One of my absolute favorite sushi places! They have such a great variety of sushi, and everything is always fresh and delicious. Even my little one, who was 3 at the time, loves sushi here! Got on the waiting lost via Hooked on Sushi's website. I have used this several times before. Waited 40 minutes even standing outside, no text. We finally got inside asking if our table is ready. The hostess says oh we don't even have the tablet up here to see the waiting list. Ok...you saw us standing outside for a long time and you don't bother to ket people know if they're on the waiting list that they don't have access to it?? Food was delicious as usual. Our server was good. The bussers were lazy and would just throw the dishes in the containers as if they were working in a school cafe or something. SO obnoxiously loud!!! I really liked it. The combination of the flavors and variety of fish was great, I especially liked the dragon roll as the flavors were quite on point . Extra points for the nice bag they gave for take away. The California rolls were good but overall pretty basic with the imitation crab. The specialty rolls are where it's at like the Mario but they are $$ Would I go here normally if it was not for a work lunch? I'm not sure. We came here on a Saturday late afternoon around 4:00pm and had no problem getting a table quickly. This is a casual place in a strip mall with plenty of parking. My boyfriend ordered the miso soup, which came up in a pretty large cup/bowl compared to other restaurants, but he said it had less tofu/seaweed than he had expected. We ordered the Red Line roll, the lemon roll, and one other roll (maybe the sumo roll? I forget which one). They were fine. The rolls were fine, but so many of them contain imitation crab, which I found disappointing. I don't find it adds very much to rolls, so I would have liked it if there were a few more options that didn't include it. I also found it surprising that our server put down the wrong roll, walked away, and when we she came back we asked if it was the right roll, she took it back (and presumably served it to the correct table). That has happened to me once at a different restaurant, and they told me to keep it as they couldn't reserve it to a different customer, but I suppose this might depend on the restaurant's policy as I've never worked in food service before. In any case, I would not be happy if my food were left unattended at another table before being served to me, so I personally wouldn't come here again. read more

We were at D&B but didn't want to eat there. This sushi place is right across the Main Street in the older strip mall. They are sneaky with the modest location. The whole experience was great. This was some of the better sushi I've had in recent years. Too bad it's a drive for me to Carlsbad...or maybe that's good. It could get expensive. It was busy on a Tuesday night, but staff was friendly and checked-in at a good pace. Most of their dishes are metal, even the ramen bowl and drinking glasses. It was dim lit, but not too dark. Arrived here with a friend mid-afternoon because we were looking for a snack and this place called to us while searching Yelp for ideas. So glad we stopped by! We had salmon nigiri (super fresh & tender), the tempura California roll (delicious), and the garlic edamame (too spicy for my friend so I ate most of it). So, we never really put in the details for our last review a month or so ago. We're a 90 minute commute away from Hooked on Sushi. This is our 2nd visit. We made this a culinary repeat point of interest to visit on a day trip. We love the food. The service is excellent and the location is perfect. It going to Legoland, this is perfectly convenient. If coming to and from San Diego up and down south or north from Los Angeles, Santa Monica, LAX, South Bay Beach Cities, Long Beach, Irvine, Orange County, San Juan Capistrano, Camp Pennington, San Clemente, Oceanside and all points in-between that brings you near Carlsbad... This used to be one of our favorite stops for sushi, but it seems to have changed a lot and gone downhill, maybe because of new management? When you walk in, there used to be a sushi bar you can sit at and watch sushi being made, that is no longer there, just extra tables. The prices have gone way up and we questioned the quality and freshness of some of the items on the menu. We ordered the special they were advertising outside, the aloha delight roll, the red line and their chicken katsu dinner that came with miso soup, salad and edamame. While the aloha roll was delicious, it had a fishy taste to it as did the red line roll. Their rolls never used to have that fishy taste. The server wasn't great, we could barely understand her, she was slow, and disappeared for long periods of time, it wasn't very busy when we were there. I ordered the sashimi combo, which came with two pieces each of salmon, tuna, and albacore sashimi along with a spicy tuna roll. The combo also came with miso soup and a salad for appetizers. The salad dressing in particular was very flavorful and umami. The sashimi tasted pretty fresh and the combo overall was a large portion of food. Possibly shareable with an additional appetizer. Surprisingly, it was busy on a Wednesday night. I walked in and was seated right away, but I noticed people coming and going as well as uber eats and door dash orders getting picked up. The hostesses were very attentive and kept the flow going. I was immediately offered the opportunity to order drinks. The menu had lots of pictures which is super helpful when it came to deciding to order. There is definitely the wide variety of appetizers, entrees, specialty rolls, hand rolls, and ramen. I wanted something a bit in the lighter side, but I couldn't decide because all of the pics looked so good. Asked my waitress, Jellina, and was super helpful. Appreciated the recs, and I ultimately went with the Carlsbad roll with the sunset carpaccio appetizer. She recommended the Carlsbad Lagoon, but I was afraid that since the carpaccio dish was already on the citrus spectrum, I didn't want to overdo it. I think in hindsight, I should have just gone for it. The navy blue decor definitely gives off the at sea vibe. The music was 80s-90s soft rock. The presentation of the food was fabulous and on point. The flavors of the carpaccio was great. I think it would have been even more exquisite if the pineapple was fresh, rather than canned. As far as the Carlsbad roll went, it was good, not great. The eel sauce on top was the only flavor on the roll, which is why I feel I could have went for the Carlsbad Lagoon and not felt that the flavors would be too overpowering. I was just worried that my taste palate would only be one sided tonight. All in all, everything was great. I would return for another meal. We came after our workout, and didn't feel too under dressed. The ambiance of the restaurant is great. I love the darker atmosphere and the decor. It's very nice. The sushi was up to par. It was definitely good but it was nothing out of the ordinary for a sushi restaurant. It was good. Next time I will try different specialty rolls and maybe they will be better. But the food was good. The broth from the ramen was some of the best I've ever had. It was excellent. The service was only okay. Our original waitress didn't come back to take our order, so another waitress came and asked if we were able to place our order, so we placed it with her. She ended up being the one serving us more often than our actual designated waitress, who only came to check up on us once during our visit. The other waitress came a couple more times than that. So the service was subpar, and because of this we didn't feel a tip was deserved. When you walk in, the hostesses ask " how many?" Without a smile, grab menus and you are expected to follow them. Once seated, they leave without any further comments. Next, somebody drops off a really cool water carafe and cups off at your table. Again no comments. Next they come by and take your order. No friendliness or recommendations. This used to be our favorite "go to." But we have decided after asking multiple times for no spice, no chili powder, no jalapenos multiple times, with no hi or thank you, we are "out!" Food is tasty, but there are better places out there. One Huge piece of advice train all of your staff with some basic customer service skills. If you can't do special requests like removing chili powder or jalapenos just say "no." Something changed in the past year and it's not for the better. read more
