    Burgers and Jesus

The coffee sucks. The breakfast burritos are now mid. The food quality has really gone down hill. Oh, did I mention the $0.39 surcharge for paying with a credit card? Yes, that too. I don't think there are any redeeming qualities of this place now. It must be under new ownership.

    Porkchop and eggs for dinner

Always passed by the spot when I exit on Studebaker and wondered if it was worth visiting. I can tell you that it most definitely was! The menu here is very large and they serve breakfast at any time of the day. I got myself a porckchop with some eggs. The whole plate was delicious and I knew it immediately when I first started eating. The service was great and the food came out fast. I came in on a Tuesday night and there was no one else there except for one other person. I will be coming back and trying something else on their very large menu. I left happy and full!

Found myself in the area with hungry kids and figured I would stop in for dinner, but boy have things changed since I was here last. First thing you may notice is that there's no prices on their menu anymore, and honestly that's for good reason; you would likely shorten your menu options if you knew. The Food: It's standard short order fare. Nothing out of the ordinary, save the price. When I got home I realized that the kids chicken strips were overcooked and essentially chicken jerky, that was a bummer. The Service: Honestly, the service was fine, they were moving quick and were friendly. It was a bummer when they mention that fountain drink refills were $0.59 e v en though the dispenser is customer facing. That's new, and quite unfortunate. Ambiance: The place is clean, it's well lit, and there's a lot of room and seating. My only real issue is that I paid over $30 more for the exact same meals that we get up the street from us, but the chicken isn't burnt, and they don't charge for refills.

This place has been here for ages and it has stayed fairly consistent throughout the years, for the breakfast cravings throughout the day this is a good place to come. The staff for the most part is friendly and willing to help with a few exceptions that come off as borderline rude. The old school diner feel with the wood tables and vinyl booths it's a old classic vibe.

    Pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon

Stopped by for breakfast after getting off from a 10 hour flight. My crew and I were craving pancakes. I went with small stack of pancakes and they were huge. I had hoped my 2 pieces of bacon would be crispier as I prefer. The scrambled eggs were good once I added some salt and pepper. You order your food at the cash register then you find your own seating. Some of the tables were dirty. So I made sure to wipe our table with antibacterial wipes. Our food came out within 10 mins. Overall everyone was satisfied with their food selection.

    Almost gone pastrami sandwich.

I went in about an hour before closing to get food to go. I ordered a pastrami sandwich and a bean and cheese burrito. The staff were busy cleaning and preparing for closing. I ordered at the counter and my food was ready within five minutes. I ate the pastrami and it was delicious. Well constructed, good meat to bread ratio. There weren't big blobs of fat inside like a lot of other pastrami sandwiches I've had. It was lean and tasty. I saved the burrito for tomorrow. The staff were pleasant. The restaurant is in the same center as my church and can get quite busy after services. Luckily there's plenty of seating.

A very welcoming vibe upon entry, we were greeted by a friendly couple who answered our questions about popular drink flavors. We decided to go with a Hot Cinnamon Dulce Latte and an Iced Blueberry Lavender Latte. While waiting, there were plenty of chairs, tables, a comfy couch and even a bar area to sit and relax. Tons of board games, books and wonderfully mellow music helps make the experience feel comforting and inviting. Our drinks were prepared quickly and shouted at the coffee bar for pickup. The presentation was great, but the flavors, out of this world! The Cinnamon Dulce Latte was OUTSTANDING. So good, in fact, that my girlfriend stole it from me! Not to worry, her Blueberry Lavender Latte was also top-notch, with a smooth, not-to-sweet flavor combination. Booking a reservation was super easy. I reserved a patio table for 6 guests at 6:30pm on a Friday night in the middle of summer! I was easily able to modify it and received text verification of my reservation. I didn't pay a dime to use the online booking system. Everything feels clean, classy and thoughtfully put together. When you first arrive, seeing the line out the door can be a little intimidating. Usually at places like this, I feel like I have to fight for my life to find a table, but thankfully that wasn't the case here. The staff was very kind and asks how many are in your party and helps you get a table, which made everything much less stressful. They also give you menus while you wait so you can decide what you want ahead of time. We arrived at 10:30am and our wait was about 30 minutes so by the time we were able to order at 11am, the lunch menu was also available. I ordered the tater tots, Cinnagave Shaken Espresso, Dutch Baby Pancake and country sourdough toast with jam. With tax and tip, my total came out to around $40. It's definitely pricier than what I normally pay for breakfast. Most entrées range from $17-$34 and coffees are around $5-$10, so you can easily spend $30+ for one person. In these hard times, that's not exactly ideal for me. I also wanted to try a pastry to get the full experience, but when I found out the small blackberry danish was $7, I decided to pass. I just couldn't justify getting that close to $50 for breakfast for one person. Now for the food! The country sourdough toast with jam was actually my favorite item. The homemade sourdough was incredible and honestly deserves its roses. It sounds like such a simple thing, but it was so well done and easily the standout for me. Visually, the Dutch Baby Pancake was beautiful and definitely impressive when it came out. I've always wanted to try one, so I was excited! I will say, I've read everywhere that Dutch babies are supposed to have more of a custardy center and even the photos I've seen look that way. Mine didn't really have that texture at all and tasted more like a crepe. Maybe it was a little overcooked? It wasn't bad, just not quite what I expected. Still delicious! Unfortunately, the tater tots were the biggest disappointment. They weren't crispy, didn't taste seasoned and sort of fell apart until they became one big potato mess. My cousins and I ended up not finishing them. One of my cousins ordered the summer peach and corn salad, which she liked! Just a heads-up that it's only available after 11 a.m. My other cousin got the skillet, she mentioned feeling a little disappointed since it tasted a little dry and didn't finish her plate. However they both ordered the Curious George drink and LOVED it! The Cinnagave Shaken Espresso was also fantastic. Coffee is definitely something they do very well here and I can see myself getting again. Overall, the aesthetics are adorable and I could see this being a great date spot. The coffee was fantastic, the sourdough was amazing, but the rest of the food was just okay for us. That was a little disappointing because everything sounds SO good on paper. Maybe we just caught them on an off day. The prices are probably the biggest thing holding me back from coming back regularly. Spending $30-$40+ per person for breakfast isn't really in my budget right now, but if this is within your price range, you may have a completely different experience. When I review a place, I try to take the overall experience, personal taste and effort into account. For now, I'm leaving Zuzu's Petals at 4 stars because the effort is definitely there, and what isn't my cup of tea may be someone else's liquid gold. I'd still give them another chance in the future... after I get paid!

The menu has a ton of really detailed options, each drink with its own depth. The menu changes seasonally but what doesn't change is the smoked old fashioned - a must-order. They smoke your drink in a glass container using applewood chips; it's quite a show and it also does make the drink much more enjoyable. Ask the bartender and they can also help guide you to a drink - I've done it a couple of times and always pleasantly surprised. Next up, the food! The hummus was very flavorful and paired with an amazing fluffy pita bread. The truffle fries were solid but the plate was HUGE, definitely needs a friend to share. The Nashville wings are the star of the show. I cannot stress this enough, this is worth a DRIVE for. The seasoning really does remind you of Howlin' Rays (the highest compliment) and the chicken is extremely crispy yet insanely juicy. The pickles and ranch that it comes with pairs so well. Do note that they are tossing it in pork fat, which enhances the depth but also makes it a little greasy at the end. I also wished they'd warn you this and offer to order it without it; especially for those who don't eat pork or for those trying to cut some calories. There's a happy hour menu too!!! So you can get drinks and food even cheaper. I cannot stop thinking about this place. It's such a sleeper. Head to Midnight Oil after a visit to continue your night.

I eventually ordered the Crispy Shrimp & Calamari to eat as my main (I was dining alone). I had recently had a very notable version of the same dish at a Canopy by Hilton in Washington DC, and unfortunately, this one did not measure up. The breading was average and the sweet chili aioli was poor. I asked for ranch instead, which was an improvement but still not great. The portion itself was fine. Service was solid and friendly! I'd rate the staff around a 4. Based on the food I had, the kitchen lands closer to a 2.5 to 3. Fine if you're already in the hotel and want something casual, but not an amazing choice for the fried seafood.
