Roast beef po-boy and gravy fries
    John L. H.

Gus's is a casual dining restaurant in downtown Folsom. On a recent trip to a nursery outside of Folsom, we stopped in at Gus's for lunch. As we walked in I was reminded of so many small town restaurants I have been to over the years. The menu was posted on the wall above the register. Once we ordered, we sat down and our server came and asked what we ordered. This was a nice touch since most times you order at a counter you get a number for your table. Even though we were far from New Orleans I was craving a roast beef po-boy, so I ordered that with some gravy fries. The po-boy was pretty good. The roast beef seemed homemade and the bread was correct. The gravy fries were just ordinary. The cheese used was sliced american which detracted from the dish. Service was very prompt and friendly. Everyone we encountered seemed genuinely happy. Next time I am in Folsom, I will be sure to stop in.

Old Boys table, Saturday morning at Gus's
    Carlton G.

I came into Gus's after a quick drive up and down Main Street revealed this was the only open option at 7am on Saturday. After looking over the menu I opted for the spinach feta omelet, subbing tomatoes for the diced sausage bacon or ham. After only 5-10 minute wait, the waitress/cashier brought my plate along with a *side* of tomatoes, apologizing that they weren't IN the omelet. I said I'd take it like that, reluctantly. Well, the grits were fine, but the omelet was not. Actually tasted fishy (?), and the spinach was not fresh, and tasted like it never was! I tried two bites and pushed it away. That isn't like me. The coffee was good though. Good enough. And the glass of water smelled of dish soap, so I didn't drink that either. :-( Whenever I come into a place like this, I have high hopes that I'll be stumbling on a hidden gem. Of course, can't expect a winner every time. After today's visit, I wouldnt expect it here. Sad to say, but hopefully just an off morning! Good aspects include plenty of seating, including several larger tables for groups, waitress was nice enough, and small town retirees lend an authentic din. And the coffee was passable. ‍

They now take credit cards. Order the pot roast, tender and delicious, the bacon cheese burger is my other favorite.

Love the newly updated eating areas and checkout. No cards so bring your cash but breakfast is quick, tasty and won't kill the wallet.

The crawfish etouffée and catfish were delicious! Large portions for the price. I'd eat lunch here again.

I've heard a lot about this place in my Louisiana hometown for years. During every Mardi Gras…read moreseason, they became popular for their homemade king cakes. Also, they serve up breakfast and lunch. I actually ate one of their breakfast plates last year when I was here for Christmas and enjoyed it. During my recent visit for the week, I decided to order from them. Let's see how the visits turned out. For takeout orders, you can call since they don't have a website. No major issue there. And your order will be ready in less than 10 minutes. Definitely not bad. Also, you have the option to do drive-thru service or walk-in. Inside, they have tables, flatscreen TV's and have a desert selection at the counter. For all my selections, I ordered a breakfast plate which consisted of grits, protein (sausage patties for me), scrambled eggs and biscuit or toast. All for $10. Homecooked and really good. And a welcoming staff when you enter the building or drive-thru. Can't beat that. I am so thankful this place is in my hometown. Local spots are where you can get a homecooked meal compared to home. This will be a go-to for yours truly the next time I come into town. Till next time :)

Went in on a Sunday morning to get some pancakes and hopefully other breakfast items like breakfast…read moresausages and bacon. Got there and was instantly let down cuz on Sundays, all you can get is some donuts (which were pretty good glazed donuts) or eat off the buffet bar. My wife got her some stuff off the buffet and I just settled on donuts. 50/50 chance of us returning.
