I saw this place as I was driving nearby to another business, but they were closed by the time I got back. I am glad I made it late morning on a Saturday. This isba quaint little hile in the wall spot to eat. We were seating right away. The service was outstanding as the server made sure you felt welcomed and your needs were met. So many choices to choose from that it was hard to decide on what to eat. The food didnt take long to come out and it was hot and full of flavor. We actually chose the bar bc there was a TV there and we couldn't see it where they were about to seat us. We tried the praline bacon. I think it was just okay. Tasted like bacon with honey. I didn't care for the texture bc I like my bacon crispy. I had the avocado toast and my husband had the seafood omelet. The toast was really good, the bread was thin, but it was very tasty and seasoned well. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his omelet amd it was very thick and filled with seafood. He ate half and took the other half home. The restaurant is a nice size, good amount of tables. It was clean also. The staff was okay...I'm neutral on that part because they weren't very welcoming, but they weren't rude either. It took a while to order bc we were expecting to be asked if we were ready to order, but was never asked, we had to get her attention. Drink order was taken quickly, but not the food. My wife and I live in Kenner and have been enjoying lunch once a month for many years with another couple who live on the North Shore. We have our favorites on both sides of the lake, but I recently read some great reviews somewhere online about Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen with locations in both Mandeville and Covington. After speaking with our friends we decided to dine at the Covington location of Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen. Inside the entrance, the restaurant posts their policy that you will not be seated at a table until all parties have arrived, which is understandable considering the huge amount of business they have. My wife and I arrived before our friends who were running a little late. The Hostess, Jill, asked me how many in our party and I told her four, but the other couple was running late and would be arriving in about 20 minutes. We took a seat in the empty waiting area inside the entrance. The restaurant appeared to have only one or two empty tables available inside when I arrived on a beautiful day. Five to ten minutes later the waiting area was full (approx. ten people). The restaurant was extremely noisy with all their customers enjoying their meals and conversing with friends/family. I noticed that there were approximately ten tables located in front of the restaurant in a beautiful covered patio, so I asked Jill if we could have a table outside once our friends arrived in about five more minutes because one of them was somewhat physically handicapped. There was only one empty table in the patio at the time. Jill explained that since she had a reservation in the patio for a party of eight that would be arriving soon, so she had been holding it for another available outside table to put together to accommodate this party. However, she said she would gladly give us the table. By this time, the waiting room was full of people and overflowing outside the entrance. I had given my seat to a lady and stepped outside to wait for my friends, who I noticed had arrived and parking their car. I told Jill and she seated us at the table in the patio. The four of us ordered different things on the menu, which were fantastic. Although the restaurant was packed, the waitress AND Jill visited our table several times to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchens' ambiance, service, menu items (along with portion sizes) and prices were absolutely astounding. We were all very impressed and grateful for a beautiful dining experience. FYI, this is a review for the location in Covington, not Mandeville. The address is 500 River Highland Blvd. and has been open since May, I believe, although it doesn't seem to have a presence on Yelp. Sorta off the beaten path and easy to miss, but features a nice venue with a laid back, extremely casual atmosphere, and a southern cafe persona. Open for brunch and lunch and although not open after 2:30 pm, there is a full bar featuring standard and specialty cocktails. You would think this would be well suited to an evening crowd. We visited on a Friday for lunch and a sizable crowd suggested an established following. Staff was welcoming and efficient and service was swift. The menu is somewhat eclectic, featuring takes on southern and pseudo- southern specialties along with appetizers, salads, burgers, and sandwiches. My wife had the chicken salad on croissant with a slaw side, and I had the broiled pork South House specialty with slaw and fried okra. Both were good, but the gravy with mine was somewhat of a gummy disappointment. Overall worthwhile though, so the brunch/lunch crowd would do well to check out the Crazy Pig. read more

I follow the Facebook page and absolutely had this restaurant marked as a "must try". On Sunday 9/28/24 our travels had us in close proximity to the Mandeville location. Excitedly we made our way. We put our name on the list and surprisingly, we were promptly seated. Our waiter was very informative and patient while answering our many questions. When we ordered, AUSTIN, was awesome. He made suggestions to my husband's order and to mine that proved to be well worth it! Our food was piping hot, tasted excellent, and service, although busy with the Saturday crowd, was top notch.
