This is exactly the kind of bar my wife and I have been looking for since we moved here from…read moreSouthern California a couple years ago. My wife and I decided to grab lunch in historic Mandeville today, and rolled by this bar on our way home so we decided to stop in for a quick drink. And we're glad we did. Let me start off by saying that California has a "dive bar" culture. Despite what most people see on TV about the glamorous night life in Los Angeles, that's not 99% of SoCal. And to be perfectly honest, I think it's kind of funny how bougie the north shore pretends to be. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of nice and seemingly upscale establishments to visit around here so I'm not trying to offend anyone. But sometimes you just want to grab a drink in a place that's not full of pretentious people who are trying too hard. We all live in a glorified swamp, people. Accept it. Very simply: a good pour, good music, friendly patrons, and good service. That's really all that matters. And the best part is that this place doesn't have the weird hours that a lot of the places around here do. Seriously, who's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays? Do better, North Shore. Jokes aside, this is a cool, chill little bar in a great part of town.

The location, directly on the St. Tammany Trace on Girod Street, is a definite winner. We dined outside today and service was excellent. We had a variety of burgers, salads, and munchables today and all were good. My Buffalo chicken salad was stellar; fresh, crispy, and generously portioned. They have a good selection of specialty cocktails and local brews, and the iced tea was good. Good things seem to be going on here. It will be interesting to see how things develop.

I tried a bait, and despite not being a big Cesar salad fan, did enjoy it. Chicken was flavorful, cooked perfectly and served on a beautiful cloves of garlic toast. Our apps were good. Chips and queso and flatbreads are pretty standard so they met my expectations. The Trace has plenty of menu options and beers on tap. I am curious to try their other menu items, specifically the main dishes. A very casual ambiance, we chose to sit outside and enjoy the warm weather. Our server was great and patient. He checked on us consistently through service and even gave our dog a water bowl as well.

It was nice, soft music, not loud and overpowering. Could still have a conversation . The waitstaff- very attentive - definitely going back!! Perfect Saturday lunch~ did not have a cocktail, but the food is top notch. We also got the heirloom tomato appetizer and I was so excited to get it that I forgot to take a picture ~ so delicious.

Bravo! We came here just for apps and drinks as we hopping from place to place on the Northshore. We did not have a reservation and we were there early enough that it was not crowded just yet, there was no one sitting outside where it overlooks the lake, but it was a bit hot so we sat at the bar. The bartender greeted us with a friendly smile. We ordered the flatbread app and martini espresso. The flatbread was not an ordinary flatbread dish, like I was expecting. The flavors all magically came together and this dish was really elevated. There was a BBQ sauce that was not your typical BBQ sauce, it was light, had a sweetness to it, and barely a drizzle on the fresh ingredients. The jalapeno lime crema also marinated the flavors of the pork and Tasso together, making each bite so satisfying. Even the bread was not tough or chewy; it had a nice soft texture and perfect way to serve all those ingredients together. This place was one of our favorites for our stay on the Northshore. Everything here as top notch and great!

We sat outside because it was a gorgeous day and decided to we wanted to try the charbroiled oysters. We ordered a full dozen to spilt between 2 of us. When we received the oysters it was nice that they split the oysters on 2 separate plates for us. The oysters were super tiny. They may have been a little overcooked which could have caused them to shrink, regardless, they should have either mentioned that the oysters are running small or not charge full price ($26). They tasted "ok", we've had better. We expect much more from a "Gallagher" restaurant. We will be back since we love the atmosphere and drinks, but we won't be getting the oysters!

We had very good food with catfish, wedge salad, shrimp and corn bisque, gumbo, Caesar salad with shrimp, and several good cocktails. Our son had the gumbo which he said was good but not as good as the best he has had. Our shrimp and corn bisque was absolutely delicious. I would love to have that again. We were in the dining room, which was a very lovely room with nice windows looking out to the lake. The outside dining upstairs has a better view of the lake, but it was still very nice. We wanted to stay in the air-conditioning. This is a good place to frequent if you live close.
