Beautiful historic place! The bar was great for before dinner drinks and great conversation with the manager who was also the bartender. It was a little odd, we were the only customers in the restaurant the entire time we were there! Yes, it was Easter weekend, but it just felt odd at 7:00 on a Saturday night and we were the only ones there. Any way...we get seated at our table and ordered crab cakes for an appetizer. For the price, we were expecting more than one tiny crab cake. It was just ok. We were served bread with their signature flavored butter which was good. For dinner I ordered the filet cooked medium and my husband ordered the trout special. My steak was decent, slightly undercooked for my liking, but good flavor. My husband's trout was the smallest piece of fish I've ever seen on someone's plate at a restaurant. He enjoyed it but was still hungry after his meal. We opted not to get dessert since we were the only customers in the restaurant we felt like the staff were waiting for us to leave. That may not have been the case but that's how we felt. Maybe we picked a bad time to try this restaurant so we will give them another try. I would say this a great place for a special occasion if you're looking for ambience. Our recent New Years Eve visit fell short of the standards this restaurant once upheld. We had our wedding here 7 years ago and had an amazing time. Although we specifically requested a table downstairs, we were instead seated upstairs in what appeared to be an attic-like space off in the corner. The area was poorly arranged, and above our table a hanging light bulb shone directly into our eyes creating an uncomfortable environment. We left this table and went to express our concerns to the hostess. There were plenty of open tables downstairs but she said they were reserved for 7pm when our reservation was for 6pm. My wife said we will just sit at the bar if we have to. We were then placed at a table in a hidden spot beside the fireplace. I say hidden because the lady refilling water forgot about us several times. In addition, portion sizes are small while prices are quite expensive resulting in a disappointing imbalance between cost and value. Dinner for two was $240 not including tip. $62 for a 6oz filet then up charge when asked for more bread!!!! The one redeeming aspect of the experience was our server, Devin, who provided excellent service--professional, attentive, and genuinely courteous. His efforts stood out in an otherwise unsatisfactory visit. He was assigned upstairs but took care of us at this downstairs table. read more

This place is a Waffel House cosplaying as fine dinning. What should have been a beautiful family dinner to celebrate Christmas Eve was a long slow fart of failures. It started with a nearly 30 minute wait for our first round of cocktails. Then, over an hour for appetizers that came out in drips and drabs. When the main courses arrived two were raw! "I'm so sorry for the wait tonight - we were very busy." No. You weren't busy, you were under prepared. You had reservations so you knew what to expect. If your bartenders are slow because they're chit chatting with customers seated at the bar, you should have a service bartender dedicated to making drinks for the dinning room. If the kitchen is out of goat cheese, you should communicate that to the guest instead of bringing them an item without a key ingredient. Servers should NEVER touch a guests silverware to "make room" for plates or drinks Also "I've only worked here for 3 months so I don't know" is something I should never hear from wait staff. It wreaks of incompetence and poor training. Jacmel has been a sinking ship for years. You've been squeaking by on nostalgia and inertia but last nights disastrous Christmas Eve service was the final straw for my family. read more

Jacmel is a great dining experience any time I have been on a non holiday. And because of that, my husband made reservations for Valentines 2026. When we were sat down, we were placed at a table for two in a very narrow "hallway" and forgotten about for the first 25 minutes of getting drink order. After we ordered, it took even longer to get a soup. When the soup (tomato basil) came out, it was in a very small cup. We enjoyed the soup for taste, but for the long wait, the temp of the soup was barely warm. Second course we ordered the Alfredo. That took long as well. Came out on saucer size plates, mine was dry and tasteless and room temp, my husbands plate a a few more noddles and reasonable amount of sauce. Both plates had enough noodles for 4 bites of food. Then I had the pork Ragu with a polenta cake. Again, pork barely warmed and polenta room temp. Pork had fatty pieces in it and the flavor was rich. I ate a few bites before I couldn't eat anymore pork due to the flavor and fat. The polenta had a delicious crust, but middle was bland and unappealing. Therefore, I did not get to eat. My husband ordered the filet and he enjoyed his. I ate his mashed potatoes which was delicious. As well as we shared his asparagus. Then I was excited about dessert because I love bread pudding. We had to leave so we asked for that to go. Very disappointed when they brought it out. Two bites each. NEVER again will we choose Jacmel for our romantic dinner plans. Still our favorite restaurant in Hammond. Beautiful inside and out, with excellent service, music and lighting at the right level, and top flight food and drink. On this occasion we had the grilled oyster and andouille appetizers and the drum and ribeye entrees, and they were delicious, as were the Salty Duck and Brown Butter Old Fashioned cocktails. I had made reservations for my anniversary. I've never been here before with living here my whole life! I've been missing out. When we arrived the table was decorated for our anniversary and champagne. The server was excellent at describing everything and helping us pick items. I went last Saturday for my birthday. I had heard that Paul had sold it and it was good now. The first thing I was told was the menu that is online is old and not applicable. I don't like submitting a bad review, but this fail was so large, it can't pass. The menu was small and I usually find something I like, but there was not one thing on there I wanted to eat. They have also eliminated the comp salad or soup you used to get. I didn't want to spend $60 on a filet, so I ordered some kind of stuffed shell thing. My friend got soup and salad. We waited 1 hour and 26 minutes for our food. I looked around and everyone else in the room was without food. When it finally came, I could tell it had spend a long time under some kind of heat lamp because it was dried out. It could only be described as Chef Boy-Ar-Dee. I don't know what was going on in that kitchen, but there was a major problem and I'm sorry I won't be going back because I had eaten there since it opened and it was always hit or miss, but it's got the best atmosphere in town. It got a country inn feel that can't be found anywhere else. I feel like going to Michebelle and begging Michel to please consider cooking again. read more

This was our first visit yo Jacmel Inn, it came highly recommended by a friend. The building is real quaint on tbe outside, its definitely a hidden gem in Hammond. The inside of the restaurant was really cozy with fireplaces lit. We were pleasantly greeted by the hostess and seated after a short wait. There was a nice crowd there. We were seated in a little corner on the 2nd floor right nect to a little fireplace. The server was really friendly and very attentive. She made us feel really comfortable and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restroom has one stall, but it was clean. The food was delicious. They give you warm bead while you waut. We had the crab cake for appetizer and then the mushroom soup. The crab cake was really good, different with the sauce and black eyed peas and lima beans. The mushroom soup was surprisingly tasty. I have already reviewed this restaurant from 2 year ago and it appears that somehow the name of the business has been changed. The entire experience was awful and the menu was very limited. The food portions were small and unsavory. The service was lacking . They were rude and lazy. We had to ask for refills on wine and tea and water. They had us cut our own birthday cake. The parking lot had no light so we couldn't see. My aunt fell and tore her jacket and cut her arm. No one came to her aid. We were shocked over how we were treated and for the amount of money that we were spending it was terrible. We haven't returned and won't. I have told many people about this in hopes that Jacmel will remember that serving the public is a privilege and not something to take for granted. There are far more better restaurants in the area and I plan to never waste my time and money at Jacmel. read more

All agreed the steak was chewy with lots of gristle. It felt like they served the steak sliced to hide the fact that it was a very poor quality cut of meat. Very disappointing!! Salmon overcooked, all steaks not to correct temperature, bread was eliminated from table service, drink refills were by reques, no fresh ice, menu modifications were not even considered even simple ones, minimal prebussing, no deserts or after dinner beverages offered. My boyfriend and I came to Jacmel in Inn with reservations for our 2 year anniversary and we were so impressed! All the reviews talk about how romantic the atmosphere is and it definitely was! Parking was a little tight. It seemed like it was in someone's back yard, but we found a spot and walked in and was seated right away. The lights were dim & they had us placed in a quiet corner. Our server came by and went over the menu with us. We ordered the crab cake for an appetizer and it was to die for!!! It was packed with crab meat and the sauce was so tasty, I do wish you would get 2 for the price, but that is the experience. For entrees, I got the 6oz filet topped with crab meat and it was divine!!! So flavorful and the lump crab made it even better. I got double carrots because I didn't want any potatoes. My salad that came out before was so good too! Boyfriend got the soup of the day, which was some bean soup and it was very good! Different and sweet tasting but very good! For his entree he got the 16oz ribeye and he kept his sides. The twice baked potato was actually very fresh and not what I was expecting! We finished off with some crème brûlée, which was new to both us. It was good, but probably would order something different etc time. The waitress came ask if we wanted to box our food, we said yes and she took our plates and boxed it all up for us!! It has been a while since we tried Jacmel, as we were underwhelmed with our prior visit (probably a year ago for Sunday brunch). But we have been hearing good things and decided to go for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised. We thoroughly enjoyed the grilled beets and the cheese board appetizers. (We couldn't decide on just one, so we chose to go with two apps and one entree.) We shared the grouper entry (specialty menu item), which was accompanied by mashed parsnips and a mushroom sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly. The entire entry was delicious. We finished our dining experience with the bread pudding for dessert. The pudding lacked flavor, but the sauce was tasty. The setting was perfect for an intimate dinner and the service was excellent. At no point were we looking for our waitress or server. They were right there, asking if all was good and if we needed anything. Our water glasses were never empty. If you like to enjoy a cocktail with your meal, you will not be disappointed. I must say, the chocolate martini is perfect! If you prefer a glass of wine, the options are limited. One of my FAVORITE restaurants! Mapquest it because its a hidden gem. First to mention,the atmosphere is hard to duplicate. Hand welded light fixtures adorn the walls setting the antique ambience. Old fireplaces in each intimate dining room with wall to wall windows overlooking a thick forrest of bamboo. They recently renovated the back yard and it makes me want to plan a party asap. If the weathers right ask to sit on the patio. Second,The food! When the food is served all you will hear are moans of food esctasy. I have never eaten anything that was below 5 stars and im stingy with a 5 star rating. Fresh churned butter with hot bread is served right away. Scallops are the biggest i have ever seen. Menu changes with the seasons but scallops seem to be a staple. High quality ingredients with careful thought in each dish. read more

I ordered an oyster appetizer which I have to say was exquisite. I could have eaten 10 of them. However, my dinner, I had to send back. It had so so so much salt. Overall, sadly, I wouldn't go back for the food. I tried my husbands entree and was unimpressed. Even though the oysters were fantastic, I felt like my overall experience was more negative than positive. I have to say though, I still wish I could have more of those oysters. read more

Unfortunately, our Mother's Day dinner was extremely disappointing. Parts of the meal were nice. Our drinks were good (minus the termite in my water) and our appetizers were cooked well. It went downhill from there. Three of us ordered the filet, all medium. The filets were three very different sizes and were cooked to different temperatures. Portions were small. When dessert came out the crème brûlée was chunky and the "milk" with my daughter's milk and cookies was sour. That dish was sent back. We never received an apology. They tried to tell us it wasn't sour but instead was chunky and tasted funny because it had ice cream in it. Not true. I know what sour milk smells and tastes like. Glad I found this place. You could easily miss it. Feels like driving to a friend's house for dinner. There's a rich history behind the house and the name. Ask any of the friendly staff for the details. Starting with French onion soup. While tasty I thought it was rushed. The gruyere cheese on top was barely melted. Needs to be left under the broiler to get bubbly and crisp. There's also a hint of exotic spice such as curry or cumin in there. In the end I devoured it, though. Also tried the pork belly served with a smear if house made BBQ sauce and mango/pineapple salsa. Unimaginably good. Also tried the turtle soup. Rich with flavor and a staple in this area of the country. Entree of diver scallops with bacon crust, mushrooms, truffled risotto. Perfectly seared scallops and creamy risotto. Lots of flavor in every bite. Minor complaint is the bacon overpowers any hint of truffle. Earlier in the week I had the nightly special amberjack with Dijon/pistachio crust. Excellent. The Jacmel Inn is clearly an institution in the town of Hammond. On any given night this place could be hosting a charity event, fundraiser, or political gathering. They no doubt retain such affluent clientele because they've earned the respect of the community through consistent attention to detail and excellent customer service. It was one of my favorite places to go when my wife and I used to live in Hammond years ago when I went to school at Southeastern La. University. Food was great.
