Uptown Cheapskate is a love/hate relationship I feel like. I love the pieces I can find at this location at a fraction of the price, but when it comes to you selling to them the pricing can feel like you're being ripped off lol. So I'll instead focus on my buying experience. This shop is well organized by size and style of clothing which makes it easy to find what you need. There are a few changing rooms (wish the mirrors were higher quality) so you can see what fits you best. They have promotions time to time based on colors so make sure ot ask about that. I found a high end tommy knitted sweater for like $14 when I personally knew it retailed for $250+ so I made sure to play it cool lol. All in all, come here to buy but don't have high expectations when you attempt to sell. read more

Fantastic secondhand clothing spot in Austin! We stopped in on the hunt for a good thrift spot and we found it with this store. Everyone in our group found an item they loved. The store was well organized, well stocked, the staff were friendly and they had some great items. It could get a little pricey but if you're careful with your selections there's ways to keep the cost down. There's parking around the store but it does get full so be aware. I've been to a lot of secondhand clothing stores, but Uptown Cheapskate seriously stands out. I'm obsessed--this place is super clean and so well-organized. It's such a relief to browse racks where the sizes actually match the labels--like, oh my gosh, what a dream! Everything is even color-coordinated, which makes shopping more fun and easy. You can tell they have a solid team working there because the store looks amazing. The staff were friendly, helpful, and on top of things--letting me know about specials and checking in while I shopped. I left with a few skirts and a pair of pants, and I'm already planning to go back in a few days for more. Thank you to Ebony for being so positive and helpful. And thanks to Mallory for assisting me with the fitting rooms and clothes. Both were super nice and made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. There's a 15% off discount during your birthday month, which is such a great perk! They have fitting rooms in the back, secondhand shoes, and some cute new accessories like jewelry, hair clips, and sunglasses. I also spotted a great selection of workout clothes. It's mostly women's apparel from what I could tell, but I wasn't really checking the men's section. Honestly, this is one of the best secondhand clothing stores I've ever been to. I feel like this is the best organized Uptown Cheapskate I've ever been in. I've checked out several in the Austin area as well as San Antonio, but this one is particularly spacious, orderly, and bright. Staff is nice enough, I've never needed help, nor have I tried to resell at this location, so I can't comment on those aspects. It's a cute little thrift shop like so many others. You really don't know what you're going to find. Most of the price points are affordable, every now and again I'll see a piece that's more than I would personally pay for it, but things don't tend to stay there long so it probably worked out for someone else. If you're in the area check this location out, you might stumble on something your closet has been missing. read more

Today, I went shopping at this business... I was told erroneously by someone called Mike, that I could not make use of the credit I had accumulated by selling my clothes at their North Store.. I then drove to such a store and was told that they what they had told me was not true. So I called them and after speaking to their manager, and while waiting online, I heard one of their employees say "the call is for you and she speaks with a Spanish accent". I believe that their refusal to honor the credit I had was racially motivated. Needless to say, I will never shop there again. read more

I went to a couple Uptown Cheapskates in Austin and this was by far the best location. The store was very organized and they had a really good selection. There were so many items that were still new with tags that were a steal compared to the retail price. I did feel like the items at this location was priced higher than the other Uptown Cheapskate I went to in Cedar Park, but I still managed to find some really awesome pieces! The staff was also super friendly and was constantly putting more clothes out on the racks too. read more

We visited this location yesterday and O M G...the customer service alone won me over!! Not only do they have an amazing selection of items..it's so organized and easy to identify items that are on sale. One employee seen me with an arm full of clothes and asked if he could hold them for me...much appreciated. Even when we went to try our clothes on another employee allowed me and my daughter to go to the same fitting room and it was huge!! Thank you so much for this it's makes our shopping process easier that way I can check her clothes while also trying on mine and we don't have to go separately. Lastly when we checked out the employees AGAIN were so friendly and just happy people in general. I will definitely be adding this location into my rotation. A great Thrift store. Good quality selection and the prices are good. You get what you pay for. Lots of name brands and new clothes. They also have nice vintage clothes. The selection is much better than some of the other thrift stores I've been to in Austin. The employees were nice and helpful. I brought my mother on my second haul and she love it too. I've sold to this store about 4 or 5 times now. At first, it felt okay -- I was mostly bringing in fast fashion pieces, so getting $5 for a brand new pair of American Eagle jeans didn't bother me much. But on my most recent visit, I brought in only higher-end items: brands like Anthropologie, Free People, and several brand new Johnny Was tops with the tags still attached. The associate seemed thrilled to let me know they bought 22 pieces from me -- and then handed me $100 total. It's been several months, and I'm still frustrated. Mostly with myself, for not just taking my clothes back and finding a better way to sell or donate them. What's even more disappointing is the way my items were handled. I carefully washed, ironed, and folded every piece I brought in. And like most times before, I saw my clothes being sorted on the floor behind the counter, only to be tossed carelessly back into my bags. That really stuck with me. If you're a seller bringing in higher-end or thoughtfully prepared items, be aware -- the pricing doesn't reflect the true value, and the handling lacks respect. The buyers often seem undertrained and unaware of the brands they're evaluating. I might shop here occasionally, but I won't be selling to them again. read more

I attempted to sell a large amount of sweat pant material shorts, they said it would be a wait but didn't specify how long. Two hours later they call me as I'm still waiting in the store to let me know they only accept Jean shorts. Note that the fabric of the shorts I brought was visible in the bag I brought it in. It is absolutely ridiculous to have someone wait two hours and deny everything they brought. I am so unbelievably frustrated with this location. The people at the counter were also very rude, any time I walked by to look at something in the general area of the counter I received many side eyes and rude looks. Do not come here to sell your clothes. Additionally as I was walking through the store I noticed how overpriced so many of the items they sell have become. I used to come here years ago in highschool for clothes and could afford anything I wanted, now not so much. If I could give this store negative 5 stars I would! EDIT IN RESPONSE TO OWNER: The lady who I spoke with on the phone said denim shorts, which I thought was odd as I had walked thru the store and found similar shorts as the ones I was selling. The other woman at the counter referred to the shorts as SHEIN quality. The shorts were from Amazon. I understand that "fast fashion" is a difficult thing to sell but if the fabric/items are clearly visible before the bag is fully open it should be disclosed to the person selling that you will be unable to take it. It's extremely frustrating to wait 2 hours and be denied when it could've been avoided by a quick glance at the top of the open bag as I handed it over the counter. If you are not a size six they will reject your clothes for resale and flat out tell you they don't want your size. If you complain about it, the person answering email will make it your problem and defend the staff. The staff is terrible and fat phobic. Stay away larger women, they won't treat you equally. Uptown lives up to its name in the sense that they have a fairly large selection of nice resale clothing. They're fairly particular about what they stock, so expect nicer brands in good condition. The prices aren't exactly cheap, but they're significantly less than what you'd pay at the mall, for sure. It's tough to get a steal on resale clothing in Austin, and this place is really no exception, despite the name. On the flip side, when you're selling off some of your own items, be prepared to be offered a smaller amount than you'd expect. They need to be in great shape and desirable as well, so don't bother bringing in stuff you probably should have donated elsewhere. Store credit will get you more value, and the fact that they insist that you wait on site (at least in the shopping center) while they look over your items (count on at least an hour and a half) almost guarantees that you'll shop around and find something you want. They stock a wide variety of clothing and accessories for men and women, and I see both shopping there when I've been in store. If you enjoy a scavenger hunt for "new" clothes, head on over and check them out. Parking is available in the attached lot. read more

On a nice weekday when the weather is good, why not go thrifting?! This thrift store had such a variety of styles, from vintage, to modern, and from classy to sporty. It's approaching fall season, so I was able to get a few over sized flannels, that I was in search for, and got them for such great prices! My Ralph Lauren polo shirt was $13 bucks! Can't beat that! My friend bought 6 name brand shirts for over $40. On top of the great prices, the staff were all super sweet! They asked us how long we lived in Austin, and gave us great tips on different places to try. Love this place so much! The clothing that they resell is always in great condition. It never looks worn out like some other resale shops. Identic, I'm here to sell my clothing as well, and they always take a good amount. I enjoy that they're always up to trend and they have some very nice elections when it comes to designer. This place is a total SCAM. Went there over the weekend to sell some items. I had everything nicely folded and sorted by type (athletics, business, jeans, winter clothing, etc.) placed into multiple heavy duty shopping bags. Was told when I arrived there was a 4 hour wait. I dropped off my items and came back. When I came back, they told me "go put the rest of your items in your car" and we will pay you for the ones we purchased. I sold 5 pieces of clothing to them that were in absolutely impeccable condition. It cost me an upwards of $400 for the items I sold them and they gave me $19 total. They wouldn't let me reevaluate what they "bought" they already put it in a bin with everyone else's sold clothing and were quick to cash me out and acted too busy to even look me in the face. If I could do it all over again, I would have either given to a friend or donated to a local shelter. Not worth my time, frustration or the cost in gas. They have shady business practices and the purchasing team is condescending as heck. Great place to buy from (because they do purchase quality clothing for something like $3-$4/item) -- but absolutely horrible place to sell clothing to. Needless to say, I will never sell to them again. It's so insulting. read more

After posting a bad but valid review, I got a call from the manager who seemed confused by my review despite our heated conversation a year ago. He claimed he didn't remember banning me from the store. But I asked him to listen to the conversation (most businesses, record conversations for quality assurance) and after talking a bit, he did agree that the situation wasn't handled correctly and was very sympathetic and apologetic about the bad experience I had there. He was very sincere and didn't seem to be calling to ask me to take the review down, he was more concerned with how he could fix the issue and I do believe he was very genuine and apologetic for the situation. We both came to the conclusion that we're both human and make mistakes, and have bad days. the fact that he called so quickly to resolve my issue proved to me that although I did have ONE bad experience selling to them I am very excited to go back and the manager made sure I felt welcome coming back in to shop or sell. Previous to this experience I used to go here ALL THE TIME. And though I may not return anytime soon because of the embarrassment of the whole ordeal I don't think it's a bad store or run by bad people. In fact, it's one of the best places to buy trendy second-hand clothing, shoes and bags. This is an amazing place. The clothing is in excellent , ready to wear condition. and the selection ranges from something that would be practical like work boots to things that are unusual and fun -- like something I would wear to a party. I was there last Sunday and wound up with a huge bagful of different kinds of coats and jackets and blazers and only spent $38! The service was exceptional from the person that checked me in to the person that checked me out. I wanted to try on shoes and I was able to immediately find an employee who showed me a chair and mirror. And when my arms were full to the brim with items I was going to purchase, a lady shows up by my side. She asks if she can take my things and put them on hold for when I get up to the register!
