So I've been here a couple times in the past but it's been at least 5 years since I've been back and I decided to make that happen on this visit to California. The place is a drive up/ walk up burger stand just off highway 76 in fallbrook, being the burger connoisseur I've always been when I heard about this place many years ago the funny theme of the Loch Ness Monster got my attention and then I heard about the burgers. This visit was again awesome and this burger was huge and really tasty it was definitely a bigger Burger than I remember and there was some flavor differences as well but still very good, I'm glad I decided to stop in once again because Nessy burger does not disappointing. I've seen this place pop up on my IG page a few times with great reviews, so while headed to San Diego, I decided to finally stop in and give it a try. It's a small, quaint little shop with walk-up windows and a few outdoor tables. The menu is pretty limited, and everything is à la carte. I will say, it's a little on the pricey side. I ordered **two cheeseburgers, a small fry, and a drink for $40**. I must admit, the burgers are HUGE, but unfortunately, they were pretty flavorless to me. They tasted more like a big chunk of ground beef without much seasoning or flavor. Overall, it was okay, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to stop here again. I can't believe I had one of the best steak sandwiches on the side of the road! It's a stand on the side of the highway and they open early. Ordered me a steak sandwich and added an egg cause it was eight in the morning--hehe. Boyfriend got the breakfast burger and it looked delish. We asked for them to cut them in half and glad we did cause portions are big and we were able to take both halves home for later. I also loved the onion rings---so crispy and crunchy. Easily the worst burger I've ever had in my life. The patties (if you can call them that), are like dried clods of unseasoned meat, compacted together to create an unappetizing puck of beef that tastes like it was cooked two days ago and reheated in an oven on low for 30 minutes. The meat has a very specific grittiness to it that is reminiscent of eating microwaved leftovers. I actually don't understand how the beef itself can be cooked fresh on a griddle and come out like this. If this burger patty was on the Bristol Chart it would definitely be a Level 2. Take the patty out and it will crumble apart like desiccated constipated stool. If this burger were served in prison, for free, it would be acceptable. But it is not free, it's 20 dollars or more for a standard combo! The outside area to eat is disgusting, with bees, animal feces on the tables and worse. The staff working seem to know how bad everything is and have accepted their fate as purveyors of absolute mediocrity. Very sad state of affairs at Nessy Burger. And it's a shame, because when they were next to the gas station, their burgers were so fresh, so juicy and really excellent. It's loud where you order so I asked for a turkey burger but got a regular beef burger. I later went another time and had the turkey burger which was really tasty and fresh. The burgers are large and have good toppings you can add pickles yourself which is nice. The onion rings are really good. The fries are good too. It's a large portion so you can share the fries and onion rings with a couple of people depending on how hungry you are. They have hot dogs and shakes. Very nice staff but hard to hear when you order. So you don't know what you ordered until you pay and get your receipt. You can order online so that might be a benefit to be sure you get what you ordered. read more

The hype is completely overrated. The best part of my experience was the chocolate milkshake. The clearly frozen, carnival-style wavy french fries were utterly tasteless. A burger joint should be able to perfect fries. It's basically 1/3 of the menu after the burgers and shakes. But a big miss here, which is disappointing. I only ordered them because I saw pictures from other reviewers of what appeared to be fresh cut fries. Perhaps that used to be the case and they just got lazy, cheap, or both. No ketchup or any condiments on the tables. You have to ask for it. As for the ketchup, they hand out some no-name brand of packets. If you're going to display the brand, it's got to be Heinz or at the very least, Hunt's. If you can't do that, them pump some bulk stuff into a small paper serving cup like at In-N-Out and hide the name and the shame. Now, as for the burger, it was probably a 1/2 lb. patty, but it was overshadowed by the oversized bun and the excess iceberg lettuce. Other than that, it did have decent flavor in its simplicity (onions, tomato and Thousand Islands being the other ingredients). Nessy Burger is one of our go-to spots. The food is always fresh, and the crinkle fries are easily my favorite. I love that they have sides like Thousand Island and jalapeños--it just hits. Nooooooooooo. Why did TikTok do me dirty?! I saw one TikTok and then - BOOM - watched a bunch others - and desperately wanted to try this burger. My son had a swim meet near it and I made a point to stop here after the meet...and noooooo.
