1lb of steamed shrimp at Spanky's Tybee Island, GA
Olga M.

First time visiting Tybee Island, GA a friend suggested that we try Spanky's restaurant, the Tybee Island location. Spanky's is walking distance to the Tybee Pier & Pavilion. There's beach parking so it can get busy depending on the day/time you get there. We enjoyed 1lb of steamed shrimp and a basket of Boom Boom shrimp. The seafood was very fresh and delicious. The service was good and our food came out pretty quickly once we sat down. Give this place a try next time you're visiting the Savannah, GA it's only a 30 minute drive to the island. Happy Yelping :)

Chicken Fingers sauced with chicken wing sauce. Served with house style fries. The house made ranch was spot on.

Known for its chicken fingers, so we split the 8 piece chicken finger basket. We had it served with fries and a chicken wing sauce. Food was great. Service was fine. Ambiance was appropriately beachey. Our server Jordan was perfect.

It's pretty rare we find a place that 6 people are all okay with eating at. On vacation we decided to stop in and try it out after seeing their menu online. Inside was fun and clean, loved all the funny shirts hung up all over the place. Food was pretty good and not too expensive, the only thing is I don't recommend the fries, bland and nothing special. But service was quick and waiter was very helpful and kind!

Overall 4/5: Love some fried shrimp when i'm by the water. Had to stop in on this short trip we had to savannah. Drinks 4/5: I had a slushee cocktail it was sweet and was great for how hot it was that day. Perfect end to our trip. Food 4/5: I enjoyed the fried pickles, and the shrimp seafood basket. The sauces they all paired with were good. The food hit for my cravings. Service 3/5: It was fine. Thank you, Spanky's Beachside.

I would've given this place five stars, but it did actually end up losing one because we did go twice and my second meal just did not live up to my first one. that being said the first meal I got was the mahi-mahi sandwich. It was amazing. I got it grilled perfectly seasoned and the fries obviously just like regular basic crinkle cut fries, but they were still good and I got a side of blue cheese to dip them in delicious. I didn't love their tartar sauce because it's less tart and more sweet, which I just don't think is normal. Usually when I get a tartar sauce it's tart. now they are known for their spuds and I will say to try them they're quite good definitely get them. Don't be scared. We also tried the crab dip in our first meal very cream cheese heavy but it is good and you do get some bits of real crab in there. We ate it with bread and tortilla chips. I'm sure the pitas are good as well. Now this is where it goes wrong in our second meal I got the fish and chips, and it was not good and it actually did end up hurting my stomach. The cod was very clearly frozen and lack luster. The breading was not crispy and they gave me very little malt vinegar when I asked for it again, tartar sauce, oddly sweet, but other than that, our service was great both times we had the same waitress and the host both times was the same guy. He was very nice and overall the place is really cute. They have some really cute stained glass, beachy decorations would recommend just don't get the fish and chips maybe.

Some kind of bisque or seafood soup- amazing, but served in styrofoam bowl took away from the experience.

Great food ok service. I came from Denver Colorado so it was nice to be near the beach but the vibe is very off when I get in there.

We loved our server and the pizza! It's a HUGE pizza for $20 (do that instead of the individual…read moreslice if you're with a group, more bang for your buck!). Best pizza I've had in a hot minute- especially the sauce! The outside was hot but not as dingy as the inside space.

I am so torn about how to rate this definite dive bar. On one hand the pizza was pretty incredible-…read moreyou can order a "slice" literally any way you want with ANY toppings or even gluten free, vegan without cheese, etc. and it is made to order. I put slice in quotes because what we got was more like 2.5 traditional triangle slices - a huge portion for $6. Pretty amazing and honestly the pizza was top notch thin crust pizza. Delicious. 5 stars. On the other hand the place is so gross - the filth is visible everywhere. They have dollar bills stapled to the walls - that's a vibe I've seen other places as well - but some of the bills were so caked in grime you couldn't tell what denominations they were. And that was just on the walls. The bar itself is made of concrete - like a super thick sidewalk. Now imagine that sidewalk with grime and grease on it. The only way to clean it would be to hose it down - but obviously that's not possible inside. They have what was once a leather sofa in front of one of the TVs in the place but it is shredded and so torn I can only imagine how drunk a person would need to be to sit there. The chairs were also torn and worn. 0 stars. The service was ... interesting. The bartenders are super friendly and very chill - but they were way too familiar and they dropped the f-bomb more than once as we ordered. From the kitchen you can hear streams of cursing and people wandering in and out - like there was a party going on in the kitchen, which makes me wonder about how safely the food was handled. We also didn't really have one server - just whoever was walking by took our drink order then another our food order and someone else brought it out and someone else checked in on us. 1.5 stars. Next, a customer brought their small dog inside the bar - clearly not a service animal. One of the men who looked like maybe a manager picked the dog up and walked around with it saying hello to what seemed to be lots of regulars. Then I saw him walk behind the bar and fix a drink - no hand washing in sight. [shudder] 0 stars. I saw a woman there with a grade school aged child in a school uniform doing her homework at one of the tables. That's not something you see everyday at a dive bar. Clearly the place has its local fans. Drinks are served in clear plastic cups. I think that's so you can take them with you to wander around outside. There's a bunch of cute little boutique shops in the same area. 3 stars. Anyway ... I don't think I'd go back to eat there - even at the outside seating area. I'd probably order pizza to go and send my husband so I wouldn't feel like I needed a shower after walking inside.

Don't let the outside fool you. It did me last year, but this year we went ahead and tried it…read more Sundae Cafe is wedged between a liquor store and a convenience store, this is apparently a thing on Tybee island. What you find inside is a nicely appointed restaurant with a beautiful long bar which we highly recommend you eat at. Our bartender Christy was amazing. But more about her later, right now I will talk about the food. We started with the margarita scallops, which was chunks of seared scallops soaked in margarita on toasted wonton chips with a black bean corn, salsa and drizzle with a local aioli, YUM! We also had their fried green tomatoes, which came with apricot horseradish sauce and aoli. Kiki had the catch of the day, which was a grilled piece of grouper atop mediterranean couscous and a medley of mediterranean vegetables. I had the prime rib, which came with lobster Chili Churri butter and a brandy peppercorn sauce. Both entrees were amazing. Now back to our bartender Christie. To say that she wears many hats is an understatement. She greeted us when we sat at the bar, by the way, did I mention that you can reserve seats at the bar? She described the menu items in a way that you only expect to find from a waiter in the finest restaurants in the world. She addressed any and all allergy issues relating to these dishes all the while she is making drinks for patrons at the bar as well as handling the service bar for all the patrons in the restaurant. Without missing a beat, she takes our order.Buses plates from other customers and continues to make drinks for everybody in the restaurant. At this point I think I told her her new nickname should be the Flash. At one point during our dinner, we saw her serve a bottle of wine to another couple at the end of the bar. Her presentation was that of a full wine sommelier with pouring a taste for approval while showing the label of the bottle as she waited for the customers approval then pouring the glasses after approval was given. List of hats: Bartender Bar Back Waiter Sommelier Entertainer Influencer to a new generation of food service, people on Tybee island. ( She babysat the owner of Bubba Gumbo's.) Lest I forget she is also the General Manager of the restaurant. She is someone that I would like to call friend after meeting her once and eating at her restaurant only once.

Started with some bread, a scallop appetizer and salad which was pretty good. Our main dishes are spectacular, the flavors are amazing, best prime rib I have ever had, complements to the chef's. For dessert we had Banana pudding cheese cake. Melissa our waitress was excellent, knew her specials, friendly and professional kept up with us and made sure we had what we needed. The atmosphere is great, not a large dining room but it is a beautiful restaurant. The only thing when at capacity it is loud, so it is at times hard to hear your own conversation.
