One of go-to bars for good food and fun trivia nights (Weds-Family Fued, Thur-Trivia). As a metalhead I appreciate the cool dark aesthetic and the tvs displaying videogames, anime, and cartoon classics. Staff is attentive and seem like they really care about people having a fun, chill time. Always clean. Dog friendly and they have a cool patio in the back that has been used at times for events. The burgers are smaller than some other places but they come with fries which fill you up leaving you very satisfied with the quality of the meal. Highly recommend :) read more

First time here for Trivia night! Brewery pub feel. They also have retail (sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats etc) love the cute pins too! Skateboards. They have tables and bar stools etc. Mixed seating. They have a selection of brews, I tried a seltzer because I don't drink beer. The kitchen closes early, last call is around 8pm. Burgers and fries variations and a hot dog. Only thing is I wish they had chicken wings! Bummed about that, especially for a pub? Their fries were my fav, hot and crispy! Seasoned well. They have free parking, which is a bonus. They are located in Escondido, San Diego. Sunset Trivia night on 7pm Thursdays! Awesome host Jason did an entertaining job. read more

Black Plague Brewing - Beer Bar Near Me - Escondido, California

We tried this place for the first time after driving by it for the last couple of years. Our usual m.o. is to have two, maybe three beers, an app and leave happy. We left after one beer and a half eaten batch of fries. The problem? Service was uninspiring, mostly attending to either an associate or friend sitting at the end the bar. Smiles or attentiveness was at a minimum. There was a blond haired lady who came in later who seemed much more enthusiastic about things, but we weren't being taken care of by her. Beer selection seemed good for those looking for a lager but the ale selections were meh. Nothing with much of a kick if you know what I mean. All and all, we probably won't be back here for the above reasons. No doubt some might like the theme of the place, but for me, not so much. read more

Walked in on a Friday night and was greeted right away. It was a busy inside most of the tables and bar area were being used. Luckily, a small party left by the time we ordered our drinks and we were able to snag a seat at the bar. Later I found out there was more seating outside in their patio. The staff was attentive, and beer was good, overall an enjoyable experience. read more

Black Plague Brewing - Gothic Mexican Lager - Beer Bar Near Me - Escondido, California

Great beers, burgers, and service. The ambiance is cozy yet edgy with black walls and goth/metal art, yet comfortable and family friendly. They also have trivia a couple days a week where they give out their gift cards and it's free to play. Highly recommend if you're looking for a good brewery in North County. read more

Black Plague Brewing - Beer Bar Near Me - Escondido, California

Nestled in the heart of downtown Escondido, Full Metal Burger / Black Plague Brewing Esco is a shrine to the unholy trinity of killer food, heavy riffs, and dark brews. This metal burger joint delivers smashed-patty perfection with burgers so juicy they'll melt your face (or gently sear if you go with a vegan option!). Pair your meal with a pint of Black Plague Brewing's sinister creations--beers like "Gothica" and "Purgatory IPA" are the perfect companions to this devilishly delicious lineup. If that's not your jam there are plenty of non-alcoholic options from Liquid Death to Coca-Cola (Pepsi is never okay). TL;DR Tasty burgers! Great spot for a beer and burger combo. Your Thoughts? 1/2 While I can't recall the specific type of burger I had, it was surprisingly tasty. Often, bar food doesn't live up to expectations, but this spot delivered a flavorful and satisfying burger that stood out. Perfect spot for a beer & burger combo. Expenses: 1/1 Not cheap, but standard for bars. Felt fair considering the flavor. Location: 1/1 Friendly staff, able to pay via debit card. Possibility of a Future Visit & Recommendation: 1/1 Given the unexpectedly delightful burger, I'm more inclined to return and perhaps explore more of their menu, especially to see if other dishes match the burger's impressive flavor. read more

This place is AWESOME!!!!! This is the coolest brewery/bar I've ever been to! First off, it is punk as heck! Everything inside is black and they play metal music, and they have SO MUCH cool merch! They sell hats, pins, sweaters, shirts, and more! They have alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as food. The employees were very friendly and the service was fast. You can sit inside or outside in their back patio. I'll definitely be back! read more

Black Plague Brewing - a black dog resting on a table with fries and ketchup - Beer Bar Near Me - Escondido, California

The atmosphere at Black Plague brewing was very friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. Probably some of the best burgers we've had and the nods to some of the greatest metal song and bands was a great nod. The beer selection on tap offered a choice for any beer drinker regardless of taste. read more

We stopped here after visiting the safari park. It was an excellent decision. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, full of regulars. The service was prompt, professional, and warm. We had two beers (a fiestbier and a dark Mexican lager) and a plate of yummy fries. It's a great stop. read more

Great beer, excellent service. Kristen knows her stuff! We're here from Chicago and will be back.

REALLY good craft beer here, folks. I'm picky and enjoyed each of the four I tried: Incognito, Tony Hawks, Purgatory Pale, Details IPA collab. Seems like you can't go wrong. Full Metal Single cheeseburger was very good. Bun was good. May have been chilled down a bit by the veg. Can't specify doneness. Regular fries were pretty basic but generous portion. Wanted to try loaded Berserker Fries, but no 1/2 portion at this location :( Service was attentive and pleasant. Come for the beer! read more

Super cool brewery founded by former pro-skateboarders from Oceanside (apparently this is the second site for the Black Plague. You will get the vibe of metal, darkness with a touch of fresh beer and lots of fun. I loved the black walls with cool artwork and the patio with more of a chill vibe. You will always see a lot of locals enjoying their burger, fries and beer, but you won't feel like a newcomer either. Everyone is super welcoming and this place gives Escondido a really cool factor. read more

I got kicked out during last call, but man do they have some amazing staple beers!! Don't skip the Medusa!!

I've visited several times and have generally enjoyed my experience, but I was surprised to see an 8.25% credit card fee added to my bill today. Rather than passing this cost directly to customers as a fee, wouldn't it make more sense to adjust the menu prices accordingly? I'm not sure if the fee is listed on the menu, but I only noticed one sign about it at the register, which could easily be missed. Combined with the underwhelming service during this visit, this experience has made me reconsider returning to Black Plague. read more

I went here for trivia with my family, and while I can't speak to the beer as I didn't have any that night, the food was terrible. We got the chicken strips, wedge salad, and fries. The chicken strips tasted like Tyson's put in the air fryer. The vibe was OK, but it was FREEZING inside. I can't imagine why they insist on keeping the front and back doors wide open on a cold night. read more

Cool tasting room with a cool burger joint located inside. Convenient parking in a good sized lot adjacent the tasting room, with additional spaces along the street frontage. Good atmosphere with a dark/gothic theme throughout. Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable staff. Spacious inside with plenty of seating that carries onto a pleasant back patio with more seating, awnings offering plenty of shade, and an opportunity to sit and enjoy whatever you're having in the nice weather, weather permitting. PROS - They offer a variety of NA options, and the con joined burger joint has vegan options. CONS - A classic shoe. Recommend the Chuck 70's. read more

A disappointing sight to witness yesterday on my first visit here. An older gentleman had ordered a lot of food for takeout, they stuffed his bag literally until food was spilling out. He wanted to peak in to make sure he got everything he ordered and one of his burgers fell on the floor. Employees acted so rudely. They made him wait another 20 minutes to get his replacement burger not even trying to put a rush on it so the rest of his very large order just sat there getting soggy and cold. Not a single employee offered him a seat or a beer or any amount of sympathy. At no point did they check on him to let him know the burger is coming...nothing. As soon as he left they mocked and belittled this man, calling his names and cursing him right in front of us. It was gross. I felt terrible for that man. It takes so little effort to be kind, especially to YOUR customers. We were going to eat but promptly left, shocked and disappointed by the display of humanity I won't be back. Shame too, the place looked cool but I can't support that kind of business. read more

Black Plague Brewing - Beer Bar Near Me - Escondido, California

I came here for a quick visit with some friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. For those who know me, know that I'm not much of a drinker, let alone a beer drinker. But if you are looking for a cool place with a unique vibe to grab a beer, I highly recommend Black Plague Purgatory Lounge in Escondido, CA. I learned that Black Plague Brewing was founded by former pro-skateboarder Jordan Hoffart and Jarred Doss in Oceanside, CA in 2017. Once inside, you'll immediately notice the unique wall art, decor and super cool vibe. At the "Purgatory Lounge", you get to choose from a handful of taps devoted to signature beers like Bring Out Your Dead American IPA, Tony Hawps West Coast IPA, and In My Darkest Sour. I sipped on a few beers and surprisingly they were really good. I definitely want to go back and try their highly rated burgers. There's a designated parking lot and the service here is top notch. The bartenders are extremely well versed and professional. If you're in the mood for some good food, craft beers and an amazing vibe, definitely check out Black Plague Purgatory! read more

The atmosphere at this place is a dang delight; the decor, the layout of the indoor and outdoor areas, and everyone who works here just make this a great place to be. The beer selection is quality and the quantity is fairly expansive for the size of the place. The food partner Full Metal Burgers is also quality (both humans and grub). Definitely grateful for a place with a lot of opening hours compared to the other local spots that close up early or only operate a few days a week. This spot makes it easy to keep your eat and drink dollars in town instead of venturing out. Also their swag is surprisingly NICE; the designs are fantastic and the quality is exceptional - very good value for the money compared to a lot of other places. read more

I've been bugging their Instagram account about when they would open and today was the day! The location is off Valley one street parallel to Grand Ave and has some parking too. I walked in and easily found the tap list as well as where to order. The staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. They have very reasonable prices with sizes from taster to half pint to pint. They have IPA's, a couple of sours, a stout and quite a few other styles too. I went with a few half pints to start. The executioner was my favorite as a double IPA. Really well balanced and easy to drink. I finished with a very solid stout. There is an indoor and an outdoor area too. The kitchen will open soon (possibly Monday) which is cool too. As a bonus I met the CEO and his wife too. They were so friendly and nice enough to talk with me for a while. It definitely makes me want to continue to support this tap room and their beers. They are going to be a great addition to the Escondido community. For great service, with great beer made by nice people, this is the place! read more

Lets me start off by saying they advertise this bar as a "Heavy metal bar" and I was excited to go as there aren't many nearby. The music was anything but heavy metal it was the synth pop bullshit.
