Susan and her team were amazing! Two weeks before her wedding, my daughter sobbed in the fitting room of a tailor's shop. Her beautiful dress looked all wrong. Some of the problems were obvious and others were hard to pinpoint, but the effect was a mishmash. My daughter called Susan and after several reassuring texts, made an appointment to come into The Wedding Dresser. From the get-go Susan understood what was wrong & how to fix it. Her team went to work. The dress was how it should have been - masterful work, a talented team, and able to pull it all off in record time! read more

The owner of The Wedding Dresser, charges high prices for reasons I cannot comprehend. I brought my dress to Susan and agreed to pay her $1600 for quite a few alterations. I asked to stop the alterations because I could not afford to move forward. Susan said no problem and that the hem was done. When I picked up my dress, the hem was not finished, only the inner layers of the dress had been hemmed and they'd been hemmed WRONG! They were ascending rather than descending. This incorrect hem cost me $750 (1/2 of the total which is very high pricing!) but because I did not have an itemized receipt (though I asked for one) that price shocked me. The top layer was the shortest and they got longer from there so they were ascending rather than descending which is not how I brought the dress in or how wedding dresses are supposed to be hemmed. I called Susan, assuming it had to be a mistake, but she refused to fix her mistake. I found a seamstress to complete all alterations for 1/8 of the price. Susan had google remove my review threatening to sue me for defamation and extortion but I don't want her money, nor did I ever threaten her or lie. I just don't want others to have the experience I had. Google is biased and sides with business often. Customer service is all I ever asked for and wanted, a simple apology, any kind of offer to adjust the incorrect hem would have been more than enough. read more

I reached out to them to get a $650 dress slightly adjusted and hemmed. This was not a complicated alteration as I as assured by the professional I ended up hiring (about 2h of work). Susan quoted me over $1200 for this adjustment, and when I said this was more expensive than my dress cost, I received the most unprofessional and rude response and was quite taken aback. "Yes, we pay humans who live and eat and pay rent in the United States, which is very different from the people who made your dress so it is usual that for dresses under $1000 alterations cost more than the dress. Good luck with your hunt." They don't know where I got my dress from, and I'm also someone living in NYC and doing my best. I think people are allowed to charge what they want or think their skill is worth, but I also think the wedding industry has lost their minds. I found an independent professional who did a beautiful job and charged a fair price. I have other dresses to be adjusted until my big day, and had considered saving them if I needed help for my main dress which will be more expensive, but based on this rude and entitled response, I already know to never go back to this business again. read more

Long story short, the bridal shop I ordered my dress from in Korea sent me the wrong bride's dress (I'm a size 2 and they sent me a size 10) and had to put in a rush order with the designer to create a brand new dress for me. Less than a month before my wedding, I still didn't have my wedding dress in hand. I was in full panic mode because I didn't know 1) was my new dress going to arrive on time? 2) was my new dress going to fit me? 3) was my new dress going to require alterations? 4) would the alterations be completed in time?? There were so many unknowns. But thanks to my wedding planner's recommendation, I found the Wedding Dresser, and reached out to Susan. Her response was "Yes, it's totally possible for us to alter the dress for you on a shortened timeline. We got you" and I already felt a huge sense of relief. THANK GOD my new dress did arrive in time, 3 weeks before my wedding, and I was able to book an appt with the Wedding Dresser right away. And in exactly 2 weeks from my first appointment, Susan and her team made my dress fit me PERFECTLY. They worked their magic to make sure... - I can actually lift my arms up and hug my husband! LOL (Previously, I couldn't lift my arms up beyond a few inches) - The length of the dress was perfect. (I didn't bustle my dress but it required hemming in the front) - I could breathe in my dress without it suffocating me (The new dress did fit me, but I didn't think I could stay in it for hours because it was so tight. They removed the inner corset and did some other things to add some extra breathing room for me and it was a lifesaver!) At every single appointment, I felt so well taken care of by everyone. Ashley, Gala, Tran, Filbert, and Susan were all so wonderful, and I appreciated how it felt like we were part of a team with one goal in mind: making me look & feel like the most beautiful bride ever. We actively brainstormed things together (e.g. should I pin the front crease of my dress? should I not? should I wear my hair down? or up? should I bustle my dress? or not?) I genuinely enjoyed spending time there because everyone is so wonderful. And honestly, I could not be more grateful to The Wedding Dresser for helping me wear my dream wedding dress on my special day. Thank you Susan and team!! read more

Susan and her team (especially Aqua) were amazing to work with! I wanted to wear my mother's wedding dress for my own wedding, but beyond just resizing the dress, I wanted to make some significant alterations to make it more modern and fitting to my style. Susan and Aqua listened closely to what I wanted, made helpful suggestions on what was possible and what would look best, and helped transform the dress into something that was truly beautiful and unique to me. I also appreciated that since I don't get married every day, they had helpful suggestions for what accessories to wear, what was typical or in style, etc. Would highly recommend them if you're looking to alter a vintage dress and get a beautiful result!! read more

About 2 months ago, I walked into the Wedding Dresser in Industry City with my wedding dress in hand, not knowing what to expect. I was immediately greeted by Tressa, the manager. Tressa helped set up my initial appointment as well as my 3 additional appointments leading up to my big day. As I unzipped my 2 piece Carol Hannah original wedding dress from its carrier, I was pleasantly greeted by head seamstress Aqua LoPresti. Within my initial appointment, it became so clear that Aqua is a master of her craft. They demonstrated an impressive range of skills including altering the corset, which was full of boning. Aqua made me feel so comfortable, heard, and seen with her magical-positive presence. Aqua, your passion and purpose really shined through to me with each appointment. The owner Susan definitely knows how to curate an experience. I chose these candid shots of my wedding dress to upload to show how the artistry of Susan and her team, specifically Aqua for tailoring my wedding dress to fit me perfectly. I am a 40-DD. Aqua crafted my Carol Hannah corset and linen skirt to fit my body. I could dance and move around with ease and with confidence knowing that there would be no slips. I highly recommend the Wedding Dresser for all your alteration needs, especially for mid-size and plus-size women. I can't wait to take my wedding skirt back to them so they can alter it again to make it an everyday skirt to wear. Thank you Wedding Dresser. read more

While Susan does have a specific style of working, her team is absolutely fantastic. Indigo + Emily did a fabulous job on a dress that pretty much had to be remade. They were so warm and diligent - made me so excited about the garment I had chosen (even though it was extremely hard work) and I was able to pick their brain about other wedding related stuff. Susan seems to run a very tight ship, but her team rolls with it and knocks the socks off alterations! read more

I have been really stressed about my wedding so one of my friends found this business online and sent me a link. Last night I made an appointment with Susan, the owner of the Wedding Dresser, and today we met on Zoom. Susan and I ended up chatting for an HOUR. I'm definitely a "no frills" bride, I hardly even want to spend any money on a dress, let alone hundreds of dollars. But we've invited so many people to our wedding that there will be 100+ guests. Susan helped calm me down and explained how to shop for wedding dresses online, she even found one for me at Dillard's for $75, and explained that I can come into their shop for tailoring/accessories once I have a dress. I feel finally in control of my wedding and not so afraid! read more

Honestly I would give this place zero stars if I could. Where do I start? I waited close to 40 minutes over for them to take me. When Susan took me, she quickly rushed me from consultation to fitting before I had a chance to process that she was quoting me almost 1200 on my 1500 dress. After getting quotes from multiple other places I realized how much they were over-charging me. I asked for a refund, which they gave us but then charged us a 100 for the fitting. It would have ended there, but Susan then left six pins in my dress which left me with scratches on my legs. My fiancé called the business, because he was upset by the whole situation in which he overheard them laughing that I was cut by their pins. The fact that they laughed over their carelessness, charging more than double out there and the sheer rudeness of Susan. Just do yourself a favor, industry city has great food and other stuff to do. Just stay away from her. PS The other people who work there seemed very kind and I hope she treats them better than she treated me! read more

My daughters wedding was early September. This issue has passed and you should have made it right at the appropriate time, not when a negative yelp review is published. Let me refresh your memory. At the first fitting alterations were discussed and a plan was made. These were standard alterations as defined by the wedding dressers website. At the second fitting the dress was taken in too much and needed to be let out in the waist and hips. We also gave your team extra beading to be added to the train. The third fitting my daughter put on her dress to find out it was taken in a half inch instead of let out as discussed in the second fitting. Susan pointed out that this was a mistake made by her team. The beading was not sewn on to the train and the team was unaware of where it had to be placed (as defined in the second fitting). We also had to point out the sag in fabric in the chest and asked for cups to be added. When the cups were added they but not sewn symmetrically. At this point, it had felt like we had to ask for everything and point out our hesitancies with the dress alterations. My daughter was also in tears by this point. At the third fitting Susan said she would do right by us for the issues that we had had up to this point. Finally at the fourth fitting when we went to pick the dress up, we noticed dirt on the train. The cups had to be adjusted (as they weren't placed symmetrically-still) and the beading still wasn't sewn on We pointed out the dirt and got pushback from the seamstress. She reluctantly cleaned it but not all of it as we noticed another stain. More pushback before she took the dress back to clean. We asked the team to steam the dress after the dirt was removed and they refused as this was done after the third fitting. What was most disappointing was Susan not being present for 2 out of the 4 fittings. When it came time for payment Susan was not present, and it was the end of day. Her assistant was not aware of any deduction for our trouble. Instead of offering to call Susan we had to insist she get a hold of her. Finally we were offered 10% off of $1,250 standard alteration services. Overall the level of service and attention to detail did not match the price point The Wedding Dresser charges for services. read more

My wedding was May 2022. I read about this place in a New York Times article so I thought it would be safe, but I'm sad to say that I had an awful experience. It's not easy working with Susan. I suggest finding somewhere else with better customer service. Susan is very defensive about the alterations. In my final fitting, I noticed the seams on the bust, on the left and right side, were not even. It took numerous long-winded discussions in person, on the phone, and over email/text to convince her fix the issue. Because Susan refused to acknowledge my concerns, I recruited my stepmom to help try to convince Susan to fix it. The entire time, Susan tried to make us feel that the issue was all in our heads. In one of the email exchanges with my stepmom, Susan called me "hysterical." As I no longer felt I could rely on Susan, I reached out to other seamstresses as a backup. I showed them the pictures of the dress and they immediately understood the issue and how to fix it. To this day, I don't understand why Susan was being so difficult. To her credit, after all her objection and argument, she did fix the issue and I'm grateful for that. But it was a terrible customer experience and an incredible amount of added stress the week before my wedding. What's more, she and her team created stains on my dress. At my 2nd fitting, someone else's blood was on the dress. At my 3rd fitting, there was some unidentified brownish splotch. Both times, Susan tried to blame it on me. I had to go back and insist she have it professionally spot cleaned. With she did do, in the end. read more

I am SO grateful I found Susan and her team. She saved my wedding dress. Her and her team are professional, great communicators, calm, and very talented. Backstory- I initially took my dress to a different tailor who hemmed it but wouldn't take it in and tailor it properly (even though I had lost 10 lbs and the dress definitely needed taking in especially in the bodice. I'm also in fashion design so I know a good fitting dress when I see one!). I was scrambling to find someone who could save my dress as my wedding was quickly approaching and thankfully found The Wedding Dresser! Though the construction was a bit difficult on my dress, Susan came up with a creative and still attractive way to tailor the dress. I had 3 fittings and just picked it up today--it fits like a dream! Now I can feel confident walking down the aisle. Highly recommend The Wedding Dresser! read more

I purchased my dress from BHLDN as a bride with a budget and learned quickly that I hadn't thought too much about getting alterations. I panicked when I started researching of how much alterations could go for, and was instantly relieved after I contacted Susan. I sent her the link to my dress, and she was able to assess a quote and cost, giving me a range. Luckily I only needed minimal alterations. I live in Brooklyn and was overjoyed that I wouldn't have to travel to Manhattan. It's in a creative space in an industrial building with a food hall with much to do in case you want to hang out in the area. Finding the suite was pretty simple and the Wedding Dresser space was also nice. There's a little storefront area with accessories, jewelry, cover ups, and all sorts of other bits that are available. There's no waiting area to sit-- not that it's necessary! Everybody is very sweet and accommodating, since it's appointment-only you're greeted and called upon by your name. I was surprised that Susan herself tended to each of her clients, in addition to the other staff. Skylar, Isis and Tressa were also very helpful and kind. I ended up supplying the cups I wanted for my dress and they sewed them in and took in the top to accommodate my bust that's on the smaller side. I also had a short sweep train that Susan suggested we add a minor bustle, which worked out well amd perfectly matched the aesthetic of the dress. The alterations were done quickly-- I dropped it off in May and got it back later that month (I forget what the actual time frame since this was all so long ago!). My wedding was in September so you can imagine how many times I got to sneak on some tries at home. I tried it on at least once a week-- so much that the cup strings got undone but I reinforced them since it's pretty basic. I'd recommend The Wedding Dresser to NYC brides/anyone that needs alterations! read more

I recently used The Wedding Dresser for my wedding November 13, and Susan and her team were beyond amazing. We had a tight turnaround time because of the delay in getting my dress due to supply chain issues, but Susan and Lydia assured me that it would be ready in time. Due to possibly losing my mind from the wedding, I accidentally went to Manhattan instead of Brooklyn, and the wonderful woman who works the front desk (I apologize I cannot remember her name!) rescheduled me for the next day, with no problem. Susan and Lydia looked at my dress, and quickly decided on how to execute the alterations. Lydia was magical. She brought it in on my hips to make it more complimentary to my figure, she adjusted the top portion, and she made the dress fit perfectly! I have never felt more beautiful than I did on my wedding day! I cannot wait to send over pictures to them so they can see their amazing work from my wedding. They're magical. My daughter and I found Susan on Yelp. We needed to get my daughter's prom dress hemmed and altered. We waited until the last minute and I was worried we couldn't be helped. The end result was amazing and we were thrilled!! We bought the dress off the rack (an XS) and it was still too big! Susan and her team took the dress apart at the seams, altered it to fit and put it back together!! The staff at The Wedding Dresser are all very pleasant and professional. Prices were reasonable. Susan and her staff saved my day! I had just gotten back my dress from another tailor with less 4 days before I had to leave for my CA reception. I had asked for the sleeves and lengths to be adjusted, but boning was also recommended to give the dress a better shape.  Although most of the alterations were fine, the boning and bodice ended up a bit rigid & long, and dug into my ribs when I wore it. Unfortunately the original tailor was gone for the weekend, and I was desperate. I was recommended to Susan and her team and am so glad they were able to fix it and return it to me within 24 hrs! Still amazed at the luck! Resulted in a softer/lighter structure and I was able to wear it all night long comfortably.  Susan and her team are realistic, they will give you their honest & creative opinions on what can be done. From what I could see, they have handmade accessories & coverups, and are truly a one-stop shop that totally understands the details stressed-out brides think about. I bought my dress as a sample from BHLDN. It was a style that had been discontinued, but when the stylist put it on my body, I knew it was the one for me, despite being a couple sizes too big. From the very beginning, Susan and her team were kind, transparent, and professional. The dress needed to be taken in at the bodice, hemmed, bustled, and trimmed. At the last fitting, everything had been done except for the trimming, which they turned around in under 24 hours. I told them I would come by the next day to pick up my dress, but when they hadn't heard from me within a few hours of closing time the next day, they called to ask about my plans and offer to deliver the dress to me. Susan herself delivered my dress, free of charge, and with a big hug, wished me a wonderful wedding. Every step of the way, I felt that the team at The Wedding Dresser was there to consult me about my options. I brought in the jewelry I was planning to wear to the wedding, including a pair of earrings that used to belong to my husband's grandmother, and they helped me to find the perfect jeweled clip to go along with it. I came to Susan with a vintage wedding dress that my husband's grandmother had worn in 1954. The major issue was that she was about 6 inches taller than me as well as much smaller through the hips since she got married at 19. I had previously taken the dress to a very expensive bridal boutique in Washington, DC and there only suggestion was to add lacing up the back of the dress which would have destroyed the vintage style of the dress. My mother-in-law found Susan through the NYTimes. Talking to Susan was night and day from my experience in DC. My first appointment was in her mother's home in Baltimore while she was in the area. She clearly knew how to make the appropriate alterations while maintaining the original style of the dress. We decided to shorten the dress to tea length and use the material to make gussets to let out the dress. She also did the alterations for about half the price quoted by the boutique in DC. The final product was beautiful and very flattering. I am so grateful to Susan for her attention to detail and helping to make the dress look perfect. I would definitely recommend going to Susan if you have a vintage dress that needs altering. read more

I had a fantastic experience at The Wedding Dresser. My wedding was in June, and my first fitting was in March. Extremely happy with my experience with Susan, Tressa, and the gang! Forgive not posting photos yet-- will add after the wedding. I bought a used dress online from a woman who, despite being my size, was clearly a taller/bigger girl than me. I gave it to Susan, and the end result is a dress that looks like it was made for me despite going through likely 3-4 rounds of alterations for two different bodies. Susan's team even made videos on my phone of how to fix the corset and tie up the bustle for my bridesmaids, which I am extremely grateful for. Susan and her apprentices (sorry I didn't catch your names!) are friendly and totally lack the creepiness that I found at a lot of other wedding vendors. Finding people in the wedding industry who aren't automatons has been one of the harder parts of wedding planning for me and I was really happy to find Susan and her team not only because of their skill, but because they made me feel really comfortable. If you want to feel like you are getting your dress done by a talented family friend you are lucky to have, and not Sandra Bullock's best friend in every romcom, this is the place for you. Like some others, I did pay more for the alterations than the dress, but the total for dress + alternations was still far cheaper than buying a new dress and altering it. Susan isn't a warm or friendly individual when talking to her in person. She comes off as very brash/abrasive, arrogant and if you want something different you will be harshly criticized. Not to mention she asks questions that are inappropriate. Like, how much is your wedding dress? Why is that her business? (Read more you'll see why she's asks!) In addition, she talks down to her employees in front of you and the tension that you feel is really uncomfortable. Most of them walk around with their heads down and you can tell the morale amongst her team is low. I came in knowing exactly what I wanted, three things: sweet heart neckline, take-in the bust area and beading/embellishments on my bodice. She wanted to give me a bustle and I told her no, I didn't need one. However, that was a problem for her to hear! I told her that I was going to purchase a simpler dress for my reception in the future, so no bustle is needed. She criticized me and yelled: "you're only going to wear it for 30 minutes?" So disgustingly unbelievable. I was shocked that she had the nerve to state that after I told her I'm on a budget. And I didn't want anymore services especially because the work cost more than my dress (caught a sale!). But that was an issue for her, she wanted more of my money. Not only did I experience this, but talking to her on the phone about it, she was arrogant. She made it seem like she was doing me a favor with the price. To me the prices should be a flat rate no matter what bride needs the work. But nope. She says that she charges brides with expensive wedding dresses ($1,000+) more money for the same exact work. To me that's unethical. If you have prices they should be consistent and not based on social status. Weddings are hard enough when planning independently, especially on a budget. No one wants to have a provider for their wedding dress who is going to be nasty. I could not see myself wanting to return to her location for 3-4 fittings. I certainly would never refer anyone to her either. There are more people in New York to go to for bridal work. But she will tell you otherwise, as if no one else is a seamstress. There is no doubt that she is a good seamstress (dress restorer/recycler) based on other reviews, but that is not a pass to be rude, nasty or biased to brides in need of her services. Demand your respect and take your money to another professional who will be most gracious that you picked them to help you prepare for your special day. Never settle for less than what is minimum. Respect. Brides beware. Save yourself the headaches or unnecessary stress.
