First time visiting Tybee Island, GA a friend suggested that we try Spanky's restaurant, the Tybee Island location. Spanky's is walking distance to the Tybee Pier & Pavilion. There's beach parking so it can get busy depending on the day/time you get there. We enjoyed 1lb of steamed shrimp and a basket of Boom Boom shrimp. The seafood was very fresh and delicious. The service was good and our food came out pretty quickly once we sat down. Give this place a try next time you're visiting the Savannah, GA it's only a 30 minute drive to the island. I would not recommend dining here. There's no way there's not something better around. Unfortunately much like anything else though, very overpriced. It would have been less irritating to pay the money if we didn't have to wait an hour for our food and if our waitress was a bit more competent and actually asking helpful questions like ... how are we dividing these bills? how is everything tasting or going? hey can I get you a refill? etc. The communication was awful and not worth it. The $9.00 mandatory tip included in our bill was the cherry on top for me. I usually tip $10-$20, however, I match my tip with the service when needed as well and $9.00 wasn't it today. I wish our waitress would have had more interest in her job and was just more personable and competent. The food was not bad but also really no different than anywhere else. The biggest difference is you may receive it faster there and may even get asked if you'd like a refill.. or if you need anything.. I'm really not a picky person, very adaptable actually and understanding but when I'm paying an arm and a leg for something and there's an added expectation of an expense, I respectfully would like you to at least meet me half way. read more

I would've given this place five stars, but it did actually end up losing one because we did go twice and my second meal just did not live up to my first one. that being said the first meal I got was the mahi-mahi sandwich. It was amazing. I got it grilled perfectly seasoned and the fries obviously just like regular basic crinkle cut fries, but they were still good and I got a side of blue cheese to dip them in delicious. I didn't love their tartar sauce because it's less tart and more sweet, which I just don't think is normal. Usually when I get a tartar sauce it's tart. now they are known for their spuds and I will say to try them they're quite good definitely get them. Don't be scared. We also tried the crab dip in our first meal very cream cheese heavy but it is good and you do get some bits of real crab in there. We ate it with bread and tortilla chips. I'm sure the pitas are good as well. Now this is where it goes wrong in our second meal I got the fish and chips, and it was not good and it actually did end up hurting my stomach. The cod was very clearly frozen and lack luster. The breading was not crispy and they gave me very little malt vinegar when I asked for it again, tartar sauce, oddly sweet, but other than that, our service was great both times we had the same waitress and the host both times was the same guy. He was very nice and overall the place is really cute. They have some really cute stained glass, beachy decorations would recommend just don't get the fish and chips maybe. read more

If you have to eat, they serve food. They have a unique twist on French fries and they get a thumbs up for that.

My wife and I were strolling around Tybee Island today and decided to stop in at Spanky's for lunch. It was only about 12:30pm so the place wasn't too busy yet and we were seated immediately by the friendly hostess. Our server stopped by a minute or two later and took our drink orders as we perused the menu. At the server's suggestion, my wife ordered a mixed frozen drink consisting of half frozen pina colada and half strawberry daiquiri. It was quite good and reasonably priced given the beachside location at only $11. I ordered a draft Yuengling, also very reasonably priced at only $5.50. For our meals, I ordered a veggie wrap ($13.50) and my wife ordered the crab cake sandwich ($16.00). Both entrees came with french fries. (More on that later.) The crab cake sandwich was listed on a special menu titled "Todays (sic) Specials" and was described as "Our signature crabcake sandwich, loaded with lump and claw crab, not fillers. Roasted red peppers and a touch of jalapeno." It sounded great so my wife ordered it even though she is gluten intolerant and wouldn't be able to eat the bun. Unfortunately, she found the crab cake itself to be a disappointment, pronouncing it only "so-so." We had both been in Baltimore just last week and she had excellent crab cakes while there and was hoping for something similar. Alas, that was not to be the case. I had no such concerns or issues with my veggie wrap. It was filled with grilled zucchini, squash, red pepper, shredded lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, and onion. (It normally includes cheese as well, but since my diet is completely plant-based, I asked for it to be left out.) My wrap was delicious and I would definitely order it again. The one major disappointment with my order was that the fries were limp and cold. This was also true for the fries served with my wife's crab cake sandwich. I called the server over and she said that she'd get us fresh orders of fries. The way she said it so matter-of-factly led me to believe that this wasn't the first time she'd heard that complaint. It took awhile, but our server returned with a basket of freshly made, hot french fries. Unfortunately, by the time she returned with them, my wife and I had both finished our entrees. So, in effect, the fries sort of ended up being our dessert, lol. Even so, they were delicious. This was our first time eating at a beachfront restaurant on Tybee Island, so I really don't have anything with which to compare our dining experience. If we were in Savannah proper, for example, I most likely would not go out of my way to eat at Spanky's. However, as a beachfront restaurant, I think it is quite adequate and I would have no qualms about returning. Although I know my wife would definitely skip the crab cake read more
