Spicy tuna roll. The pieces are huge!
    Jeff N.

This has been my favorite restaurant for both Thai food and sushi for quite a while. I had a bad day and decided to stop for Thai food to brighten my day. There was only one other customer in the restaurant that late in the afternoon. But despite not being busy, after getting the menu, I waited for an exceptionally long time for service. I watched the waitress talking to the other customer for all that time and completely ignoring me. I decided to give her one more minute, then I'd leave. After counting the 60 seconds, I got up and headed for the door. That's when the waitress finally looked at me and hurried over before I reached the door. She said the other customer had questions/issues about the food (which she had already eaten, as there were only empty plates on the table). It had been obvious to me that they were simply having a casual conversation (in Thai) for their dynamics, not an issue. I returned to my table to order an appetizer and a Thai beer. She said they were out of Singha, as well as Kirin; they only had Sapporo (which I don't like). A Thai restaurant out of Thai beer?!! That was the final straw and I left. I decided to try a new Thai restaurant in the area instead - Chiin. Their food was fantastic! (see my review for them). Even better than here. So, while this place will remain my sushi go-to, they've lost all my future business for Thai food. Cafe de Thai & Sushi really dropped the ball today.

Another dirty spoon in sauces brought to table. BEWARE!

Dirty! Have been there many times and food was fine. Heard it is under new ownership. Old spoons in sauces delivered to table, flies swarming my food and was charged different prices per plate than what menu listed by several dollars. Complained and was told they were waiting on new menus. Buy a sticker and put the correct price on the menu instead of not being transparent to your customers. Will not be going there again!

A surprising combo that works! Fresh sushi and flavorful Thai dishes--the pad thai and rainbow roll are standouts. Friendly service and cozy vibe, though the space is small. Great for a casual, satisfying meal.

Something for everyone! The food is always fresh and great. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. You can sit at the sushi bar or a table and everyone can order something different. Non sushi items are great as well. They show sports and it's a great local spot!

Food: Had tomyum soup, crab roll, and my husband had the ultimate asparagus. I also had the hurricane and mango sticky rice for dessert. Tomyum soup was a little too sweet for me. I would have preferred the more authentic spicy and sour tomyum soup. But overall not bad. My tomyum soup had rice noodles cabbage, mushrooms and pork. And glorious cilantro. My husband's ultimate asparagus looked wonderful. Meat tasted good and asparagus was well cooked. My husband said he expected more flavour out of this dish- a little nland for him. That said he was comparing with his idea of a Thai dish with lots of flavour like in Thailand. Crab roll is wonderful as always. Hurricane was delicious for me. And well presented with a slice of lemon and cherry with a little umbrella. Mango sticky rice: Delicious taste was wonderful. The presentation I felt was a little lacking. Service: We had a young Asian waiter and he was super attentive. And even though it was busy- he kept coming back to make sure we were ok. W eliked the ambience this is the second time we have been back.

Drunken Noodle with Beef (clumpy noodles, chewy beef)

Thai food review only. We didn't order any sushi items. I once believed that Thai food was the hardest to mess up. Nearly every Thai place we went to in San Diego was always decent, even if not great. I was warned Thai food isn't good in Oside, but I figured there are so many to choose from, one of them has to be good. Tonight the search continues after yet another disappointment. The crab fried rice is stringy. The drunken noodles were a broken, clumpy mess, mixed with chunks of chewy beef. The garlic chicken was very dry, and the best part of the meal was the steamed broccoli and cabbage that came in the garlic chicken. However, it's on par with every Thai place we've tried so far, so 3 stars.

It's hard to put my finger on it, but something about the sushi here (especially when paired with a little bit of soy sauce) just had an excellent taste that I'm not sure I've had anywhere else. I really liked the "Ninja & Samurai" roll which is pretty simple, but another family member liked the Aloha roll (which is fried). That being said there are a LOT of options, and the basic California Rolls are quite inexpensive. Josh was very friendly and even made an attempt to learn our names, and he really helped tie off a nice meal with good service. Definitely somewhere I look forward to coming to again!

This time I ordered the agedashi tofu, ikura nigiri, and a dragon roll. The agedashi tofu was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, soaking up that savory broth so well. The ikura nigiri was super fresh -- bright, briny, and buttery in that way that just pops when you bite into it. And the dragon roll? So good. Creamy, flavorful, and balanced -- not overly sauced, just done right. My boyfriend got the Alaskan roll and the Korean ramen, and both were great. The ramen was comforting and flavorful, and the Alaskan roll was fresh and satisfying. Also, our server is always hilarious. It makes the whole experience even better when you're laughing throughout dinner. Between the consistently good food and the friendly, funny service, it's easy to see why we keep coming back. Waraii will always be one of our go-to spots in Vista.

The space was clean with an easygoing atmosphere that worked well for families and adults who know good sushi. The staff ran the place with real intention. Every interaction felt genuine. They were attentive without hovering, and they handled our daughter with patience that many restaurants never pull off during a busy service. The pacing of the meal caught me off guard in the best way. This was the fastest service I have ever experienced at a sushi spot, and we go out for sushi often. Speed didn't come at the expense of quality. The fish was crisp and fresh, and every roll had its own well thought out flavor profile. The variety here sets them apart. I enjoyed everything we ordered, but the Yesterday Roll and the Honey Roll were the standouts. Both were balanced, creative, and worth returning for. The kids menu was a smart touch. Reasonable price, good portions, and actual options instead of an afterthought. Our daughter devoured the chicken teriyaki and tried her first sushi with a California roll. She was all in. Hooked on Sushi earned a repeat visit from us without hesitation. This is the kind of place that handles the basics well and raises the bar on the rest.

For some of the best ramen that Oceanside has to offer, I recommend The Wu Lan Ramen located in the Plaza Del Oro Shopping Center, just south of the 76 Hwy. It's hidden behind the 24 Hour Fitness and CVS. The plaza has limited parking, but it isn't typically too crowded and you should be able to find parking in front of this family-owned ramen restaurant. They have a quaint and trendy ambiance and they placed a lot of care into their anime murals, which lends to a "whimsical" vibe. It's a nice blend of traditional elements & colors and modern (kawaii) accents. The interior is also spacious and has great seating for groups and is also good for couples too. Enjoy table seating or better-yet at their bar seating and you can chat with the friendly staff! They have a "staple menu" that is written in chalk on a board and then there's their menu that is very diverse. They also have a great Happy Hour menu with items priced below $8, including sake! I enjoy their pan-fried gyoza, salted edamame, miso soup, firecracker shrimp, fried calamari, chicken karaage and most other delicious dishes. Their sushi menu is also high quality grade and I feel is often overlooked and underrated. But their ramen is what shines the most! There are so many styles & varieties! There's a lot to customize and their broth is amazing! There are many tasty bowls, desserts and don't forget to grab a sake or a craft beer! I recommend checking Wu Lan Ramen the next time you're looking for some authentic ramen or sushi in the north side of Oceanside.
