, Lucky Brand, LL Bean, High Sierra Hiking Brand, Hunter, Authentic Bomber jackets, Gap, Jessica McLintock, Princess Polly, BCBG Maxeria etc! I bought Vince Camuto boots for $4 and an LL Bean Hiking backpack for $4! I also bought a Boston Bruins Vintage Bombrr jacket for $12 and it's worth $300! I looked at their jewelry and also bought a Mantra Band Bracelet worth $30 for $1.99 "She believed she could, so she did!" And I DID! You cannot beat these prices! I am obsessed with this store. Always always bring cash money! The staff, associates and the atmosphere are great, informative and friendly! Also you will be given a pin if you want jewelry and can pick it up when you check out- you cannot carry it around the store as you shop to prevent people from stealing. I almost never even go to Goodwill anymore because their prices are about the same as Walmart or Ross, doesn't make sense to buy used clothes when you can get something new for the same price. It pains me to write a review of this thrift store - perhaps the best in Austin next to the Blue Hanger - mainly because scrubs that need to scan Yelp reviews to find good thrifting don't deserve a gimme like this. Thriftland is amazing. I have scored true vintage finds and office-appropriate labels like J. Crew, Banana Republic, Gap and Ann Taylor Loft here - including some items with store tags on, unworn. The kitchen items here are also choice - as noted by banners noting the slew of awards given by the Austin Chronicle. Books, shoes and electronics are here. I've gotten my husband a bunch of shirts from here as well. Not every day has half-price tickets - Sunday does, as does Thursday. I think Wednesday has discounts for seniors only, so if you don't pass for 60, you won't get any discount (I did try). Staff here is also pretty nice. Not necessarily warm and friendly the way Austinites like it, but with repeated visits, you may get some acknowledgment from them. There are no dressing rooms - just a few mirrors peppered around the store which people huddle in front of as they try things on. I don't feel that I or any other seasoned shopper should have to spell this out but...thrifting is only good if one looks hard at what's there, and if you don't see anything good? Go back next week. Take a chance. It may be worth it. This Sunday I went and dropped $40. I took home with me: 3 shirts for my husband (all half-price) a silk scarf w a kabuki mask pattern pale blue cardigan from LL Bean amethyst cardigan from Ann Taylor royal blue cardigan made in Italy - designer not known to me white denim mini lime green denim pencil skirt FLAVINE/neon yellow tennis skirt black J. Crew dress shirt that's 11 pieces of good quality that I can use in everyday life (ahem - maybe not the three skirts which are on trend if you think colorblocking is cool). For $40!! Thrift land is great! It is a pretty large thrift store compared to others I have been in. I have found that they are well organized and pretty clean. Over the past 6 months I have been frequenting many thrift stores looking for tea cups for my wedding. Thrift Land definitely had a good selection and I cleaned them out. They seem to have a variety of all kinds of things well. FYI - they are cash only. There is an ATM inside the store, but you will pay a fee. There is also a Wells Fargo ATM in the parking lot. So I recommend if you plan on doing some shopping bring some cash because you will likely find a good deal! I have also made a couple of donations here. You have to drive around to the back of the building where the loading dock is. There is usually someone sitting outside or going through stuff. Don't forget to ask for your receipt for you donation so you can write it off on your taxes too! read more

Supposedly, it's cash only & there are no dressing rooms so they can offer lower prices. While I did get good deals-- I personally think they are limiting their sales by having such options. Another thing I didn't like is that someone went through and bundled everything into bags-- to get the item I wanted I had to buy everything else that was shoved into its bag. I wanted an Austin, TX pint glass... but it came with 5 others, one "over the hill you made it to 60", one for the Boston Celtics.... no thanks, I don't need all these. I went into this store a little bit last minute maybe 20 minutes before closing and I was greeted rudely with a "10 minutes so hurry up" so I went and got 2 things immediately over the intercom they go "you you guys have 10 minutes if you don't come up here within those 10 minutes we will not check you out " I am mediately ran up there and then I asked them to see the jewelry really quick and she said no it's closed and I went well you guys said y'all had 10 more minutes and she looked at The other lady making a face (parentheses obviously making a joke of me) so I immediately left. This used to be my favorite place to go "thrift" shopping! I always found unique stuff, cool jackets, boots etc... that are used and donated....but cheaper than goodwill! Now this place has jumped on the bandwagon and is raising its prices by 10 fold. I can sometimes pay 40, 50, even 60 bucks for used cool shit... but 250 for a used coat that is fucking ridiculous!!! Can someone please explain to me why thrift stores think that we shop by color alone and pay no attention to cut and most importantly size and fit? My first adventure started by not knowing how to enter the store. There's a HUGE (nearly 6 feet wide) automatic door with a large sticker with the word "ENTER" printed on it. After stepping, several times, in front of the door and it not opening, we looked left and right trying to figure out how to get into the store. Finally, we figured out that you have to enter through the exit door. Then, you have to dodge a barrage of exiting customers as well as petting zoo coral to enter into the store. "Oh, that's how you do it, that makes sense." Don't be overwhelmed by the size of this place. You would think that on the sheer volume of merchandise that you'll find something worthy. Good luck! The clothing is organized as such: 1. Gender (Men's, Women's) 2. Age (Boys, Girls) 3. Style (Pants, Tops, Coats, etc.) 4. Color 5. A complete mix of sizes with no set organization Once you locate the section of clothing you're looking for, now comes the daunting task of searching through everything trying to find the style you like and hopefully you'll find the size you need. They do have a great selection but it will take you forever to go through it. What happens when you do find something that you actually like? Want to try it on? Think again. They DO NOT have a dressing room. When my friend asked if they had a dressing room, they suggested that she try the clothes on over her existing clothes. When my friend presented the clerk with a befuddled look, the clerk suggested she put on a long, flowing skirt first. Really? You want me to shimmy my skin jeans off under a Prairie skirt in the middle of the men's department? Granted their prices are fairly reasonable if you do find something you want. Speaking of which, it better be something you really want, they don't have a return policy. So, you can't try it on (in a normal manner) in the store and you can't return it if it doesn't fit. After all that, you think the checkout process would be easy, right? Now why would they do that? We were greeted with a decent size line when we called it quits. Be advised, they ONLY take cash. There is a lovely ATM available for your use with a large fee. While the cashier was extremely friendly, she was so stressed out trying to end our transaction that she missed my hand giving my change while looking the other way to bark for the next customer. Review background: Went here because of many folks saying this is "the" place to go. Specific needs: 2 boys to "fill in the gaps" for their week at camp; for me, not much fits anymore, got a trip coming, and don't necessarily want to replace my entire wardrobe (denial?!? Lol). Visit: Wednesday 7/17 at 3:30pm. This place was PACKED with shoppers! Overhead announcements were in English & Spanish. Packed with racks upon racks (very narrow aisles) - a bit challenging at times, but restockers and other customers were polite/accommodating. Many employees: many restocking, many cashiers: If you see an apparent long line, don't fret! It won't be a long wait. Our cashier was pleasant & friendly. Color-coded items, yes. No size delineations. No dressing rooms (big problem for me since I didn't know what size I am now/what would fit or not), but items from $0.99-$1.99 enticed me to buy them "in case they do." Didn't see restrooms (don't know if available). Cash ONLY (ATM on-site, $2.95 fee). Our cost here was $34. I haven't figured out yet what fits or doesn't, but the prices were so low I didn't say no (for me) - but my boys got essentials they were satisfied with. Dear Thriftland, You have so many hidden treasures. They are a little hard to find, which makes hunting for them even more exciting. You are a bare bones thrift store, you are cash only (atm in building), you have no dressing rooms and you organization is very basic. You are not for the light thrifter, and you take a little more work than some of your neighbors. Seeing you is a bit of a time investment that is usually worth it. Your prices are really reasonable, and I respect that. I only wish you organized by size instead of color. One day, at Thriftland, I found a pair of 1970s South American, tan leather boots for $12. To go with the boots, I found an Eddie Bauer green plaid, wool skirt for $6. What happens when I put them together? A kick-ass, unique ensemble for $18. Usually, thrift stores drive me nuts because I don't have the patience to sift through their racks. But Thriftland conveniently divides everything by color. Looking for a red shirt? You'll find it in the red shirt section. It's that easy. Definitely the best thrift store south of Ben White. It's huge and everything is very organized, which makes it easy to get in and out if you're in that kind of mood. It's pretty cheap, and every now and then you can find something really cool here. Take some advice from me, though...do your shopping off season. This is one of the few thrift stores in town where I can actually find decent all-year clothing. What do I mean by that? They don't rotate seasonal stock like most other stores. You can find the warmest coat in the middle of a 100 degree day in July, and that's fantastic. Since I do costume design year round, this has become my favorite store for seasonal gear. For instance, I purchased 3 really nice trenchcoats for 1950s journalists for under $25 total. TOTAL. TTOOOOOTAAAALLLL!!! Okay, I'll stop being insane, but still- you get what I'm saying? I've also found a few good plus size items here- and I'm not talking oversized t-shirts with kittens on them, but friggen hot yow-zah style dresses and super cute coats. I think this store shines in clothing. The housewares area (around the perimeter of the store) is somewhat lacking, but I don't go here for the housewares. Also, they only accept the Man in Black here. You know? Cash? However, if their in-store ATM isn't working, they'll hold your items for one hour in case you want go get some cash from a nearby ATM. Also, there are no dressing rooms, but they say that is to keep prices low- so I'll run with it. Bring a tape measure or something if you're unsure. It is totally worth it. read more
