For what it is, a small town diner, you really can't go wrong here. The menu is extensive, and everything I have had has been outstanding. I have had breakfast and/ or lunch here many times. The ingredients are always fresh. The hot food is served hot and the cold foods are served cold. You can tell the servers are veterans who know what they're doing. They will accommodate practically any special request. Someone wrote that they serve processed turkey. I know for fact that they roast their own turkey and I have had it on their hot turkey sandwich, turkey dinner, turkey burger, and each dish was fabulous. Now, if you're looking for a 5 star gourmet restaurant that will cost you four times more, than this isn't your place. This is a down home, comfort food, family diner, that won't disappoint, unless you are looking for reasons to be disappointed. If so, nowhere will be suitable. Fallbrook cafe I thought was going to be a nice sit down diner that had good food and just looked like a hole in the wall. When we went I was very disappointed in the place. My cornbread tasted like jello and my friend ordered the all you can get fish and chips on that certain day. He only got one plate of fish and chips and nothing else. I've been to this place twice. And I'm only rating it one star bc it's the least I can rate it. The second time hoping they'd redeem themselves. I waited about what seemed 15 minutes waiting to be seated. I got frustrated so I walked down to the breakfast bar which I felt the staff members staring, analysing and dissecting me with their looks. I seated myself at the breakfast bar. No one greeted me nor acknowledged me until I flagged down a server walking past me. Older lady doing paper work on other side of counter greeted me 5 minutes too late. I assumed she was one of the co-owners. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs. One of the servers brought my order out. The eggs seemed to be the small kind. Not such a great presentation of plate. Just slapped on oversized plate. No condiments were offered. I had to ask for salt, pepper and ketchup bc eggs were bland and flavorless. I do recall server checking up on me once. I was ready to leave the cashier who was totally dif person was very nice and polite. I left a tip. Wasn't much but I felt obligated since they look forward to it. it had been a few years since i'd eaten here, but i'd heard it was under new management and i wanted to give it another shot; so i went with a friend for lunch on Sunday and ordered one of my favorites, the hot meatloaf sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy, which the friendly and attractive waitress set in front of me before i knew it ; on the plus side, the portions were very generous (the Cobb salad my friend ordered was enormous) but unfortunately my meatloaf was completely tasteless, not seasoned at all; the gravy was likewise bland and the mashed p's tasted like they were made with potato buds; even salt, pepper, ketchup and a pat of butter failed to improve matters; this is a friendly, casual, homey place, and the prices are certainly reasonable; i noticed they had an early bird dinner special for only 5.99; i want to like this place and i'm gonna try again. read more

Walked in on a Sunday morning. The place was packed with big parties but my gf and I were able to immediately take a seat at the counter. Coffee was good. I ordered chicken fried steak with eggs, hash browns, and a side of toast for $10. I was really surprised how good it was. The breading was crispy even with all the gravy on top. The gravy was amazing. Perfect balance of savory and salty. Hash browns and eggs were cooked perfectly to my preference, scrambled soft and extra crispy. The toast was good but the butter, oh man. That homemade butter was something else. My gf's cinnamon French toast was equally good, $9. Perfect balance was frosting and cinnamon. She loved it. We traded have way, I loved it. It's all standard American dinner food but done extremely well at good prices and large portions. Spent $25 for two coffees and two filling meals. I look forward to coming back to try their other breakfast offerings. read more

Went here on a Sunday morning for the first time with my husband, we love to find little holes in the wall but our favorite is about thirty minutes away so we thought we would give this place a shot, and were we sorry we wasted our money. We we first pulled in there were only five parking spaces that were all taken up and we drove around until someone finally left, we walked in and were not greeted nicely told the hostess two and without saying anything she proceeded to walk away and then turned around and realized we weren't following here she came back with a bigger attitude and showed us to our booth, and asked us what we would like to drink. my husband ordered a coke and i got a water but had to send it back because what looked like coffee grinds were obviously floating around inside of it. When the waitress finally got around to introducing herself and asked us for our order she was not pleasant and just took our order and left. She obviously cared more about her regulars then she did anyone else. Since the place was very small we could see that our order was ready a full seven minutes passed until we finally saw our waitress coming out of the kitchen with food in her mouth looking like she gave herself a break, while our food sat and waited. While when our food finally did come it wasn't horrible but it was nothing special i got the tuna melt and it was so bland i got most of the flavor from the toast. After receiving our food our waitress never came to check on us and we had to signal a bus boy just to get our check mind you this is a place with one long narrow row of booths so she maybe had three or four tables and like i said she was very much interested in chatting with what seemed to be her regulars. With that said it is most likely we will never be eating here again and we strongly disagree it. read more

The rating would be higher if they were consistent on their help. The food is good as a general rule, however depending on the time that you come in, the help is either really good, or they only show up when its time to give your food and when they give you the bill. Love this place. My husband and I are from a town in PA that has a little diner every few blocks. We were really missing it when we found this place! Love the atmosphere, love the staff they are very friendly and child accommodating. The food was delicious, we both got omelettes and they were chock full of the toppings, definitely no skimping out. I think some people when reviewing the food forget that this is a diner, not a 5 star restaurant. It's greasy, messy, home style. Just like a diner should be. Will be returning regularly. read more

Where do I start? Well lets start with the reviews I've read on here so far. You can NOT let one bad experience keep you away. The owners: I swear that woman is on top of everyone and everything. She checks on the tables and makes sure everything is going good. She greets everyone at least once by being the person to refill your coffee herself and ask about your day. Love her! Plus I need to add that they are community supporters! They let other businesses and charities advertise there, leave pamphlets and they raise money for the local high school band and Fallbrook Food Pantry, The cooks: I know of two of them, Gomez & Chris. These guys are proud of what they make and it shows and taste like it. The soups everyday is tasty and never bland. Even the plain ole tomato soup is far from plain! I get a better steak cooked AS ORDERED every time. Ok, I guess maybe twice in 6 years Ive had to send it back but twice in 6 years?? That's a VERY good winning streak! And I'm pretty sure it was when these two guys weren't working. Almost everything is made from scratch. AND they do NOT pepper the heck out of everything like 90% of the other places here in town. I don't think I have had a meal there ever that wasn't tasty. The portions are great and usually you have leftovers to take home. The baked potatoes are large. The rolls are always good! One important thing I've noticed that really counts is these guys look at the tables to make sure the person eating the meal enjoys it. I've seen them do this many times and it just proves they care about every plate coming out of that kitchen!! Plus who can say they have seen the cooks smiling all the time? Love them! The waitresses: I can't say enough about them all. Always welcoming. Always smiling. Always "buzzing" around as someone else said on the reviews. It's rare they forget something you have asked for. They remember the names of the regulars and even on my 2nd visit 6 years ago they recognized me and said welcome back! When my husband had his knee surgery they always asked about him. They check on you throughout your meal and you never feel forgotten. Suffice to say they are all wonderful! Nice old fashioned diner with friendly wait staff. The breakfast was good with large portions. I had previously given this place a great review. Went there several times after it opened and really liked the diner quality food. Desserts are Way Too pricey though. However, things have changed since then. Quality slid and then improved but not to the initial level IMHO. I live pretty close to this cafe so i wind up ordering from them several times a week. The quality of the food is always good with excellent flavors. The service at the restaurant is very fast and accommodating to any special requests that i may have. The atmosphere is nothing special sine it is an older restaurant but the food does make up for this. If you are looking for a quick meal that is priced right then you have found the go to spot. The only down side is the hours and the fact that they close early on the weekdays if they are not busy. I have been there 25 minutes before close and they will not take my order to go since its getting close to closing time and they will tell you "sorry the kitchen is already closed" (everyone wants to go home on time.) I'm sure the owner would not be happy to know that they are turning down money/business during hours of operation. This is an excellent place to eat a quick meal or order to go food as long as you arrive/order 30-40 minutes before closing time they will be more than happy to accommodate you!! read more

I didnt expect fallbrook cafe to be as excellent as it was when i went but it turned out to be wonderful! The food was delicious i had ordered the prime rib sandwitch. i half expected it to be small and tasteless, trying to find good prime rib here is like finding 100 bucks on the sidewalk but to my surprise it was huge tender and was bursting with flavor. It literally melted in my mouth! The french fries were fresh crsipy and not greasy. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes awesome portions and the gravy was thick and flavorful. Best hes had in a long time. One of the best parts is that kids eat free after 2pm with an adult dinner. Needless to say he had a big smile on his face with his order of hamburger and french fries. The service was dynamite we had a nice happy lady named Athena she was right on top of things we never had to ask for refills. (One of my biggest peeves) very friendly but not over the top get on your nerves food server. Our compliments to the cook and 5 stars to this awesome little diner. I am not cheap by any means. I don't mind spending money for good food and eat out often. That being said over spending for poor quality is something I have learned to live with as most restaurants in North County are not what I would consider "exceptional". I also have learned that the "masses" seam to revel in mediocraty.But when it comes to out right HIGHWAY ROBBERY,I had to YELP. I didn't feel like cooking last night for my Mum ( who has stage 4 cancer) and she was not up to leaving the house. She wanted Fish and Chips so I thought I'd take a cruise to the Vista Village Pub in Vista and pick up some to-go however she suggested the Fallbrook Cafe. I was never thrilled by the Fallbrook Cafes food, service or atmosphere so I decided to try the new Thai Restaurant in Jackson Square and pick up something for myself to-go. I did as she asked and ordered Fish and Chips, no salad, no soup, no desert to-go. The Fish looked like "Mrs Pauls" the batter to fish ratio was about 70% batter 30 % Mystery Fish, the Chips were typical bag French Fries. Not great but acceptable until I got the check $15.16. To put that into perspective Vista Village Pub Fish and Chips and Penny Lane in San Marcos are $12.00 and $11.00 respectively and come with fresh cod, hand cut chips and Cole slaw. Much tastier and much better value. If you are wondering I had Duck Broccoli and Rice from the New Thai restaurant in Jackson Square it was awesome and ran $10. I know there are not many good local choices in Fallbrook but come on! Over 15 bucks for bad food? It's worth the gas and time to go somewhere else! read more
