The onion rings, fried mushrooms, and crab cakes were good and enjoyable. The cheese fries were average. I was a little underwhelmed by the shrimp po'boy, as the bread was a bit dry. Absolutely great ambience and wonderful staff! I had a hard time deciding so I ordered a half shrimp Poboy and the hamburger with fries. The seafood gumbo was flavorful, although the cayenne overshadowed the flavor profile. I'd order it again. My only other complaint was they didn't have filé. Beware, they have *bottled* water rather than tap. They do offer both Abita and Barq's root beer but not in the fountain. If you drink a lot with your meal, opt for the Gold Peak tea or the fountain drinks. read more

We got a shrimp and catfish platter that was very good but the roast beef poor boy was terrible and at the price they charged it was even worse. They gave us the roast beef separate and we had to make our own sandwich and the beef was greasy with no gravy! read more

We ordered onion strings, a seafood platter and a kids shrimp basket for me and my two young boys. Drove 45 min just to go pick it up then head back to our air bb cabin in the woods. Food was prepared rt in time for my pick up which was extremely nice of them to not make it as soon as I called in the order and have it sit there for 20 min before I even arrived. It was a lot of food for us 3 to eat. But we all stuffed ourselves. The only thing that was cold was the fry's, but we had enough seafood to eat, so the cold fry's weren't an issue. Everything was seasoned just right and delicious. Will definitely return anytime we are in that area again. read more

I've been to this restaurant before and my family loved it but today I stopped by and was not satisfied with the quantity of my order. I purchased a oyster poboy dressed at the cost was $19.99 plus tax for a half size oyster po boy sandwich and the quantity on the bread was like 10 oysters total. I didn't notice it until I made it to my car. This is unacceptable as the portion does not match the cost. Secondly, when picking up you have to wait in the same line as the guest ordering their food. A large party was before me so I waited a bit on my lunch break. I have never had a bad experience on food here. The good great as expected from the menu options and is crowded often. The seating would be better if they closed the patio and added on more downstairs seating. These knees don't work great on stairs as much anymore. Because of the holiday many places were closed but this restaurant was open - the reviews and menu looked good so decided to try it overall, food quality and portion size was good. ambiance was also good but customer service was lacking we started off with the onion rings which were thick rings and a decent better; we then got the half poboy + shrimp gumbo and both were good; the seafood platter with sweet potato fries and finally the grilled shrimp tacos which were also good and flavorful and came with fries. each item was good with good flavors and quality; the fries were average and there was an extra charge for cocktail sauce which was not detailed. overall good food and good portion size but customer service and details, especially if you there for the first time, needs to improve read more

I'm a regular at RP but I will have to tell that the prices they are charging are ridiculous! I can order a chef salad and a drink and it's $25 before tip. Then they only give you two little small servings of dressing and if you want more it's $.075 per serving more. That is really nickel and diming the customer. Their food is always consistent good but I have drastically cut back my visits. My rating only reflects the prices and not the service or food quality. read more

You walk up and order and our order taker person seemed rushed, the place was busy and maybe we were at the end of the line or close to it. We went here for our department luncheon. It's in a very nice area, almost looks like a small town you see on tv. There is plenty of parking in front of the restaurant, and there looks to have been more behind the building also. The inside has a small family vibe. I was greeted from behind the counter when I stepped inside. There is an upstairs area where you can host events, such as the luncheon we had. The restaurant was clean, the restroom was clean as well and very spacious. Our food order was taken, and surprisingly, for the amount of prople we had, it was served in a timely manner. From the appetizers to my shrimp wrap, everything was delicious. Sorry, I didn't take photos of the appetizers but my favorite was the fried pickles, the fried artichokes, and mushrooms. I had the blackened shrimp wrap. It was spicy, which is fine bc I like spicy foods. It had a good taste. You get 3 tacos, which was way too much for me to eat, so I took the rest home to enjoy later. I ordered a Pelican burger my husband a shrimp Poboy. His poboy was very good but unfortunately my burger was not. When the server asked us how was our food I had to tell her not good and didn't understand why the meat wouldn't stay together it was crumbling and loose in the bun and not sure why but the meat was chewy. The Rusty Pelican is a casual restaurant, featuring counter ordering, with a contemporary but decidedly Louisiana air. It was extremely clean and well maintained. The menu offers specialty burgers and sandwiches, along with appetizers and some Southern seafood favorites. Beer and wine are offered along with iced tea and soft drinks. My wife had the featured crab cakes and potato salad, which she thought were acceptable, but mildly seasoned, and in the case of the crab cakes, somewhat pedestrian. The high point of the meal was my Firecracker specialty sandwich, which was a huge offering of fried shrimp and jalapeño peppers, dressed to the nines, and accompanied by an excellent Remoulade sauce. What happened? I have been going to Rusty Pelican since they first one opened in Mandeville. It has always been top notch, though too pricey to go regularly. One thing that I could always depend on was the Oyster Poboy. Today, that dependability was crushed. The oysters had next to no taste and the bread was downright awful. I could not call it french bread in anyway shape or form. It was not crispy at all. If it was supposed to be french bread, someone got one over on them. My wife was disappointed with the shrimp basket saying the shrimp were not crispy either. We had two friends over, one who got the Corner Pack and the other, the fish filet. Both were underwhelmed at best. At $100 with the tip, this was totally a bust. I am not going to spend that kind of money for less than excellence. It's a shame, but I have been lost as a customer and I will not be making any recommendations to any one either. read more

Not sure why I took so long to do a review and I've been to Bithday locations multiple times, but this is definitely one of my favorites! Food and service is always consistent which I why I'll continue to come back and recommend. I've tried the shrimp tacos, wings, shrimp poboy, the jive bird, and the bbq chicken sandwich and loved them all. Oh and those onion rings and amazing! This was our 2nd visit as a road trip pit stop between Houston and Florida and it doesn't disappoint. Order at the counter and seat yourself. Service was very prompt which we love during a road trip. We didn't want to spend too much time off the road. We ordered cheese fries and fried pickles to share. Both were served with a ranch sauce and very yummy. It wasn't super easy to share appetizers as each table has a large container of condiments and a roll of paper towels. All needed items but took up a large portion of the table. No big deal, I'd just opt for a larger table next time. Our table ordered the mushroom burger, kid's burger and the Southern Comfort Burger. All were excellent and large portions. Casual setting and friendly people. This might become our regular stop on our yearly trips thru the area. I wish I had ordered a seafood basket but we were sharing and I was outnumbered. Also, turns out it wasn't bad news...or maybe the beers and burger fixed it, I dunno, but I had the Firecracker again just so I could tell the Monroe location they were better...except they weren't. Either location is gonna make your tummy happy and face hurt from smiling. If you're a flame-broiled burger fan and you're not enjoying Rusty Pelican...well, that just don't make sense, scratch it. Well, I was sorta disappointed when coming to this place. I thought it would've been a sit down and eat restaurant..especially hearing "sipping station" in the name. You walk in and order at the register at the front and sit and wait for your food to be brought to you. They have 6 options of beer on tap, and the menu items do sound very good. I went ahead and got the Hijacked burger which the patty on top (pictured) is fried pepper Jack cheese. Proceed with caution because it is HOT. The burger and fries were good, but didn't live up to my personal expectations. I tasted something funky that I wasn't a big fan of but the burger overall wasn't bad. I personally won't be back but I guess it isn't a bad place. I just like to sit down and drink for a little while and eat and enjoy myself which I wasn't able to do here.
