We were in the Covington area and looking for a casual lunch place so decided to check out Fat Spoon Cafe. We started with the waffle fries and then got the cobb salad, the slider with fries and grilled cheese with tomato soup. the waffle fries were very good and the cobb salad was also good and a large portion. the tomato soup was good but the grilled cheese was average; the fries with the sliders were very good while the sliders were decent. overall a nice casual place for lunch. flavors were decent and portion size was good read more

Best Eggs Sardis EVER! Their spinach cream sauce was incredible and they put it in a casserole dish with the poached eggs on top of artichoke bottoms, which was very unique and I'm now obsessed with it. First of all the food is very good, however, I ordered a roast beef poboy and what I got was a french dip. The menu says drenched in brown gravy. No gravy at all, just au jus. It was good, just not a poboy. The waitress was so sweet and effiecient. The place was nice and clean, but PLEASE put some felt on the bottom of the chair legs. The Food was great but when I got my bill and paid with a debit card the fat spoon charged me a 3.5% fee for paying with a debit card. The fat spoon is not charged any fee on debit card transactions. I asked the manager why I was being charged a fee and she said that just the way it is unless I pay in cash and if I want to complain call the owner. I'm not calling the owner but I'm also not going back to the Fat Spoon unless they change their debit card policy. read more

I didn't eat it and the waitress didn't ask if there was something wrong. I should have made a fuss but I'm southern and polite - paid and left a note on the check. My wife and I were on a road trip going back home and we searched for a breakfast place. We were tired of fast food so we found this place and really enjoyed our time here. We started off with some beignets fries, which were fantastic. I ordered the spoon slam and really enjoyed all of my food, the highlights were the biscuit and the waffle, absolutely delicious. Passing thru and found this place for breakfast. We got 2 of the Spoon Slams and Two eggs with meat. This was more than enough for our family of 5 (3 kids). Service was great. Walked in and got seated for breakfast. Waitress seemed new, she was not prepared for a few questions about the menu. The food came out quick and was good, that earned the three stars. The restaurant is an old Pizza Hut building, and still has that feel about it. No refills of our drinks offered by wait staff before or after the bill was delivered to the table. Hostess was pleasant, waitress was apologetic because she took so long getting to us for ordering. Ok, it was busy. Give her that. Bloody Marys didnt have the advertised bacon etc. ordered a second and she had to reuse our glass!! Thats disgusting. No shrimp and grits, out of grits, Eggs Sardou didnt have artichoke bottoms. Eggs Nola had a greasy fried RED Tomato. Should have been hreen tomato. Couldnt get grits for side. Breakfast place, Out of Grits!! Really?? Barbant potatoes were very small Portion and cold. Roast beef was definitely prerefrigerated and cold, cut have been warmed. Asked for waters to go around. Waitress delivered 2 glasses for four people, were they out of water glasses also? This is nice little spot that has three locations on the Northshore that offers all day breakfast items along with lunch and daily specials. They have a decent crawfish etouffee, alright seafood gumbo, po boys, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. The staff is friendly and generally provides good service. They are also usually flexible and will sometimes be able to accommodate you with items that are not listed on the menu or specials board such as doing the crawfish etoufee as an entree instead of just smothering over something. This is a decent spot for a good and usually relatively quick meal if you are on the Northshore and see one of their locations. read more

After ordering our waitress was on the way to key it in, but got called over by two other waitresses sitting at the waitress bar yaking away. They had a five minute conversation will we sat watching. After standing up to get her attention another waitress asked if there was something wrong. After asking if our order was put in our waitress then made back to her station and was asked by second waitress if she had entered in our order. Our waitress then lied and said yes as she stood there entering our order. Second waitress saw me watching and called out "is there a problem". Shooting the crap with other employees is more important than putting in a customers order. I know it was just five minutes but it's the principle of it. What a gem!! It's been existing there in the old Pizza Hut building next to Popeyes on 190. I had been inside previously when it was a different short-lived business and it was dreary and unimpressive. I was craving breakfast on a Sunday morning and the usual options were packed.. the reviews said Fat Spoon was worth trying and there were a few precious parking spots available, so we grabbed one and got inside. It's a small space but Fat Spoon managed to open up the inside and brighten it. There were servers everywhere flitting from table to table with big smiles. It was actually cheery in there. Once we'd sat and ordered there wasn't a moment I didn't feel takin care of. There was our main server but others would occasionally pass by and stop to make sure everything was too our liking and ask if we could use anything else. It was never overwhelming for those who prefer to dine privately. I'm one of you. The food was fantastic. We don't often do a sit-down breakfast and my husband is pretty adamantly against basic breakfast food in general. He's been converted by Fat Spoon and the creativity in their breakfast options. The photos will speak for themselves but I want to give a special shoutout to the very thick toast slices that came to the table already buttered, and to the breakfast potatoes that made me a believer due to actual seasoning. read more

After searching the area on a Sunday afternoon, looking for brunch, we were thrilled to find this well run establishment. It was bustling with activity, but yet easily seated without standing in line. We had checked out one of the other high rated establishments in downtown Covington, and it was standing room outside. at this location, the ordering and drinks all went quick and efficiently. It takes a long time to get your food. The food arrived warm not hot. I had the Fat Spoon breakfast sandwich. The description was 2 eggs, and a meat of your choice covered with cheese on Texas toast. It had a sprinkle of cheese on the toast, the eggs were leathery, but the bacon was good and crispy. My husband had the 2 eggs, grits, sausage with a biscuit. The eggs were cooked to his satisfaction but the sausage and biscuit were mediocre, served barely warm. Our server was nice, but didn't not ask how the food was, I guess she knew the answer. Went there for brunch yesterday. My friends had told me it was a good breakfast spot. The Belgian waffle my mom had looked great and she enjoyed it. Have gone here three times, twice for lunch and this morning for brrakfast to go. This waa the location on Hwy 21, Covington. Never again. Service is amazingly slow at the table (smostly the kitchen but out front as well), but it's far faster than To Go. Why? Okay, lunch was the catfush plate. The catfish was thick and undercooked both times. Breakfast was Eggs NOLA. Okay, I made it a little complicated, asking that it be split into two boxes with grits and the ham in one box and hash brownd and no ham in the other. While I waited without wifi, another customer came in, ordered, was served, ate and finished his meal befire my food was delivered. Another who came in and ordered after the first snd his foid was delivered while I waited. Finally, 33 minutrs after I walked I was given my bill and fuve munutes later my food was delivered. I've gotten a meal faster at Arnaud's in the French Quarter! When I asked about the length of time it took, I was told that the kitchen cooks eat-in diners before to-go orders. WHAT??!!?? TO-GO orders are second class customers?!? I asked to speak with the manager - absent. Kitchen manager? Busy, no I couldn't wait a few minutes.
