Tony and I went onto Tybee Island for the afternoon! We stopped at the Wind Rose Cafe as our first stop on his Tybee Bar Crawl...but we call it "Hopping" not crawling!! The place was semi dark with not much natural sunlight so it was cool from 95 degree heat from the beach! Tony ordered a PBR in a can and I decided on a Sprite w Lemon & Lime slices! The bartender was very friendly and informative! Definitely recommend to everyone! We stopped here when on the Island! read more

What a gem when visiting Tybee. I have been to Tybee a few times in the past and found this place on the 1st night we got here this year. We are on day 6 of our vacation now and have been back everyday. The food is without a doubt the best on the island. We had the pleasure of meeting James( the cook) and he really takes pride in the food he is turning out..on our first night there they ran out of the beer that we drank but told us they would have it the next day even though the beer truck doesn't run and they came through it was there cold waiting on us. We also met the owners while there and I must say was pleasure to get to know them.. and can't leave out the best bartender during our trip who we referred to as Turbo.. lol..great fun.. everyone needs to try this place just once don't judge a book by its cover just go in and relax and have a great time. read more

I think it's more of a 3.5 star place, but, it was entertaining to sit at the bar... ...Walked in and asked what they had to drink - the bartender asked in return if I had ever been into a bar...I already was starting to think I was going to like this place. After picking the first beer I could see, I was handed a menu and sat back and enjoyed the entertainment. Now, by entertainment, I mean: The bartender giving it to all the local flies at the bar and even the never-been-there's like me. It was a hoot. It was all in good fun and I can't recall the last time I was at a greasy spoon like this where I had such a fun time with the banter. Food-wise, I ordered their fish tacos which were fried and had this chipotle mayo drizzle on it - very good - actually superb as far as bar food goes. Also, the portion was massive - three big chunks of fried fish, drizzled with their sauce, and with a heaping supply of fries. I could barely finish the tacos and hardly made a dent in the fries. This is the kinda place to come back with a squad, hopefully I'll get that chance in the fuutre. read more

Located about a half block from the Tybee Island fishing pier, this bar is a in a very convenient location with great prices for its bar food. It seems to be loved by the locals, as the host welcomed everyone by name as they entered. I ordered the Friday lunch special of fried flounder along with my two side item choices of french fries and potato salad. The special also included Texas toast and sweet tea for fewer than nine dollars. A great deal in my opinion. There is also a full menu available if you prefer. The food arrived approximately ten minutes later and was hot and tasty. I would rank the lunch special in my top two spots as far as bar good in concerned. The host was very attentive and I made new friends while I was there. I enjoyed the atmosphere and food and will return soon. read more

This is a cool place, with a great bartender- we had a lot of fun chatting and ended up spending some time in there- had a little shrimp dish and the cook did well! This is my review, and it has been for a long time. I lived on Tybee for about 6 years, so I became familiar, happily. I got to know a lot about a lot, socially. The people are all heart, and I am forever a part. When I found my way into the "Wind Rose" I found Doug (or Duggie as I call him), spinning Classic Rock. I enjoyed myself so that we talked and talked about music. I finally asked, and Doug said he had enough music in his library, at that time, to start it and let it play, and it would for about a year and a half. Did I doubt him? Why? That was 2012. Last I went to Duggie's school of music, he had approximately 2-1/2 years in his library. That was 2018. Personally, I enjoy my time with Duggie. Doug however has a professional music background. I would rather he tell you what it is, but he wasn't born yesterday. He and the "Wind Rose" is Tybee Island's "Home of Classic Rock" thanks to Duggie!! I was skeptical to go in because of the mention of smoke in other reviews, but it wasn't too bad (only a few other people were in the bar though.) The bar tender was very friendly. We got our lunch to go and were pleasantly surprised. It was very reasonably priced and better than we expected. The fried chicken was a bit dry, but it was very crispy. Like this place a lot. Only five beers on tap including Fat Tire and Sam Adams Seasonal. Served in ice cold mugs. Decor is definitely dive bar. Bar has about sixteen stools. Three four tops, three six tops with mismatched table covers. Good burgers - cooked as ordered, good commercial grade fries - also cooked properly, excellent homemade potato salad. Plus it's cheap. Two burgers and three beers came to under $25. Service was fast and friendly. Worth a try. read more

A local favorite. You'd be shocked at how good the food is and I've tried everything. The specials are always where it's at. I love the navy bean soup and grilled cheese on a rainy day. Their patty melt is always good too. One year they had corned beef during St Patrick's and I've craved it ever since. The drink prices are amazing, the bartenders are amazing, and the community of this bar is amazing (walking dead watching parties, chili cook offs etc). First off, the four stars are based on the food and not the appearance of the place (which is why we are here anyway). We walked up from the beach to grab some food for everyone in our crowd. Not the most appealing looking place but the food was great. The owners are a fishing/bar owning couple, they recommended to fish that they caught themselves, so we couldn't pass it up. We had flounder sandwich, fish tacos (which were pretty awesome), chicken sandwich (which was fresh and hand-breaded), and a few more things. The fries and onion rings were frozen, but those things are just filler anyway. I'm sure we will be back in the next few days. BTW go in and have a beer while you wait, big $3 Sam Adams are hard to beat. read more

You asked for a place where the locals go; you got it. Seemingly like a watering hole for the biker crowd, it's a dark and coarse bar with some four-top tables and a minimalist bandstand. The astonishing upside is you'll find better food and drink for the price than practically any place on Tybee, even on River Street in Savannah. The fried shrimp were nearly the best we had on our entire trip. They tasted fresh and were delicately prepared in a light batter. The fish sandwich was comprised of a generous piece of fried flounder, considerably lengthier than the bun. Lettuce, tomato and onion, all included. Very good crinkle-cut fries. The only thing I passed on was the coleslaw. It had an overwhelming amount of mayonnaise and this resulted in its only identifiable flavor. Way less mayo, more vinegar, cabbage, onion, carrots and spices should accomplish the fix. Also noteworthy was the homemade potato salad and a unique, dill based tarter sauce to accompany the seafood items. A big drawback is that "lighting up" is permitted, at least at the bar. If there's any consolation, the ceiling fans are strategically placed, helping to redirect and dissipate the smoke. Wind Rose Café is an excellent value, factoring in all the good food and potent drinks. Don't miss their happy hour and don't be intimidated by the atmosphere and decor. There's nothing to fear that a good meal there won't remedy. We plan on returning to the Wind Rose Cafe on every visit. read more

The food here is good and drinks are cheap, but unfortunately this is one of those places that is ruined by regulars. We've been in a few times and on every occasion, every other person in the bar has felt the need to insert themselves into our conversation and intrude in our business. I have been a Yelp lurker for years and this place was foul enough to bring me out of my shell for my first review. Sign out front said "voted best diner six years in a row". Must have been back in the 50s when this happened because there are better places to eat all over Tybee now. Some specifics: This place is not-passing-health-inspection filthy. Menu is mostly fried crap. Fries, o-rings, shrimp, clams, whatever. Place was hot enough we were sweating. Cruddy ceiling fan above our table didn't work. Waitress brought out a box fan that was covered in black greasy dirt and lint. Luckily this fan also didn't work so we avoid being showered in filth. Food is prepared behind a closet door. Based on the condition of the bar, I'm the food prep area must also be foul. If you do eat here (and you shouldn't), order something fried and don't eat the cole slaw. read more

Overall, I liked this place, but calling it a cafe is a bit misleading. At best, you could consider it a sports bar. The food is typical bar food [mostly fried, burgers, etc] with a reasonable selection of seafood items. I've had the fried whiting plate as well as the carolina burger and both were good with some cold beer. The potato salad is some of the best I've had. I was a little disappointed they stopped serving newcastle, but they have a good selection of local beers to make up for it. If you don't mind smoking [good ventilation, so not too bad] and a few locals at the bar [can get a lil' rowdy at times], then this is a nice little spot for some good food and beer to watch the game. read more

My husband and I make it a point to eat here whenever we visit Tybee. The food is always good. We especially like the potato salad, burgers, and seafood sandwiches. This is a throwback with a twist. Great home cooked food with daily specials and a nice menu. My husband loved the fried chicken. Local gossip at the bar,city employees and construction workers. Our waitress was also the publisher of island's only gossip/news magazine. Inside the Resturant is a library, you do not have to buy or return the books. Locals drop them off. I rather enjoyed this local Bar & Grill atmosphere. I relocated to Savannah from South Texas and happened onto this place while shopping and getting to know the layout of Tybee Island. The beer was cold, the bartender made me feel like a "regular" and my snack before I drove home "hit the spot." I could make this my "watering-hole!"
