My visit to George's Burgers started off disappointing when we arrived shortly after 10am and immediately noticed a strange smell inside the nearly empty restaurant. There was only one cook and one cashier, and although the cashier was somewhat friendly, her attitude and expressions made the interaction feel uncomfortable. The food took a while to come out, the restroom was dirty with a strong odor, and the burgers tasted unfresh while the fries were just okay and the zucchini had a strange flavor. The chili cheese fries were especially bad, the chili tasted burnt, and after only a couple small bites we couldn't eat them. When I asked for a refund on the chili cheese fries, the cashier hesitated because we had taken a few tiny bites, and although the cook eventually approved it, the poor customer service and low food quality, we will never return here again. read more

A local staple for decades near the heart of downtown Escondido. This shop has been in business for a VERY long time, everyone knows about George's. It's been awhile since I've been and wanted to check them out. The menu has definitely expanded from Greek options to burgers, wings and pizza. It was slow and short staffed, one gal at the register and one cook in the back but it wasn't too busy for a quick lunch break run. Food was good, but it's definitely fluffed up by a lot of shredded lettuce, but a decently cooked burger. The fries were good, but I didn't notice too much of a different in the size of a small vs regular fry either. read more

I hate to leave a bad review because I genuinely really liked this place but this is disgusting! I had to throw away a recently opened salad because I found a dead fly In it and a bug on other side of the salad! Mind you this was about to be the first bite!! Who knows how long that thing was flying around in my food. For a place that charges $25 for a salad,fry and extra ranch (that they forgot to put in the bag) they need to pay better attention to their food and wash the lettuce! The cook staff as well, has on occasion chimed into the conversation on the several, yes several times I have frequented this location. Food is really good. You have a great mix of Greek and American food. They have pizza, gyros, salads, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and all the sides. This place has a small town feel. I didn't catch the name of the girl at the counter, but she was great. We would have made a mistake and ordered a large salad if she hadn't told us how big it was, so thank you, we don't like to waste food. I got the garden burger. My father got the wings: They did not have any coffee. I ways start with the fries, Which I slowly eat, then I notice an old trash still left over on the floor, everytime I take bite then continue to notice it. The burger was great, glad that this place cooked it the way I liked it cooked without even telling them how well done cook I liked it. I think this is almost the same as the Georges Burgers in San Marcos? Maybe a franchise? But all in all the food os great, the only thing that gets me is the dirty floor with the something that is just chilling. read more

This place was a favorite of mine because the Gyro was always great! The meat was always perfect, and it matters to me! Recently, 2 times out of 4, I would've went somewhere else altogether. This particular time the meat was cut super thick and chunky, only like 2 strips were the right thickness but not cooked well, or to that golden brown perfection. If this is normal for the "Gyro Sandwich" somehow, please let me know so I can update my review. I have ordered this b4 but mostly the get the "Gyro Salad". Seems like meat would be the same tho. After 10 years of not being in a George burgers I would like to say that I was pleasantly surprised we got there just after opening on Sunday and we were the first customers. The young lady behind the counter wearing The Nightmare Before Christmas shirt was very pleasing very helpful and the cook was a very nice guy and since my wife had just come out of surgery and was deaf they were very accommodating. We ordered a gyro sandwich and also a chili burger combo with chili fries and I must say that this food was excellent. The chili fries were amazing. Unfortunately due to my wife's surgery she became ill and she needed to use the restroom and there was somebody in there, the young lady behind the counter let us use the employee bathroom for this emergency which really showed me how much they cared. And I really appreciate the links that she went through to help me. So far I have not found any reason why anybody would not enjoy going to George burgers, we have been patrons since the original George burgers in the 1970s in San Marcos, and we we will be patrons for a long time ago. I must say, it reminds me of my favorite old style greasy spoon burger joints like Ox or Douglas Burgers in LA, it's great to have these out here in San Diego county too. Food was good, large portions and service with spunk and a smile. Place is small but accommodating. Super disappointed with the experience we had last night. Had a $60 takeout order for a grilled chicken salad and 3 cheeseburgers with sides. The chicken was so horridly overcooked the ends of each piece looked like rubber. And the patties in ALL the burgers were so overcooked it took effort to even chew them. My kids refused to take more than one bite. The restaurant was absolutely dead I was the only order at the time so being busy can't be used as an excuse, which makes the lack of effort the cooks put in even more pathetic. We were in the area to take our son to the Children's Discovery Museum next door. Unfortunately, I didn't order/pickup the food due to our sleeping toddler -- I stayed in the car with him, while my husband got the food (service was a bit slow). They make a damn good garden burger! It was so simple, but they packed it with so many delicious and fresh ingredients. The fries were really good too! My husband got the chili cheeseburger (he said it was good) & we got a corn dog for our son (he picked at it much later). I would definitely grab a bite from George's again the next time we're in the area. Apparently they're adding falafel to the menu next week -- keep an eye out for that my fellow vegetarian peeps! Stopped in last night on our way home from a busy day. Ordered a 1/2 pd. Cheeseburger and a pastrami with a large fries . When we got home and opened the bag we were shocked to see how few fries there were. The pastrami was pathetic. More bread than anything else . The burger was tasteless. It was $32 for 2 sandwiches and a very small potion of fries , none of which was worth going back for. So I was cruising down Broadway in Escondido contemplating lunch about a month or so ago craving something filling. I spy with my hungry eye a George Burger sign so I pull in to their lot across from Grape Park. Maaaaaaaaaaaan bingo bango did I score. Michelle was one of two girls ( Leslie was the shorter one ) that worked the front counter . Not only was she fast and efficient she knew all about the place. Bought in 1976 she knew who was who and when they became who !!! I thought that was pretty cool. Now the food. Be still my heart !! I asked for the biggest burger they had in a meal. I got what I asked for. A whole 1/2 pound of beef with fresh lettuce, cheese, onions and a sauce that I couldn't quite figure out. Not that I didn't know or had never seen it before, this burger was awesome !! I had officially found the best Hamburger in Escondido. I have eaten and yelped many a place in North County San Diego on everything from steak to Chinese food and beyond. It takes a special place to not only bring me back but brag about. This is the place. Accompanied with a huge order of fresh hot fries that came a little too salty for me and free refills I walked out stuffed and satisfied for less than $15. A solid four stars, just because . . . Really was pretty darn good. Standoutish! I haven't eaten at a George Burger in some years and I've never eaten at this Escondido location. I wasn't necessarily expecting this high quality of food, so I was definitely surprised. The serving sizes were very good. Fries and rings were overflowing in the bag. I had the 1/4 lb w/cheese burger meal. The burger was tall and well loaded with super fresh 'everything'. The fries were pretty much on point and the onion rings definitely rank up there. Service was really friendly and prompt. Much of the staff that was working the counter and behind in the kitchen seemed to know just about everyone (obviously repeat locals), and the (I suspect) manager was taking orders on the phone in one hand, calling out orders to the kitchen and filling different orders with the other free hand. He was pretty crazy to watch and seemed to be having a pretty good time. I think I may be doing this again when the next time I have my vehicle serviced next door. Unfortunately, when I got home, I prayed that the bug on the lid of the drink, that I was ALREADY drinking from was on the outside of the lid.
