The Fat Spoon on Hwy 190 in Covington
    Mike H.

The Fat Spoon, conveniently located on Highway 190, is a staple in Covington, although today was our first visit. We enjoyed excellent service in neat surroundings with an abundance of small town charm. Lots of great traditional breakfast selections are on the menu, with an especially good selection of omelets. Coffee is good and prices are competitive. The Fat Spoon Cafe is recommended!

Great food-service and prices! Ladies were very happy and quick and thorough. Almost missed it when driving- but whipped in and was pleasantly surprised!

Great breakfast place. Plenty of good and friendly wait staff! The coffee and tea was delicious as well. Would definitely try again if we are back in town!

My wife and I were on a road trip going back home and we searched for a breakfast place. We were tired of fast food so we found this place and really enjoyed our time here. We started off with some beignets fries, which were fantastic. I ordered the spoon slam and really enjoyed all of my food, the highlights were the biscuit and the waffle, absolutely delicious. This place reminded me of our local diner at home and it felt good eating here. 10/10 would recommend!

Passing thru and found this place for breakfast. We got 2 of the Spoon Slams and Two eggs with meat. This was more than enough for our family of 5 (3 kids). Service was great. Polite and even got the kids food out first so we could get them settled. Food was good, came out fast. The beignet fries are a must. Oh and the biscuits are so good.

Boy has this place gone downhill are used to eat here quite a bit and it was pretty good today the service was horrible I didn't even bring my ham with my breakfast had to take that to go when I sat down I did get a cup of coffee but nobody asked me if I wanted to order any food finally she came to get that and the eggs were partially raw and the grits were cold the biscuit had obviously been sitting there for a while so until they get this straight I'm not going back good luck if you go there on your own

Vegetarian omelet w potatoes This omelet looks small in pic but it was probably a 6 egg omelet!

I'll admit, we ended up here by chance. Pleasantly surprised, the waitstaff is super sweet. I was expecting a bland diner- I was so wrong. Iced coffees, best burgers, hungry man breakfasts - yummmmm My daughter said it's the best burger yet, and we have eaten lots! Easy going atmosphere - I don't care for stuffy places. Would def recommend - it's right beside Popeye's

The food is decent but the service could be a lot better in many areas. For those with food…read moreallergies, please triple check before ordering in or eating your food. We arrived on a Friday night without reservations and waited about 30-40 minutes for a table. First, we got a drink by the bar and stood around. Then when seats opened up at the bar, we sat there and ordered two appetizers. Before ordering, I asked one of the bartenders if something was gluten free and she came back with a sheet of paper labeled GLUTEN listing about 25-30 things that were gluten free such as dressings, jambalaya, and egg rolls (which we found out later they are NOT gluten free). I have a picture but I won't share it so that no one is deceived. A few minutes after ordering, we were buzzed that we had moved up the waiting list and to check in. My husband checked in and came to tell me to go to the hostess stand because they are ready to seat us. He went to let the bartender know to send our two appetizers to our table. When I got to the hostess stand, the hostess said that we already had been seated and to just walk upstairs. Even after I explained we had not gotten seated yet because my husband had just checked in, she instructed my party to simply head upstairs and just turn right. We walked upstairs and found a table we assumed we should sit ate. Then when my husband arrived, he went to look for menus because we didn't have any. Ava came by to greet us as our two appetizers of Sauteed Crab Claws and Boudin Egg Rolls arrived. Ava was really friendly and personable. I was so happy the sheet had indicated they are gluten free. I ate half an egg roll and started to suspect it was not gluten free. I flagged down Ava and asked and she said she was pretty sure they were not gluten free. Ava came back to apologize that the egg rolls had been changed and were no longer gluten free, and then are gave me an updated "2026 Gluten-Free Allergy Menu" with a subheader "All items listed are SAFE for you to eat." The egg rolls were no longer listed. For my entree, I ordered the Charbroiled Catfish served over spinach. It came with a salad and apparently a side. I thought my spinach was the side so I didn't ask about my side options and Ava didn't ask me what I wanted as a side. I had a side mixed green salad with no croutons. Surprisingly, everyone's side mixed green salad looked different when they arrived. Mine had croutons. Another had cheese on their mixed greens while another person was served iceberg lettuce. It was very strange. My catfish arrived with French Fries which are not gluten free. I flagged down another waitress who had checked in on us earlier to explain that I wasn't offered a side and that I couldn't eat the French Fries. I asked for cooked veggies and she brought me cauliflower. I thoroughly enjoyed my catfish and cauliflower. Others are the table had the Seafood Lasagna, Seafood Pasta, Charbroiled Oysters, and Crawfish Etouffee. Everyone liked their dishes. The portions are really big. The meal would've been much better if they were better trained on how to handle food allergies. And what the hostess did was not customer friendly at all. We learned from the second server that Ava was in training. Ava did a good job as she was really friendly, attentive, and seemed to genuinely care. I don't think she understood what a gluten allergy was but she followed up when asked to check on the egg rolls.

Everything was delicious, as usual, and the service is always top-notch. Lots of great beer on tap, super-friendly folks waiting to help you with food or a drink, and a super-cool location that really takes advantage of the natural surroundings. Even if you're not hungry, you should come get a beer and walk down to the little river; Louisiana can be magical with the right attitude.

We tried three different options, and everyone agreed they were among the best burgers they've ever had. Not to forget to mention the nachos to start! Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The tater tots were a standout side--crispy, flavorful, and a great complement to the meal. On top of the food, the service (Bryce, I think) was quick and genuinely friendly, and the atmosphere felt clean, cozy, and welcoming. They also have a well-stocked bar and a stage for live music, which gives the place a fun, social vibe. It's easy to see this becoming a go-to spot for after-work hangouts or meeting up with friends. Overall, Whiskey Tavern is a must-visit if you're looking for great burgers, solid service, and a fun atmosphere.

For the main course, I had the Memphis Burger, which came topped with blue cheese. It was solid and cooked well, and the fries served in the little fry baskets were a nice touch that added to the presentation. We also tried the pizza, which was pretty good and cheesy--not amazing, but definitely satisfying. The ambiance stood out: it's more of a bar than a restaurant, with a large bar area, cool décor, and two VIP sections on each side of the stage. The booths were a nice addition and made the space feel more comfortable. Overall, I'd give the food a B, but the service and atmosphere both get an A. A great spot if you're looking for a fun night out with good bar food, drinks, and live entertainment vibes.

I certainly appreciate them making it work. Crazy Pig has an excellent menu for breakfast with lots of different options We went on a Sunday morning I got one of the omelettes I think mine was the lean omelette Everything comes with bread and or biscuit I can't eat bread or biscuit so our waiter offered me avocado and tomatoes, which were a perfect choice to go with my omelette Most restaurant places that I've been to usually just remove the item without offering a substitution I was so happy with the alternate options I spoke with the owner to let her know that I appreciate having the tomato and the avocado instead of the bread and the biscuit. Then she told me that they just had a class on food allergies This is really exceptional that a restaurant is taking up their own initiative to learn about food allergies so that they can service their customers with better care While the food is definitely excellent with the capacity to offer different options for the different dietary needs that people have and the staff is educated, I just wish that they had better coffee at the Mandeville location like a cappuccino or a café latte Still an excellent choice
