Shrimp basket
Beth Ann C.

Really good shrimp basket with generous portions. A fun atmosphere and not busy at all on a cold February day.

Wait was no existent at lunch even though it was packed. Got right in and seated. The place definitely has the vacation beach vibe down. Waited for a while until the hostess cam and asked if our server ever came. The service was 2 out of 5 stars. The waitress was either just rude or just annoyed she had to serve us. Never brought straws we asked for (I went and got them from the bar). Totally forgot to put in our fried okra order....then blamed kitchen. Never asked to refill water. Food was decent for what we ordered. A few hot dogs, cheese fries and some fried okra.

There is plenty parking outside, the service was courteous and quick. We ordered Po Boy with fried ousters, Tuna Salad, and other things. My Po Boy was pretty good, fried ousters was very crispy outside. Consider this is tourist area, it's little surprise.

We have akways ordered food and took back to beach (which is always sooo good) Today we dined inside for the shade & AC. Lucked out and got seated immediately. Fast friendly service, fun beachy tiki bar decor. Quick lunch was very good. We had ahi tuna tacos, shrimp quesadillas and a burger. Came quickly! Burger was huge. Quesadilla nice size, but a little skimpy on the shrimp. Salsa was too watery for my taste but yummy, as was the quesadilla which also has pineapple and roasted peppers. Fish tacos looked great. We all were happy with our meal, and didnt burn mich beach time. In and out in an hour. Also have great selection of local beers. Been enjoying Fannie's food for many years. Glad we finally dined in. For a beachside joint, its perfect.

This place was so good. The decor was so cute, was the perfect beach town vibes. The staff were super sweet. The food was amazing. I couldn't decide what to get and seeing all the tables with different food walking by it made it harder to choose. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend!!

After reading some other reviews, I was skeptical but we went on a busy Friday night and the service was great, food hot and delicious and a great overall experience

We were between a few places along the beach on Tybee and this is the one we landed on. The menu looked decent and we liked the location. There wasn't much for a vegetarian like myself, but that's the case with most of Tybee Island: typically one vegetarian option per restaurant. The kids didn't find anything to eat (also vegetarian) and my wife tried the fish. The main issue here was that we waited for our food for over an hour. We didn't complain, but were given a 10% discount. I do think we should've received more of a discount. We watched several families come in after us, order, get their food, eat it, and leave, before we even received our food. We were pretty disappointed. Our server was nice and friendly and welcoming. She apologized a few times. I appreciate that. She told us "someone stole our food", which I assume means that another server grabbed it and delivered it to a different table. I just didn't anticipate spending so much of our one afternoon at the beach inside of a restaurant. And the food was just average. There are too many places to eat in the area that have a similar menu. I'll try someplace else next time. I appreciate the unique decor and my kids really liked the bar seating with the bathing suits. That was funny and made for a good photo op.

Fannie's sucks!!

What a terrible experience at this place! Was really excited and looking forward to this place since reading so many good reviews online. The service was HORRIFIC, over an hour to get our meal (4 of us) and it wasn't even all that great. Waitress never checked on us to see how everything was, I had to approach the checkout counter to ask about an eta on our meal; staff responded with a very bad attitude. This establishment needs staff education on customer service!!! There was a table across from us that approached us as they left, 2 ladies, asked us what we thought of the food; all 4 of responded in unison "bad and horrible service" They said they had the same experience. I'm not really sure how this place gets such good reviews. The only good thing about Fannie's was the frozen drinks, they were made very well, BUT took a VERY long time to get to us. We believe the poor service was because of our waitress, we don't know her name because she didn't introduce herself to us. The establishment was very crowded, had plenty of wait staff, all tables around us were getting served, some even came after us and left before us! As we left the establishment, we were approached outside by one of the waitresses, asking us if we had a poor experience, we answered honestly and said it was actually HORRIBLE, she asked who our waitress was, we said we didn't know all we could say was that she had a green Tshirt on; she said she will report this to the manager. Hopefully she will, because if I owned this place I would be extremely upset and embarrassed. We are tourists visiting the area and were given such an attitude and had such a horrible experience. Afterwards, we went to see the Tybee island light house and then had a drink at NorthBeach Bar & Grill, and boy did they have that southern hospitality that we were looking for!! My advice to you, SKIP FANNIE'S and head straight to the lighthouse and then catch some true southern hospitality at NORTHBEACH BAR & GRILL!! Great customer service and wonderful cocktails!!

Food was good! Enjoyed the shrimp and hush puppies. Others in our party had the fried fish and really enjoyed it.

It was a nice day. We were greeted at entering by a young man, he was polite and let us know he had a table leaving shortly and we would only wait a few minutes. He was accurate in the estimate. We were sat with Carol, she was over quickly took our orders and was efficient as well as kind. She offered to bring our kids meals once they were ready which was sweet and helpful. She was great at checking on us and keeping drinks full. We visited around lunch time so it was somewhat busy but still nice. It was family friendly but also somewhat quiet. The food was delivered quickly and correctly. It was all very good. We loved the fries and onion rings. We did think the shrimp boil would've been a little larger portioned but it was still nice. I didn't think the double dog was really worth the price but that's my only complaint. It was a fantastic experience and I would recommend again.

Ask the Community - Fannies On the Beach

Is the upstairs ever open? We wanted to eat there today, upstairs! I've lived here for 5 years and only have been able to eat upstairs a couple times. We were there today. Best view of the beach CLOSED!!!!

It is usually only open Friday & Saturday nights. Used to be open all week during the season. We prefer to eat lunch. LESS crowds, shorter 2sit times, and a smaller bill. 3 wins. Same .food

Are you practicing social distancing to space out guests and requiring masks for guest & employees? Is there outdoor seating in winter months?

Yes they are so we left.

Do they have a limited menu right now? Does anyone have a picture of the limited menu?

Yes but there is still alot to choose from

Is there WiFi to do work?

Yes there is, just ask a waiter/waitress for the wifi password

There are plenty of booths and formica-topped tables with wooden chairs. And there are kind waitresses and waiters who work with incredible energy and efficiency to end your hunger. Arriving on a weekday, we were directed to seat ourselves and within minutes, a waitress came by to get our drink orders. We reviewed the menu heavy on breakfast dishes (and noticed breakfast buffet deal of $13.95 that was offered on weekends that is surely to a big draw). Four of us got pancakes or waffles and one of us got a dish that must have been designed with vegetarians in mind of hash browns smothered in veggies with upcharges for cheese, eggs or breakfast meats. Our food arrived in minutes. The waitress quipped the cooks are fast and they are. The pancakes and the waffles were well received. The ham side ordered by one person was not sliced from a true ham but more like a deli ham. The shredded hash browns would have benefitted from a few more minutes on the flat-top but they were still solid. The veggies on top of the hashbrowns were soon soaked in hot sauce and while the broccoli may have been frozen, everything tasted good mixed together. The downside of Sunrise came in the form of whipped spread (vegetable oil) offered instead of butter and american cheese as the option for the hash brown deluxe dish. Real butter and cheddar cheese would have made a BIG difference in the taste of the pancakes, waffles, toast and the hash brown dish. That is why I gave Sunrise three stars. I would highly encourage the owners to reconsider the decision to use vegetable oil based substitutes for cheese and butter and earn a 4 star review. There are so many things to love about Sunrise. Our meal moved smoothly and the waitress handled a take out order for us that was waiting on the counter when we paid our check. We tipped 25%, remembering the direction from "LIfe's Little Instruction Book" that breakfast was a less expensive meal but the work for waitresses did not change... so always add a little more. We hope you do too!

Tourist trap: an establishment with the aim to attract tourists and their money, and typically providing poor yet overpriced services, entertainment, food, and other products. The first sign of trouble were the styrofoam cups, bowls, and plates, and plastic utensils. If charging $24-46 for "Dinners from the Steamer", there better be a tablecloth and proper tableware. My "Cadillac margarita" was Jose Cuervo and store-bought, bottled mix. The crab stew was gloop without crab meat. The french fries were the least unpleasant thing I had, but didn't come quickly from the under-heated frying oil. My wife's mussels were fresh and, in and of themselves, good, but they were served plain. No delicious Italian-cuisine-inspired tomato-based sauce for you! No baguette slices with whipped butter for you! They came with a single lemon wedge and a 2 oz plastic portion control cup of olive oil, butter and salt. This joint is a gloop-serving tourist trap. Go to Zunzibar instead! I'll post my five star review of Zunzibar soon.

Because this was their first time in Savannah, we couldn't let them leave without a visit to the beach. Although the day was a bit overcast and windy, it was still a nice afternoon and we decided to grab some local fare before heading back to Pooler. Salt Island is a small restaurant located right on the main strip as you turn into the seafront area. There is limited parking in and around the restaurant, but we were lucky because Sunday afternoon was fairly deserted. However, I would imagine that on a busy weekend you would likely need to find creative parking because a lot of the nearby parking seemed to be reserved for home and condominium owners. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating with a sizable bar and plenty of room to entertain larger groups. The menu is fairly simple but packed with a couple of really interesting items that you wouldn't technically expect to find in a beachfront fish house. And while we didn't order any of the more offbeat items, I have to say, seeing Chicken Tinga on the menu was a pleasant surprise. Especially since my in-laws are Mexican. Lol, I actually ordered the whole fried snapper tacos, which was essentially a whole fish fried to perfection but then accompanied with a bounty of authentic Mexican taco fixings including fresh tortillas, Cajita cheese, and fresh salsa and guacamole. The waiter promised I would be the envy of the table, and I was! This thing was so big. I ended up taking some of it home and eating it as a late night fish taco snack. The rest of the table ordered a combination of the fresh fish served any way you like it and the shell on shrimp boil. Both options were also fantastic. They also offer a variety of beers and have a fairly full bar so there's fun to be had here for everyone. Service was also really tight with our waiter making multiple trips to the table to make sure everybody was good. This is definitely a spot I would recommend if you are hanging out at the beach.
