I can't believe I haven't wrote a review for one of my favorite beer spots in downtown Vista. So straight to the point yes it's a small little spot, I love the beer here, the beer tenders are cool, and it's not a rowdy place. Okay yeah this review is a little short but it is what it is. Bear Roots is usually my first stop when I'm in the Village.

Great Brews & great service. Alma gave both fantastic service and was very helpful. Lots of craft brew available in this area, and this place is easily #1.

Walked by and thought it looked cool inside with all the plants and "trees", reminded me of Pure Project. We decided to try it. One of the beers- the Nelson one was delicious. Probably the best Nelson beer, you don't taste any of that piney tree leaf in there at all. Very smooth and low bitterness. And their bear cookie- if you like a stout, it's also very good. One thing I would like to see is more beers on tap. There weren't a lot of options. Hopefully there'll be some hazies!

Unsure why my review was removed & posted on the original page instead?! I created a new business page & that's where this review belongs!

I am not sure why my review was removed and posted on their original page/location?! I created a new page for THIS particular location as that's where this review belongs! My pictures were moved too...details friends, details. Let's try this again... Another great addition to the ever-changing/evolving downtown Vista and Hop Highway scene. This location is also walking distance to Mother Earth Brew Co., Wavelength Brewing Company, and Belching Beaver Brewery Tavern & Grill. Great place to brewery hop. I have been enjoying Bear Roots beer for several years and I was happy to see they were expanding. This second location is not too far from the original location up Santa Fe Avenue. It's next to Smitty's Downtown, Sonic, and The Flying Pig. In fact, this location offers select menu items from The Flying Pig restaurant. Their food is tasty, so I'm certain it pairs well with the delicious beer. I'll have to return and let you know. The tasting room is nicely decorated and I absolutely love the use of kegs and other brew items for decorative purposes. Clever! There are several televisions, tables, chairs, and barstools making it easy to comfortably enjoy a few beers.

Gorgeous wood tables and special barrel release brews only available at this location. Love the second location! Instead of expanding to San Diego they opened another Vista location. Shows their love for the community! No room for a nitro line so if you love their Bear Cookie on nitro you'll have to go to the Santa Fe (B1) location. The Imperial Bear Cookie rocks! It doesn't take away from Bear Cookie's deliciousness. The 9.8% ABV packs a punch! Parking can be tight but you can park behind Flying Pig. They have an agreement with Bear Roots and provide the tater tots. There aren't as many seats but there are barrels to stand at and place your beer. Loyalists (yearly membership) have a special roped off room. There are purse hooks at the bar and a rail for your feet but no outlets. There are a couple of outlets on the wall surrounding the loyalist room. You can get food: Urbn Pizza delivers, the cheeseburger, philly, turkey burger, and chicken tenders come from PepperTree Frosty. Great service from Les. Looking forward to my next visit.

I love the original location and this is a great second location. Food options from pepper tree makes sure you have food for purchase too Happy hour pricing would let the location compete with Belching Beaver on a greater scale. The beer is fantastic. I loved their pale ale and I'm usually not a pale ale guy. Very balanced and refreshing. Bear heart is also a tasty scotch ale. Light mouth feel too. For a great place to grab a beer and hang with friends, this is the place.

Visited this brewery for the first time on Friday after having dinner at Flying Pig. The bartender was very nice and informative. I really like the ambiance and decor of the place. I had the Bear Cookie which is a chocolate peanut butter stout. It was smooth and tasted like mocha, vanilla, peanut butter and chocolate. Definitely a good dessert drink. I liked that it was so tasty!

Refreshing & Amazing Flavors Great selection of IPA's Vince is a sweetheart and Joe such a gentleman. My fav's are Lathem Red & Bear Heart ...so miiiummmiie! Gorgeous tap room, B1 has a pool table and for us Loyalist an outdoor lounge with a big screen TV. The Owner is totally down to earth and always so welcoming. Great prices, amazing beer and the atmosphere is relaxing and not extremely loud like some spots. B2 in downtown Vista always has great music playing either Raggae or Classic Rock. Both locations are immaculate clean... a must stop on your brewery adventures

It was slow and not super pleasant. It didn't seem too busy anywhere in the place so I'm not sure what the delays were. Maybe the server was new, but she didn't seem too happy and forgot my drink. When she finally came back to check on us she asked if I would like to order a drink (umm, I just want to beer that I ordered ten minutes ago, please). I'd go again if others chose to meet up there... and just hope for the best.

What does it say about me that I picked this place for dinner because it has "beaver" in the name?…read moreI don't want to know! But my excuse is that I did it for the children. Inexplicably, my kids love beavers, and so when we were staying in Carlsbad for the night and looking for a place to eat, how could we not visit a place called Belching Beaver? We couldn't not! And so we did. It turns out, Belching Beaver is a very family-friendly brewery, with lots of arcade games, lawn games, and an extremely laid-back atmosphere. I wasn't going to get a beer, but then I saw that the brewery did a collaboration with the Deftones to create an IPA called Phantom Bride. I had to get a pint. Chino Moreno made me do it! It was citrusy and refreshing, and just the thing to enjoy while sitting on the outdoor picnic tables. Belching Beaver offers your average pub food. My kids got chicken tenders and fries, and mac and cheese with fries. I got a poke bowl, which sounds like a risky choice at a brewery, but it was actually really good and fresh! Not too saucy, either. We also got the carne asada 980 Nachos, which are huge and come on a baking sheet. Plenty enough to share! This place is tucked away in what looks like an office plaza. I'm learning that a lot of breweries in this area are posted up in situations like this. It was on a Friday night, the place was packed, and difficult to find a spot to park. The line to order was almost out the door, but still fast to get through, and we were quick to choose what we wanted before struggling to find a spot to sit and talk. After about 15 minutes, our order was ready and we got to enjoy our food. We started with the Carne Asada Nachos, Refried Beans on the side. The meat was flavorful, very tender, and plentiful atop a pile of crisp and fresh tortilla chips. The cheese was nice and salty and the sour cream was warm to the point where it drizzled over it all nicely. All in all, it was a very tasty start to the night. The only two issues I had with it were that the guac was a bit overly pureed, making it kind of runny. And the refried beans had a very sour flavor, making me think that they were over the edge of going spoiled. I had to thank my wife's aversion to eating beans, helping us avoid having them spooned on top, which would have ruined this course. I also had an Al Pastor Taco, Craft Coast Style. The whole it was crisped up well, the cheese forming a great crust on the inside of the taco. The meat was sweetly marinaded, flavorful and delicious. On top of it was a good amount of beans, onions, cilantro, and guacamole, making for a good sized taco without any overflowing. It was pretty damn tasty. So, our first trip out here had more highs than lows, resulting in a very positive initial dinner. I'm sure those beans were just a one-off, at least I hope they were. And there's still hope that the guac may have had too much lime or had been overly mixed this time around. A second trip is definitely in the cards, with more of the family to expand what comes to the table.
