Just passing thru Covington and Don's was conveniently located near our hotel. We easily got in on a Saturday evening during dinner hours. In short - dinner was wonderful! Our server was friendly and attentive, and the vibe of the place was casual. The blackened alligator appetizer was very flavorful. It's the first time we tried it blackened. My wife had The Fourchon, fried fish with jumbo lump crab cream sauce. She noticed that with their unique breading the fish didn't get soggy because of the cream sauce. Excellent! I had the Seafood Platter, which had stuffed crab, stuffed shrimp, fried catfish, fried shrimp, fried oysters, shrimp étouffée, French fries and coleslaw. Not as much food as it sounds, but very tasty. I also tried the gumbo which wasn't the best I've had.... But pretty good. We'll be back the next time we pass thru.... read more

We stopped at this place driving through town. It was amazing! The Dyzeto shrimp tacos were everything!! The avocado ranch that went with them was perfect. My hubby ordered the seafood platter and I tried some of his stuff. I fell in love with the shrimp Etoufee! Like head over heels in love! I wish I could take a gallon of it home with me to Florida. I want to start off by saying, I don't ever write reviews about places. If I don't have a good experience, I just don't go back. I have been going to Don's Seafood for years and I'm hoping that this was just a one time occurrence. My wife and I can only go out to eat on special occasions so when we choose wisely where we will spend our money. When we walked in the girl at the front was looking down at her phone, she looked up and grabbed our menus and walked us to a table that had hardly been cleaned. There was food all over the floor and something sticky on the table. When the waitress came to the table a few minutes later we had to ask her to wipe it for us. When our appetizer came we didn't have plates or silverware and had to ask for that. The last time we went to Dons, the manager was walking around talking and checking on the customers. This time the manager and bartender were sitting down at the bar on their phones. The whole time we were there! I'm not sure if they are under new management or what has happened. Our waitress was okay this time but we were blown out of the water the last time we were there which is why we came back. The girl we had last time kept our drinks full, checked on us several times, put our leftovers in a box and bag for us, and got us Togo drinks. We got the bare minimum this time. We really enjoy going to Dons so I hope this message gets to the right person so we can continue going. read more

The food was average in my opinion, may have just been the night we went, service seemed lethargic. I had heard good things about Don's and see a lot of cars in the lot so maybe mine was just an off day, but I personally have not been back as first impression was not good. read more

I thought the service was quick and I always had a refill, whether that was water or wine. Food came out quick--the jacked up oysters were a good vacation from the typical by adding jalapeños--yum! The crawfish quesadilla was so good--they have an avocado ranch sauce that is so good with the quesadilla. Not a huge fan of corn but enjoyed the roasted corn. This restaurant is amazing!! Next to a Courtyard Marriott which is convenient for out of town people not wanting to travel far. We were seated fast and had our drink and appetizers order taken within 5 minutes. I ordered Seafood Gumbo , and it was amazing! The temperature, spicy level was on point, I only wish the roux was a little thicker. My husband ordered the Crawfish Boudin and he loved it! My husband and I ate lunch here yesterday with the little girl we are adopting & her mom. We ordered the jacked up shrimp & the blackened alligator as appetizers. Both were absolutely wonderful! I have celiac and was super excited to find alligator that was NOT fried! We had the fried catfish, grilled salmon, kids chicken tenders & the seafood gumbo. All were delicious. The gumbo had the right amount of spice & heat-not slap ya momma hot, but you felt it in the back of your throat. The salmon had this nice soy based glaze on it-definitely not salty, but sweet with a little tang. The sweet corn grits were out of this world! I should have asked for the recipe. The atmosphere inside is modern yet still has that seafood/swamp vibe. Lots of lights but not in an annoying way. Our little girl has autism and she wasn't overwhelmed or overstimulated by the decor. She loved the gator head on the host stand as soon as we walked in. We are from Indiana (birth mom lives here in Louisiana) so we can't frequent this restaurant often; but if we're ever back in town-we will definitely come back! read more

We drove in from out of town and looked for a descent place to eat. The food took a very long time to come out and when it did, it was all lukewarm/ mostly cold. Our server Charlene did offer to take it back but after waiting forever we declined because we had to get back on the road. I had the shrimp stuffed blackened catfish with some sauce on it "sorry I forget what the sauce is called" but it was so good and tasty. And the yuengling was nice and cold. I wish I would have gotten their jacked up oysters they looked really good just watching the guys cook them made my mouth water. I really wish my belly had room for them. But maybe next time.
