We also tried the catfish sandwich. The crab cake is a decent size with lump crab meat and minimal filler but it lacked flavor. Not one seasoning was tasted but I got an overwhelming taste of mustard. The catfish was very bland as well. Edible because I'm not going to waste food. The restaurant itself is standing tables only. good lord almighty! my foodie daughter comes through again with an amazing recommendation. faidley's seafood at the lexington market has the most amazing crabcakes i have ever eaten-and i'm a beach girl, i KNOW crabcakes. they are the size of a softball, very lightly breaded with no filler. the platter comes with two sides. we choose pickled beets ( a little more sugary than my husband would have liked) and mac and cheese ( creamy and gooey and delicious.) my husband also got three raw oysters; probably some of the biggest we have ever seen. it's counter service with standing room only tables, but the staff is very friendly and the space works. if you're in baltimore and want crabcakes, this is a must place. read more

Walked passed the Hippodrome where The Wiz is showing! You order at the counter, there are canned/bottled drinks; but sweet tea behind the counter. I ordered fried clams and a crab cake. The clams came out hot and fresh and the crab cake...my Gawd it was absolutely divine! I'm so happy we took that walk before heading back home. They are opening in the Lexington Market a few steps up, so I guess there will be seating soon. There's a Raw bar as well. Idk how old Faidley's is; but I felt like I was back in time at an old school spot. Note: whew it was expensive! They use a lot more binders in the crab cake and it really detracts from the overall quality and texture. The greens also used to be on point. But these were mushy and lacked flavor. The potato salad was slapping though. That hasn't changed. My boyfriend got the catfish platter and the fish was cooked to perfection. Sweet tea was very good as well. Faidley's was a bucketlist place. I mean, they mention it on "The Wire" FFS. So we met with friends to have a lunch adventure, even though neither wanted crabcakes. Luckily, there's a variety of foods available at Lexington Market and while we all ate different things, from different stalls, we had a great time hanging out. Faidley's has not moved into the new market. There are QR codes all over the place so that you can monitor the process, but I REALLY wish they weren't going to move into the gentrified space. The current Faidley's has ALL the charm, and I don't know how they are going to transport all that history and atmosphere over to a very white space. The floor in the current space is a marvel in itself. They had to figure out how to grade it so that it would be flat, since the space is built on a bit of a hill. It's all hightop tables over at Faidley's, which always annoys me since I am a wheelchair user and cannot reach them. All the tables were full though, as well as several spaces at the counter where people were slurping down oysters and such. We took our purchases to go, since our friends were still over at the new Market (even though there aren't many tables there, at least I can reach most of them). The employees are friendly and silly, and I ended up blowing a kiss to one who suggested that he charged people for taking photos. I can just imagine THAT Baltimore; the dark, dingy but not dirty, accepting, flirtatious, working man's Baltimore and I like it - A LOT. It would be a shame to see it go, for there to no longer be places like Faidley's to remind us how the city used to be before it was all hotels and skyscrapers. The food, however, was such a disappointment. The crabcake wasn't brag-worthy, and the clam strips were an abomination. I've had better crabcakes at Friendly Farms and Michael's Steak and Lobster House on Eastern Avenue. The clam strips could have come out of my own freezer and been cooked in my air fryer. They were neither crispy nor delicious. I don't feel like I wasted my money on the crabcake, cuz it had to be done, but those clam strips were just YUCK. I'm glad I went inside. I'm glad I got the crabcake cuz now I have an educated foodie opinion. I wouldn't suggest that you skip the experience, but I hope this review helps you make better choices than we made. This place is where you need to eat in Baltimore. Standing tables surrounded by framed news articles and kitsch. We got there at 10am and it rapidly started to fill with the lunch crowd. The manager was so friendly and entertained our questions about sides and specials. Whatever main you pick, get it as a platter. The portions look small but the food is dense and flavorful. I had mac and cheese and fries with my coddie cakes (a potato croquette with cod that's deep fried). The deviled eggs were sweet, which is different from what I'm used to, but no regrets here. My friend had the jump lump crab cake. It was actually all crab meat, no filler, and cheaper (around $24-25) than the sit down restaurants were offering. She was told to try it with mustard instead of tartar sauce, and she finished it so fast the recommendation must have been solid. Stop here for real seafood. read more

They serve the largest crab cake I've ever laid eyes on. It was absolutely impressive and delicious, but warning -- there were bits of crab shell throughout, so though it was delicious, a bit annoying to eat. Location was a little confusing. We thought this was in the market place but they were closed and there's another storefront next door. Thankful they were open so we could try these. Ordering was simple and quick enough. For the size and quantity/quality of the crab meat, the price was decent. Service happens at the counter, where they are helpful and friendly. The best crab cakes I have ever had!!! My husband and I were in Baltimore for the football game and we stopped here on our way out. I got the clam chowder and a giant crab cake. My husband got the crab cake as well. The crab cake was amazing! It had nice big chunks of crab which was delicious. The clam chowder was good as well but the star of the show was the crab cake. Fair warning depending what the market price is the crab cakes can be pricey but it's worth it. We came in right after they opened and the staff was friendly. The flavor on them was very buttery but I felt like I couldn't get the crab flavor just the texture and visual aspect of the meat showed through. I have to say I'm extremely disappointed with Faidley's. I did lots of research on the best crab cake in town and it failed to meet any expectation. I ordered the jumbo crab cake and was extremely excited to receive it. I paid and expected to wait at least five minutes for them to prepare my order, but about five seconds later the crabcake was on my tray. It was lukewarm, had minimal seasoning and I found a small hair in the crabcake. I was so hungry after walking 35 minutes from Fells Point just to get this crab cake that I ate around it anyway (gross.. I know). As I was eating, I looked at the kitchen and saw the food preparation staff with no hair nets, hair unbound while food handling and only a few gloves being used. I really hope the staff and management here retrain their staff on food handling training and preparation. Not only did I spend $26 on one lukewarm unseasoned mediocre crabcake that tasted as if had been sitting out for a while, but its presentation was underwhelming with 3 pieces of lettuce, no sauce, but came with an eyelash. I'm not one to write bad reviews, but for the price and the consistent reviews, I was really expecting to have the best crabcake in town and get what I paid for, but I have to say it was extremely disappointing, and frankly unsanitary. A positive I will say is that there was a fair amount of lump crab in the cake itself. If you're looking for a great crabcake, I would suggest Ampersea in Fells Point.
