It's hard rating a thrift store because what you find depends entirely on what's donated on any given day. You might find treasures and you might walk away empty-handed. While I didn't see anything I needed to bring home with me, there's a reasonable selection of clothes, household goods, small appliances, kid's toys, etc; all the usual suspects. It's fairly clean and relatively well organized, clearly tagged, and decently priced. I certainly feel better supporting them than Goodwill. read more

The location is so convenient to my local neighborhood and a great place for vintage clothing, yet I'm so over dog fatigue. We do not need to have to watch our feet to not step over a dog puddle/or worse. I understand certified ADA service digs, but will never accept emotional support/entitlement. No one wants to shop with a basket that previously had a dog/cat beforehand. It is gross to have to wipe down or deal with pet hair (many of us are allergic). I'm a dog owner and I would not bring my pet among strangers-they can easily get sick too. Not too many people care if they have a cold/or worse and it is stressful to be preoccupied to keep human to pet safe distance. I may start shopping, but if I have to weave in or around someone's dog/cat() then I just leave. Its not worth the stressful shopping. I lose my thrifting buzz having to watch my steps from pets. Many of us are frustrated with this entitlement of inconsiderate pet owners. read more

I've been to this thrift shop quite a number of times so I thought it was time to leave a review. The store itself has undergone a welcome remodel, making it a much more organized retail space. They always have a nice selection of pictures, a good offering of furnishings and a large jewelry counter, but not much in the way of electronics. They also have books, picture frames, glassware, shoes, music media, and appliances. They do have a color tag system designed to save you money. Directly attached to the thrift store is a salad bar and grill restaurant in case you're hungry. They always have many new items going to the shelves then so it's worth stopping in fairly often. read more

Love this little thrift store, right next to 2n1 Salad Bar & Grill 901 W Braker Ln, Austin, TX 78758 They have furtniture, decor, clothes and more! I was able to snag a long sleeve shirt for $1 and a Tokidoki keychain for $1.50. They have a wide selection of jewerly too! This place was really cool, I can't wait to come back! This has been my favorite thrift store in Austin since it was located in SoCo years ago. Oh man, it used to be CHEAP in prices. What golden years those were. Things have changed. They used to have a fabulous section for books, but then the inevitable happened as it has everywhere: people who make a living buying and reselling came with apps on their mobile phones to find every book that could be resold for more, and the choices of books was no longer like a wonderful treasure hunt. It also used to be a GREAT place to buy dishes and other kitchenware as stupendously low and wonderful prices. I enjoyed that so much that I would buy things, use them a while, then donate them back to the store and get new used choices. Oh, what fun that was -- and one of the few things I could afford to do "just for fun" as a single mom without aid from anyone including the government and working long hours. I used to live just blocks away and would walk there nearly every day. The people that worked there were so nice (and still are, though most old-timers are no longer to be seen there). The saddest thing is when I see so many things there marked up to within 50 cents or a dollar of what they would cost retail. That NEVER used to happen. Even so, one can find occasional fantastic deals there and it is still a fun place to look around at worst. Now its prices are more in like with that awful Goodwill that is much closer to me. This is not thrifting. Even at 50% off, this Indiana glass bowl isn't worth $29.50. And to charge more for a bowl that was mass produced and recently selling for less when new is greedy. Employees are in the store pricing items for more than what they see them going for online by flippers. The thing is, people are posting online but few of them are actually getting what they're selling for, so VSP is pricing people out. A lot of people go thrifting to decorate, but at these prices we may as well go to Williams Sonoma and buy new things. read more

One of the few thrift stores that made me feel uneasy truly because they use religion as there base to operate the way they do. All items are donated . They claim they want to help people and families , but if you enter You'll start to see the prices are marked extremely high on some items even if damaged . They have tags for discounts , but honestly who wants broken furniture or to spend $200 dollars on silver bracelets or fake Mardi Gras beads better yet badly damaged clothes ... I made it a experiment after helping two older women working the counter my first week there . I helped them find a stamp on a piece of real platinum ring to be exact , but guess what the ring never made it to the floor lol 4 days go by , and every time I asked a different older woman would tell me a new story , so I said ok ... imma watch . Week 2 I'm watching them gold test, Diamond test , and magnify every item and put them off to the side and again the items don't make it to the floor And after finding a 18k gold chain for 5.95 and seeing the old women get upset and literally tell me it was a mistake made me realize that part of the store is a taking advantage and needs a lot of work . Has potential ;but deff need to make up its mind in what they are .. Resale store , vintage antique . Or a goodwill Thrift stores should have thrift store prices. And people who actually want to be there to volunteer. Not to pocket or mark up items 5x the worth for profit off people who are in need already . I've had a few run ins with this place. I tried really hard to give it a chance. The number of Karen's that work here are just ridiculous. When I asked how much an unmarked table was a lady replied "oh this is mid century it's going to be very expensive." So I just walked away a little turned off. I only wanted to know how much it would cost so I could buy it. I also don't really appreciate a lot of the pricing. 5.99 for a mug? I'm sure others have had better luck here but I seldom buy anything and have felt way too frustrated when leaving.. read more

If Forrest Gump had set foot in here, he would have said, "Life is like a St. Vincent de Paul store. You never know what you're going to get". I was a little awed by this place. It's quite large and crammed full of stuff. The main area is dedicated to clothes, shoes, bags and soft furnishings, with a prominent vintage/boutique section. The upper level contains everything else, like books, kitchen ware and furniture. In fact, they have the most furniture I've ever seen in any re-sale store. They hardly have room for it all; much of it sits in the back and outside on one side of the parking lot, waiting to go on the floor. There are definitely some hidden treasures here. As I left the store, clutching my purchases, I practically cackled with glee. My treasured finds that day were: * one Manhasset music stand. Although cobwebby and straight from storage, this one was in great condition, with its signature heavy gauge, all-steel welded base firmly intact. Only $13 for one of most durable stands ever made. * one dressy Sigrid Olsen blouse for $4 * one gorgeous pure white linen summer shirt with embroidered details, perfect for a Texas summer, for $4.50 What a fabulous thrift store. There is a private lot which it awesome considering its South Congress. We didn't have a chance to check out the furniture section even though there was a large area. It was organized and wasn't all scrunched together. I scored the red cousin of the sexy little black dress. It was ten bucks. Oh yeah. There was a huge section of Halloween costumes and accessories. I wasn't there for dress up so I got nothing on that. Next time I go and have more time, I will be checking out the housewares. I will be in the market for a vintage tablecloth soon. Probably some place mats as well. I don't think I will have a problem finding something I will love since the selection was ginormous. They were having a 50% off sale on pretty much everything. While we were here, The Better Half found a couple of collectible silver figurines and some silver jewelry. It's a decent size and they have some pieces of art. Let me start out saying I spend a lot of time in thrift stores and this was pretty exciting when I first walked in. I had heard they had moved the store up north and figured I'd stop in and check it out. Interesting layout and displays but nearly half of the store is marked not for sale. I get they we're going for a boutique feel but it's not really that kind of place. Most of the prices are fair or a little above average but nothing insanely overpriced. Unfortunately most of the interesting stuff is hung up high on the walls and not for purchase, which baffles me at a resale store. Isn't the entire point to sell the donated goods for charity? I'd rather buy interesting pieces rather than have a "styled" store. The employees can't be bothered to help or even say hello and I just got an overall meh vibe once I had walked the place fully. You know those reviews I wrote way back when of Steve & Barry's, and how I bragged about the jeans I bought there for $9? Well, Kimberly K finally told me that they weren't as great as I thought they were. Me: Really? KK: Really. They make your butt look baggy. Your butt isn't baggy. Me: They do? KK: Yes. Let's go shopping. How about St. Vincent de Paul? Me: OK. But it is really hard for me to find jeans at thrift stores. I have to have a pretty low rise, and jeans in thrift stores are always high rise. KK: We'll see. So that is how I found myself swimming in a sea of clothes at St. Vincent de Paul rather than swimming in the waters of Deep Eddy, which was our original plan. No sooner had we breached the threshold when KK sprang into Personal Shopper mode, holding up jeans left and right. Within minutes, we had a pile of jeans sufficient to clothe a small village. Me: I think I'd better start trying these on, or we won't be able to carry them all. KK: Go! So I tried on jeans. And more jeans. And more jeans. And I'll be damned if I didn't find three great pairs of low-rise jeans and a pair of dressy black shorts from Express in short order. Me: Are these too tight? KK: NO! They look HOTT! You have to get them! Three pairs of jeans + the shorts = $29. Sweet guy ringing up my purchases: These are Diesel jeans! My old girlfriend once bought me a brand new pair of Diesel jeans. They were like $400. I felt pretty special. Me: Is she still around? SG: Nah. But it was fun at the time. Would you like a roll with that? Me: I'm sorry? SG: I mean...would you like a BAG with that? Me: Oh. No, I don't think I need one, but thanks. Afterwards, we ate pizza and discussed my purchases. KK: You are going to LOVE those jeans! Those are your new skinny jeans! Me: I can't believe they had so many pairs of low rise jeans. That was amazing! And today, as I was rocking one of my new pairs of jeans, I looked in the mirror and realized that they DO make my butt look better. WOW! So yesterday, Kimberly K. and I decided to set out for some shopping on South Congress in preparation for Wednesday night's 'Madness" and St. Vincent's was our first stop. I was able to pull in to the gated lot and park. Nice. Walked in and immediately saw the coats. About 2 seconds later, I was smitten...by a coat. Red suede vintage coat, $29.50. Stick a fork in me and call me done. Now that's my kind of shopping. Oops, but that was too easy and waaaay too fast. So how about a cute little purse for your big night on the town? $4 sound ok? How about $2, because they're HALF PRICE! Check out the shoes....black suede "boot" shoes. I've been wanting a pair of those. Slipped those babies on and I felt like Cinderella....you would, too once you realized they might not have ever been worn, they're Stuart Weitzman, they fit and they were only SIX BUCKS!!!! We decided to leave on a high note. Everything else would pale after that. But I'll be back! And if they can give a repeat performance that rivals this...they'll soooo be getting that fifth star! read more

My BFF and I walked up to the thrift store to attempt to go shopping and the lady outside sorting named Linda Sinclair told us they closed at 4. However, 2 people walked in before us and 3 after us, who were all white and she said nothing to them. When asked why she didn't tell them they were closed, she said she didn't see them?!?!! One reason I love to go shopping on South Congress is that it makes for great eye candy, and I never buy anything. I can just look at all the stuff all afternoon and dream about having enough money to spend on it and go home maybe having spent $3 on some coffee for a day's worth of entertainment. St. Vincent de Paul is like a reversal of all that -- it's not fun to look around and I want to get out as soon as possible, but I could afford to buy most things. Unfortunately, as it's such a downer compared with its neighbors, I've never bought anything here. It's not a bad store, but it has never had that one thing I want, when I want it. Give it a try, but don't expect to be wowed. Thrift prices are slightly higher than some joints with less valuable real estate, but hardly outrageous. read more

I f'loved this place. I'm just about the most experienced thrift-er in the country, and when I say it's good - it's damned good. This place is GOOD. I found a vintage 'disco' dress that rocked my world for $10. A truly adorable shift dress for five bucks. A vintage gap shirt [when they actually sewed them carefully] for $3. And I walked sadly away from a yellow Tano bag for $26 [my rule: Never spend over $20 for anything at a thrift store.] But I did buy the Nordies yellow leather wallet for a mere .75 in perfect condition. I went to a bunch of 'vintage' stores on the North Loop and found nothing. This place was the s**t. Did I mention how sweet and helpful everyone is? I have came in here quite a few times. I am always hopeful to find something in their clothes and that maybe just maybe I will find something in the half off color tags but I never do. The clothes for women are eh. I never find anything I like in my size for a reasonable price. I figure that I might as well go to somewhere else and find this cheaper for a knockoff of vintage or just go to Goodwill. Upstairs you are may find something for your home or a cool gift. Vinyls are mainly duds. Things are little messy but hey it is doable and you can see everything. I just figure that all the tourists came by here and looted everything already. Majority of the consignment shops in walking distance or wayyyyy more over priced than this one. I guess it's hard to find a treasure when everyone else is trying to find a treasure too... Dunno, but I wouldn't exactly recommend this a bargain gold mine. However, they have some furniture and cool stuff at the drop off area by the parking lot that is VERY reasonably priced. Not the best thrift store in Austin but still great. This place is right in the touristy area of South Congress so it gets a lot of traffic. The building is organized upstairs (furniture, music/books/toys, ect) and downstairs (clothing, ie: purses and shoes). Like all thrift stores it is hit or miss. The day I went recently I scored a brand new baby gate for my dog and some 70s cut-glass glasses all for $7. If you are really wanting vintage type clothes there are lots of other places in Austin you will score better finds at. But if you like to just come and experience a typical thrift store, never knowing what you will find, check out this place. read more

I admit that I'm not your usual thrift store junkie - I have absolutely no desire to spend hours shifting through rack after rack in order to find that one $0.99 couture blouse. I like to walk into a store with an item in mind, look on a rack, and leave with said item(s) within 20 minutes, TOPS. I guess it goes without saying that I hate shopping - but I'm also pretty danged poor and looking good is really danged important to me. I'm also definitely into buying second-hand for a variety of reasons (but please - does anyone actually BUY used underwear? Or bathing suits? Or sexy sleepware? YIKES.) St. Vinny's delivers for me on all these points. Their front-of-store boutique section is PERFECT for me, because in 5 minutes I'll know without a doubt that my size 6 Lucky jeans are either there or not there. And if they're there, I can have them out the door for $15 in under 10. To me, that's a quality shopping experience. They also have a great collection of blouses and tops in designer brands, in the $4-$10 range. I realize that this is technically expensive for second-hand, but when I compare it to what I would have paid for it new, it's a STEAL. If you're picky about a designer fit, don't mind paying 10 - 15% of what you would pay for the item brand new, and are between a women's size 0-8, I can't recommend any thrift store in town over St. Vinny's. read more

I went in on a mission. Find interesting glass jars and cream-colored doilies. Wait. Before your mind starts wandering down the path of ancient tea parties, I'll disclose that I'm shopping for wedding centerpieces. I found a neat jar with about eight sides to mix up my growing collection of mason jars. I also scored some doilies. Sweet! On my way out I happened across the crafty section with googobs of fabric and wire-rimmed ribbon. I also noticed a HUGE selection of costume-style women's dresses, perfect for the halloween costume shopper. I just happened to come upon this store during their 75% off sale.. a friend got a complete decent looking suit for $17, while another got a suit jacket and a sean john shirt for $20. I managed to grab shirt and some nice dishware for under $5! It was an amazing deal.. the asian in me was pleased.. =) Also upstairs, they have the most random things like adult diapers, coax cable, saws, old vhs and tape players, cassette tapes, and vinyl records. read more
