Prey is one of our go-to neighborhood spots and never disappoints. The staff is always awesome --…read morefriendly, welcoming, and consistent. The food is great, the cocktails are excellent, and the overall vibe is casual but lively. They also have one of the best happy hours, with daily happy hour from 3-6 PM plus a late-night happy hour during the last hour of service. We definitely take advantage of both. Some of our favorites: the smash burger, the tallow fries, and the chicken sandwich. Everything we've tried has been solid. Even the kids' chicken fingers are great! On top of that, all of their cocktails are consistently well-made. Whether we're stopping in for a quick happy hour drink or a full meal, Prey always delivers. Highly recommend!

I parked in the garage that's closest (shared with apartments). Prices were reasonable, food was pretty good, beer tasted like to was supposed to. What could have made it better? The service. It was slow and not super pleasant. It didn't seem too busy anywhere in the place so I'm not sure what the delays were. Maybe the server was new, but she didn't seem too happy and forgot my drink. When she finally came back to check on us she asked if I would like to order a drink (umm, I just want to beer that I ordered ten minutes ago, please). I'd go again if others chose to meet up there... and just hope for the best.

Prior to my visit here, I thought I found the best beer in the world for the past seven years. I…read morejust changed my opinion. This just "trumped" it! Relax, not the orange man. The beers here are off the charts and they have a good FLIGHT deal on Google so wise to check before arriving. I just had an amazing flight with truthfully the best beers I've ever had in my life and I'm old- and there happens to be a vendor here slinging pizzas that are out of this world. We just had a really nice cheese pizza with honey and basil and I think it was Doppio zero flour.... Insane in the membrane, insane! It's the kind of good that lingers. The kind that sets a standard and then quietly dares everything else to try and keep up. Every pour feels deliberate, like someone cared a little too much--in the best possible way. The Promise Porter... that one sticks with you. Dark, rich, almost haunting. It didn't just raise the bar--it moved it somewhere higher, somewhere harder to reach. I still find myself thinking about it, hoping it comes back like a ghost that never quite finished its business. And then there's Diamond Dust--reliably delicious, always exactly what it should be. No surprises. Just excellence. But places like this aren't just built on what's in the glass. They're built on the people behind it. Jake, Erny, Brian, Tiffany--names you remember because they make sure you feel like you belong there, like you've stepped into something just a little bit special. If you're chasing great beer, you could look elsewhere. But you shouldn't.

What does it say about me that I picked this place for dinner because it has "beaver" in the name?…read moreI don't want to know! But my excuse is that I did it for the children. Inexplicably, my kids love beavers, and so when we were staying in Carlsbad for the night and looking for a place to eat, how could we not visit a place called Belching Beaver? We couldn't not! And so we did. It turns out, Belching Beaver is a very family-friendly brewery, with lots of arcade games, lawn games, and an extremely laid-back atmosphere. I wasn't going to get a beer, but then I saw that the brewery did a collaboration with the Deftones to create an IPA called Phantom Bride. I had to get a pint. Chino Moreno made me do it! It was citrusy and refreshing, and just the thing to enjoy while sitting on the outdoor picnic tables. Belching Beaver offers your average pub food. My kids got chicken tenders and fries, and mac and cheese with fries. I got a poke bowl, which sounds like a risky choice at a brewery, but it was actually really good and fresh! Not too saucy, either. We also got the carne asada 980 Nachos, which are huge and come on a baking sheet. Plenty enough to share! This place is tucked away in what looks like an office plaza. I'm learning that a lot of breweries in this area are posted up in situations like this. You look like you're driving into a nondescript place to get your contract notarized, but instead, you happen upon a cool restaurant and brewery such as this.

This place is great!…read more Wife and I came out on a date night to this local spot we've been trying to come to for months. It was on a Friday night, the place was packed, and difficult to find a spot to park. The line to order was almost out the door, but still fast to get through, and we were quick to choose what we wanted before struggling to find a spot to sit and talk. After about 15 minutes, our order was ready and we got to enjoy our food. We started with the Carne Asada Nachos, Refried Beans on the side. The meat was flavorful, very tender, and plentiful atop a pile of crisp and fresh tortilla chips. The cheese was nice and salty and the sour cream was warm to the point where it drizzled over it all nicely. All in all, it was a very tasty start to the night. The only two issues I had with it were that the guac was a bit overly pureed, making it kind of runny. And the refried beans had a very sour flavor, making me think that they were over the edge of going spoiled. I had to thank my wife's aversion to eating beans, helping us avoid having them spooned on top, which would have ruined this course. I also had an Al Pastor Taco, Craft Coast Style. The whole it was crisped up well, the cheese forming a great crust on the inside of the taco. The meat was sweetly marinaded, flavorful and delicious. On top of it was a good amount of beans, onions, cilantro, and guacamole, making for a good sized taco without any overflowing. It was pretty damn tasty. So, our first trip out here had more highs than lows, resulting in a very positive initial dinner. I'm sure those beans were just a one-off, at least I hope they were. And there's still hope that the guac may have had too much lime or had been overly mixed this time around. A second trip is definitely in the cards, with more of the family to expand what comes to the table.
