I used my medical insurance at this place, and they sold me a pair of cheap eyeglasses. However, they charged my insurance over $300 for them. With that amount of money, I could have bought a much better pair of glasses--actually, I could have bought two similar pairs at Walmart for under $100. I filed a complaint with my insurance company, but they didn't seem to care. It feels like they're willing to overspend and give money away to places that provide low-quality products, as if it doesn't matter to them. This place charged my insurance more than $300 for one pair of cheap glasses. If you pay in cash, the glasses are much cheaper. They also don't put price tags on their eyeglasses, which makes it hard to know the real cost. It even seems like they may charge different prices to different people. Their eyeglasses are not high quality, yet they still billed my insurance more than $300 for a pair that should cost far less. My medical insurance was careless as well. If my insurance had simply given me even $50 toward glasses, I could have bought a much cheaper--and possibly better--pair myself instead of being charged over $300 by this place. read more

Okay so this is a tough one for me because I have gone here since I was young. I'm talking my high school years. I've been wearing contacts since I was in high school. I don't know whether or not I ever had a contact exam here because I have worn contacts for so long. I left out of state for many years and decided to go back to Family Optometrist only to be disappointed with the experience. The front office staff forgot to ask or have me fill out the usual patient intake form especially if I hadn't been there for many years a new form should always be filled out. At the very least you should be asked if you are there for glasses or contacts or both exams. In the end they walked away with ~$700 billed to my VSP insurance + my out of pocket fees for eye glasses that were considered on the cheap side (under $150), but with blue blocking, request for ultra thin lens with the exam was way more expensive with insurance than what I normally pay for out of pocket when I go to Costco or when I buy direct through Glasses USA. I was more disappointed with the fact that I didn't get my contact exam done and when I called in asking for the prescription for contacts because I couldn't order contacts they just apologized for not doing that exam when I was there and I would have to basically pay for a new exam. Makes no sense since the staff made the mistake, the office should rectify that by providing it free of charge for a costly mistake. I decided after leaving my corporate job and no longer having that eye insurance, to sign up to a new plan myself to get a new exam done someplace where mistakes like this won't happen again. I went to Lens Crafter instead and the customer experience was way smoother with the convenience of filling out my patient form online prior to my appointment. Making an appointment was also much easier and customer service was top notch. They also have better technology. Turns out my astigmatism isn't that bad and they lowered my prescription compared to my January 2024 appointment with Family Optometry. read more

Funny thing, I was actually introduced to Dr. Ho's office by my aunt because she use to work here as the front desk for the office back in 2010. However, I continue to come to Dr. Ho because he's a really GREAT* optometrist. Over the years, my vision has always been 20/20 but just recently, I'd say in the past two years, my vision was not up to par and it worried me because I get scared to drive at night. I made an appointment to see Dr. Ho and as always, the office is always accommodating to my schedule and got me in ASAP. Typical pre-screening are done by the technician and exams are done by Dr. Ho. During the exams, I really appreciate that he takes the time to hear my concerns and gives me a strategy to execute for my treatment plan. Due to frequent studying and phone time, Dr. Ho explained to me that my vision isn't bad, it's more of a mild case. He then further explained that my vision has been accustomed to seeing things closer and therefore has resulted in my blurry vision when looking at things from a farther distance. It was a relief because I literally thought that going from .25 to 1.25 in prescription was horrible! So if you're looking for a great optometrist who cares about his patients and puts "anxy-Nancy's" to rest, Dr. Ho at family optometry is the best place to go! We have been with Dr Ho for over 15 years and we tried to call him to let him know of the customer service but unfortunately front desk doesn't transfer or related the message to call back. So I hope Dr Ho see this review. 1st time happened about a year ago, we let go because we have been with Dr Ho for a long time. He is very caring and his exam is very thorough. I brought my glasses in to be adjusted, they broke the frame. They didn't try to compensate, not even a discount for a new frame. Frame is cheap it's the lenses that is expensive. No discount on the new lenses. Ok no big deal. Accident happened. Have anyone ever try asking these girls to see frames? It's like asking them to do you a favor. Today was the last draw, she literally took out two and toss it on the glass. It's not like we trying on 5 frames, this is the first one asking them to see a frame!! They don't want to help, the office is not busy, I could understand if they have customers waiting, but we were the only customer in the office at the time. She tossed two frame on the glass and walk away. If this is a message that we don't want your business, we got the message. Next, we picked up our glasses and need some adjustments. She said she can't do it, you can't bend the ear part a bit? We end up taking it to Costco for adjustment. And Costco was able to do it. I like Dr. Ho & the office in general. I have bought glasses here for a very long time. However, there's an incident that happens recently regarding a receptionist that I found not pleasing. That day, I came to the store and talked to her. I told her: "That's why I ask you to bring me the wide glasses so I can choose from, because I have square face and many of the glasses would not fit". She suddenly got angry and said "chi hieu khong? (Which means don't you understand). There are a lot of wide glasses. It also depends on which brand would you want." Oh well, what's the point of picking a pair of glasses and finally realized it did not fit?! Is it too much to ask her to give me the wide glasses to choose from to make sure the one that I pick would fit?! I replied to her "I don't care about the brands". During my most recent visit, I was able to select a beautiful pair of prescription glasses from their vast collection of eyeglasses. They carry multiple designer brands such as Fendi, Burberry, Chloé, Tiffany & Co., Ray Ban, etc. My glasses arrived within 2 weeks and I am so satisfied with them. The front desk employees here are not nice and don't know how to do their daily job ! I only made one pair of glass, but they told my insurance company I did two pair. I have to call my insurance many times to approve them that I only made one pair. Then the front desk complain the insurance company's fault, because they charge double. Are you kidding me?! Beware! I do not recommend this place. I had bad experiences with this place, took me over 2 months just to get my glasses done. Just for everyone, frames sold by Family's Optometry might not be genuine, could be a gray market, even the designer's wear that are on display. I had major problems with fitting the lens with their designer's frame that they sold here. Many attempts to resolve my problem were ignored by Dr. h ( multiples phone calls and written emails). I finally had to file a report with The BBB.org (better business bureau) you can look them up for yourself. Also a report filed with The Board of Optometry for their behavior. Never again would I bring my business to Family Optometry! ................I want to update you all............... Took my action with my insurance company, spoke with the supervisor their. They referred me to another doctor in Irvine with the same provider within my insurance. They did a custom lenses, with thin and high index. They also make sure that i did not have the same problems at Family's Optometry in Westminster; they made sure that the lenses do fit perfectly with my frames. They personally had me in their facility and check alignment with my face; so that all things do line up. They triple check and made sure that the lenses doesn't make any weird kind of noises! Just had my 2021 eye exam today with Dr. Ho. Still superb expertise and excellent customer service experience everytime I come in for my annual exam since 2014. Took his advice last year check up to improve my eye health (eye pressure was high last year running a risk of glaucoma in later years). Highly recommend Dr. Dennis Ho! I was in town and needed a new prescription for contacts, and Dr. Ho took his time explaining each step of the eye exam. His bedside manner is excellent. I felt well cared for and knowledgeable about my own eye health. The staff is also very friendly and helpful! I called this morning and got an appointment the same day. The doctor would engage in conversation with you before your eye exam to make you feel welcomed. I could not speak Vietnamese that well, so I spoke to them in English. I have been coming to see Dr. Ho since I was a kid and now I am in college. Dr. Ho is a great optometrist and cares about his patients. He explains what procedures he is doing which is always interesting to know. He and his staff are really helpful and helped my pick my current frames. His staff also helped me choose frames that would fit my face and were very patient with me even though I took a long time to decide. I was recommended by a friend to go to this place since having no insurance is pretty pricey at my previous doctors. I did my research on other places and their prices are ridiculous - not this place. Their prices are more than reasonable - especially with the service they provide. I went in for a contact lens exam which was 70$ (which also includes a regular eye exam). Their Acuvue Oasis contact prices are about 28$ a box (which is the same as Costco because they were able to call the manufactures to let them in on the deal). BUT, if you buy a year's supply, it's going to be about 18$ a box. GREAT, right?! Lens cost will vary depending on how high your prescription is. The receptionist were more than helpful. She was very sweet. The doctor himself was a very thorough man. He explained everything he was doing. He answered every question of mine in the best way I could understand. This place is very neat and organized. The workers speak fluent Vietnamese and English. They helped me right away when I came in. Although it's best to make appointments, this place also accepts walk-ins. The main doctor is here everyday except for every other Saturday. Those Saturdays are with his younger brother who works at Kaiser with an office in Santa Ana. I am very pleased with my visit. I will definitely be coming back! read more

I really like this place. An old co-worker of mine introduced me to Dr. Ho back in 2010 and I had a great experience. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance anymore so I had to shop around for the best price for contact lens exams. It's true, Family Optometry is definitely the most affordable. They charge only $70 for the exam and both an eyeglass and contact lens prescription. Compare this to Costco and other private clinics that charge $90-$130+. Their contacts are the same price as Costco, too. In fact, I was referred to another place that only charged $40 for the exam as a New Year's promotion, but had 1-2 star reviews across the board. For $30 more, I knew I would be in good hands with Dr. Ho. You can't bargain with your health. As for service, I made a same-day appointment and was seen promptly without any delay. I've been going to Dennis for over 10 years now and he still calls me "funny" whenever I'm laughing or smiling. Which is a polite way of saying, "too easily amused", I guess. Anyway, they moved to a new place about 2 years ago and their prices have gone up, but still much cheaper than many other optometry offices. If you want a super cheap contact lens prescription, you could probably optometrist-hop every year for first-time-customer specials... But if you want to stick to one doctor, pick any one of the 50 optometrists on Bolsa--like Family Optometry! Family charges $70 for a contact lens prescription (compared to ~$90 @ Costco). This will also double as your eyeglass prescription if you decide to get any. A lot of other places will make you pay one fee for the contact lens exam and ANOTHER FEE for the eyeglass exam. Not here! But if you forgo the contacts and just get the regular eyeglass exam, it's... (don't quote me on this) $50.. ish. Call and ask! Also, they take walk-ins, but try to make an appointment anyway (even if it's for the same day), because you never know who else might walk in right before you. read more

I've been going to a different optometrist every year- not only because I'm not completely satisfied, but also because of the price. Dr. Ho is so personable, charismatic, and easy going! To top it off, his prices are spot on - especially for those who do not have insurance (like me!). I got my eyes checked for BOTH contacts and eye glasses for ONLY $70!! That is seriously unheard of because that's how much I normally pay just for a contact lens exam! First time here. Got referred by a friend who goes here since my current optometrist was booked for weeks. I had an eye problem, which some thought couldn't been a viral infection because of the haze in my right eye and the endless watering and blindness from the sun. It was torture driving in the morning. I waited about 2 weeks thinking this "viral infection" would go away. It didn't. It seemed to have gotten better, but it got worse or went back to day 1 symptoms. So I made an appointment. I called this place asking for a quote. They said $50. I was booked. I had made calls around the LA area. Everything in LA is expensive. One quoted me at $120, and they had a Yelp deal online that couldn't be used on exams. Lame! Since it was supposedly viral, I decided to wait til the weekend. Glad I did, because there's nothing I could do besides take steroids and let my eye heal for months by wearing just glasses. This part blows. Can't gym in glasses now. I was instructed to take steroids for 10 days then come back with followup appointments. I don't have vision insurance, but I guess I should get it since it's going to cost me a lot more without the insurance. Anyway, inside the store is really nice and big. It's also clean. Dr. Ho was a good listener and was pretty informative. He even gave me an explanation of how my eye got to this point. So sad just thinking about it. $70 for a contact lens exam, not bad, not bad at all. i used to go to an optometrist down the street, but that dude was not personable, and a bit pushy. i remember when i came in to ask for my prescription, he gave me a hard time about it, insisting that I buy my contacts off him. sorry buddy, costco sells it for $10/box less. my mommy this place through a friend and this is where i met dr.dennis ho. basically, he's friendly, professional, and explains things to you in understandable terms. a check-in, a few puffs in the eye, short exam later, and i was done. he recommended a new contact lens brand for me, and gave me a trial pair to test it out. i was told that they will price match costco, but if i wanted to order online or elsewhere, they'll happily give me my prescription. yes, they OFFERED, which makes me feel comfortable about their honesty and consideration. the office is HUGE compared to others i've been to, and if i were interested in new frames, i wouldn't doubt they have a good variety. highly suggest you go here for your optometry needs :) read more

DR . Ho and his staff are so very welcoming and helpful. Selection of Frames and eye ware were wonderful and reasonable. The comprehensive exam was done with great care and concern, no rushing. Price wise very reasonable, we have no insurance and it was less than $100 for the two of us!! My husband and I went in on Saturday and our glasses were ready Tuesday. Location is great, off the 405 about 5 minutes. We will recommend our family and friends to Dr. Ho and Family Optometry. It is so hard to find REAL customer service these days. His equipment is advanced and modern but he also used the older methods as an extra layer of analysis, which I really appreciated. I was sold the moment I came back for a follow up visit (my apology for barging in 30 min before closing time while panicking about astigmatism, Doc). When writing a review, I look at cleanliness, customer service, convenience, costs, and talent (skills). I'm usually skeptical when I see a 5-Star rating, but Family Optometry deserves their 5-Star rating because they are exceptionally talented and they provide excellent customer service! Great quality for a great price. The store is very clean and pretty spacious. The exams are very quick and efficient (with great care) and they are always spot on!
