Went to try this place after a surfing day. The ambiance is super cute and it's pretty and clean. The staff were super nice and the food was yummy. I got a mirin roll and a spider roll, some asahi and hot sake. Happy belly!! Nice find in a plaza area. We were looking for something light for lunch and decided to give this place a try. Upon walking in we noticed how incredibly clean the entire restaurant was. I finally took myself to eat here after years of going to the Escondido location. It's way bigger inside! The menu is identical with the exception of a couple specials I think. The servers were really attentive and friendly. I was the only customer eating there and I sat at the bar seating. I could hear the cooks singing what was playing in the restaurant. It was really funny! The karaage app is a big portion and is good on its own without the dipping sauce it comes with. The salmon lemon roll was better than the sushi I had in Escondido. Nice little spot in Vista! While they do have sushi, which was really good -- we enjoyed the garlic noodles the most! The sushi tasted fresh and a good size. The garlic noodles and filet mignon was amazing. Really really full of garlic flavor and the steak was tender and juicy. We'd go back for the garlic noodles. I've been coming to Mirin Kitchen since they first opened, before the unfortunate fire, and I'm so glad they've continued to stay open. This place consistently delivers fresh, flavorful Asian fusion dishes that are both comforting and satisfying. Some of our favorite appetizers include the cucumber salad, edamame, seaweed salad, steamed gyoza, and katsu chicken. As for sushi, we love the Double Salmon, Lemon Salmon, Dragon, Caterpillar, Protein, and Mirin Roll. For noodles, our go-tos are the Chicken Yakiudon, Beef Yakiudon, and Vegetable Yakisoba. We haven't tried any of the ramen items yet, but they're on our list. Service is usually quick and friendly, and the staff are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere is clean and modern, whether you're dining in or picking up. I really like the tasteful, current decor. If you're ordering takeout, just be sure to double-check your order, as you should anywhere, as a few times I've had extras or add-ons missing (like extra lemon, for example). Love this spot! It's great for takeout or dining in. They have a good variety of dishes and everything is delicious and reasonably priced. My go to is the katsu curry. I ordered 2 orders of shrimp tempura and 2 orders of fried dumplings. The tempura batter wasn't as flaky and crispy as I'm used to and didn't have any flavor. In addition, the batter wasn't completely done. The shrimp was actually tough. The dumplings were okay but the sauce for both the dumplings and the tempura were the same and not anything like my taste buds are used to. It was all just okay. The sushi was good, but the chicken teriyaki bowl was absolutely disgusting. I'm not a picky eater at all, but it was so inedible that I couldn't eat a single bite and left the entire bowl untouched. I asked the manager if it could be taken off the bill since I genuinely did not like it, and I was completely fine paying for everything else I ordered (miso soup, fried chicken, and a sushi roll). While speaking with me, the manager kept making faces and clearly tried his best not to remove the dish from my bill. I've seen less oil pumped from drilling than what I found in this ramen. Sure, the service and atmosphere was accommodating and kind, but I am here to speak on the atrocities committed on my stomach. We ordered the Tonkotsu Mirin, and the Tonkotsu Shio--along with an order of fried gyoza and a dragon roll (not pictured). If you can imagine the green bubbling cauldrons found in Disney movies, that was my stomach about 5 minutes after I walked out of the restaurant. I literally keeled over like I had the worst period cramps alive, while spikes shot up my butthole like I was about to see my next life. When you drink the ramen, sure, there's about an ounce in flavor. But in comparison to the teaspoon of other toppings, the pound of pork belly (which could be summarized as 90% fat, and 10% actual meat), and the amount of total oil and fat that was at the top--I would rather eat instant ramen to save my sanity. My sister reports that the water tasted like burnt plastic. The very first time I went there (this is my second time), it ALSO had a strange taste. Numerous times on our walk, she was literally an inch away from projectile burp-vomiting. I was about 25 feet away from my door, when the results of this dish hailed on me like an armageddon. I am not religious, but on EVERYTHING that is holy, what the actual hell. I had never shimmied through my house so fast to try and make that bathroom trip. TLDR; if you want to save yourself a serious tummyache, PLEASE do not eat the ramen. The sushi roll and the gyoza were mediocre at best. But please, if you wish to save yourself arteries, find your ramen elsewhere. read more

Overall, I had a decent experience at Mirin Kitchen. I don't think that a return visit to Mirin would be a first choice, but I definitely wouldn't be opposed to returning. The service was good and the staff was kind. When we were there, the restaurant wasn't busy and the atmosphere was very welcoming and conducive to conversation. I ordered the Shio Ramen with pork and my friend got the Chicken Katsu Curry. The food did not come out together with the curry arriving to the table at least 5 minutes before the ramen. Overall, the ramen was solid. Nothing amazing, but there wasn't any significant flaws. I would've wanted some more meat in the ramen, but I think that's standard for ramen restaurants. I left feeling fairly satisfied with my meal. My friend also very much enjoyed his curry. read more

Japanese cuisine at its best! Delicious authentic dishes that scream Japan!!! I started with the Crunchy Roll which literally was the best Crunchy Roll I've ever had! It had such fresh ingredients and a good size. Very filling and was served with two sauces and the usual sides of ginger and wasabi and great quality soy sauce. I also ordered the Katsu Chicken with Garlic Noodles! It was enough for two people so I took half home. There are so many dishes I want to come back and try like the Curry Bowl and other noodle plates. But that will be another visit. The Mirin Kitchen is very cute! The decor is very clean and comfortable. There is air conditioning and a lot of seating. I loved how immaculate it was and the service was impeccable. We have been meaning to try this place for a while because they described themselves as "Japanese Comfort Food". This made me think of warm curries. We did finally dine with them late on a Friday night in summer so did not go with curry. The menu didn't seem that different from most other Japanese restaurants. Since we weren't super hungry we decided to split the vegetable tempura ($8) and the chicken and beef teriyaki plate ($16). I thought the prices were a bit high for the portions. The tempura was crispy and had 2 broccoli, 3 carrots, and 3 small sweet potatoes. The teriyaki plate came with a miso soup, a small side salad, and rice. We both preferred the chicken although the beef wasn't bad . Service was friendly, and quick but we did have to search out a fork ourselves. Our total with no drinks and tip came out to $31 and just didn't feel like a lot of food for the price. When checking out, they do bring a card reader to the table and then awkwardly stand there while you complete the tip- I really wish restaurants left the reader at the table as I often prefer to get input from my dining partner on how they think service was Overall, I am not sure if we will return as I think there are better values to be had in town but also wouldn't object if someone else suggested this place. read more

My son said it was his favorite restaurant of all time, after a couple bites of each of his things (plain udon and shrimp tempura). I've never tried brussels sprout tempera before, and I was very pleased. Good sushi, good tofu bowl. Really delicious. First time trying this place out. Everyone greeted us and the place is well lit with nice decor. I ordered a crunchy roll, caterpillar roll, brusselsprouts with pork sung, and a house noodles dish. The rolls were very good and I liked the noodles. I don't usually eat noodles since I get rice but these are good and the protein in it were nicely seasoned. The brusselsprouts were good and this was the first time I tried pork sung, but the sauce was a lot for me and next time, I'd order the sauce on the side. My bf ordered a Ramune etch was strawberry flavor, so it was good. I hope more items get added in the menu because I was hoping for more food items which could be found at Hinotez. read more

The service was great, server was very attentive. I feel the food was basic. Nothing special. I ordered the cucumber salad and the cucumber looked frozen or unsure if the cucumber was getting old. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for a while and it's always been great with great service, however, today they had a different server and when my bf ordered beef teriyaki, she brought him tofu. When he said he ordered beef, she just stood there and said he ordered tofu, put it on the check and ignored us while we sat there trying to talk to her about the correction. He hates tofu and has always ordered the same thing ever time. The food (when given the right thing) is good but we would prefer the other server and not given a rude attitude when we ask for the correct thing we ordered. I like this restaurant and have been here before. Tonight my husband and I came for dinner. We work different shifts and don't see each other every day so this was a little special. we were seated at a table and We ordered beers and rolls and appetizers. We were having a nice time and decided to order a dinner to split. Our server brought our dinner to us in a to go bag. We explained that we were continuing eating at the table . She then took the to go box out of the bag and set it in front of us. We thought that maybe she'd go back and get the food plated. But I had to get up and ask for plates . Then I realized we had no knives so I had to get up again to ask for them. Then , I believe it was the manager , came over and we explained the to go box and as a nice gesture offered to buy us our next beers . We thought that was nice but he brought 1 beer , I guess for us to share. It was just weird. There were 2 servers and only 2 tables that had customers so it wasn't busy. My wife raved about this place so she took me for dinner. Walking in you are greeted by a very large, clean dining room. The servers were so exceptionally nice and made us feel comfortable right away. The menu felt large, with lots of different Japanese offerings. We ended up trying the curry and tofu teriyaki, as well as a side of shrimp tempura. All of the fried food was so fresh and crunchy, perfectly cooked. I really loved the tofu teriyaki, probably some of the tastiest tofu I've ordered before. The space was comfortable and the food so good that I definitely want to go back and try more. read more
