My favorite breakfast spot. Such a hidden treasure. I hod the opportunity to try the new items on the special board. You can't go wrong with any item you choose

Sides of the red beans and rice and the etouffee.

Oh my goodness their Red Beans and Rice is AMAZING! So amazing. Nice people. We got there close to closing and everyone was still nice and the food was amazing. What a great eating experience it was such an inviting place. Go check them out.

Cajun Benedict

Sweetest staff you will ever meet! They have a very family welcome atmosphere. And some throwback stools at the bar. I ordered the Cajun Benedict and it was ok. Poached eggs and sauce were perfect but the sausage was not as flavorful as I remembered. Might be a new type they are using now. All in all a great early morning brunch place.

I was able to stop in today and enjoy my absolute favorite breakfast sandwich around! It's one of Mande's biscuits, sliced and spread with butter, then grilled to a golden brown. From there we add the crawfish sausage patty (you're gonna love this!) and an egg, over-easy. Add some cheese, if you like, picking from a few options, and you have a breakfast to make Clinton jealous. First bite into the flaky, crumbly biscuit, through the egg yolk, into the salty, savory sausage patty is like munching a bit of heaven in your plate. I like to finish it up with my fork because it's just so damned good and I don't want to miss any of that warm, runny yolk. I'm telling you now, my plate is clean enough to put back on the shelf when I am done, although you probably don't want to eat behind my licking it clean. I've asked, they wash it anyway. Get here, get you a Robby special, and you can thank me later.

Cheeseburger

Cutest place with the nicest staff. Cheeseburger is huge, and flavorful. Ordered medium and was cooked medium! Can't wait to come back for breakfast

a plate of sandwiches and french fries

Delicious club sandwich. Best in the area . Worth the visit for sure, their traditional breakfast is definitely enjoyable. Will be back .

Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen - Crab cakes

We have our favorites on both sides of the lake, but I recently read some great reviews somewhere online about Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen with locations in both Mandeville and Covington. After speaking with our friends we decided to dine at the Covington location of Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen. Inside the entrance, the restaurant posts their policy that you will not be seated at a table until all parties have arrived, which is understandable considering the huge amount of business they have. My wife and I arrived before our friends who were running a little late. The Hostess, Jill, asked me how many in our party and I told her four, but the other couple was running late and would be arriving in about 20 minutes. We took a seat in the empty waiting area inside the entrance. The restaurant appeared to have only one or two empty tables available inside when I arrived on a beautiful day. Five to ten minutes later the waiting area was full (approx. ten people). The restaurant was extremely noisy with all their customers enjoying their meals and conversing with friends/family. I noticed that there were approximately ten tables located in front of the restaurant in a beautiful covered patio, so I asked Jill if we could have a table outside once our friends arrived in about five more minutes because one of them was somewhat physically handicapped. There was only one empty table in the patio at the time. Jill explained that since she had a reservation in the patio for a party of eight that would be arriving soon, so she had been holding it for another available outside table to put together to accommodate this party. However, she said she would gladly give us the table. By this time, the waiting room was full of people and overflowing outside the entrance. I had given my seat to a lady and stepped outside to wait for my friends, who I noticed had arrived and parking their car. I told Jill and she seated us at the table in the patio. The four of us ordered different things on the menu, which were fantastic. Although the restaurant was packed, the waitress AND Jill visited our table several times to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchens' ambiance, service, menu items (along with portion sizes) and prices were absolutely astounding. We were all very impressed and grateful for a beautiful dining experience. Special thanks to Jill who was abundantly pleasant to deal with. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen certainly placed Jill in the right position.

She highly recommended the Blacken Shrimp and Grits. When my food came out, it was a large plate with plenty of shrimp. The food was amazing. I got my Southern/ Creole craving fulfilled. I'm definitely coming back! I wish they would open longer so I can grab late lunch or early dinner.

The food was excellent, the service was great, and I'll be back in the future. Everyone in my family loved their meals. I had the Ember Black Cod, which was outstanding. They seem to be flexible in that you can order off the lunch menu at dinner or vice versa. Keep it on your radar and try it if you have not. PS Their sign is a bit understated, but it's directly across the parking lot from long time Mandeville landmark La Carreta on the W. Causeway Approach.

Their food selection is vast, but also highly limited in flavor variety. Dishes are not much better than local chains and priced comparative to fine dining in the area. The few things I have ordered in several visits here have been either bland, prepared incorrectly or covered in overly salty sauces. Their standout dishes are definitely their tuna and the complimentary bread, which pairs well with the ricotta. At our last visit, we were not assigned a server, and despite the restaurant being empty, waited 20 minutes for a glass of water. One of the bartenders noticed (blonde) and was kind enough to jump in and assist. She helped up promptly and dinner came out quickly. Our order was simple, a chicken in papillote, tomato soup and burratta salad with chicken. The salad was fine but not well dressed, and whatever I did get of the dressing lacked acidity. Chicken was well seasoned and tasted great. The papillote chicken was disappointing as it had no color and resembled a boiled chicken breast. I understand a papillote technique, but think that it should have been done on a grill or at least finished on a broiler for color, texture and taste. The accompanying rice was also sloppily put on the plate with little care. The soup was cold, but after waiting so long we didn't send it back. It did taste good though. Cocktails were excellent! Service is generally good, and we understand this can happen anywhere, but the food was not enough to make up for it. I've noticed this with several restaurant groups in town that open a more "upscale" brand within. They often do not have the training and staff infrastructure to support the more luxury outlet. This often makes it feel like you paid (insert fancy restaurant here) prices for (insert casual/family style brand here) food. We will continue to come back for small plates and drinks but generally skip dinner unless it's an invite or group outing.

We gave ourselves an hour and a half, enough time to eat and get to our next planned and scheduled event that day. So, we weren't in a rush. We get in the quickly moving line to order our food at the counter. I order a salmon bagel and the hubs ordered a meatball ciabatta. We sit down and I noticed it is a very busy place. It is a very large place and I noticed how clean everything was and how efficient all the workers were at getting the food out. One after the other, food was coming out like an assembly line and the food looked good, too. But the assembly line apparently stopped, no orders were coming out, and we waited about 20 or 25 minutes. At least we had our drinks because it is a counter service type establishment. We noticed stacks and stacks of 'to go' orders were being placed in the counter area. After nearly 35 or 40 minutes we get our food. Some guy had ordered a 'football teams' worth amount of food. So, although it was not the restaurant's fault, it was frustrating the timing that our order was f course put in right after the guy that ordered 20 dishes. I get my bagel to try to eat quickly, since now we are in a little bit of a rush. And the bagel couldn't have been more complicated to eat. I just wanted a complete lox bagel but it was a deconstructed bagel where I had to put the thing together. I would have enjoyed the meal a little better had my bagel been properly served, like for example, the way Flour Moon serves their bagels to customers. I don't know if we will be back because I rarely visit the Northshore, this was a special occasion. I guess if I do come back, I would like to try one or two of the desserts from the case. Those looked really good.

Beyond that, the food and service are simply perfect every time. I enjoyed some small plates last night, including an espresso martini, the tuna crisp and the soup de jour: tomato basil. Everything was served at the perfect temp, cold for drinks and crisp and piping hot for the soup. The martini was standalone and had the perfect hints of chocolate essence and level of sweetness. It was more coffee than liqueur which I loved and the drink was pleasant without it tasting too much like the spirit. I do mine with gin and they always do such a great job. The tuna crudo was good, and presented so nice with a pour-over of the agua chile tableside. I do feel like it was missing some spice and salt, leaving it to fall a bit flat. However it was incredibly fresh! The soup was a perfect way to end my night, light enough but also filling. So creamy and good. A major thank you and recognition for Nathan. He is an excellent bartender, server and had amazing suggestions for menu items and drinks. He kindly asked the kitchen for extra requests and helped making our dining experience memorable. Service was friendly and efficient and Taylor took excellent care of us. General Manager Josie dropped by our table to share info on Lumora and her visit was appreciated. There is a full bar and a wide selection of specialty cocktails. Today I had a Blood Orange Mezcal Margarita and my wife had an Ex-Presso Martini. Both were great! I highly recommend the Mezcal spice served up on the Margarita's rim in place of the standard salt. We then enjoyed the Zydeco Eggroll appetizer, which the pepper jelly garnish made truly memorable. I then followed with the Buffalo Chicken Pinsa and my wife had the Hot Honey Pepperoni Pinsa. Both were excellent; hot, pleasantly spicy, and generously portioned. We took home a lot of food. Although we had no room for dessert, several on the menu looked quite sumptuous. In short, Lumora Kitchen and Bar is highly recommended!
