Sophia and I made our 2nd stop here the previous day before heading back to Virginia right before New Years. We made the trek after visiting my dad in my hometown. The previous time was 2 years ago when we had lunch with a friend of mine. Let's see how this one turned out. We were immediately greeted by the staff when we walked in and were seated promptly. It wasn't packed which was fine with us and everyone was busy taking orders or behind the bat. The decor inside was neat with Christmas decorations abound and spotless too. Definitely a nice vibe for customers alike. After looking at the menu for a few minutes, we were ready. I selected their fried catfish platter with onion rings and chargrilled corn for sides. Sauces included were tartar and their homemade Lafayette sauce. Everything was delicious. The catfish was seasoned perfectly and there was plenty of onion rings to go around. The corn was okay but not seasoned except for butter to spread. At the end of the meal, I was able to take a good amount home where it just as delicious. Don's truly came through this afternoon. Louisiana seafood at its finest. Hopefully we'll be back here next year when we're in town :) read more

Was on our way from New Orleans to Baton Rouge and spotted this spot and decided to try it and so glad we did. We didn't have reservations but was able to be sat right away around 1pm on a Saturday. Our server was very helpful, and offered suggestions since it was our first time. We actually took her recommendations which was the chicken and waffles. She was right, they were very good and I'm not a huge chicken and waffle fan. As I looked around I was watching the food others were ordering and honestly everything looked amazing. It is a very busy place, with tv's and people just having a good time. I good place to bring your family, or just come on a date night. Wish there was one in my city! read more

I just had an outstanding experience. We sit down and our fantastic server, Gabby, comes over with this amazing bread that is swimming in melted butter. I jokingly say we'll have 4 more plates of the bread. Gabby comes by with a plate filled with More bread. She takes our drink order and we ordered the char grilled oysters. They were amazing. We used the extra breads to soak up the butter from the oysters. I ordered the stuffed catfish, which was amazing, as were the fish tacos. Great meal and we will be back often. read more

We just love this place for crawfish! The bar service is so fun. Our favorite bartenders are Gabby and Brittany. Donnie the GM is very friendly and always says hello to us when he sees us at the bar. The jacked up oysters are consistently great. My new favorite is the Seafood salad with lump crabmeat, shrimp and crawfish. So fresh and also very consistently great. To begin with we were there for a late lunch. We were the only people in dining room. Our server was ok but not very attentive. There was one person drinking at the bar and the bartender was completely engaged in this jerk. He was spouting profanities and we were sitting 15' away no people there so voice was carrying. We had already ordered or we would have left. We got oysters both raw and chargrilled. Raw were good although looked like they'd been opened for some time and the chargrilled weren't bad just not great. My husband got seafood gumbo and it was devoid of taste and seafood. I got the fried shrimp which came with a hush puppy. They were both fried hard and the hush puppy just disintegrated upon biting...like sand. I told our server and instead of apologizing she said that was funny everyone loves them. I even demonstrated the quality and texture and she said well I mean they aren't battered. We've always loved the Dons in Metairie but there's something lost in translation at this one. read more

Normally, I go to the Don's in Gonzales but this location was very nice! The food was very good as always! The service was amazing! My friend and I started off with the jackup shrimp and it was very cheesy and seasoned well. It had a little kick to it but it wasn't bad at all. I had the stuffed catfish and it was very good! Very flavorful! I also had a frozen strawberry margarita (my go to) and it was good as well. The green beans were also very good, they had a little sweet flavor to them. The garlic mash potatoes were good as well. The ambiance of this place was a little different compared to the one in Gonzales. The only thing I didn't like about this place is that it was very dark in the restaurant. Other than that everything was 10/10. read more

The food was just okay, service was a bit slow, and it looks like your typical seafood/steakhouse type restaurant. It wasn't super busy for a Friday, so you would think service would be quicker. My son got the shrimp Alfredo, and whatever seasoning they put on the shrimp was absolutely terrible. He picked those out (I tried it as well) and the pasta was overcooked. I got the shrimp and grits, and while mine tasted better it was not hot, and the grits were lumpy. The bread they serve was just bread with melted butter and what tasted like garlic salt... too salty and a cheap way of making garlic bread... I also tried the blueberry mule, which wasn't balanced and was overly sweet. unfortunately this just wasn't a great experience. read more

It was our first time there and it was fabulous. Paige was our waitress and she took amazing care of us. I have a severe food allergy and she went to the kitchen to make certain that nothing of my food would go anywhere near what I'm allergic to. She also noticed when my husband's drink was empty and replaced it before my husband even had a chance to ask for anymore. She was extremely attentive! We had a shrimp appetizer that was amazing. The service was excellent! That's where it ends - the food was not good. We were visiting from out of town trying new Cajun/Seafood restaurants and this place was recommended. The tartar sauce was almost pure mayonnaise, the coleslaw had a weird soured taste to it, the cocktail sauce was basically ketchup. We ordered the seafood platter with a cup of gumbo. The gumbo and hush puppies were not bad but, everything else was an over fried and under seasoned mess. Two stars because our waitress was excellent! read more

I passed by Don's this weekend and made a note to come here for lunch. Unlike a lot of places they open at 10 am, W00H00! They have a brunch menu on weekends. I've always loved Don's but this is my first time at this location. I love the openness feeling walking into the dining room even though they have sectioned it off somewhat it still gives you a sense of spaciousness. I ordered the 1/2 Shrimp and 1/2 Étouffée (that's crawfish). It came with two small Hushpuppies as well. My meal was excellent, outstanding, superb; in other words it was really good eating. The shrimp tasted so good you don't dare doctor them up cocktail or tartar sauce. The Étouffée had plenty of ingredients making every spoonful delicious. I ordered the Cheesecake with Strawberry topping. Wow that first bite of the cheesecake was so creamy that I literally went, "Mmmm" out loud. The strawberries were fresh and real, not frozen or from a can; you can just tell, you know? Service was outstanding from the initial greet & seat and throughout the entire meal. We were a party of 7 and the food came out wrong and late. Had to send it back and it took forever to come. The manager came and rectified it. The server had a bad attitude. My son said the chicken tenders were delicious, and he rarely compliments food. My daughter ate all her fried shrimp, a rare occurrence. The fries were delicious. I had the crab Au gratin and it was heavenly. The hubby had the crawfish and étouffée. He said the étouffée was amazing by itself, but the crawfish was kind of bland on its own. I suggested he mix together and he said it was perfect that way. We went closer to closing on Thursday, around 7:30ish, and it was nice and quiet. A few families scattered here and there. This is a South East Louisiana chain. The portion size is typical for restaurants. Easily twice the size listed on the American Heat Associated website. The menu is mainly fried Seafood though they do offer boiled and grilled options. There are a couple of non seafood items like chicken strips, Beef Steaks and cheeseburger. Even the " Oschner's items " aren't exactly healthy but better than a plate of fried Seafood and fried potatoes. I didn't see any Vegan options or much for a vegetarian either unless you want a " stuffed " potato, fries or salad. They're very reasonablly priced and lower than most Seafood restaurants in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The service is very good. The food came out quick. We went early on a Thursday evening around 6pm and it wasn't busy. If you go later or on the weekend I would bet it's busy and noisy. The food is good but if you grew up on the Gulf coast this restaurant is nothing remarkable. If you want seafood at an extremely affordable price this is for you. read more

Based on my previous experience some years ago at this location, I decided to give it a second try. Upon a ride, it was exactly how I remembered it. it was very clean and spacious and with spot on. So we were seated by the hostess who advised us that are waiter. Would be there shortly. I ordered a seafood platter as I've done in the past. But unfortunately something was missing and it wasn't as tasteful as it used to be. To be honest, the best thing about the meal was the hush puppies. They were crispy, spicy, flavorful, and sweet. However, the rest of the food was not worth the price. The seafood was bland and dry, and the portions were way too small. I felt like I paid too much for so little. The restaurant did have a nice atmosphere, with a glass-enclosed grill at the bar, where you could watch the chef prepare the char-grilled oysters. The oysters looked appetizing, but I didn't get to try them this time. The server was polite and attentive, but I didn't feel any connection or warmth from her. She seemed to be just going through the motions without even making a suggestion to our guest. Overall, I was not impressed by Don's seafood's food this time. I'm not really sure if they're under new management or a recipe has changed. Maybe it's inflation or budget cuts but whatever the case the quality of food should never go down. So It might be a good place for visitors or travelers who want to try some local-esque cuisine. but if you're looking for a hearty, filling, and satisfying Louisiana style meal on a decent budget, I would suggest looking elsewhere. read more

This place knows how to do seafood. The oysters were the biggest oysters I've ever seen! And they were very fresh. The hush puppies were the best I've ever had, sweet and bready on the inside with a shatteringly crisp exterior. The oyster dinner was delicious, everything was fried to perfection. My only complaint is the gumbo -- it was thin and watery, just wasn't too great. But otherwise, I would definitely bring my friends here next time I find myself in Louisiana. read more
