    Poboy and Hawaiian chicken sandwich
    Martin G.

I tried the po'boy sandwich and the Hawaiian chicken sandwich, and both were pretty good overall. The po'boy had a nice amount of flavor and filling, and the bread paired well with everything inside. The Hawaiian chicken sandwich had a good balance of sweet and savory flavors from the pineapple and sauce. While neither sandwich completely wowed me, they were still enjoyable and satisfying. The portions were decent, and the service was quick. Overall, it was a solid meal and a nice spot to grab a casual bite to eat.

Delicious comfort food plus nice casual ambiance. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We came for dinner on a Saturday and sat outside on their patio to eat since it was a beautiful evening with nice weather. They have a good variety of selection on their menu including desserts. We ordered the Brisket Sandwich with the cole slaw on the side and their Avocado Bacon Burger which comes on a Brioche bun and generous amount of French Fries, which was the one side that I chose. Both items were delicious and a fairly good size. I think next time we will share lol so we can have room for dessert. The service was friendly and quick. I would like to come back and try the other items on their menu. Definitely recommend to try if in the area. It is was enjoyable to dine and people watch at the same time on Grand Avenue .

Located on Grand. Comfort food galore! They serve sandwiches, poutines, burgers, soups, wraps, desserts & salads. Friendly & attentive service! Mac & Cheese: Added brisket. This was a hearty dish, actually, all of their dishes are quite hearty so you will definitely be going home with leftovers. The dish was a bit bland. Country Poutine: Absolutely loved the gravy.

There are a lot of renovations going on to revamp the area. The restaurant was busy when we were there and service was good. The food was hit or miss. Half of us liked what we ordered and the other half didn't.

First time visiting H Brothers in Esco and I was really impressed! I immediately noticed there was no garage door here, unlike many other Grand Avenue establishments. I actually appreciated that because I'm a fan of good air conditioning. The restaurant is beautiful, clean and has a nice vibe. Service was welcoming and friendly. I arrived around 3:00 in the afternoon, just in time for Happy Hour. They feature a creative selection of loaded fries type fare at a roughly 30% discount off the regular menu price. I ordered the "Adobada Fries" and it was outstanding! Made with fresh cut fries that were hot and fairly crispy, a generous heaping of savory adobada, a cheese bechamel sauce, pickled jalaps, maters and a nice blob of cool sour cream on top. It came with two tasty dipping sauces on the side but that turned out to be unnecessary. There was nothing plain about these fries and the whole thing was nicely composed, hearty and delicious. I loved their thoughtful selection of craft beers on tap, enjoying a nice Harland IPA and Mango Hefeweizen. I look forward to visiting again soon to try their house mac & cheese.

Fun casual lunch spot! The menu is large and easy to read - it covers the wall! We ordered from the counter, got our drinks right away, and the servers brought the food to our table. They are very nice and stopped by a couple times to check on us. I had the tuna melt and was very impressed. They even fry cheese on the outside of the bread for a special touch. SO GOOD! My Pinot Grigio was also good, particularly since it was a healthy pour for only $5. Great drink prices. The garlic mashed potatoes had good flavor but I have to say they were a bit dry. My friend got the Cuban Torta and loved it as well. Practically inhaled it actually! He was also happy with his choice of Mexican lager.

It's an excellent quick-serve restaurant with an interesting and fairly diverse menu and a very good selection of beers on tap. They claim everything is made in-house daily. I got the Cheeseburger which comes on a big Brioche bun with remoulade sauce, two types of cheese, lettuce, and tomato. But no pickles, and most critically, no onions. Unlike most such places that make you buy a huge pile of fries for 40-50% of the cost of the burger, this burger includes your choice of several sides--I got the fries which were nothing special, but were hot and mostly crispy. The thickish burger was very good, but the meat itself was not very tasty or interesting, being cooked on a griddle but without the benefits of a smash style flavor and crispness. They should split the burger in half and griddle each half smash style. A minor complaint is the chopped rather than full pieces of lettuce, which makes the whole thing slip and slide around more while wrestling to eat it. Also, when chopped, lettuce loses much of that nice crunch you can get from whole pieces. And I really missed having onions--they should ask if you want them when ordering. Service is excellent and ambience fine. If Yelp allowed decimals, I'd give the place a 4.4. But I'll be back to try their many chicken sandwich and wrap options.

Friendly and attentive servers! Really appreciated the option to order a side of the poutine fries they were so good! I would highly recommend the brisket sandwich. If you want a sandwich this place is a must try! They've got an option for everybody.

We haven't been back to this restaurant in a while. But man, nothing has changed. The food is absolutely amazing. The chili was a big hit with us. It's was so good! Everything was good. My chicken sandwich those onion rings, we loved them! The brisket was so tender. Had so much flavor. We need to come to this restaurant more often. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my family and friends.

Amazing spot for comfort food! The menu is huge and covers an entire wall. You order at the counter and then servers will bring food to table. The service was great and quick! There's indoor and outdoor sitting with a cool ambiance. I was impressed by all the items we tried! The Cuban torta was delicious and my favorite item that I tried! The French friends and onion rings are also especially delicious! Great place!

Flight of 5 ounce beers. Very nice.

I had this restaurant bookmarked forever and I am glad I finally got in to try it out. I did not realize it is an order at the counter kind of place but, whatever, it works for me. You order at the counter and then grab a table. The soda machine is self-serve. The interior is super cute and there is patio seating, too. We tried the Monte Cristo, the Bacon Cheeseburger, and the country poutine. I also tried a beer flight. Everything was terrific. I am not usually a Monte Cristo fan but this one was very well made and delicious. Monte Cristos can be very greasy and heavy but this one was not greasy or heavy and it had a ton of flavor. It comes with both jam and syrup on the side. Also, this sandwich does NOT come with a side. The bacon cheeseburger was very well made and was great. It comes with a side and I tried the hush puppies. The hush puppies were the only disappointment of the evening. They were extremely dense and heavy. The flavor was good but I think lighter and airier hush puppies are simply better. The honey-flavored butter which comes with the hush puppies was insanely good. Finally, if there is poutine on a menu, I am ordering it. I know it's just Canadian junk food but whatever. SoCal has loaded nachos and Canada has poutine. H Brothers has a regular poutine (with gravy and cheese curds) and a "country" version which comes with gravy, curds, and fried chicken bites. Because we wanted to make absolutely sure we hit 20,000 calories, we went with the country version. They absolutely smother the fries with gravy and cheese curds. I don't know that the chicken bites are necessary but this is a great dish, if you don't mind gaining 5 pounds at one sitting. They only have a handful of beers on draft but they are good ones. My flight of three beers in 5 ounce taster glasses was very good. Even though they do not technically have designated servers, one of the workers stopped by our table every few minutes to make sure everything was going well. So our service was excellent. The menu is very well-written and makes you want to try more things. From reading past reviews, I know there are some hits and misses with the food, but our experience was very good. We would happily return to try out more grub.

Always a great place to grab a bite and pint of beer! Note: they assign you a table so don't make the mistake that this one lady did who hogged the line and grabbed a table for herself, oblivious to that fact and sparking annoyed looks and grumbles to people that were patiently waiting in line, lol. You order you food and then they seat you accordingly. You're welcome. The co-habby and I always make it a point to stop by H Brothers whenever we're in the Escondido area. They offer a variety of different beers so there is always something for everyone. The hubby is a fan of IPAs so that's his usual go-to. What we've tried there: -Fried Shrimp PoBoy: Lettuce, tomato, fried shrimp, remoulade sauce on toasted bread -Monte Cristo Sandwich: Probably one of my favorite monte cristo's in town! Ham and swiss cheese sandwich dipped in batter and fried up until crispy, then dusted with powdered sugar. Divine. -Poutine: Fries with gravy and cheese curds. Yum. Service is always fast and friendly, beer delish and food, comforting and satisfying. Check them out!

Ask the Community - H Brothers

How is parking here during lunchtime on a weekday?

The parking is along Grand Ave. (On the street) or on a side street just off Grand Ave.....It's always pretty decent parking during lunch on weekdays. You can almost always find a spot.

Do they have gluten free options? Or a website?

Not sure on the gluten-free, since it is a fairly small menu currently. Have not seen the website, but they are on Facebook. Just look up H brothers Escondido.

From that first pasta, I tried the March Month Special, I got the chopped cheese with no cheese (lactose intolerant) but man did I devour it so fast!! There tater tots never miss btw ALWAYS crispy. The Grilled Chicken Sando, mannn was thay superr good too. Chicken was juicy and always love me some avocado. I told my brother I am going to make it a priority to try everything I cam here. Also, the presentation on the plates ESPECIALLY the Fresno 1/2 Chicken *chefs kiss* The service is NEVER misses. Soo attentive no matter the time of day. Tony's drinks are UH-MAY-ZING. We had Mckellen as our server and he was great. The biggest shoutout to James (the owner) seems like he knows how to create a phenomenal work environment and keeps his people happy. Also, try the Espresso Martini my brother who is far from a coffee drinker even loves it!!

They serve a fair variety of sandwiches and other little items to buy such as coffee and cookies. The location is small with about a total of 5 seating areas including both inside, and out. For service they're all very friendly since it's primarily the family owners who serve you. You go up to the front and place your order and they'll bring the food you order to your table, they do close early since this is a breakfast spot first and foremost, so expect to arrive early if you want to eat here. I usually order The Works in a half since a full size sandwich is well over $20, excluding any additions or substitutions you may make. The sandwich does taste really good, but it does come at a steep price. They've grown in popularity over the years, which may have influenced their pricing (by a lot) which in my opinion does outweigh it's value. While I do enjoy my infrequent visits, I can say this location is more of an occasional treat, as opposed to a constant meal to be had often.

The menu is fairly large, with lots of meat and side options. We were able to review the menu while the ladies in front of us finished placing their orders (and once the owner adjusted the TVs to be able to show the menus again.) We hadn't eaten anything that day, so we went in knowing we were going to be hungry. The sweet young lady working the counter that day welcomed us in and answered all my questions (what's the soup of the day? navy bean; what comes in the combo? ribs, ham, brisket, bread and two sides) before taking our order and our money. We ended up sharing the combo (with potato salad and onion rings for the sides) and my husband got an extra brisket sandwich because he thought the one plate wouldn't be enough to fill us up. The food came quickly, which was both good and bad. Good because we were, as mentioned, starving. Bad because - well, not "bad" per se, but not ideal - we got the feeling the food had been sitting for a while. And that's really the only knock I have on the meal: that the meat felt a bit tougher than I'm sure it was meant to be, just because we were eating so late in the afternoon. I'm sure it would have been much more tender had we arrived earlier. Still, we had no problems polishing off both the combo plate and my husband's sandwich (which I didn't get a chance to try...I was worried I'd lose a finger if I tried to go in for a nibble). I did enjoy the ribs and the brisket; the ham was my least favorite thing in the combo. It felt a little too bland compared to the other meat offerings, which were smoky and meaty. The onion rings were served with ranch dressing and the potato salad had a nice bite to it - from both the ingredients and the flavors. I think we'd go back, the next time we're in the area, but I don't think we'll go in at such an "off" hour.

I was nervous about the new ownership, and unfortunately, my concerns were justified. This was my first time back, and it is definitely not the same food. When I asked if the recipes were the same, the staff gave a non-committal "I think so," but the meal told a different story: The Price: $20 for a single plate is a significant jump. The Meat: I ordered my regular ham and tri-tip combo. Both were disappointing--a mix of fat and overcooked, dried-out, bland meat. The Sauce: The original homemade sauce was delicious and consistent for decades. This new version tastes like generic, bottled sauce straight off a grocery store shelf. The sides: the potato salad used to be perfect and clearly made in-house. Now, it tastes like mass-produced deli salad from a supermarket. It's such a bummer. I don't understand why new owners take over a successful institution that has been a staple since the 70s only to change the recipes for the worse. I've seen this happen recently at other local spots like **Peterson's Donut Corner**, where the quality has dipped and they've stopped taking cash. If you want a taste of "old Escondido" that actually stays true to its roots, go to **Bamboo House**. I went there recently after years away, and it was like a flashback to being a kid--same friendly service, same great prices, and the same delicious food they've been serving for over 30 years. Sadly, The Wrangler aka El Flako's Wrangler Barbecue, has lost a lifelong customer. It's just not the same place anymore.

It's the ultimate comfort food, especially on a chilly day or when you're not feeling well. Truly a 10/10. We often order through DoorDash, and they always do an excellent job packaging everything so it arrives hot, fresh, and spill-free, which I really appreciate. Beyond the soup, we've also ordered the taquitos, burritos, and quesadillas, and all of them are delicious--but the chicken soup is hands-down the star of the show. I cannot recommend Lourdes enough. If you're looking for comforting, high-quality food that never disappoints, this is the place.

The food is very good. But service and quantity is lacking. Spent 100$ on 6 people. But Wasn't offered a recipe, and she did not give the discount. 2 burritos weren't hot enough to melt the cheese. The tacos came out with chicken (beef was ordered). I Immediately said that I ordered beef before the lady (who was apologetic and kind) even left. She took it back and then the cashier came out with the receipt and waved it in my face and said 'you ordered chicken'. I nicely said 'No, I don't even eat chicken. I ordered beef' and she reluctantly huffed away. It was corrected. But the side of beans and rice was COLD by the time they got the right tacos on the plate and brought it back to me. The seating area is nice and the food is good. But I won't be going back after being treated like that after dropping 100$ for lunch.

The ambiance has a cozy, homey diner vibe. The only thing I would change is the coffee quality. Otherwise, this spot always hits.

I was directly across the floor from Feliks and her family. Feliks and her family came in and were seated by the side door, next to the coffee and orange juice machines. Feliks said she was in a hurry and wanted to order at that moment, basically cutting in front of two other customers. First off.... Francine is one of the best servers in the place. Always greets with a smile and if you're a regular, you may be lucky enough for a little playful banter from her. Feliks didn't wait 20 minutes for coffee. She waited about 5 or 6 minutes tops. You asked about eggs. She asked how you'd like them and you never answered her. So, when she asked again, you got crabby and condescendingly said, "Scrambled" then asked for another server. There was nothing calm about your offensive behavior, wanting the entire check to be comped. You were the bully!! In fact, YOUR behavior made MY dining experience not so pleasurable, so, thanks for that. It's rare that Nima, the owner isn't there on a Sunday, but even restaurant owners have lives outside of work. Next time you're in a total hurry, try not going out to eat at a popular eatablishment on a Sunday beforehand. Not only will you be happier, but the gals at Pegah's won't have to put up with your shit.
