The ingredients taste fresh, the buns are soft and toasted just right, and everything comes together exactly how a great burger should. Even the fries are excellent--crispy and seasoned well. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the whole place has a great atmosphere. This is a solid burger place! They have a variety of burgers and I like how you can get a 3 slider sampler to try different ones. They have a good selection of beer, milkshakes, and drinks. You order at the counter and they'll bring the food to your table. It's hard to find a burger place with all my favorites: an egg, bacon, and avocado. The bacon was crispy, the egg was medium and wasn't too runny, and the brioche bread was a little sweet and fluffy. They use angus beef for their patties. You can also split your fries which I love! I got to try the onion rings and sweet potato fries. I wish the sweet potato fries were crispy. They were more on the soggy side. The onion rings batter was a lil thicker than I like. The batter overpowered the onion. We also got the Cajun wings to try which was nice and crispy! They give you a few sauces on the side so you can dip it. I got the ranch which was so good with the wings, fries and burger. The milkshakes are pretty delicious! We got the classic vanilla one. I really enjoyed my visit to this place for an early dinner. One complaint is the workers could be a little more pleasant to interact with, but it wasn't horrible either. The order was right and they didn't cause any scenes from when I was there. Everything was kept clean and there was no particular area that I felt the need to avoid or ask to clean up. The food was the main star of the show - especially the smokehouse burger/slider. The flavor was all there and the patty was juicy and just over all delicious. The grilled chicken club was a little dry, but it was in a slider version so I imagine that's bound to happen. The cheeseburger slider was good, but not amazing - patty was still cooked enough to be juicy, and it was enjoyable. The fries were yummy, but not out of this world. It's possibly because I'm not the biggest fan of steak fries, but I'd eat them again. Overall, a great place to stop by in the area and would definitely visit again to try other items. We came with friends from church after service on Mother's Day. One family suggested this place and it seemed interesting from the Yelp! Reviews. It was early evening and the rush hasn't started. I got the Chorizo Diablo and my wife got their mushroom cheese burger along with fries and onion rings. They offer stubborn soda line so had the root beer. My burger was messy but delicious and my wife thought that her burger was a bit bland. I never consider mushroom burgers an option, always the beef for me! Fries and onion rings were tasty. Next time I'll try their fig jam sliders, this sounds interesting. There's plenty of seating both inside and out. And it's dog-friendly...we might bring our corgi the next time we come. I liked the option to try different burgers/sandwiches with the sliders option! I enjoyed all of the sliders, but note that they are pretty small! My favorite ended up being the grilled chicken one! We also tried the regular burger and the half fries and half onion rings and all were pretty good with a variety of dipping sauces! The food is mostly very good. Just a few complaints: my group approached to place an order around Noon 5/11/26. No greeting, no smile, just a blank stare from the order taker. Do they think they're so good that they have to be arrogant? At the best places that care about happy repeat customers, the order taker would at least have a hint of enthusiasm and say something like hi, welcome, maybe even with a smile. Another complaint is that you can't get just a handful of fries with your already costly sandwich, but have to pay $6.00 for a smallish pile of mostly mushy, uninspired fries that came from a frozen bag. And finally, lack of consistency. On my last visit I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was one of the best ever with a plump, juicy, perfectly fried chicken breast that mostly fit in the bun. This time it was a flat, overcooked breast that hung out all around the bun and no fun to eat. On the plus side, I appreciate their consistently excellent health inspection reports. read more

Burger Bench is pretty much everything you want a burger spot to be. Broad menu, great flavors, nice combinations of ingredients, fantastic sides, and an alright selection of drinks. I've only been here twice in the last six years or so, but I still have a pretty good overall view of this restaurant. This last time around, I had the Golden Rooster. It consisted of a thick slab of chicken breast, seasoned and fried, with a sweet coleslaw slaw, thinly sliced sour apples, and a tangy and spicy sauce on top. While I did think it was tasty, I must admit to being disappointed that I hadn't gotten a burger instead. The chicken itself was a bit too thick and I believe it would have been better as a hammered thinner cutlet instead of a larger breast. My son played it safe and opted for The Classic Burger with Bacon, minus the sauce and grilled onions. He's young, Yelp .. he'll learn. And my daughter very much enjoyed her Kids' Meal Cheeseburger Sliders. Also on the table were some outstandingly crispy Natural Fries, always pleasing Tater Tots, very tasty Beer-Battered Onion Rings, and surprisingly good Mini Corn Dogs. The latter had a nice, sweet batter, with a salty sausage inside for a tasty contrast and an excellent version of this classic. Being out in Escondido makes coming back here difficult. But, with a new location opened up in Vista, I will likely be able to come back and try more offerings off the menu here. And, admittedly, I very much look forward to doing so. read more

I've been to Burger Bench a handful of times and was very surprised I never reviewed them! Burger Bench is one of my favorites in the area for a good burger. They've been around for a while and they keep growing in popularity with a new location in Vista now- hooray! We decided to hit the easy button this past Saturday and the four of us went out (my partner, myself, and my two mini-me's). There was something for everyone. Order at the counter, get your number, get a table, they'll bring everything to you- including any beer you order. Once you sit down, they'll get you anything you need. So, while it's technically not table service, I wouldn't call it 'fast casual'. My partner and I shared a flight of sliders: a fig jam burger, chorizo burger, and smokehouse burger. My teenager loved his smokehouse burger and my tween and a half really enjoyed his chicken club sandwich. They nailed the cook temp perfectly on all the burgers- even the sliders which is hard to do since they're smaller. Every burger was cooked to a medium level- nice and pink in the middle. We also ordered their half and half appetizer for the table- garlic parmesan fries and onion rings for the table. I love their onion rings- beer battered onion rings are a thousand times better than breadcrumb crusted onion rings. Their tap list has something for everyone- IPAs, sours, and even a beloved local beer- cali creamin' on nitro. The slider flight is perfect for sharing when you want a little something but you don't want to leave feeling like a little oinker. Speaking of feeling like an oinker, if you choose to indulge and really go all in....get one of their milkshakes. Over the years, I've had them several times. All delicious. Was seeing a local show at the community theater and stopped here to get a bite to eat before the show. There was a special event and this place was packed, indicating just how good their food and fan base is. Upon walk in, you order at the counter and then get a number and seat yourself. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, and You can choose between patio seating and inside seating. Seating was ample enough where there would probably be enough seating on a normal day, but a bit difficult with the crowd on this day. I do like they ask you not to take tables up until your order, leaving it fair for everyone. We ordered and sat at a long bar type table and waited till a more comfortable table could open, we waited about 5 or so minutes for that. The food came out fresh and hot, full of flavor. The fries and tots had a perfect crunch, and were paired with your choice of an accompanying dip. We got chipotle, garlic aoli, and ranch. The burgers perfectly cooked with just a little pink. The soda machine serves Stubborn soda and my son instantly loved the root beer as it reminded him of sarsaparilla he loved at Knotts berry farm. The only suggestion I would have for this place is better ventilation, or cooling system, especially in the summer as Escondido gets toasty hot and with how packed it was, it added to the temperature. After being in the sun and eating hot food, it was really toasty and uncomfortable. Escondido parking can be either great or it can be terrible. We stopped by on a Friday evening on a whim. The place was crowded so we ended up sitting at the bar. Very loud, we could barely hear each other. The food was expensive for what it was. I got a slider sampler and while the meat was good the rest was forgettable. The bread was too crunchy and there was just too much extra going on - didn't seem like what I expect out of sliders. The fried were just average, though some of the sauces were unique and fun like the garlic aoli. The full burger was apparently better but still not enough to return for. Made a stop in for dinner before I left town for a few months, and let me tell you, if you're craving a good quality burger with fries that you can dip in a delicious house-made ranch, this is the place for you! When you walk in, the restaurant is very open and inviting with the menu posted and the wall and over the register, and the beer selection open for everyone to see. And the server is always patient when taking our order. We ordered a Sunrise Burger and the Golden Rooster Chicken Sandwich with a side of fries and ranch. The Sunrise Burger had a fried egg on it that was so good with the bacon inside. Every bite had so much flavor, and it was good quality meat. The patty was smaller than I thought it'd be, but nonetheless it was still so good. The fires were fresh and hot when we got them, and sipping them in the house made the ranch was a great combo. The Golden Rooster Chicken Sandwich had a sliced green apple and a bit of cinnamon in it, which sounds weird, but honestly, paired with the fried chicken pickles, it was so good. Came here on a chilly May weekday evening. There weren't too many people here but with the music playing and the hum of the street and staff, it provided a decent atmosphere for a meal. As soon as you walk in, you order. I would say that their menu looks creative. We had to pause and take a moment to decide what I wanted to order. I ended up ordering the chorizo burger because I thought it would give a little kick in terms of spice but the bite was pretty mild. As well as the onion rings, tater tots with Parmesan and truffle and the Inferno Fried Chicken which had their homemade slaw on it. The inferno was super flavorful and it would be my suggestion if you go. The truffle and Parmesan tots needs to be made with truffle oil rather than truffle salt. It wasn't super strong. It didn't really taste. They do have veggie and GF options if needed. We opted to sit on the patio high rise chairs because I had my dog. The outdoor part is spacious and open air. I am shocked at the customer service we received at this establishment today. It is unfortunate to have to write this as this has been a long time favorite of ours, but after this experience we will not be going back without a full refund and a change in the staff. We ordered about 25min before closing and were told we had to order to-go (we were willing to work with this as we were hungry and this really was a frequent favorite of our, but also a red flag because if you are open until 9pm you should be fully prepared to serve your customers until 9 and allow them at least 30min to finish after closing time). On top of that they let us order beer as long as we had it inside (which ended up being flat because they had turned off the taps- also fine with us at this point as we were trying to be understanding that it was closing soon). What was NOT fine was that as soon as the clock struck 9pm we were told we had to leave immediately without finishing our beer or food. The food prep was also clearly rushed and we were served burnt corn dogs which we got a refund due to the fact that it was clear they were not going to be bothered to remake them. The final straw of leaving our half glasses of flat beers, and running out with our leftovers was finding the burgers nearly raw inside when we went to finish them later. I am truly disappointed to have to write this as I think I have given it a good review in the past and we have some fun memories here. I don't know why this staff was so bent on getting out of there at 9 instead of serving your customers until 9. The blonde curly haired server was especially rude, but it would be worth looking into as we will be letting our large team that frequent Escondido for competitions that this is a place to avoid from now on. If you truly do not want to be open until 9pm please move it to 8:30pm. The staff was running around and it was stressful and clear they didn't want to be there 1min past 9pm. Fun place for casual burgers with a solid selection of beer. I went with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and had no trouble finding free street parking nearby. I was worried because the line to order at the counter was long, but it moved pretty quickly. Service was very fast even though it was busy and Dawn at the counter was so friendly and helpful! We both received our drinks the instant we sat down and our burgers very shortly thereafter. My friend and I both got the Classic burger, his minus tomato and mine plus bacon.
