Outstanding Restaurant. I'm in town in business again and the suggested I try Pontchartrain. They were not wrong. Very generous portions on my Shrimp PoBoy. The Onion Rings were freshly cut and so good. The Bread had to be the World Famous Liedenhiemer because it took me back to my childhood in New Orleans eating Hot Sausage PoBoys at the corner store. The fried food is seasoned and salted well - perfect! The gumbo is good not perfect but it's good. The Mac n cheese is big servings and my 13 and 9 year old approved. We had no complaints and had leftovers after leaving always a good sign for a family that usually clean plates elsewhere. I ordered the half fried oyster po' boy ($15) and a side of red beans & rice ($4), while my guest had the fried fish basket ($13) that comes with three strips and a side of potato salad. The oyster po' boy was tasty with fresh bread and well-seasoned oysters, though I felt the portion was a little small for the price. The red beans & rice were flavorful and a great complement to the meal, and the fried fish was crisp and nicely cooked. We arrived around 2:30 p.m. on a Monday, and the place was busy, which says a lot about its popularity. The service was fair, and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Prices were mostly reasonable--the only thing I thought was a bit overpriced was the oyster po' boy. All in all, good food, generous portions on most items, and a lively local atmosphere. We ordered and the food came out pretty quickly which was good since we were all starving. We had the fried shrimp poboy and fried oyster poboy. I spotted this place on the map app before I ever got to town and bookmarked it. Today is the day I get to try them. They are closed on weekends but I'm not complaining because good food is worth waiting for. This a simple establishment with a long dining room with lots of tables and all the basics provided including two fountain drink stations. Come in, order at the counter, find a table and wait a couple of minutes for your food. Outside on the sidewalk, the chalkboard says Red Beans and Rice every day now for $12.95! Sounds good to me since I've had shrimp every day since Friday including today. But I'll be back! To try a shrimp po-boy because I LOVE SHRIMP! Their red beans and rice are excellent! Cooked perfectly. An order comes with cornbread (of course - a must) and smoked sausage. The cornbread was delicious as was the link of sausage. My taste buds never had it so good. Service was great. As soon as I scraped off my plate of leftovers into one of the provided to-go boxes, a server took that empty plate off my hands before I could set it back down. I see multiple chalkboards calling my name too. I have not had a Muffaletta yet. I love the olive salad that comes on them. And I couldn't get out of here without browsing the dessert case. Had the pleasure of stopping by this staple of a gem for the first time while parents were in town visiting. We ordered onion rings, crab cake pasta, roast beef Po-Boy, soft shell crab special which comes with fried shrimp and a bowl of gumbo, and the hot burger which is a hot sausage patty and hamburger patty put together. All of our food was delicious. Especially the crab cakes. You can tell it's fresh crabmeat and not artificial. You have to place your order at counter and then they will bring to your table. Peak hours are definitely 12-1pm. We had to wait about 15 mins to get a table after someone got up. The gumbo did give me bubble guts afterwards so I won't get that again. read more

This place used to be a good option. They are now basically a food mill, turning out tons of mediocre food for high prices. The veal cutlet was awful. It was saturated with grease and sitting in puddles of grease on the plate. The breading did not stick to the meat, and one piece out of three was inedible, with so much gristle I couldn't chew it. The stuffed artichoke was almost comical. It was a really small artichoke with piles of stuffing on the outside to make it look large. It was lacking in garlic flavor. A soft drink is $3.25 now, which is way too high fora casual place like this, especially since they force you to drink out of a tiny, thin plastic cup instead of a decent sized foam cup. If I'm going to pay this much for a soft drink, I don't expect to drink out of a tiny cup someone would throw off of a Mardi Gras float. I have to get up too many times to refill the cup, and that causes more congestion at the drink station. The bread on their po'boys is too chewy and it's not heated to crisp it up. The place seems to be going downhill. No one seems to care about quality control. read more

When I called to address it, I wasn't offered a refund -- just told there "might be something" they could do if I returned it the same day. Because I couldn't, they refused to help me at all. Pontchartrain Po Boys is a must if you are in the area. Best po boys anywhere around. My favorite is the shrimp po boy dressed. The shrimp are huge, and it is overstuffed every time. I'm also a sucker for desserts, and they have a ton of them. The service is very efficient, but they get very busy, so it's usually not a quick in and out place. It is very clean and well set up with lots of tables inside and even some outside. Don't pass this place up. It is definitely one of the best shrimp po boys I've ever had. read more

Let me start by saying that I have been a loyal customer for years, coming once or twice a week for lunch with my group of family and friends. I had an experience today that I simply cannot believe. Over the years we have all noticed the confusion that often occurs at the ordering counter. There are two registers for dine-in. Sometimes people form a single line in the middle, with the next person going to the next available register, and sometimes there is a separate line at each register. You never know what it's going to be. There is almost always confusion. Today I walked in for a late lunch and there was someone ordering at each register and one additional person waiting directly behind the register on the right (not in the middle of the two registers). So, I got in line at the left register (which put one person in line at each register). The woman working at the register on the right tersely directed me to get in line behind the customer on the right, stating that that's how they're going to work it -- with one line serving everyone. After I ordered, I suggested that it would be great if they could put up some sort of rope line in the middle so that customers would know where to get in line and there wouldn't be confusion. I said it to be helpful, not to criticize. She responded defensively and sarcastically, saying, "Well, we've kind of been busy today, and it would just be common courtesy to get behind everyone who is in line." -- as if I had done something illogical. So, I said, "Well, it kind of makes sense if there are two registers that someone might believe there are two lines." When I said that, she reached over the counter and tried to grab the receipt from my hand and yelled at me, "I'm voiding the order! Go somewhere else!" I was shocked and asked to speak to a manager. She said, "Actually, I am the owner!" So, I said I would leave an honest review online, and she stormed off, waving her arms in the air, mocking me about leaving a review. I had just dined in this restaurant yesterday as well. This is no way to treat customers, much less loyal customers. I have never been treated this way in any business. I've probably spent thousands of dollars at this place over the years with my family. It was outrageous. read more

My husband and I visited during lunch time on a weekday. You order at the counter, get a number and find a table. All the tables were full during the lunch rush but we found a table. We ordered the eggplant sticks, I ordered a shrimp poboy, my husband ordered the veal Parmesan poboy and an order of fries. Even though the restaurant was full, our food came out within 10 minutes. Hot and fresh from the kitchen. Eggplant sticks were good with a tasty marinara sauce. My shrimp poboy was loaded with shrimp however the shrimp lacked seasoning and were bland. We love this place but we have no idea why the hours of service get getting worse. Closed on the two busiest days, the weekend, now they close at 6:45? You either have to take a day off to eat here. Family can't all get together being closed on Saturday. Everybody gets off average 5pm and depending where you are traffic will hault you from making it in time. Be open and Saturday and be off Sunday and Monday. Or stay open until 8-9. I just got get it because we love coming here but we can never make it now because they close so early. read more
