This place was recommended to me so I decided to check it out. I was interested in renting my wedding dress because buying a dress didn't seem feasible. I'm pretty sure my 5 month old would want to pick out her own dress when she gets older. My appointment was scheduled for 5/28 at 2pm. I called to see if I could move the time up since my fiancé was going to drive me and he wanted to beat traffic. I spoke to Diane and asked if I could come in for 10am. Keep in mind I didn't know the hours of the place. She automatically said no. There was no explanation but rather a curt no. I asked her why and she told me they don't open until 12pm. It would've been nice if Diane would've led with that. I asked to move the appointment to 12pm and she told me someone took that slot already. Ultimately, my appointment was moved to 1pm. I don't think appointments are honored because there was a group of people there while I was patiently waiting to try on dresses. Automatically Diane gave me a catalog to look at. She turned to the "plus size" section which didn't offer much of a selection. I flipped through the 15 pages or so and I finally found a dress on the last page. I waited 21 mins to be measured by Margaret. She didn't introduce herself but just started measuring me outside the fitting room. Diane then looked at the catalog to see which dress I selected and she told me it doesn't come in my size. I explained to her you don't offer much for curvy women and I was only able to find one dress in the catalog to my liking. Margaret said she can find me similar dresses. I told her that I want a mermaid dress with bling. The first dress I tried on was a no-no. The second dress I instantly fell in love with prior to trying it on. It fit perfectly. Customer service can definitely be improved. Although we were off to a rocky start they redeemed themselves throughout my visits. I found my prefect dress and called every store in the five boroughs (that carry the particular brand) to inquire about the price of the gown and alteration fees. After calling 30+ places, I found Fancy Wedding. Their prices are competitive and their service is impeccable. My alterations were wonderful and my gown fit like a glove. Just beautiful. This review is long over due but I think it's important to share so others won't go through the same thing. First off, I came here to order a bridal gown I saw online and this location had the dress as per what I was told on the phone. Got there and they didn't have the dress or any dresses by that designer. I was told I could order it but they weren't sure it won't get there in time to do alterations. I came several months before the wedding so I wasn't sure why it would take that long. (Keep reading to find out why it takes so long) I asked to try on some dresses since I had an appointment but they didn't have anything in my size. They carry very small sizes here so if you got curves or plus size maybe it's not the place. They made me feel like there was something wrong with my weight and made me feel ugly. They put a tight dress on me and basically made me look like a clown. I told them I was losing weight and they made it seen like there was no way I would by then. They also try to make you buy the dress and fail to mention you have the option to rent it too. They don't want you to rent the dress but YES you can do that if you wish. Fast forward to my first fitting. I lost 30 lbs and they couldn't belive it. They had to do so much altercations and charged me over $100 for this. They also tried to sell me all sorts of accessories, veils, shoes you name it. I already had this since I found beautiful ones on ETSY. I wore the jewelry I planned to wear to this fitting and the lady told me it looked cheap! I laughed at how unprofessional they all were to say that to their customer. Class and respect cannot be bought. They pretty much ruined this happy mother daughter bridal moment I planned to have that day. After all this I realized they ordered the dress from China which looked one way on paper and another in person. I didnt let this ruin my wedding because I felt beautiful and its about how you feel internally which exudes externally. The experience I see women go through during this process is not what I experienced using their services. They were insensitive and money hungry. When I picked up my dress the owner gave me a few business cards and told me to tell all my friends and family about their business. I did, I told them to go elsewhere. read more

So from the YELP reviews I read before visiting, I didn't realize that the dresses were knockoffs. The salon is small, well organized and clean. The two women are polite and helpful. So I felt uncomfortable at having to kindly decline to try on other dresses after the first two were not the materials I was looking for. This is a good place for women who want to rent dresses, since their prices start at $200. Their designs are very similar to the desired trends, or styles pictured in the book you look through, but the fabrics, were of a less-than-desirable quality. It just wasn't for me. read more

These two women saved my wedding. After the bridal boutique I purchased my wedding gown from butchered my dress days before my wedding I was desperate and stressed out beyond belief. I walked into this store with an hour notice and found the perfect dress. These two women took such great care of me, and prepped my dress for use (bust alteration etc) in JUST ONE DAY!!!! I absolutely loved my visit to Fancy Wedding Center! Just make sure you make an appointment and call if you're going to be late. The store is stocked with what appeared to be only wedding dresses. The staff was very polite and knowledgeable. Margaret has been in the business for over 30 years and her expertise is evident. They carry the newest dresses and have them on site for you to try on. There was no searching through racks and racks of dresses, everything was in a catalog and Margaret pulled the ones you selected. You are only allowed to try on 4 dresses during your scheduled visit. As with most bridal stores, no pictures or videos are allowed. They were very organized, pleasant and easy to work with. read more

*no walk ins taken at this shop* I didn't come here to look for a dress. I only came to alter a dress I wore for pictures before my ceremony. The seamstress was very honest and quoted me decent prices for the alterations needed. The owner was standing in the background making expressions following each quote the seamstress gave me. After the final quote, the owner tried to tack on a cleaning fee to which the seamstress assured I wouldn't need. (1- my dress was only for pics, 2- the material of my dress did not need steaming). After I changed back, I came out to pay and find that the owner added an extra 20$ to the final quote. Only after I asked what it was for did she tell me it's because there is more work than expected. The alterations were ok. It was half the price of what I paid for my other dress at rkbridal but the result reflects the price. I would suggest this place for alterations on bridesmaid dresses but somewhere more experienced for wedding gowns. read more

For a place to rent wedding dresses, I expected the prices to be a lot more affordable. Instead, prices can range from $600 to thousands. In my opinion, the price of renting is about the same as buying a brand new dress or buying a used super expensive (ie Vera wang) from another bride. They were polite, but I wouldn't say that they were very nice. While the inside of the store looks nice, I can't help but feel bad for people who think renting a dress at $600 (the cheaper end) is worth it. I have personally went to China, because I considered having a custom dress made there. The price they charge is the same as buying a custom dress from china, and I'm sure they buy dresses from china for much cheaper. However, since you paid for the rental, you don't get to keep the dress like you would if you had directly bought it from china yourself. I know not everyone can exactly afford to go to china, but there are websites that do make custom wedding dresses (successfully) for the same or less money. I personally would rather spend $600 on a preowned Vera Wang that someone wore once and keep the dress than "rent" a dress for that much money. Also, they do not take walk-ins. They let me look, but would not let me try on anything (not that I wanted to after hearing the high cost of rental) I hope this review helps brides with a real budget. read more

I didn't feel welcomed at all! One of the Chinese ladies met us with a mean face told us to sit down n gave us a folder with pictures. Then they started talking in Chinese to each other and looking at us, then they both basically yelled at me because I took some pictures I liked out of the catalog like I destroyed it or somethings when they are easily can be put back. They continued talking in Chinese. I got very upset and this is not how a bride should feel. They were nice to a Chinese girl who was returning her dress. I decided not to try on dresses and go to a different place because I want to feel welcomed and not listen to Chinese the whole time I'm there. If I could give them zero stars I would. They have a website where I booked an appointment today for my friend at 11 AM to see dresses. I get there and the gates are down to only see a sign that says they are closed on Mondays. I called the phone number and a woman answers I explain to her what happened and she tells me that they are closed on Mondays and not to use the website to book appointments, that they only make appointments by phone. How come this does not state anywhere on their website that it's only done by phone? Also their website should have a note saying please do not book an appointment here only call us by phone. And if you are not doing appointments from your website why is there an option to book an appointment from your website? Is this how you run a business? This is pathetic and sad on your part. I own a business and if I make an appointment you better believe it that I will be there to meet my client. What if I commuted to you from Long Island or something to only be introduced to an ugly metal gate!??? Anyway thank God I could see through your gate and see what you have in stock, I was not impressed since it's only one row of dresses on the left side of the wall. Doesn't look like you have too much, also everything looks like it's polyester blend and cheap anyway. I came to the shop almost a year ago to rent a gown for a February wedding... long story short I found out that I was pregnant and they allowed me to change the date at no additional cost. As far as finances, they are willing to work with you. I received a reasonable price for my rental gown and head piece. Typically they work by appointments but if you are in the neighborhood you can walk in. Hands down i would recommend them for rentals. They have an on site, stocked inventory with the latest dresses by reputable designers. read more

Where do I begin? I went back and forth on whether I wanted to have a church wedding or if I wanted to go to the JOP. I decided to do a church wedding a month or two before my wedding date. I searched high and low for a dress within my budget and had a hard time finding anything. A friend of mine suggested that I rent a gown and I told her she was nuts!! I recently went here with a friend who wanted to try on wedding gowns. We arrived 30 minutes late as it took longer than expected to get there. The lady was incredibly rude when we got there about us being late, even though we were the only customers in the store. She refused to let her try on more than 4 dresses even though we traveled over 2 hours to get here. We also wanted to try on accessories and she wouldn't let us until we picked dresses. I have never been to a bridal establishment that was so rude to it's customers and in such a rush to move us out of the store. They also told me friend that she needed to lose weight!! What a fraud!!!! Think twice before you settle for fancy wedding center. I was looking for a ballgown mori lee dress and since they told me they have it I thought do give them a chance. When I got there they told me the dress was already rented and I can wait until it is returned in exchange for a 100$ down payment. In case I was to change my mind and not want the dress than I can use my money to buy a veil or a tiara. Everything went smoothly until I saw the dress... IT DIDN`T LOOK LIKE THE DRESS FROM THE PICTURE they didn`t have the audacity to tell me prior that they removed the lace and the first tulle layer from the skirt. They told me they made these changes because they thought it looked better but as far as I know it`s up to the customer to make changes. However looking at the texture and everything I think this was a poor cheap copy of the original dress. After I told them I don`t want the dress they changed their mind about using my down payment money for something else. I lost the money but in the end I found my gown at RK Bridal unaltered and cheaper. Fancy wedding center was selling the dress for 1400$ and RK sells it for 980$. Not only they over charge the wedding gowns, but their prices for underskirts and tiaras are ludicrous. For instance under skirt at FWC - 99$ u can find the same on amazon for 27$ and for tiaras they charge 200$ and u can find the same thing on amazon for 30$ or less. Yes, finally a bride - you encounter new and unexpected type of problems. One of them is wedding gown alterations that turn out to be pretty costly in Manhattan area. I have purchased a dress at RK bridal and had the alterations performed at Fancy Wedding Center. There are several remarkable advantages that include a friendly and clean place with a fast service performed in a timely manner in an affordable price. I have paid 160$ for fitting the dress that was two sizes bigger than I needed. Also, when I got late to the fitting appointment, I was let in and still had a friendly attitude. The downside was the quality of work that was OK but definitely not perfect. I had hard time to explain the seamstress the way I wanted to adjust the dress and eventually picked up the dress when was not completely satisfied. This was the first place I went to try on wedding dresses. I made the appointment after calling and finding out that they carried the certain dress I was looking for. I advised the style number and color and they said they had it. I came in with my mom, my maid of honor and my three sisters (whom traveled from NJ to be there). After taking me in with the dress that they only had in ivory, not a big deal, I came out to the oooh and ahhh's of my family. Before I knew it she asked me to go back in to the room and try something else on. I was advised that if you have an appointment you can only try on three dresses. I was never told this from the start and might not have chosen to come here if so. Since I was one dress down I was very sad. I hadn't had time to look but my family had picked a few. After telling them that three out of the four dresses they picked were bought already (but still hanging on the racks in the show room) and I couldn't try them on, I tried the second one on and came out to which they all hated it. The women was rushing so fast because "she had another appointment", my appointment was at 12, it was only 12:10 at this point, so I just told her to pick a similar style just to get it over with. To shorten the story, I was on the sidewalk in front of the store by 12:15 not knowing what really just happened. They took enough time to try and sell me on doing my hair and make up and dress all there and showing me bridesmaids book but could care less about me really enjoying the wedding gown experience. To save the day and not making it a waste for my sisters travels, my maid of honor got us into David's Bridal just to not destroy the day. Against my better judgment I agree and had a WONDERFUL experience to my surprise. This store was pretty, clean, quite and the people were friendly but I would not recommend anyone to come here unless they change their personal policies in treating the bride like a bride and not like just another customer in line read more
