One of go-to bars for good food and fun trivia nights (Weds-Family Fued, Thur-Trivia). As a metalhead I appreciate the cool dark aesthetic and the tvs displaying videogames, anime, and cartoon classics. Staff is attentive and seem like they really care about people having a fun, chill time. Always clean. Dog friendly and they have a cool patio in the back that has been used at times for events. First time here for Trivia night! Brewery pub feel. They also have retail (sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats etc) love the cute pins too! Skateboards. They have tables and bar stools etc. Mixed seating. They have a selection of brews, I tried a seltzer because I don't drink beer. The kitchen closes early, last call is around 8pm. Burgers and fries variations and a hot dog. Smiles or attentiveness was at a minimum. There was a blond haired lady who came in later who seemed much more enthusiastic about things, but we weren't being taken care of by her. Rather than passing this cost directly to customers as a fee, wouldn't it make more sense to adjust the menu prices accordingly? Super cool brewery founded by former pro-skateboarders from Oceanside (apparently this is the second site for the Black Plague. You will get the vibe of metal, darkness with a touch of fresh beer and lots of fun. I loved the black walls with cool artwork and the patio with more of a chill vibe. A disappointing sight to witness yesterday on my first visit here. An older gentleman had ordered a lot of food for takeout, they stuffed his bag literally until food was spilling out. He wanted to peak in to make sure he got everything he ordered and one of his burgers fell on the floor. Employees acted so rudely. They made him wait another 20 minutes to get his replacement burger not even trying to put a rush on it so the rest of his very large order just sat there getting soggy and cold. Not a single employee offered him a seat or a beer or any amount of sympathy. At no point did they check on him to let him know the burger is coming...nothing. As soon as he left they mocked and belittled this man, calling his names and cursing him right in front of us. It was gross. I felt terrible for that man. It takes so little effort to be kind, especially to YOUR customers. We were going to eat but promptly left, shocked and disappointed by the display of humanity I won't be back. I learned that Black Plague Brewing was founded by former pro-skateboarder Jordan Hoffart and Jarred Doss in Oceanside, CA in 2017. Once inside, you'll immediately notice the unique wall art, decor and super cool vibe. At the "Purgatory Lounge", you get to choose from a handful of taps devoted to signature beers like Bring Out Your Dead American IPA, Tony Hawps West Coast IPA, and In My Darkest Sour. I sipped on a few beers and surprisingly they were really good. I definitely want to go back and try their highly rated burgers. There's a designated parking lot and the service here is top notch. The atmosphere at this place is a dang delight; the decor, the layout of the indoor and outdoor areas, and everyone who works here just make this a great place to be. The beer selection is quality and the quantity is fairly expansive for the size of the place. The food partner Full Metal Burgers is also quality (both humans and grub). Definitely grateful for a place with a lot of opening hours compared to the other local spots that close up early or only operate a few days a week. This spot makes it easy to keep your eat and drink dollars in town instead of venturing out. I've been bugging their Instagram account about when they would open and today was the day! The location is off Valley one street parallel to Grand Ave and has some parking too. I walked in and easily found the tap list as well as where to order. The staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. They have very reasonable prices with sizes from taster to half pint to pint. They have IPA's, a couple of sours, a stout and quite a few other styles too. I went with a few half pints to start. The executioner was my favorite as a double IPA. Really well balanced and easy to drink. I finished with a very solid stout. There is an indoor and an outdoor area too. The kitchen will open soon (possibly Monday) which is cool too. As a bonus I met the CEO and his wife too. They were so friendly and nice enough to talk with me for a while. It definitely makes me want to continue to support this tap room and their beers.
