    Cheese fries with Cheese Whiz!

Have been coming here since around 2005. The cheesesteaks are delicious! Cheese fries with Cheese Whiz! They serve beer. Inside is all decked out in Philadelphia sports memorabilia. Cool place. Service is good. Restaurant has been here forever, it's clean inside. Restroom is nice and clean.

I'm from Philadelphia. I'm really partisan on this, but I was really happy that they had that Amaroso rolls from Philadelphia. That's a very authentic selling point. I thought that the meat and these cheesesteaks was kind of sparse, but it had good flavor and reminded me partially of home. I ordered two sets of french fries they weren't very good to be honest but all in all it's a decent cheesesteak place similar to the Philadelphia area.

Phillies Franks sucks. I just paid $15.00 for the smallest Philly cheese steak sandwich I have ever seen. I swear it was less than 4 Oz of meat . It really sucked. It was all bread. If you want to succeed you must put out fat sandwiches. For $15.00 it should have minimum twice the meat. The bag was so light I knew before looking at it that it was not going to be good.

Lemme tell ya somethin' right quick. Philly Franks ain't tryin' to impress nobody. This ain't no "artisanal cheesesteak experience" with microgreens and a dude named Trevor explainin' the provenance of the beef. Nah. This is the kinda jawn where you walk in and immediately feel like you should've worn your good sweatpants. First thing you see is the Amarosa rolls sittin' there like a care package from home. Six packs. For the exiled East Coasters who been wanderin' the desert west lookin' for salvation. You grab one and whisper "Go Birds" under your breath like a prayer. But here's the kicker. The thing that made me sit back and whisper "holy jawn" to myself. They got water ice. Not "Italian ice." Not "shaved ice." Not "snow cones." Wuddir ice. A dozen flavors deep. A rainbow of frozen Philly childhood trauma therapy. Cherry that stains your lips like you just fought someone behind a Wawa. Mango that tastes like summer in Wildwood. Lemon that hits you with that perfect sour slap. Blue raspberry that should be illegal but isn't because God loves us. The dining room? Bro. It's a time capsule. A couple Rocky posters, a faded Eagles banner, and some Philly relics that look like they were stolen from a South Street pawn shop in 1998. Nobody's here for ambiance. The ambiance is the sound of the flat-top hissin' and some guy in a faded Brian Dawkins tee orderin' "two to tree" sangwidges like he's callin' plays at the Linc. And the cheesesteak? Best one west of the Mississippi, swear on my mother's gravy. Meat chopped proper, cheese melted like it's tryin' to hug you, onions sweatin' harder than a Cowboys fan in December. You grab a sack of these beauties, waddle out to your car, and eat 'em in the front seat like the feral Delco rat you truly are. Grease on the steering wheel. Roll crumbs on your hoodie. Tears in your eyes. Pure joy. By the time you're halfway through, you're poundin' the dashboard yellin' "BIRDS" at nobody. A stranger walks by and you nod at him like, yeah, we from the same tribe. He knows. You know. The universe knows. Five stars. This jawn healed somethin' in me I didn't know was broken.

15 years and a lifetime later, I'm updating my review... My fiancé had been craving a philly cheesesteak for a while and I went along for the ride. No problem, let's head over to Philly Frank's. I hadn't been there in ages... Nothing really has changed in 15 years. Is that a good thing or bad thing? You decide. I'm assuming the owner (maybe she was an employee?) was working the register...I didn't really get a friendly vibe from her. Time hasn't been kind to the establishment- it's a bit run down. We sat outside on their small side patio with our dog. There were more pick up orders than anything else. The sandwiches were decent, as were the onion rings. Would I return? Meh. Time will tell...

THE BEST! Stopped in on New Year's Eve. Dining area was wide open with just a few customers, tables and entertainment place was spotless including the restroom. We ordered original Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and an order of fries with cheese (of course). Devoured it all!! So good and so filling as the portions are very generous. All the gals working look like they were related/owners family. I heard one of them telling another customer they just celebrated their 25th year in business. So thankful for hard working small business owners that make delicious food and keep it happening!

It's been years since I've been here but glad to see Philly Frank's still around. Was in the area and stopped by for a late lunch. The philly cheese steak here is still the best out of the different places I've tried. I like the works with provolone and hot peppers. You can pick whiz, provolone, or white American cheese options. We also tried an Italian hoagie for the first time. The cheese steak was way better so I would stick with that. Clean inside and friendly service.

Excited to try this place from all the good reviews but honestly a little underwhelmed. We got one the works cheese steak, one chicken steak hogie and an order of the frings. The cheese steak itself was solid with a nice soft roll but there was no wow factor. The chicken steak hogie was a little disappointing and honestly didn't taste too different from the chicken cheese steak at Charlie's. The onion rings also did not have much flavor as they were lacking some seasoning.

We came in for lunch & got cheese steak sandwiches. It was a little bland. Think I should have ordered peppers or mushrooms on the sandwich to add a little more flavor. Definitely have the cheese steak with cheese Friendly service. Plenty of parking. Small restaurant with about 10 tables. Tiny outside patio in a hallway.

Homestyle vibe that has been around for 25 years. The food was really good and fresh. I got The Works sandwich with sweet peppers and a side of fries. The sandwich was good but would have liked a little more flavor. The fries were great and had nice crispiness. The staff was nice and food came out on time.

Ask the Community - Philly Frank's Steaks

    Do they have vegan options?

Not sure why someone would ask this question - it is a place primarily for Cheesesteaks. They do offer some vegetarian options - but they don't have vegan cheese if that is what you are looking for.

    Do they use Amoroso rolls?

Yes they do! Great cheesesteaks. They also have Tastykakes and Wise chips. I think that they might have birch beer as well. Go and enjoy one!

I've been around the country and the world and while you may be an expert on pizza you didn't do your due diligence here. Pop ups are cool, but if the goal isn't a brick and mortar empire you're diluting the trademark and your own brand by stumbling out of the gate. The grease stained through the wrapper and the bag, the delivery driver wasn't even driving with it on his floor. It's almost as if the meat was fried and then cheese melted on top. I've never seen this much grease on any cheesesteak. The meat was overcooked (crispy) which is not what you should be going for, the bread was wrong (hoagies are cool, but you need some crust, the good one's are almost always amoroso or maybe house made). The cheese fell all the way out. More on the wrapper than in the sandwich. Mushrooms, peppers and onions were undercooked and under seasoned. If you're only going to have 4 options, try a little harder on the execution. Maybe it's the kitchen (Buca, I see you drop shipping for everyone). I don't know if you have your own team or are using theirs, but something isn't working. There price on ubereats is for a 6, but the uncharge to a 12 was wild. Wild, that's more than a standard 18" cheese pie in NYC. Not as good as the gold standard meatballs, sauce, and bread at Mona Lisa in Little Italy, but passable. The fries were hot and crisp, which is a rarity these days having been served so many that were mushy, limp, and barely warm. In addition to ketchup, there is a tasty side of ranch.
