No gloves while handling ready-to-eat fresh fruit -- and I also saw cooks handling salads and sandwiches with their bare hands. California Health and Safety Code § 113961(b) requires ready-to-eat food to be handled without bare-hand contact, using a barrier such as gloves, tongs, deli tissue, or another appropriate utensil. Last night, I came in and ended up giving my food away because I was so uncomfortable with what I saw. After cleaning the restroom, an employee immediately went over to handle and cut my fruit with her bare hands and then served it to me. That was extremely concerning from a food-safety standpoint. Employees are being paid to prepare and serve food safely, and basic sanitation should be the bare minimum when handling fresh produce and other ready-to-eat foods. I have photos showing employees handling food with their bare hands. I plan to contact the manager and, depending on how this is addressed, the San Diego County health department as well. The food quality and sanitation standards seem to have gone downhill. I hope management takes this seriously and corrects the issue immediately. There's absolutely no reason why any bare hand should be touching customers, fruit or food. This is supposed to be marketed as "fresh food @ and produce, but it loses that quality as soon as employees touch with their bare hands they are not at their house preparing food they're at an establishment. The food is good, but the service is not. I don't think they really have any formal training in customer services. They don't greet you when you walk in, instead of letting you know they are ready to take your order they stand there and look at you. The tables are chronically dirty. I don't think I've ever come in to this place and the tables were actually clean. Not to mention there is not much space for people to eat and the interior is very grungy and contributes to the establishment looking dirty. Customer service is the worst. I placed an order on the phone. They said it will be done 15 minutes . I get there. Walked in to find very friendly staff and a very clean restaurant. I ordered a small acai bowl and I customized it with no banana or strawberries but added pineapple. I've been coming here for years. Love everything. The tortas are amazing the fruit salads and pico de gallo are wonderful and all of their fruit drinks and smoothies are delicious. I was there this morning and had a ham and egg bagel they put jalapeños too! If you haven't been...it's a must try. The place is very, very clean and well kept. They have a tv and if there is a soccer game going they'll have it playing which is cool. Parking.....well it's a busy location but you can always find a spot. Easily one of the worst experiences of my life. The pictures should speak for themselves. I'm pretty sure Stevie Wonder could have made me a better sandwich. Whoever was working the register not only hated me but I think she also must have hated herself too considering how she talks to customers. The staff are always friendly and very clearly hardworking. The tortas are packed with meat (or tuna) and taste very freshly made. I've had a few smoothies from here and they have a nice consistency and good flavor. Pico de Gallo is yummy as well as their bionicos. Que Tortas has a variety of food selections, but if you are going to come here, you have to try their tortas. My favorite is the tuna torta with everything on it (avocado, jalapeño, tomato and onion). The torta also has a delicious sauce/spread.
