We recently had lunch at Mande's which is my new favorite lunch spot. It's a little pricey for this diner style restaurant, but so is everywhere on the Northshore. My son got the boudin omelet which looked quite good and he enjoyed it. The most spectacular dish was what my husband ordered which was a special on the board--the soft-shell crab Benedict. Omg, that was amazing. I ordered the crab grilled cheese and I did not have high hopes but this surpassed my expectations. It was so overstuffed with blue crab meat and just a little cheese. Look for the specials boards once you go up the two steps into the foyer and before you enter the main dining area. The boards are partially obscured by the large multi colored fish. Inside you are greeted with large atrium ceilings maintaining a New Orleans tradition of high ceilings to deal with the hot air. Wood floors and wood tables with matching wood chairs accent this North Shore location along with high hanging planter boxes over the bar. Every window has a stained glass piece of artwork hanging in it. I ordered their Crab Cakes Benedict from the specials board with Home Fries. Grits are available too. The crab cakes on an English Muffin with the eggs on top was super delicious and very filling to get my day started off right. The home fries were thoroughly cooked; nice and soft. Their orange juice offers two choices, regular and fresh squeezed. Service was excellent! I received prompt, courteous and friendly attention throughout my stay from all of the staff. Split the soft shell Benny that had two soft shells that were the perfectly sized. The group of people yelling in the room made it very difficult to hear a simple conversation. That was from only one occurrence and was really just from one person talking loudly. The last time we split the oyster Benny which wasn't plentiful of oysters and also contained some oyster shell. Sweetest staff you will ever meet! They have a very family welcome atmosphere. And some throwback stools at the bar. I ordered the Cajun Benedict and it was ok. Poached eggs and sauce were perfect but the sausage was not as flavorful as I remembered. Might be a new type they are using now. All in all a great early morning brunch place. read more

I was able to stop in today and enjoy my absolute favorite breakfast sandwich around! It's one of Mande's biscuits, sliced and spread with butter, then grilled to a golden brown. From there we add the crawfish sausage patty (you're gonna love this!) and an egg, over-easy. Add some cheese, if you like, picking from a few options, and you have a breakfast to make Clinton jealous. First bite into the flaky, crumbly biscuit, through the egg yolk, into the salty, savory sausage patty is like munching a bit of heaven in your plate. I like to finish it up with my fork because it's just so damned good and I don't want to miss any of that warm, runny yolk. I'm telling you now, my plate is clean enough to put back on the shelf when I am done, although you probably don't want to eat behind my licking it clean. I've asked, they wash it anyway. We stopped in for breakfast after driving across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway aka the longest bridge over water in the world! Twin bridges spanning 24 miles long. This was a charming place and was busy as expected for a Sunday morning. It had a diner feel to it. There were stools for counter seating. Our waitress was friendly and welcoming. We wanted to eat light since we were headed to the French Quarter afterwards. We shared a country omelette and chose wheat toast and home fries as our choices from the options provided. The country omelette is made with three eggs and had mushrooms, onions, Swiss cheese, and homemade turkey gravy. It was so good and the portion was generous. Honestly, eating half of that order filled me up. Wish it was closer to where we were staying so that we could've come back the next day. Good place! read more

Mande's is a unique restaurant located at the foot of the Causeway. The building itself is very cool. As you enter there is a giant fish sculpture which gives the place a laid back atmosphere. Inside there is a large bar where one can sit and eat like an old time diner. There are also several tables including a very large round table which looked to be able to seat about 8. Service was very good. Our server was attentive and friendly and quick to refill our coffee. For entrees we had the western omelet, kids pancake, french toast and eggs benedict. The kids pancake comes in the shape of Mickey Mouse which was quite a hit. The western omelet was good and the ingredients were fresh. It came with a side of potatoes which was very good. The eggs benedict were also good and they allow you to get a half order if you aren't that hungry. The uniqueness of the building and decor almost makes it feel like you are on vacation. If you're looking for breakfast, I recommend Mande's. read more

Today was a good day my wife and I got to enjoy the Saints win today, while watching them in person. Before we went to the game, we ate at Mande's restaurant for breakfast. The service was good, our server checked on us really well. Mande's was really busy but steady getting customers in & out of there on a steady basis, which was really nice to see. The food we ordered was good. We ordered drinks without looking at the menu since it is something basic to order. Now let's get to why I only give them 3 stars. When we get our bill to pay I noticed the 16oz. milk was $6.00. This is highway robbery for 16oz. glass of white milk. To make it better it was not even a Brand name milk; we saw the container and it was white milk from Sam's Wholesale. Now let's do the math, a gallon of milk at Sam's is less than $4.00. A gallon has 128 ounces in it, so there's 8 - 16 ounce glasses in a gallon of milk. So out of that $4.00 gallon of milk Mande's will have charged $48.00 for that gallon and profit at least $44.00. Because of how disturbing this was to us we checked other breakfast places that we go to for their price on a 16oz glass of milk. Cracker Barrel's 16oz glass of milk is $3.27 and Waffle House is only $2.25. The rest of the drinks are reasonably priced but milk needs to be brought more in line. You can see clearly why I say it is HIGHWAY ROBBERY for a 16oz glass of milk at Mande's. read more

Today I had the Mande's Club. It's everything you want and expect of a Club Sandwich! Perfectly toasted bread, crispy bacon, thick piles of ham and turkey and all the fixin's. I switched out the fries and got the red beans as a side (Yes, they let you do that). Delicious. The staff was fast, efficient and very friendly. Our standard favorite breakfast place on this side of the lake was closed today (you're breaking my heart with your beach vacation Liz's Where Yat Diner) so we tried Mande's after looking up nearby places with a good rating. Lots of windows make for a pleasingly bright space inside Mande's. The high ceiling gives it a very open feeling too. Local artwork is hung around the walls, in addition to a few fun, brightly colored oversized sculptures of fish. All in all, it is a very happy, relaxed space. We were quickly seated and served coffee and water. The coffee wasn't amazing, but it was hot and topped off frequently. We ordered the California omelette, featuring fresh spinach, herbed cream cheese and topped with sliced fresh avocado, and eggs with crawfish sausage. The crawfish sausage was more similar to a crab cake in both appearance and texture than sausage, but it was very good. All of the servers we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. The owner was also around and friendly too. We enjoyed our first visit to Mande's. read more

One of my favorite restaurants since childhood. When I lived on the South Shore my mom would take me to Mandys as a special treat on Sundays. It was exciting to go cross the longest bridge in the world! The menu is classic, simple and delicious. Everything is freshly made. Their Club sandwiches and other sandwiches are made with freshly cooked meats. Roasted turkey, freshly baked ham etc. One of my favorites is the eggs Sardoux also love the fact that you can make the order a half order if you need to. You don't have to over eat if you don't want to. Same owners since the beginning! Shout out to the Radiators who's big fish in the hallway was in my mother studio for a while. Not really crazy about Mande's, but it's quite popular and they do a lot of business. In fact, the last time we were there was a Sunday and we had to wait for a table. The few times I have been here was for breakfast. I think the prices are too high.The pancakes aren't anything special, although they do have banana pancakes and my brother-in-law LOVES them! The biscuits and gravy are kind of odd. I don't know what it is about them. Maybe it's the sage. I don't really care for it. I guess I should really go back and try them out for lunch. I think they are just open for breakfast and lunch. The ladies have always been friendly, though, and the service is good. I'll probably be back for lunch one day. read more

We stopped at Mande's for breakfast on our way home from a wedding trip. We'd heard great things about it so figured we'd give it a shot. The staff was very friendly, the ambiance was ok, but the food was only meh. I had the Cajun Benedict with the home fries (roasted potatoes with onions) on the side. My kiddo had the Crawfish Etouffee Omelet with Home fries and grilled biscuit. My husband had the club sandwich. None of the food was very well seasoned, which was pretty surprising considering the types of dishes we'd ordered. I actually didn't taste any onion in the home fries. And while the crawfish patty was a little tasty, it wasn't enough to carry the rest of the Benedict. The hollandaise was very bland - there was no tart/sour taste of lemon or vinegar at all. My daughter and husband were not impressed with their meals either. Lastly, the TV was tuned into Fox News. Clearly, they are aware of who their primary patronage consists of, but I feel like HGTV or sports TV or something a little more neutral would be a better option. This is actually a 3.5 star rating. We haven't been to Mande's for several months and decided to go for brunch. While the food was good (etouffee omelet and eggs sardou), the service was not as 'cheerful' as usual. We had two different waitresses and it seemed like the main waitress was in a hurry and trying to maybe serve too many tables. As we placed our order, she quickly stated "we are out biscuits." I asked if they were making more and she responded "yes but it will be 15 minutes." I really didn't see any issues since it takes about 15" for the food to be prepared and delivered to the table. We almost got the impression that they didn't want us to order biscuits--which is a staple for Sunday brunch. To say the least, our breakfast came out in less than 15" with the biscuit. Again not sure why so much drama was put into this. Otherwise we had a pleasant meal with excellent flavors and quantity for the price. We will be back as we enjoy breakfast at Mandes. read more

Recently ordered breakfast take-out, and everything was absolutely delicious. Their breakfast biscuits are made fresh, and are larger than you would think. I felt the price was great for such a large serving! Each biscuit has freshly made scrambled eggs, cheese, and meat. Super filling and delicious; I'll definitely be back. I really appreciate the easy on/off the bridge situation, and few parking spots right out front. We went to Mande's because a friend told us they had the BEST Bloody Mary (and he know what a Bloody snob I am!). The Bloody was good (not THE best I've ever had, but certainly I'll order it again), but the real star here is the FOOD!!! We ordered the Crawfish Etoufee Omelet and the special Shrimp and Grit Cakes. Now, first, the boyfriend is an absolute addict for Crawfish Etoufee. He orders it EVERYWHERE we go when we're in the area, for business. After Mande's, he's actually refused to return to his former favorites! The Shrimp and Grit Cakes....now what is a "grit cake" you ask yourself (as I asked myself)? Apparently they form their grits into sheets and refrigerate them. Then they lightly batter and deep fry them! Then they add the HUGE shrimp, sausage, and INSANELY delicious sauce, and what you have kids, is pure genius! I can not wait to go back. Mandy's is quite the hidden gem! Very relaxing, clean and enjoyable neighborhood atmosphere! Excellent breakfasts and tasty, well priced , Well presented entrées. Frank and his staff are attentive and give personal attention to each patron. This is the quintessential New Orleans neighborhood restaurant, even though it is on the North Shore near the north end of the Lake Ponchartrain Causeway. It is certainly a great place to drop in for a late breakfast, early lunch! We always try to bring friends here from out of town to experience some of the" village atmosphere" we loved so much about New Orleans. read more
