Stopped in for a VERY busy Saturday lunch, and it was good but amid the busy frenzy, a few things from our order got forgotten. We decided to eat at the bar to save time, since we'd tried to phone in reservations, but they said everything is just walk-in. (The bar turned out to have way too much frantic activity for our taste, but I admire how fast the ONE wait person there could move!) Hubby had a Reuben. They forgot the thousand island dressing, and it took awhile to get it. I ordered the DELISH chicken and avocado salad, with tomatoes on the side, and the guy didn't bring the tomatoes, which I pointed out. He said, "I'll get those" but never did. Worst experience with a cappuccino and a telephone that I've ever had. The goal was to order a decent cappuccino, jump off the freeway pick it up and move on. Instead, the address listed doesn't give the unit number and leads you to a large commercial park. I called the store and talked with the gentleman who drove me around in circles for about five minutes. When I got frustrated, he actually raised his voice and said I'm trying to help you! I said a nice help, would be to just give me the address, plain and simple. Turns out that the unit number tends to be important. Also the fact that there are TWO places called Z Cafe right beside each other.. I'm sure the fire department would think this is all important information. Once I found the place, I ordered my cappuccino which turned out tasting exactly like a burnt pot of gas station coffee with a splash of milk. I went to breakfast with a large group. Friday 8-28-26. It took a really long time to be seated. The food was ok. Service was good. It took a long time to be served. I had to ask twice to get the egg I order. I got half my breakfast, and then 15 minutes later got the egg I ordered to go with it. I felt bad for the waitress because she had to work under those conditions. The restaurant was at full capacity. The really interesting thing was I was told it was 91 degrees outside with 97% humidity. The air conditioning was broken and there was one small fan in the area we were seated. I came for dinner with a friend and ordered the waygu burger and asked the server if I could swap the egg in the burger for avocado and she said yes. When my food came out there was no avocado on it, other ingredients were missing and the fries were already cold. It took a long time for them to bring out the missing ingredients so by the time it reached me it was all cold. When the bill came I was charged for the avocado. I asked that they remove the cost of the avocado for their mistake. A manager came to talk to me and reiterated the avocado would be an extra charge despite their mistake. A friend of mine was excited to share her go-to spot in Bonsall. Z Cafe is probably one of the most impressive restaurants I've ever been to in the US post pandemic... Why? It's like an art gallery and restaurant in one. I really enjoyed the paintings by Steve Barton showcased throughout the rooms, especially on the way up the stairs from the lower level. What a grand entry!! I love that they have dishes that have rice, pasta, and bread/sandwich options for my family--the 3 of us in my family have different preferences for carbs. Mind you, during this 6 minutes, multiple employees walked by us and used the computer right in front of us (less than 2 feet from us).
