How does this place have 3.5 reviews everything I've ever gotten from here was so freaking good. They have homemade blue cheese dressing. It is the most delicious thing you'll ever eat, the fried oyster Caesar salad, the oysters are 10 out of 10, I've never had a better chicken marsala anywhere, the fried onion rings are straight from New Orleans recipe, they're so delicious, the Po boys are great, the service is great, pasta great. Mandina's of New Orleans is a long time staple in Mandeville, although this was our first visit. Mandina's features an extensive menu that highlights their primary specialties, which are Italian cuisine and seafood. Today we enjoyed their full bar, excellent service, and tasteful decor, which combine to impart a comfortable, welcoming ambiance. I had their chicken Marsala, which was prepared in the traditional style and was tasty. My wife had their signature muffuletta, which although unusually prepared on French bread, was good. Salads were somewhat wilted, but iced tea was quite good. Mandina's is worth your attention and we will return to try some other Italian favorites, including their lasagna, which I hear is excellent. read more

The food was really good! We all had something different, Meatballs, Chicken Parm, Chicken Marsala, everything was done very well. The apps were all great, piping hot and fresh. We went there Saturday night and the place was not busy. Service was initially slow and the two fish dishes were not good at all. In fact one was returned. My trout still had skin attached in some parts and both were tough like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. I expected better from the Mandina name. Won't be going back. read more

We have been to this restaurant several times when we are visiting the North-shore. We love the South shore original Mandina's. Excellent New Orleans family establishment. The North shore version of Mandina's doesn't quite have the charm if the original, it is still a very good restaurant. The grilled catfish was very good recently, as was the spaghetti and meatballs. The seafood gumbo was excellent. The spinach dip with fried farfale was also very good... in some ways better than Copeland's. This place has a great bar too! The wait time on a Friday was only about 20 minutes. Place is really busy but the tables turn over quickly. The food is just as good as the original location on Canal Street and the atmosphere is more suburban, but they try to match the ambience of the original store in New Orleans. We still like the original restaurant better but if we don't want to drive 45 minutes across the lake and wait in line, we will come back here again. read more

I regularly eat here, but tonight I have to complain. I usually order a soft drink, but tonight I ordered a glass of water. It tasted AWFUL. Mandina's has had this problem with their drinking water for YEARS, and they don't do anything to correct it. I know several other people who have had this same complaint over the years -- the water tastes like it came from a sewer. There is something REALLY WRONG here, as even water from a faucet doesn't taste like this. I cannot believe that the owner is not aware of it (because multiple people have complained about it), and I further can't believe that they continue to serve nasty tasting water to their customers. How about installing a filter?? Additionally, I ordered a Fried Shrimp Platter, which is about $21. It comes with only fries -- no salad. I'm not talking about a kid's meal. I'm talking about a shrimp platter. This platter came with 12 popcorn shrimp. Seriously?? I have never been to a reputable restaurant where the shrimp platter didn't come with a dozen good-sized butterflied shrimp with tails on. These of course were too small to even butterfly. If they were going to serve shrimp this size, they should have put 36 of them on the platter. Check out the photo (which actually makes them look larger than they were). They should be ashamed to serve something like this. read more

Located in a strip mall, there is plenty of parking. It is pretty easy to find. I came with a couple of coworkers as we like to get together for dinner every once in a while. We walk in and are quickly seated and asked what beverages we wanted. All three of us ordered appetizers and only two of them were brought out. The wings were good but only mildly tangy, not really spicy. The dip was bland. We never got the fried ravioli, but that is probably for the best and we did not get charged for it. One of my coworkers got the fried fish plate and came no where close to finishing it. The other got the steak and also came no where close to finishing it. I got the pasta and shrimp and my stomach started revolting before we were done. The total price was reasonable, and they were quick on the drink refills. I'm a fan of Mandina's ordinarily but I should have known that if I order red beans and rice plus sausage on a Tuesday, that's not the best choice. Tuesday evening, RB&R is on the menu so I got it. This place is a mixed bag. Some things are really good, like the Ceasar salad and French bread (although there is WAY too much butter on the bread). There is something terribly wrong with the water, and no matter how many complaints they get, they never correct it. Seriously, I have NEVER tasted nasty water like this. They should take Trout Meunier off of their menu. It is supposed to be sauteed in butter. Instead, it comes soaked in brown gravy -- like you'd get on a roast beef poboy. The grilled chicken is often rubbery and is a very small portion for $7 extra on a salad. The lasagna tasted good, but it was literally one layer. I've never seen it like that anywhere else. I travel 3 weeks per month. Eat out 30+ times per month. Sunday, we were looking for a place to eat and Mandina's was open so we went. She had a caeser with shrimp and I had grilled chicken with potatoes and green beans. Her salad was okay. My chicken could not had been more than 4oz of tough meat, green beans were out the can and potatoes were just boiled in what I presume was crab boil. Each had one drink. Total was $62.00 with tip. Went for lunch and was a little hesitant to order the lunch steak special at $16.95. Very goad I did! Surprisingly delicious NY Strip cooked exactly the way I requested with perfectly cooked green beans. The waiter was on top of it and very friendly! The ambiance was clean and pleasant. Mandina's opened their Mandeville location after Katrina in a space that was formerly a bar. I have been to this location several times, but my most recent experience was for dinner. We arrived around 6 and were promptly seated. A male waiter kind of blew us off saying he would be right with us, but didn't seem sincere. Before he could "get to us", Lori arrived. She was super friendly and personable. She turned out to be a great server and I was glad the other guy was too busy to help us. I started with some turtle soup. Their turtle soup is similar to Commanders Palace's version and was very good. They gave me the bottle of sherry so I could add exactly the amount I wanted. Normally the server adds till you say stop, which can mean you get too much or too little. The soup was very good. For entrees we ordered the Veal Parmesan, Shrimp Bollinaise, kids spaghetti and kids grilled cheese. The adult entrees came with a side salad which was pretty standard. What wasn't standard was the dressing. I got their remolade which was incredible. Spicy, but not overwhelmingly so, it was very good. The kids meals were great and the spaghetti was more than enough for two kids. The shrimp bollanaise reminded me of a shrimp alfredo. There was a massive amount of shrimp, pasta and sauce. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. The sauce was creamy and flavorful. This was a good dish. The veal parmesan was very good. The veal was tender and incredible. The entire dish was covered in red sauce that tasted great. The red sauce was traditional New Orleans style and had great depth of flavor. The plate was loaded with pasta as well. This dish could feed two normal humans. We really enjoyed this meal. Lori was great, the food was great and the atmosphere is great. I highly recommend this Mandina's location. Now if only more New Orleans restaurants would open locations over here, I would be a happy man. read more

Love, love, love their eggplant parmesan! So much that I've ordered it twice in the past month. Thinly sliced eggplant, lightly fried with the perfect red sauce over angel hair. The fried eggplant appetizer and fried shrimp are delicious too. My whole family loves when we go here. Left a family burial in New Orleans and returned to the North Shore for lunch. we decided on Mandina's and it was just what we needed. Staff was courteous and friendly. Went to Mandina's in Mandeville this week. Was looking forward to have some Trout Meunière. Alas, this was not the place to have it. Meunière is prepared with butter and lemon. What I was served was a nicely fried fish with a brown gravy. Very disappointed. It seemed like there was only one waitress for about six occupied tables. Service was slow.
