Lee's Diner turned out to be a hidden jewel! They seem to have a very busy take out as well. As we walked in the door we were greeted and seated quickly. Definitely looks like a vintage diner. Booths along one wall, metal tables, checkered theme throughout. The floors were clean, the booth was clean as well. My only ick was the glass doors and windows could use some cleaning throughout on a regular daily basis and it would sparkle like a diamond! A very nice young man gave us menus and promptly got us drinks. We ordered a small onion ring for an appetizer and it did not disappoint. Medium sliced onions, lightly breaded and piping hot. For our meal hubby got a side salad with thousand island, an open face roast beef and gravy sandwich and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. I got the Gene Autry which is a chicken fried steak dinner. Served with mashed potatoes with cream gravy and a side salad. It took a little bit for the food to come out, but that's because they cook to order. Everything was piping hot. Large portions, we both had leftovers to bring home. Known for their hand scooped and soft serve ice cream and desserts. For our dessert we ordered a Hershey's chocolate ice cream cone. Hand scooped, delicious! Price wise, it cost us $50 including 20% tip. I did read some negative reviews but did not find any of these things on our visit. Will definitely come back! read more

On our way back to Houston from Destin, we stopped with our 2 grandchildren & newly-purchased hermit crab, Hedwig. Brad was our server and did a fantastic job! He was prompt, attentive, & personable. First of all, the place itself is cute! It's extremely crowded at all times so be warned. The floors are disgusting and sticky! The tables were sticky and stained, there were bugs and the seats were grimy. The service was some of the worst I've ever had. The waitress huffed and puffed about doing her job when asked to grab a forgotten cup of ranch and utensils. She ignored us 80% of the time and we saw her just wondering while the place was packed. The food itself was extremely mid. The burger was soggy, fries were not the kind pictured in the menu and the grilled cheese tasted like plastic. I'm so frustrated with my last experience here I may never come back. I've been eating here since 2009. I've probably had Lee's a 100 times. I recently placed an order for pickup. After waiting 45 minutes, I asked about the status of my order. It turns out, my order was sitting ready for 30 minutes. Instead of apologizing and asking how they could make this right, they only offered excuses with a heavy side of attitude. "The ticket wasn't in the right spot." "We were in the middle of a shift change." "What would you like us to do about it?" Mind you, for the 25 minutes I was standing there waiting for my order to be ready, all I saw was servers standing around talking. After speaking with a manager, the only offer she had was to remake my food. Great! Now I get to wait for another 30 minutes while they remake my order. I haven't experienced such terrible service in a long long time. Lee's is an institution. My review won't hurt their business even for a second. I just hope upper management sees this and trains their servers better. read more

Last night was the second time we ordered take out from Lees and they got the order wrong. When I called to let the manager know all she said was that they have new people working there now. She said if I wanted to bring the food back I could do that. I said I was not going to drive all the way back there . I said I felt that to be unreasonable and asked what else she was going to do. She replied that she was sorry but there was nothing else she could do. Now I don't know about what other people think but I don't think that is how customers should be treated. This was the second time this occurred and we are regular customers. It will be a long time before we return (if at all) to Lees Drive Inn. They need to learn how to treat the customers in order to avoid reviews like this. read more

I've been here many times. Tonight - was on pointe! Service - 100 - table service, speed, refills, plates, needs, all met. Food - A+ - Fresh, hot/warm. Catfish grilled perfectly. Veggies fresh and steamed. Brownie sundae - Oh yes it was great! Burger - amazing. Onion rings - great. Kids chicken - just fine. It really hit the spot this time. One critique - sweep the floor under the table to get food from previous customers before next party sits. Under tables were mostly swept, just get in those hard to reach spots. Clean nooks and crannys of the window sills. Other than that, I can confidently award 5 stars for this particular visit. However, overall will be 4 stars due to floor maintenance. The worst food I've ever paid for. Burgers are Sahara desert dry and flavorless. The only condiment they offer is mayo. They will tell you they'll put packets of ketchup and mustard in the styrofoam tray but then they'll forget to do it. I got exactly 5 onion rings in my order but they tasted ok. It's an old Burger Chef building. Lots of stainless steel, black, white and pink tiles mid fifties style furniture. We had a short wait for a table. Parking lot was full!! The staff is friendly like a hound pup. All smiles. The place is clean, really sparkly clean. A good sized menu full of comfort food. I haven't been here in years... was feeling nostalgic today and stopped by for a patty melt. Love the ambiance of the place!

This place has been here 60 years, and there's a good reason for that: it's the best there is. I didn't know I was staying in Hammond until this afternoon and narrowed down my restaurants to two choices not near my hotel. I decided to try this one first, driving into downtown. First off, downtown is beautiful and Hammond is now by far my favorite city in LA. The neighborhoods are all well kept and not run down, unlike so many other places. Second off, you have this beautiful restaurant right among them. I chose to eat in. You could also walk up and place an order to take back home with you or eat in your car. There were some of each. Inside, I was greeted with a drink request before I even sat down! Then my actual waitress (Kylah) took my full order. And, well, you can see what arrived. The gumbo came with the sandwich - I should have asked for it as an appetizer. Never mind, that bowl is huge and the soup is delicious. Perfectly salted, full of meat, nice balance of rice, plus the garlic bread side. Meanwhile, the sandwich. My goodness gracious. I ordered shrimp and it was drowning in breaded shrimp. A couple of them actually fell off the plate as the waitress set them down. I jokingly asked her to bring back two fresh ones to replace them and that ACTUALLY HAPPENED! Again, my goodness. The sandwich was a nice balance of flavors, tons of fried shrimp, just... I'm not a shrimp person but this is exactly what I wanted. So I went for dessert. Time passed. Crickets chirped. My beard grew. After about 20 minutes, the bread pudding arrived. Clearly freshly sliced and freshly prepared/baked, nothing from a can here. The bread was PERFECTLY done - crispy in a few parts but mostly soft. Just the right amount of sauce. And the flavor was perfect. And my goodness, what a nice size for the price! That... that's Lee's. Like the 1960s diners in my home state, it's full of well-prepared and reasonably priced fare. It's full of friendly and gracious staff. It's beautifully kept inside and out. Guys, if you're visiting LA once in your life, make this place on your bucket list. If you live around here, make this place at least a monthly mandatory stop, if not weekly. Or heck, daily, I won't steer you away from that! read more

I went there on Saturday night around 8 o'clock. I was with a group of three other girls were super hungry Two of them split cheese fries. Then Me and another the girl got a burger. Super good. The waitress was really nice and answered all of our questions and then after we all split the banana split.
