My wife and I tried out the Barley Oak in Mandeville this evening and are glad we did. The Barley Oak features good food , excellent happy hour drinks, and a laid back comfortable, yet still somewhat sophisticated, old world persona. Service at the bar was friendly, welcoming, and efficient. We enjoyed a tasty hot pretzel appetizer, a special Barley Oak cheeseburger, and a Reuben sandwich, which may have been the star of the show. Old Fashioneds were the drinks of the evening. The Barly Oak is a great place to meet friends for drinks and eats, or just to watch the sun go down over the lake. Highly recommended! read more

Four of us stopped here for a drink and to hang out by the lake and kill time before a dinner reservation. There is a fair amount of street parking. There is seating on the first level and second level. The bar is on the second level. We enjoyed haning out here and there is a very good selection of beer. It is also dog friendly as there were several dogs there as well. It is also right across the street from the lake so you can look on the lake while hanging out there. read more

Stopped by again early afternoon to grab a drink and look out over the water. One of a kind pub here folks. The inside gives me Lord of the rings vibes, those as of that of a traveler wandering into an ancient pub after a long journey for a much needed drink.. that is if that pub somehow existed in an upscale neighborhood overlooking the beautiful water and offered about a million varieties of ale. This is the kind of place I'd bring friends from out of town. The location alone is worth the visit, but the food and drinks make you want to stay longer. Seated across the street from the beautiful lake on the Northshore, The Barley Oak is the perfect place to enjoy a great beer or cocktail and some very delicious food. The bartenders will help guide you to a great drink if you just give them a few hints of what you like. The food is higher quality than just bar food. From the sandwiches to the apps to the burgers to the brunch, I have not had a bad meal on any visit. There are comfortable couches, perfect for a post dinner drink enjoyment, tables both upstairs and downstairs (open air), and a porch with a gorgeous view. I most recently went on a Friday afternoon while in town. The day was perfectly beautiful with blue skies. I sat alongside the porch rail and enjoyed my beer while meeting some locals. Not a bad way to start the evening. I rarely make to the the Northshore without a visit to The Barley Oak. read more

Barley Oak is a great place to hang out casually with a small group or a big group. They have a wide selection of wine, beers, and cheese boards. Their prices are reasonable, and it's right on the lakefront so you usually have a great view. It stays pretty busy, but I can usually always hear what my friends are saying so it has fairly good acoustics. This is my favorite bar on the Northshore. read more

I've been here more times than I can count, and it's a solid s-okay experience every time. I get it, the competition for a bar with a lakefront view isn't exactly fierce, since Don's has been out of commission for a couple years and the Lakehouse got Ida'ed. The beers are good and the bartenders are efficient, but it's pretty difficult to screw up beer. I appreciate the local beers that are highlighted as well as seasonal guest beers. The food is mediocre at best, with the sausage platters and pretzels being the top appetizers. The top floor patio area is small and tough to maneuver if it's full of people. The view can be lovely, but it's blocked by the treeline. The downstairs feels so far away and can create a hazard by carrying full beers down a huge flight of stairs. Overall, it feels meh, but it's good enough for return visits when someone else wants to go. On the plus side, they're very dog friendly. I've met some amazing pups. read more

Alright. What's better than an evening on the lakefront?! Great food looking at the subset on the lakefront. We really do enjoy a beautiful sunset BUT y'all..... the food here is yuck. I had a burger/chips and tacos. Chips instead of fries - thumbs down. I don't even eat bar burgers but I was drinking so I had to do what I had to do. The Barley Oak should revamp the menu right away. This close enough to Nola so I know y'all can find a chef to consult with. Merci 3 stars because it was a nice vibe. read more

The Barley Oak is becoming one of my favorite Northshore bars. Located on the Mandeville lakefront, the Barley Oak has an incredible view of the lake, great beer, great food and great staff. On my most recent visit, it was a busy Saturday night. Despite the crowd we were able to find two spots at the bar. Normally I recommend siting outside to look out on the lake, but it was a bit cold. While we didn't have the great lake view, we received such great service, that the bar may be my preferred spot in the future. The selection of beers is stellar. There looked to be at least 20 or more on draft with an even greater selection of bottles. We settled on a Fancy Lawnmower from St. Arnold, and a Irish Channel Stout from Nola Brewing. For the next round the bartender offered suggestions. Apparently Nola and Stone Breweries got together and produced a collaboration. I took her recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed the appropriately titled Pour Me Something Mister Porter. It was excellent. Besides making great beer recommendations, the bartender was very friendly, prompt and really made us feel welcome. Since we hadn't eaten, we ordered a Cajun sausage plate to help soak up some of the beer. The platter came with one link each of andouille, alligator and hot sausage. Additionally, there was a side of creole mustard with bread and sauerkraut. This platter was excellent. The sausage was perfectly cooked, and each was a good representation of the particular type of sausage. There were several other food items on their menu, so next time, I will be sure to sample more items. I found that prices weren't cheap, but were very reasonable considering the location. There are several stairs to traverse to enter the bar, but there is also an elevator to make it handicap accessible. I would imagine the elevator is also convenient after a few too many drinks since falling down 25 feet of stairs would be no fun. First time here, came out around 1:00 on a Sunday, it wasn't too busy and we were able to get a seat on the balcony overlooking the waterfront. We ordered a few beers and pretzels with cheese, the bartender was friendly and we were helped immediately. The pretzels were hot and fresh, perfect with melted cheese! It is very dog friendly and most people brought dogs, will try other food dishes next time, overall had a great experience! read more

Excellent place to grab a drink and enjoy the outdoors. Upper patio seats about 40 plus standing room and the ground floor patio is much more expansive. Beer selection is great. Alligator sausage grilled 4 cheese sandwich with chips and New Oak burger with potato salad really hit the spot. All very tasty and seasoned very well. Good crowd on a Tuesday. Bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer selections. Although there was only one bartender She did a great job in quickly getting customer orders. Excellent drinks and excellent views. This is my favorite place to go on the Lakefront with my friends. We always sit on the balcony and watch the lake. The drinks are always great. I haven't been a fan of the food so far. I've only tried like the pretzels and cheese and some of the dips. It's not bad, just not impressive and it can get expensive. I usually just end up getting drinks. There's a nice lounge area with giant comfy couches and it's pretty quiet here on weekday nights so it's a great place to meet up and chill. Dog friendly, and I really enjoy seeing cute little pups sitting beside me on the balcony. read more

The Barley Oak is a beautiful bar in Mandeville. A grand staircase takes you up to the wonderful balcony where you'll be delighted with amazing views of Lake Pontchartrain. There are many tables for you to sit and relax while taking in the great scenery. Inside is pretty great too. Abundant plush leather chairs and exposed wood beams gives it a very sophisticated and masculine feel. The beer selection is quite extensive and they have a pretty nice wine list as well. I didn't try the food, but some of the neighboring tables did and it looked good and smelled amazing. Definitely give The Barley Oak a try! I think you'll love it as much as I do. read more
