Once we were seated, our server Lydia introduced herself, and she was excellent. Warm and attentive. Our drinks came out quickly, and the food followed soon after. Everything felt smooth and well-paced, which is not always easy to pull off. She was also very engaging without being over the top, which I always find enjoyable. The lounge is where Falcon's Lair really shines. It has a stylish, elevated feel with just enough ambiance to make it feel like a night out, not just another meal. It is the kind of place that works just as well for a date night as it does for a casual evening with friends. It definitely has a speakeasy feel. If I had one small critique, it can get a little nippy in the lounge, but that is a minor detail in an otherwise very enjoyable experience. Some people prefer it a little nippy. Overall, I would give Falcon's Lair 4 stars. In my opinion, 5 stars means everything is flawless. That said, Lydia absolutely earned 5 stars for her service and played a big role in making the night memorable. If you are looking for a place with great service, a strong atmosphere, and a little personality, Falcon's Lair is definitely worth checking out. read more

Had an amazing experience at Falcon's Lair on May 9th celebrating my wife's birthday with a party of 15, and I have to give a HUGE shoutout to our waitress, Katie. Her customer service skills were absolutely superior from start to finish. Handling a group that size is not easy, but she moved effortlessly the entire night and never once seemed overwhelmed. Katie was personable, upbeat, attentive, and had an incredible personality that made the whole experience even better. She went above and beyond to make sure everyone was taken care of, drinks stayed full, orders were right, and the atmosphere stayed fun and relaxed. You can tell she genuinely cares about her customers and takes pride in what she does. This was my third or fourth visit here, and all of the waitresses have always been awesome, but this was my first experience with Katie--and in my opinion, she is the gold standard of customer service. She turned a good dinner into a memorable experience. If you visit Falcon's Lair, I highly recommend asking for Katie. She's the kind of employee every restaurant wishes they had! read more

Good food and great service. Nice atmosphere.Nice location in Ripon California. My family favorite place to eat.

Came here to celebrate our friend's wedding on the day they were married, which we noted on the reservation. Despite this, we were seated in the lounge rather than the main dining room. Eating a full dinner at low lounge tables was uncomfortable and awkward, and we were never offered the option to sit in the restaurant side. Typically, when you choose a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, there is at least some acknowledgment of the celebration. Unfortunately, neither the host nor our server acknowledged our friend's wedding. When we finally mentioned it, the response was a quick "congratulations," and nothing more. Even a small gesture or verbal acknowledgment from the staff would have made the experience feel more thoughtful. Overall, I had higher expectations for this restaurant. The lack of care and attention was disappointing, and for a $270 tab, we could have had a much better experience elsewhere. read more

We love this place. So pretty and food is great. Lydia, our server was just wonderful.

Service sucks. They forgot to get our order in. Waiter takes over 30 min to bring a beer. We've been waiting for over 2 hours for our food. We ordered another beer an it's taking forever. I will never come here again. read more

Oh my god. The espresso martini was to die for. Felt like it was made by the heavens. 10/10. I had the chicken parmesan which I was really impressed by. My partner is Italian from the northeast and proves to be very difficult when it comes to approving Italian food in California yet he liked it! So happy. My only complaint is that I wish they had more vegan and vegetarian options. read more

Above quality service. Exceptional food and drinks. Atmosphere is a perfect 10/10. We'll be back

When you arrive, there's a waitlist podium to enter your contact info (though mine didn't clear once completed, but still processed.) I love the look when you walk in and beyond. Total speakeasy vibes aesthetically, without the secrecy (unless of course there's something I don't know about!) ;-) I'm not quite sure of the scent you're immediately smacked with upon entering, but I personally enjoy it. Arriving solo, I was seated at the bar (area to the right of the host stand). I'll have to take a wander in the future to see what the rest of the place looks like! The bar/lounge area is a vibe though, and seems to be a highly desirable section. I ordered a Phoenix Rising cocktail and Belle of the Bayou (shrimp and grits) to start. The Phoenix Rising with the mezcal and watermelon- the perfect pairing for a nice smokey treat. I also enjoyed the grits with the smokiness of bacon and tomato with the shrimp. Those two paired well together for me. And because I like to order bigger than what I can handle, I also tried the oysters with cheninc blanc Viognier. I always enjoy a good mignonette with the oysters, and today did not disappoint. It was the perfect end to my evening (rather than my starter). I think I would go with the Sauvignon blanc next time though for something a little more crisp. read more

7/24/25 3/5 By no means are they bad but I just had such high hopes for them. They had been on my radar for a bit now. Even as I write this I'm low key on the fence about my rating. I love the vibes here. It's there is like old school Hollywood and the names/descriptions match the theme as well. Everyone's drinks were made pretty well. I thoroughly enjoyed my first drink, the Gold Rush. I can't tell you what's in it because it wasn't technically on the cocktail menu. But the bartender had made one for my friend once and he loved it so I gave it a shot and was very pleased. From his description it was a bourbon based drink with some honey, lemon and a couple of other components. You could definitely taste the bourbon but it was not overpowering, endless very refreshing with a slight sweetness. My next drink was their smoked old fashioned which is supposed to be a whole production in the way it's served/presented. They bring your drink out in a box and present it table side. It's supposed to be a whole spectacle when they bring it out of the box and all of the smoke comes out, slowly revealing your drink. I was low key disappointed, that it didn't happen for me. Our server offered to resmoke it but I wasn't about to be difficult and accept that offer. Their espresso martini was pretty good but nothing special. It was balanced, not overly bold from the coffee and not overly sweet as well. It did pair decently with the tiramisu we had for dessert though. On to the food. We started the night off with their charcuterie tower which was presented in what looked like sort of an open bird cage with multiple levels. It had multiple cured meats, a variety of cheeses, fruits, crackers and a couple different spreads/dips. One of which was a sweet fruit jam. That and their blended bleu cheese were my favorite things from the tower. My friends had all ordered steaks, 1 Filet, 1 ribeye and 1 Strip while I had ordered the La Belle Parmesan (per server recommendation). Everyone for the most part enjoyed their entrees. My friends said the one thing she wished was that the steak was served with the sauce on the side though as opposed to on top. As for me, although the chicken from the chicken Parmesan was tender and relatively moist, it was very disappointing that it had ZERO crunch/crisp to the breading. To make it worse, the spaghetti with red sauce that it sat atop of was fairly cold and bland so I ended up not finishing it. For the apps we ordered the broccolini, asparagus, Brussels sprouts and loaded mashed potatoes. If I had to choose one, I would say that the Brussels were the best for its perfect roast, subtle sweetness and perfect cook of their crunchy bacon. The loaded mashed potatoes were a solid second and the broccoli and asparagus were just kind of OK. I thought the broccolini need a little bit more time to cook and as for the asparagus, I didn't expect them to be so tiny. I can say, though, that because they didn't use giant asparagus, at least they weren't super hard, fibrous, and undercooked. For dessert, we all just shared one order of tiramisu. It was nothing to write home about, not especially good, not especially bad. What I will say is that I wished that it was a little bit more moist. Service overall I'd say wasn't bad but definitely could have been better. Think they could have checked on us more often considering how not full it was. And as I come to the end of this review, I'm still debating with myself if that should be a three or a four. While presentation overall was very cute and aesthetically pleasing, and the drinks were for the most part pretty good, I don't think as of now that is enough to bump this place up to a 4/5 in my book. read more

The ambiance was just like an old speakeasy. The service was really good (I even felt rushed at times) and the food was delicious. I had the filet and my husband had the salmon. The cocktails were on point as well. We splurged and had dessert of both of them were easily shareable. The banana bread pudding was amazing. It's a great place to have a very nice dinner or celebration. We were there for our 37th anniversary and have decided to go back for my hubby's retirement dinner. I did have to go check out the lounge side and have a cocktail at the bar too. Our bartender made a recommendation on something I wanted and it was perfect. It was a bit more relaxed but still very nice. read more

The food was scrumptious, the service impeccable, the atmosphere ideal. Joined a few friends for a catch-up dinner after I got back from wintering in Taiwan. I had the short ribs and they shared a giant ribeye. Everything on my plate was well prepared and they barely needed a dishwasher when I was done. My friends treated the ribeye plate the same. Falcon's Lair was a total surprise in the best way. The ambiance felt straight out of the golden age of Hollywood: elegant, timeless, and classy. We were seated quickly, and the service was spot-on: attentive and friendly without being overbearing. 10/10 experience there is nothing else to say! The food, the vibes, our waitress Angela, and the amazing birthday/engagement treat made our entire experience memorable!! We are so happy we chose Falcon's Lair for dinner. They service was very fast and Angela was always checking in to ensure we had everything we needed. She was probably the sweetest waitress we've ever had. I believe our experience was amazing because of her! Almost all of our drink and food selections were recommendations from her. We had the option to sit in the dining room or bar and we chose dining room. Next time we visit, we want to try the bar. The dining room has a very quiet and romantic ambiance if that is something you are looking for. I had the vodka pasta but substituted the noodles with penne (Angela's recommendation). It was delicious! There was a slight spice to it but for someone who doesn't do spice it was manageable! The garlic fries with the burger were amazing! They smelt as good as they tasted. Lastly, the sweet congratulations and happy birthday treat at the end was more than we expected. We felt so special and enjoyed the treat. Overall, amazing experience and we can't wait to go back! read more

My wife and I went to Falcon's Lair on Wednesday, March 11th for our usual visit to the bar for great cocktails and food. We have typically been going 2-3 times a month for the past 6 months or so and we usually have a couple cocktails, appetizers and a pizza or a couple entrees. We were quite surprised to find out that the food menu has been drastically changed and we were disappointed to find out that pizza has been completely removed from the menu with several other entrees added instead. We tried the lasagna along with a wedge salad and although the presentation was well done, the lasagna itself was just so so as it was a little dry and not as hot as expected temperature wise. The wedge salad was very good as expected. Maybe it was because the menu change had just happened (we were also there on Saturday night 4 nights earlier and the menu had not been changed), but for a new dish that was meant to replace a favorite option, it was a little disappointing. We will certainly try some of the other new offerings too, but I feel like the frequency in our visits may go down due to the food changes as sometimes you don't want two full entrees - where as a filling, delicious option like pizza that can be shared easily was often the best choice for the bar. The Cocktails were excellent as usual however and the service was quick and the staff very attentive. You can't get a better Old Fashioned in Modesto and the Whisky sour is fantastic too. Rum options are very limited unfortunately with only very basic bottom shelf options available. It would be nice to see some Appleton, Hamilton or Diplomatico rums, as the bartenders don't have all the ingredients to make a Mai Tai either. It's a shame the pizza options are gone because it's a dish that was easy to eat in the bar where an entree is much more difficult with the lounge chair and sofa seating style. If we wanted entrees, we'd typically prefer to sit in the restaurant proper while appetizers or pizza we'd eat in the bar. I'm not sure why the change was made, as pizza was a very popular choice for many people every time we were there but as the owners also have a pizza place nearby that serves a very similar pizza, maybe it was cutting into that business. Just a guess, but I think cutting out one of the most popular menu items to try and force a change in what your regular patrons should eat is a bit short sighted. For us, dining in the restaurant vs the bar were two very different experiences and now it's virtually the same, yet an entree in the bar is more difficult to do. Try cutting a steak if seated on the sofa, or not losing a fork of pasta as you lean over the small bar tables. For awhile we had hoped that Falcons Lair would be the restaurant that filled the void made when Redwood Cafe closed, but with the recent menu changes and apparent changes in what kind of experience they want to offer, it looks like the search for a excellent bar with matching great bar food continues. Even the Old Water Office in Patterson (the sister bar/restaurant to Redwood Cafe) made the same mistake of not adding back pizza to their bar food options when they opened and we tend to not visit as much as we normally would have done. read more
