I've eaten here many times. I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. For breakfast just a couple of times. I mostly had lunch and dinner here with family, friends and my hubby. This one of the few places in town that is a nice but casual restaurant with a good menu for breakfast and lunch, and for dinner too. The prices are reasonable too. They have a great bar with drink specials. I've tried a few cocktails and sweet wines as well as their coffee selections. Today's visit was at lunch time with a friend. I wanted to show up early to get on the wait list early so my guest didn't have to wait. To my surprise, I only had to wait 5 minutes. The wait time was much longer when we were leaving Parking does get full quickly at the top area. Just remember there is parking below, but you will have to face stairs to reach the top level to see the hostess for seating. My lunch meal that I usually get is a Chinese Chicken salad, today was no different. I usually request for extra dressing.. My husband and I like that they do serve soda water. Our server was very friendly and checked on us often. I forgot to point out that when I come with family we prefer outdoor seating if the weather permits. The reason being is that it is loud inside. There is background music, but it could barely be heard because of the echoing of people talking. It is difficult to hear the people you are there with. 4.5 stars I've driven by this restaurant so many times over the years. This was my first time coming here. I had a little breakfast get together with my friends. Such a nice relax atmosphere. We put our order in and the food came out quickly. My friend ordered the avocado toast. Looked amazing. I got the eggs Benedict. I learned of this place about 2 years ago and since then I've been there many times. The food is excellent and the quality is superb. Portions are large but the prices are not. It's like eating in a place with prices 30 years ago. I went there again today with about 8 of my friends and the service was excellent. That said I would caution the restaurant to address some service inconsistencies such as not returning to the table to see if all is well or if you need anything. We had a distant peek at only two screens in-between other sports like women's field hockey on a couple other screens. I accomplished what I set out to do; watch a bit of the Indy 500. Mission accomplished. Z-Cafe is a good place to get the Sunday breakfast until 3pm and the lunch option after 11am. They do have a good and diverse menu. Do pay attention to the daily happy hour and daily early-bird specials. I'm not one to complain about much unless it is due. Today it is due. Today revealed some overhead dusting needed on the game kill busts along the walls, and the larger leafed indoor plants were in need of a wipe-down. Also, I went to open the Tabasco that was on the table. The wife looked down at the bottle and cap and was overly impressed by their cleanliness. Very cool restaurant. Perfect for lunch/brunch! They have a terrace with beautiful seating as well as plenty of indoor tables. Their menu has a wide variety from salads, sandwiches, burgers and even Hawaiian! I ordered the trio which comes with half a sandwich, soup and salad. I went with their tuna sandwich and chicken tortilla soup. The sandwich was very generously made with plenty of tuna and avocado. So fresh and yummy. The salad was good and I appreciated the mixed greens rather than standard iceberg served at most places. The soup was kind of bland in my opinion. Lacked salt and needed some type of spice, maybe some chipotle pepper would've elevated the flavors. My husband ordered the Hawaiian plate with beef teriyaki and he loved it! Worst experience with a cappuccino and a telephone that I've ever had. The goal was to order a decent cappuccino, jump off the freeway pick it up and move on. Instead, the address listed doesn't give the unit number and leads you to a large commercial park. I called the store and talked with the gentleman who drove me around in circles for about five minutes. When I got frustrated, he actually raised his voice and said I'm trying to help you! I said a nice help, would be to just give me the address, plain and simple. Turns out that the unit number tends to be important. Also the fact that there are TWO places called Z Cafe right beside each other.. I'm sure the fire department would think this is all important information. Stopped in for a VERY busy Saturday lunch, and it was good but amid the busy frenzy, a few things from our order got forgotten. We decided to eat at the bar to save time, since we'd tried to phone in reservations, but they said everything is just walk-in. (The bar turned out to have way too much frantic activity for our taste, but I admire how fast the ONE wait person there could move!) Hubby had a Reuben. They forgot the thousand island dressing, and it took awhile to get it. I asked that they remove the cost of the avocado for their mistake. A manager came to talk to me and reiterated the avocado would be an extra charge despite their mistake.
